The process is very personal so that took some getting used to but I found that to be the most enjoyable about it. You get one hour to decorate your bear and if you're local you have a few days to pick it up once it dries. Our bears were $85 and shipping was $15. The delivery was smooth and my baby made it to me without any issues. I named her Fern :-). I'd definitely recommend this as a fun activity that's not liquor or food focused. I also asked a few friends to join the Kintsugi workshop on self-discovery with me. Heading up the steps of Mala Market, the space already had people anticipating the start of the session by the time we got there. Pro tip: Give yourself time to park. We were greeted and instructed to grab a bowl before sitting at communal tables. The cost of the workshop covers the session and materials we used as well. Going into the workshop, Mai centered us with some breathing and meditation. It was time I had not given to myself in a long while, and I happily settled into the moment. I don't want to give details of the session away, but I will say that Mai created a space of calm, self-reflection, and creativity, ensuring it was a safe space to share without judgment. Ultimately, we all walked out into the shop feeling joyful and refreshed. It's just what I needed heading into the week. We all agreed that we would attend another session in the future! What started as an interest in fencing has grown into something so much bigger. The coaches don't just teach technique they build confidence, discipline, resilience, respect, and a genuine love for the sport. The impact on my children has been incredible. They have grown not only as athletes but as people. They've learned how to work through challenges, stay focused, support their teammates, and believe in themselves. Watching their confidence grow both on and off the strip has been one of the greatest gifts as a parent. What makes Space City Fencing Academy truly special is the community. From the moment we walked through the doors, we felt welcomed. The coaches genuinely care about every student, no matter their experience level, and they create an environment where everyone is encouraged to do their best and celebrate each other's successes. This academy has become so much more than a place to train it has become a second home for our family. really wanted to leave a better review, but unfortunately my experiences at two different locations…read morehave been consistently disappointing. At both locations, we were not greeted and were given little to no explanation of what the class would involve. Everything felt vague and unorganized, which made it difficult to know what to expect or how to participate as beginners. At the Houston location, the gym space is split between kids' classes and adult classes at the same time. The kids were extremely loud, making it very difficult to hear the adult instructor. While we did receive slightly more instruction there than at the Pearland location, we later found out there was miscommunication about adult classes--Pearland primarily hosts children's classes, and the only consistent adult classes are at the Bellaire location. As new fencers, it was overwhelming being dropped into classes with experienced fencers without any structured onboarding. A beginner-focused program--such as a 6- or 8-week introductory course--would make a huge difference in helping new students feel confident and supported. During our class in Bellaire, the coach also disappeared at one point while we were fencing with others, without any explanation. We had no idea where he went or what we were supposed to do, and ultimately left out of frustration. Overall, this company could greatly improve by having clearer communication, better organization, and more structured programs for beginners. With some improvements, this could be a great place to learn, but in its current state it's been a very frustrating experience.
