But if you're going to the Emissions Testing facility that entrance is now on the east side, so it's best to come in from Sarnoff rather than Stocker (see pic of new entry route). Staff here is always pleasant and the lines move reasonably fast. Pro Tip: on the main website you can access a live camera feed pointing at each of the three Tucson emissions centers' vehicle lines. Lunchtimes are often the worst and anytime during the last week of each month tends to be more crowded too. read more

I recently went to the DMV (Stocker) to get my license renewed. I was there when it opened and was surprised to see the line so long. But as I waited, employees who didnt have customers kept coming and taking care of people at their desks. I thought that was great and really helped speed things up. I was helped by LEVI who was very kind and patient with me, talking me through the process needed to get the new license and also telling me what to expect . This is my " go to " Mvd emissions station on east side s off 22nd street east of Pantano before the light on Sarnoff . ( other northwest off freeway ). You can go online to check the approximate wait times. With renewals at end of month ( I believe also mid month for some?) it better to try and go in between those dates. The staff works hard to push the cars through and are polite . Tip if coming in from east entrance is past the parking lot where cars exit . The entrance is on the far eastside driveway . Very easy process to get a new Az Drivers license. I had to renew mine but my previous D/L was out of state. I made an on-line appt and brought my old D/L, passport and 3 pieces of mail verifying my address. I walked right up in line and was done within 15 min. Only problem was that my passport (from almost 10 years ago) had my maiden name. After she input everything, she used my maiden name (even though my previous D/L and other 3 verifications didn't say that.) For women- they use your passport and nothing else. Make sure to check your name when they print you a temp printout. Otherwise they're great. read more

If you're renewing your vehicles registration, DO NOT DO IT ONLINE! That is run by some 3rd party clown company. I ran my vehicle through their rude emmisions testing line, oh wow, another rate hike for testing. No notification until I was being tested. Then paid it online. Received my registration and tags in the mail. A week later we get some letter saying the payment was rejected. But we already had the registration and tags! Lol These people must have massive TDS syndrome or something. So I've got the current registration and new tags on the license, that they mailed to us and are saying there was a problem with the 3rd party online knuckleheads. So we have to drive 50 miles back to pay them the original amount IN CASH only at their office on 22nd. Lmao. Do these people at MVD look like idiots or what? And I'm driving around with my new tags and registration, and they still haven't gotten the payment we electronically sent. Lol NEVER DOING IT ONLINE AGAIN. I am so happy that this location is very close to where we live. I moved from Phoenix around Easter and knew in a few months that I would be needing testing. I read up on this testing station to see what times would be the slowest. That was on Saturday's from 4 until 5. I went during that time and got right in without waiting. I was very happy about that as well as the great customer service that I received. The lady who helped me was very polite. I give this location 5 stars because of that. Thank you do very much. I made an appointment online so this probably made the experience the easiest it could have been, but I've been to several MVDs/DMVs/RMVs/SOSes over the years in various states and this was the best Motor Vehicle experience I've had in my life. The person behind the counter was friendly, the man that was at the front desk taking photos was friendly, everyone was friendly and pleasant. Follow the guidelines online so you're sure you have the correct documents ahead of time and before you know it you'll have your own temporary AZ Driver License and waterproof paper license plate in your hands and you'll be out the door. Also, the technology running behind the whole affair is top notch. The folks behind the counter were able to move through the system with easy, it interacts well with users through the online portal, and it just works. It has been many years since I was here. I like how quiet and calm it is now. Perhaps that is because we were able to schedule our appointment on-line before coming in. The wait was short and left earlier than expected. The gentleman that helped me was very pleasant and seemed to be happy. He was making jokes while working while also being efficient at his job. I have to say it seems as though the MVD Has becomes much more efficient over the years. It's not the dreaded experience that it once was in the past. Nah...not really a fan. Just like any other DMV in other states. They accused me of not having car insurance and charged me $50 to "renew" it even though I had insurance thru USAA in Arizona for several years. Even got pulled over during the alleged time of "lapse" and it wasn't an issue like...? The woman who helped me then started quizzing me on that and the lateness of my registration renewal. I work 12 hour shifts so I can't help that. My recommendation to y'all is to take all of your paperwork and expect bureaucratic judgments. Don't get your hopes up from the positive reviews because you'll end up disappointed. Only reason I gave 3 stars is because it was all over in 30 minutes. read more

Well who wants to ever go to the MVD? Not me ever! But making an online appointment makes MVD way better. You still have to get in line to check in and get directed. Please please please, I can't say this enough, BRING your barcode and documents. It's not that hard folks be prepared and the MVD will treat you right. The lady working the front was one badass multitasking fool. She was calling people up, inputting info with one hand, and taking pics with the other all simultaneously. Like if she needed another job, I'd hire her on the spot no questions asked. She was friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable. Not at all what you'd expect from this kind of place. She snapped my pic, directed me and my barcode to the kiosk, and told me what to do next. My all in time from waiting in the first line to exiting this place was less than 30 minutes. I know it's odd to hear, but I sincerely had the best MVD experience of my life here. I just moved from out of state so I needed a new license and to register my vehicle. I came early and brought a book to prepare myself for a long wait. The wait was maybe 30 minutes. Sofia was incredibly efficient and friendly. She smiled often and very patiently explained to me the process and all the fees. I was out in less than an hour with a smile on my face. Tip- it helps tremendously if you know which documents to bring so research ahead of time on the AZ DMV website, which has several forms you can pre-fill online. read more

As far as the MVD goes, this is the best one I've ever been to. I moved to Tucson from SoCal and let me tell you, this is a totally different experience! First, you check in and speak to a couple people who just make sure you can't take care of your transaction at the kiosk it online. Then you get your number and wait in line. The line might take 10 minutes. They've made some changes in 2017 because when I came last year I waited up to an hour on a couple visits. To be perfectly honest, I'm not entirely sure if our trip to the DMV (who calls it "MVD", really?) was actually good, or if I psyched myself up so much for a downright awful experience, that anything would be good in comparison. Either way, the end result was a fairly easy and quick (ish) visit to the DMV. This location is a little bit tucked away, but 22nd and Sarnoff are clearly marked with signage to get you to the building/areas you're looking for. At the end of the road is the actual DMV building. There's plenty of parking available, or at least there was plenty for today's crowd. As soon as you enter the building, you'll probably be waiting in line to receive your number from the receptionist. She was nice and friendly to us, and got us on our way quickly. The building itself is pretty large, and it's split in half, with some customer service windows on one half and some on the other half. We rolled the dice and decided to sit on the left side. Mostly because there were less people over there. Still, we listened to our share of crying by a child, but other than that, all was peaceful. We waited there for about 25 minutes. Not bad! Our little gamble of going to the less populated side turned out to not be the side that we would be called to. Even though we jumped up immediately when we heard our number on the loud speaker, since we were clear on the other side of the kinda big building, we didn't get to the window before they repeated our number on the loud speaker. Oh well. At the first window, the employee there wasn't actually able to help us, since she hadn't yet been trained on what we needed (we were transferring a custom plate to a new car). Luckily, the employee at the window next to us had just finished with another person, so we moved over to her window and she had us on our way in 10 minutes. Again, not bad! Both employees were friendly, nice, and actually smiled! Definitely not how you picture a DMV employee, and actually, not what I experienced at the DMV on Shannon Rd in Tucson years ago. We had our plates transferred and were on our way in about 45 minutes total. It wasn't that busy there, and everyone was friendly and helpful. I made an appointment online for my Travel ID. From the moment I entered until the time I was walking out the door was under 10 minutes! They were very efficient and professional. Well, it's a typical MVD (why does Arizona call it an MVD and the rest of the country call it a DMV?). Crying babies? Check. People talkng on cell phones even though there are signs posted everywhere not to use them? Check. Upon entering you see a receptionist who asks what you need (in my case I needed a new drivers license) and she had me fill out a form and bring it back to her, upon which I was handed a number and told to "Go to the camera, theycallyournumbertwice". Huh? 1)I didn't know where the camera was, and I wasn't sure if they would call my number, etc 2) At the camera, there was just a line of people standing around, so I got in line and was rudely asked "Was your number called?" Ugh! My mistake for not entirely comprehending her, but come on. Okay, and WHAT is with these god-awful pictures? Is it some rule that you HAVE to look like crap? Fix the lighting or something, please! I even put on makeup for this occasion! They snapped my pic and then told me to sit down, my number would be called again and when it was called, a very nice older man helped me get my new license. $12 and some paperwork later he told me to head BACK over to the camera station where they would call my name for my new license. All in all, not a horrible experience but I would have appreciated a little more explicit instructions. Also, beware that you will do a lot of walking back and forth so be prepared! read more

Overall: Excellent service. Great experience. I was literally in and out in 20 minutes with my new driver's license. Got there at 8 and was walking out the door by 820. Some of the other reviews make me wonder if they showed up prepared. The DMV website lists exactly what documents they require to be able to process your requests. For my new driver's license I brought in my passport, marriage license, driver's license, and social security card. I also had a couple extra IDs with a picture in case there was something wrong with one of the ones I provided. I filled out the application online and that saved me probably 5-10 minutes sitting in the office. Just be sure to arrive early and show up prepared and you'll be fine. If you have special circumstances bring any legal documents that explain your case. The workers aren't lawyers. They have to rely on your official documents. And they have to be certified original copies. Plain copies without the raised seal of a notary won't be accepted. Please smile. Everyone I saw in the waiting room looked like they were about to break some skulls. When you smile at the workers and are friendly they smile and are friendly back to you. If you look like you're about to assault them they might not be so smiley. read more

First review I posted was actually for an emissions testing place. Got there at 11:20 got out at 1:00. Staff was nice and quick once you got to them. It's the DMV not sure how many five stars they get. It's better than a lot of the other ones around the country. No horror story here. I got there, was seen with in minutes, and was a asked to sit again and wait for my number. I sit there for what seems forever (35 minutes) and I realised that they skipped my number. I go up to the counter and they send me to someone who I can only imagine was sitting in the back filing her nails. She was rude and kind of acted like I was bothering HER. Not surprised. The place had a minimal amount of people, went a little after one. They now take your picture upon arrival. I filled out my form and waited about five minutes to be called. So if you are elderly, or disabled, you need to bring your own chair.And it's not as if the lines are quick, average lines that I've been in is 25-45 minutes.
