This is a front/scheduling company and independent contractor operation (like many other movers). We had a slightly complex billing situation in which one person (out of town) was paying for the move of a friend. They screwed that up completely (no communication with the driver/contractor at all about it and that is on the company). The truck missed its 2 hour window by 2 full hours. No communication at all about this fact from the company and no apologies from the driver at all. This meant we also missed the load-in window at the move-to address. In a town with so many buildings with scheduled load-out/load-in you have to hit your promised widows (or at least come close). The movers themselves were good guys. Polite, quick, and generally careful (one item did get broken). That said, they had the bad sense to tell us they had been up for 36 hours straight. Ignoring the ethics of such work rules, if this was all work for DC Movers, that's insane. All in all, I've had much better moving experiences with multiple other options. Use one of them. There are plenty of better options in DC. read more

FAST, reliable, professional and prepared! Moving is an emotional experience especially when you've lived in the same apartment for the last 6 years. It was my home filled with not only material things but so much more....memories. We were on a time crunch between packing and physically moving within a week and a half (landlord sold the house) and My DC Movers made it happen. They called to confirm our appointment 24 hours in advance and called to let us know when they were on their way (slightly early but definitely OK with me). Only moving from NW to NE, but all of our belongings and memories were moved in two hours, start to finish. Warm and fuzzy they were not, but they did move my furniture with care and came with plastic wrap to wrap our couches. If you are short on tape, boxes, etc they have that too. Oh and I almost forgot, they are very reasonably priced. In conclusion....if you are in need of movers, My DC Movers is the way to go 100%! read more

Admittedly a pretty sketchy company based upon what I've read, but overall a wonderful moving experience! I called about a week in advance and was surprisingly given a 9am slot on the day of my choosing after being turned away by 10 other (more highly regarded) moving companies. I was pretty skeptical, but called a day in advance and even though the guy sounded annoyed, I was confirmed for 9am on Friday, and sure enough they showed up with a three man crew a little after 9am. They were not the friendliest of guys, and I really had no idea what I was signing with all of the paperwork they handed me, but it all sounded reasonable and they moved me out of my old place and into my new place in two hours. I was quoted $110/hour with one hour minimum for travel, and true to form my final bill (pre-tip) was $330. I never felt swindled and those guys were working their butts off. I even told them to take their time driving to enjoy a break and they were there before I was. All I can say is that they exceeded my (admittedly low) expectations; they assembled a wardrobe as promised, moved everything pretty quickly, and even wrapped the TV and other items in protective covering. My new apartment did not have an elevator, but they were HUSTLING up and down those stairs. Everything arrived in mint condition...that's right...NOTHING broke, and I tipped them accordingly. Based upon other's comments, maybe I just got lucky? Who knows, but if you're looking for efficient movers, the three guys I had today were excellent. read more

Overall I am happy with the service that I received, but I did not give a higher rating for a couple of reasons. I will start with the good stuff first: *They came during the scheduled time frame that we arranged. They came on the latter end of the 2 hour window, but they called early on to assure me that they were still coming. *They moved quickly with getting the stuff out of both locations that I was moving furniture from. *They were courteous and hard working. *In an effort to not scuff my walls while transporting my very large couch up the steps, they opted to lift the couch up from my living room and into the loft instead! Big kudos for considering my freshly painted walls and the havoc that would have been reeked on them by carrying the couch up the steps!! Now on to the things I didn't care for: * The billing was confusing. The first 3 hours was a flat rate of $240. However the 3 hours includes the time it takes for them to get to your property. I for the life of me can't understand why I was billed for the transport time to my property. IMO the billing hour shouldn't start until you arrive at my door. So say for instance the last job they completed was in Baltimore and they have to drive to Fairfax to my location, why does that hour's drive between those locations get billed to me?? The $240 price wound up skyrocketing to $470 once they were done! To me most of the cost was eaten up by transport time, some of which wasn't caused by me .....which brings me to my next issue... *Although they moved the furniture from the locations out to the truck swiftly, I feel like they made extra "billable time" with how slowly they drove. My first location to the second location was only a 15 minute drive. I ended up waiting a full 45 minutes for them to meet me there. No way in the world it should have taken that long to get between locations. With that being said I would likely use them again, but only for small jobs that I can keep in the $240 range read more

I'm pretty darn pleased with these guys. We used them to load a uHaul rather than their truck because of our weird requirement of needing to keep the truck for a few days. They were quick and very, very flexible. We weren't sure when our move-in date or even time would be until literally hours before, day of, and they were there on time. Bravo, gents. read more

This company communicates poorly with its employees and its clientele. Not only did they fail to call and confirm the move with us, as promised, the three young men they sent to our apartment were given no information about our move: no information about the location, the nature of the move, the size of the apartment, etc. The most egregious miscommunication: they sent a 10-inch truck to move our large 2-BR, which meant that we paid an extra $200+ for a second trip between our old and new apartments. Two stars, rather than one, as the three-person team that showed up to move our things were fairly professional and generally effective. However, with the number of moving companies available in the DC-metro area, you can find better, more cost-effective service elsewhere. read more

DO NOT USE THESE MOVERS! I was moving from a town house in Georgetown to a two bedroom apartment in Dupont. I had a specific window of time set for the move - the apartment manager blocked off parking on the street and prepared the elevator for the move. I had a three to five hour window. Seems like plenty of time considering we had boxed literally everything we owned other than large furniture and had everything waiting beside our door. Not to mention we had already been taking several loads of property to the apartment in our cars while waiting for the movers. Five hours for two people is plenty. The movers were supposed to arrive at 1 PM. They called at 12:30 PM to say they would arrive at 3 PM. I told them that we had a specific window of time in which we had to move. They had previously confirmed they would be able to move everything within that window. Three hours still seemed like enough time to finish everything, but I asked for a confirmation that it would be done by 6 PM. He said it would not be a problem. Then they called at 1:30 PM to say they would arrive at 5:30 PM. That is 4.5 hours later than the time they assured us they would arrive by. They offered a 5% discount for the inconvenience. When I complained he offered a 10% discount but said he could go no lower. I had to have everything out of the town house within a day, and the movers had essentially canceled. They were well aware that I had a set time frame for the move and they assured me that it would be no problem. He never once apologized or provided an explanation for the delays. And to think that a 5% (or 10%) discount would compensate for the inconvenience is truly absurd and laughable. Furthermore, he was incredibly rude on the phone. He acted as if his showing up 4.5 hours late was somehow my fault. He acted like a defensive child. The entire time I was speaking to him on the phone, he was having a separate conversation with whoever he was with. He constantly had to ask me to repeat what I had said because of this second conversation he was having. Being late is one thing. There may have been a good reason for it (though he never told me what it was). I can understand that trucks break down, earlier scheduled moves take longer than expected, etc. But the complete and utter lack of respect that I was shown despite the large inconvenience they caused is inexcusable. Luckily, our property manager was a great guy and gave us until about 7:30 PM to move our things (which we did without the movers), and he kept the elevator padded the following day. These movers were totally UNRELIABLE, completely RUDE, and had ZERO REMORSE for the tremendous inconvenience they caused. If you're looking for movers that charge a reasonable price and SHOW UP WHEN THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO, do not use MY DC Movers. read more

This company is very unprofessional. I had scheduled a my move with them in advance. When it came to the time of the move they were no where to be found. I called around 20 times (not including the many times my cousin called) and every time it went to voicemail. So I had to book movers last minute and because of that I had to pay the movers I hired last minute a $200 last minute fee. My DC Movers did call me back after almost 2 hours of the schedule move time. They gave me the excuse that one of their drivers got into an accident. I would have accepted the excuse if he kept me updated. I would not recommend this company even though their other reviews were "great". They did offer to do a move at a later time or the next day with 10%, but I declined because I had to move from a storage unit that day since it was the last day of the month. I would have been charged for the following day. Again I would not use this company. read more

Absolutely the best! I've used these guys twice already; once in 2013 and just yesterday. Like expected, I received a call two hours prior to arrival and they arrived right on time. Alex and his team were so friendly, polite and helpful. I was on my own and these guys made sure I got taken care of the entire time. Also, they made it work! And by this I mean they had to move me out of a place that was not set up well. But they never complained! I am so impressed and pleased with their pricing and honesty, too. DO NOT HIRE - ITEMS WENT MISSING!!! I am missing a box of electronics worth $1200! The company is unwilling to do anything to correct the situation.. Out of the three person team that was sent the foreman was professional and a hard worker along with one of his other co-workers. The third person on the team was fairly negligent with my belongings and showed a lack of concern when asked to be more careful. Although the prices are reasonable and they include a decent selection of packing materials gratis, it is not worth it in the long-run. The credit card facility was not working either. Hire a company registered with the Better Business Bureau and visit the government run website www.protectyourmove.gov for referrals. read more

These guys were awesome. We were slightly behind schedule due to a previous job that they had before me, but they made sure to call and keep me updated on their status. Once they arrived, they went straight to work, loading things in the truck. I ordered them for 3 hours, which is really 2 hours because 1 of those 3 hours accounts for travel time, so make sure to take that into consideration when booking. In hindsight, I would have gone back and just ordered an extra hour, just so they could finish the rest of my move (as opposed to my friends - who were forced to help me do so in a 3 flight walkup; such great friends). Not only did they work quickly, but they assembled furniture once they got it into the apartment - without being asked to do so. They were awesome. I would caution someone to let them know if you are moving somewhere with a specific "move-in" window. I didn't have this, so starting behind schedule was no problem for me. My intern from work used them the week before and had an awesome experience as well. Highly recommend them. Definitely takes most of the stress out of moving. read more

This company is poorly organized and unprofessional. Both times I have used them, they arrived late without any notice and each time they had tons of different excuses. When we called, it would go straight to voicemail or they would not give any useful information about when they would be arriving. They also promised if we booked them a second time, then we would receive a discount but they never held up to that. Luckily the moving of our items did go over smoothly and our items arrived safely, which is why I'm giving them two stars. However, during the second move they were especially unprofessional and made comments about items that they found in our personal belongings. They also wasted time by talking to each other as well as trying to start conversations with us, prolonging the moving time so they could receive more money. We had to actually help to make the process go faster. I would not recommend them at all. read more

I had to move recently, and it is not my first move in the past few years. This company was my most satisfying experience. The booking was easy, the person on the phone was very informative. I had to reschedule and they made there best to find a good spot for me even though it was end of the month and they were booked. Crew came in scheduled time frame. Guys were fast and packed two bedroom fully furnished in 2 hrs, I thought it would take much longer, but before I knew it they were off to my new place. They were very patient when we had to wait for the keys by the office at the apartments. Unloading was no stress either. Pricing is reasonable , I got full explanation of all the charges. Moving with small children is always a pain, at least this time there was no headache thanks to these guys. read more

WORST MOVING COMPANY EVER!!! Don't waste your time or money. Even after reading all of the negative comments on Yelp, I decided to give them a try...bad mistake. TAKE HEED!!! I called My DC Movers to inquire about moving a studio in unit into a storage place about a 1.5 miles up the street. I was quoted a $240.00 price ($80.00/hr for 3 hour minimal). I gave them a run down of my items and they assured me that they could complete the entire move in 3 hours. Great, I thought....so I scheduled the move with them. I scheduled the move to start at 8:00 AM, and was assured that the movers would show up BY 8:00 AM. At 8:30 & 8:45 am, I called the company, My DC Movers, and got the voice mail both times. At 9;25 I get a call from a driver with a deep Ukrainian accent saying he's pulling in to my parking lot and looking for my loading dock. I direct him in and he presents me with a contract from HERCULES SERVICES LLC. When I asked why they are soo late, they they were suppose to be here at 8:00 AM, he told be that they don't even start until 9:00 and they were driving from Gaithersburg, MD (mind you they were supposed to be located in NW, DC but we'll get to that in a bit). They came in looked around and went to get get their backing equipment. 15 minutes later they returned to start packing. I told the driver that I was assured that they would have me packed and delivered in 3 hours for a total of $240.00 and just wanted to make sure that was accurate. He said he couldn't tell me that. Half way into the pack they asked were I was going. I told them a storage unit about 1.5 miles away. The driver suggested that I use them for storage since I was going to use them 4 days later to get the stuff from storage and take to the new place. I called the main number of My DC Movers and spoke with them about storage options. I agreed to store my items with them. It took them 3 hours to PACK a studio unit in to the truck and everything was already boxed by the time the movers arrived. I know for a fact they were stalling on purpose to drive my time up. When everything was finally packed they presented me with a bill of $540.00, more than double what I was quoted and assured I was be paying. When I asked why the bill was soo high, I was told because of travel time, both ways, supplies and an additional hour to take the items off the truck once they go to the storage facility. They charged me for travel from and to Gaithersburg, MD from DC. They company I called was located in DC less than 4 miles away. When I asked about this, they driver all of a sudden didn't know English and told me to call the main number and speak with them. At this point I had no other option but to pay since they had my items already on the truck and it would have cost me at least another 240 to have them take the items off the truck. I paid and told them I'd see them on Tuesday. I spoke with My DC Movers that weekend to to finalized the time of arrival for the movers on Tuesday. I also asked about the pricing for the Friday move and he seems oblivious as to what I was talking about. He assured me that I would only have to pay for the minimum 3 hours on Tuesday and he would let the driver know. On Tuesday, the same drivers from HERCULES SERVICES arrived 45 minutes late (I explained to My DC Movers that they needed to be on time because I reserved the freight elevators for a specific time frame). As soon as the Ukrainian showed up I made it very clear that I had spoken with the owner of My DC Movers and was assured that I would only have the pay the 3 hours rate. He said they they has spoken and all was good. I paid for the 3 hour minimum and they proceeded to move my things in to the new place. 2.5 hours in to the move, the Ukrainian approach me about paying for additional time because they wouldn't be able to take the items off the truck and move them in to the unit with the time they had left. I told them ABSOLUTELY NOT and that I was assured they would complete the job in the time and price I was quoted. He then got upset and started ripping his protective covers off of my items, throwing my items around like trash, aggressively shoving things around. When I ask him to treat my things better, he walked out to the truck and literally started throwing my thing off the truck. I noticed that they were no longer bringing the things in and loading the elevator but only piling them up on the sidewalk just outside of the truck. Once all of the items where off of the truck he came up to me and said, since you don't want to pay for more time, we are done. I noticed that he broke and ivory column and when I asked about insurance he said I needed to call the main number, got in the truck and pulled off leaving my things in a pile on the sidewalk. Moments later it started to storm. Thankfully, I managed to get my things under the over hang to my building and out of the rain before any damage was done. WORST EVER read more

Horrible customer service. I scheduled a move long in advance and was promised 10 free boxes and 2 wardrobe boxes for rent 7-10 days in advance. When I called to have them delivered the guy tells me that "for the time being we don't offer any boxes." Now, I've bought lots of boxes already so it's not that I can't live without 10 additional boxes but it's very unprofessional and he sounded annoyed when I told him that I have in writing that they would deliver them. Finally, he agreed to deliver the free boxes but then he wanted me to be home at the time of delivery. I use Amazon all the time and UPS has no problem leaving stuff on my front porch. I ended up giving up on the boxes because it got too complicated. Later the same day I cancelled the entire move and hired another company with good ratings. I can't recommend these guys if you're looking for a company with kind and smooth customer service. read more
