We came in for a date night and had so much fun! This was our first time doing a paint and sip event, so we didn't know what to expect. Our teacher Jonah was great - made it simple to follow, and it was just the right pace. We brought some wine and cheese, which was great to nibble on. Though you only really have a bit of time before you start painting. Once you get going, there's not that much down time! We also added a candle on before, which was fun to pick out make as well. Neither of us are very artsy or creative, and it got us to really enjoy painting! We'll be back! read more

Hubby and I went this afternoon for date night. Louis was our instructor- and he was by far one of the BEST instructors we've had! He was funny, engaging, entertaining and explained every step well. We aren't from Houston, but we would make the 2 hour drive back to this location if we knew he was going to be the instructor read more

i booked a class for my team for a team building event and we had such a great time. There is not that much parking so if you're planning to go with a group I would consider car pooling. They are a BYOB and BYOF establishment so that was great! We brought some wine and some small bites to have. The set up was really nice and everything started on time. They only had one good wine bottle opener and they did not provide plates for us to have our food, there were only a few plastic cups. I would recommend bringing all these things yourself just in case. The instructor was good and very patient with us and the instruction was great! I would recommend this as a great thing to do for groups, dates, solo. It was nice and relaxing to paint and have some drinks! I thank Bob Ross for the lessons I learned from The Joy of Painting show I would watch as a kid, it really paid off! Haha read more

I cannot say enough about John Paul. He was kind and helped my fiancé and I every time we messed up or were stuck on how to proceed with our portraits. We could not have completed our portraits (nor could have done such a great job) if it were not for him. If you are interested in booking, John Paul is 100000000% recommended. read more

Came here for a birthday party and was impressed with the staff. We had Louis and he is beyond amazing. His energy level is on 10000 the entire time. He is fun and knows his audience. It's a great outing for every occasion. I highly recommend for a party. We were able to bring food and drinks. Awesome time! read more

We booked Painting with a Twist for a team building event. It's BYOB and BYO food, so whatever you want to consume is fair game. Jonah was a great host - very interactive, helpful tips, and even ran a music trivia contest while we were painting. Stations were clean and prepped, with additional paint and towels as needed. They also have a stash of extra paintings (done by instructors for previous classes) that were offered as prizes for trivia. read more

Ordered a Paint at home kit only for them to give me blank canvas and paint. Tony told me just to follow the directions lol. I could have bought a canvas and paint from dollar tree and came out a lot cheaper. Our paintings looked horrible by the way. read more

I love painting with a twist! My Mom and Aunt flew in from Chicago for a weekend. I surprised them with a late Friday night class. Back home we go pretty often and this was the first time where there was a rough sketch of the drawing we were doing. The environment was pretty high energy as there were a couple parties there looking to have fun. Highly recommend this location and will be returning post quarantine! read more

This is a perfect date night activity and so much fun painting your pet. Neither me or my boyfriend are artistic but Miguel did a great job instructing us and answering any questions we had. It was a lot of fun being able to bring our own wine to enjoy while painting as well. If you are looking for a fun indoor activity, I would definitely recommend Painting with a Twist. read more

Went with girlfriends last night and we made the best of it, but I wouldn't recommend this place. It was a 2 hour class that started 40 minutes late and felt, well, rushed. I've been to one of these classes at a different place/different company and the instructor had assistants to help with getting people more paint and helping people when they struggled with certain parts. Here the person teaching the class had to do it all by herself. They didn't even have ice for the wine bucket. Will go back to the other business next time. read more

I am by no means an artist but I sure felt like one thanks to the amazing instructor (Jamie) and her assistant (Ivy)! She not only taught one painting but three paintings simultaneously! Moreover she prepped our TX shaped canvases with white paint and had all the colors ready to go by the time we got there! Overall the class was so fun, upbeat, positive, easy to follow, ran on time, and just felt like a party as we played a musical guessing game that become very competitive! I have been to Pinot's Pallet a couple times before and the set up is the same but the class here was way more fun, thanks to the wonderful Instructor! Highly recommend this place for date night, a fun hangout with friends and family, or just some solo fun and meet friends with the same interests! read more

We had SOOOOOOOOO much fun celebrating our friend's birthday!!! The painter instructor was great, she was very personable and helpful. Also, the other instructor was great as well. We enjoyed the music being played and the set up. It was my first time doing painting with a twist and I absolutely enjoyed it! Very ideal for a date night or even a casual outing with your friends/family. I particularly like this location because it's close to the places we like to eat and drink at. This was an excellent date night for my wife and me. We ended up having the entire lesson to ourselves, and our instructor (John Paul) was an excellent conversationalist. He was kind to us and helped point out techniques that would correct our flaws without coming across as overly critical. We always had something to talk about, and he picked a good playlist for us to listen too (music that was older than he was). I would recommend this to anyone who wants and easy afternoon or evening while getting a nice souvenir. read more

This was a great experience, the teacher did an amazing job and even made beginners feel like experts. The quality of the material, and the total experience completely blew me away. Away from the customer service side of the venue, I was even able to walk away with a pretty decent painting to show to my friends thanks to the great instructors of painting with a twist. read more

Went with a friend to the midtown location for " paint your pet day" & it could not have been more fun. Cameron was our teacher and he was the best. He kept everyone engaged and laughing. Cameron was encouraging and helpful. I'll definitely be back! It was a great time! Went back again and could not have been better. Cory was there a long with Cameron. Cory was so helpful as well as Cameron. Both made it fun and made sure you left with a painting you were happy with. Wish I could give it 10 stars. read more

Painting with a Twist was a great experience for me. I never knew I could actually paint a drawing. I was so surprised with my painting at the end. The art teachers give you so many great tips on where to began to create your painting and how to work with colors. The theme for us was painting your dog. I got so many compliments on it and I have it hanging on my hallway wall. I highly recommend it. You will enjoy it and have a great time. You can also take a bottle of wine to relax while you paint your dog. I am going to get a few friends to come with me again to spend a great time together. This place was so much fun! The teachers were really nice, helpful, and also funny. We brought a couple bottles of wine, and cups were provided. You can also deviate from the painting recommendations, if you care to be a little more free! I had actually left my phone there on Saturday, and Dimitri (the owner, maybe) came in on a holiday just to let me in and helped me look/find my phone. He was VERY nice, and I would highly recommend this to anyone. read more

Our group of 3 did a night cityscape painting with Landis, who was really adept at breaking down a complex painting and made painting an easy and FUN process! We booked a Monday night, and there was only one other couple present, so it felt very much like a private lesson. Even though it was a longer 3-hour class in the evening, Landis patiently allowed all of the slower painters in our group to finish 30 minutes beyond the end time and was a joyful personality to talk to later as well. When we apologized for taking so much more out of her night, she commented that she doesn't want to rush anybody working on their masterpiece and truly hopes that it can be a special experience for all of us students -- definition of great attitude! Here's a pic of the entire class' cityscape painting. Keep in mind that it's almost everybody's first time ever painting and the subject was apparently more complex than typical. Yet, everybody was amazed by the end result and how easy the whole process felt. Thank you, Landis! :) read more

First Time @ PWT. I have to admit it was a great experience. Cameron was our witty art instructor. He was super upbeat and engaging. He played a little music trivia game with us during the duration of our time there with a diverse playlist of some old jams. The painting was fun and I loved our picture! Just like any BYOB, the instructors explain exactly what you need to do to make your FUN-art (not fine-art) looking decent. I would definitely recommend anyone to go. Ask for Cameron, he'll hook it up for you! And give away little freebies (for winning and LOSING music trivia) as well as take a bunch of photo-ops at the end!! Oh and in case you're in a rush and can't buy your wine before arrival, they have wine & beer you can purchase at the place for your convenience. read more

Came to this specific location last Saturday to do some painting with my cousin and her friends, I was visiting from San Antonio. This was my very first Painting with a Twist experience and it was definitely worth my time and money. The instructors were very awesome. Madonna and Landis were their names for reference! We started the class off with instructions on how to paint with each specific brush. It was very insightful and fun learning what each brush is used for. Next we received instructions for the game of name that tune; we each set out team names we were the Divas and I believe we ending up winning the competition. To say the very least the instructors were Fun, friendly and perfect for the painting we chose. They even helped us all take beautiful pictures of each group and our paintings! This was an experience I will never forget. Oh and the melanin was poppin! read more

This has only been my second time going to these BYOB paint classes, but so far this particular one has been my favorite. Cameron was our instructor and he was awesome. It's located in the kind of sketchier part of midtown, and the business had a sign on their door that's stated they don't open their doors until 30 mins before the class starts, so there were people waiting outside when we arrived. It took us a moment to figure out where we were supposed to be once inside. You sign in on at the front counter, there is a simple roster with people's name on it. And then, less obvious, there is a hand-drawn seating chart underneath the roster. We had two instructors, one was new and she was sweet. The other one was meh, kind of a buzz kill. He had just said to ask him if we needed more paint, so I raised my hand & said I needed more, and then he told me I need to hold on & said something in an oppressing tone, and then never got me more paint...So he didn't follow up with me. Despite the buzz kill instructor, my friends & I still had a good time with the whole painting and wine experience. read more

Went to Painting with a Twist Midtown with my coworkers and had a really good time. Michael was our instructor and a lot of fun. I enjoyed not only the painting but the relaxed and fun atmosphere that this instructor created. I liked the fact that the painting was not overly complicated and could drink, eat and interact with the girls I came with. I was expecting parking to be complicated and pleasantly surprised at how easy it was at this location-considering it was in midtown. read more

I loved the personality of the instructor. Super fun! If you are looking for a good time, outing with friends, creative date, or even some creative time to yourself in the company of good people and something to remember the night with this is what you are looking for. I have done multiple paintings some with friends, and not gonna lie, some by myself - and I have never had a bad experience. We came here to celebrate my friend's birthday, and it was sooooo fun ! Madonna was such a joy and pleasure to be with! She was very easy to follow, and I loved that she was super interactive with all of us. She created a fun game, and made groups of me and my friends, along with two other girls that were there. She made everyone feel included! It was a little friendly competition between the two teams. Madonna's personality is preeeettyyy AWESOME and I CANT wait to go back to her! She & I were the only people in attendance on a weekday afternoon. Before you start, you select which size (ounces) perfume you want to make; 10ml is the default but you can upgrade to a larger size & pay an up-charge. Each person makes their own scent choosing 1-3 scents for each category of base, middle, & top. We had 24 different scents to smell and choose from. The Love & Make employee provides composition guidelines & suggestions on scent quantities. After you make all your scent selections, the worker does the final "math" to tell you quantities of each scent. You measure out each scent & finally mix them all together to create your final scent. I'll admit, the worker was not very enthusiastic while helping us. Yes we were the only participants that day but it would have been nice if she had a little bit of "perkiness" while working with us. Nonetheless, the two of us enjoyed each other's company & enjoyed the unique experience. I would definitely return & bring a few more people to have a group experience. I highly recommend the experience! The overall experience was a 5. However, I will rate it 4 because customer interaction for this type of experience is important. My 5year-old has enjoyed…read morepainting and coloring on her home easel since she was a toddler so we thought we would encourage her interest and enhance her skills with some art classes at the Glassell Junior School of Art. The art school is connected with the Museum of Fine Arts Houston (MFAH) organization and campus. The building is absolutely beautiful and the classrooms are well equipped for blooming artists striving to become.better at their craft. The current program our daughter is participating in is an "Art Tales" program. A story is read to the students and then they create art afterward that is inspired by the story. Various media are explored and used; drawing, painting, clay sculpting, etc. The class is 2 hours in duration, once weekly, and takes place for a period of 3 months. It's a great program and a sure fire way to enhance cultural enrichment and serve as an expressive and creative outlet. The campus is directly adjacent to the MFAH, so parents can enjoy a day at the museum while children are in class if they feel (membership or admission required) or, simply browse the student art on display in the galleries of The Glassell School of Art (this is free) and there is plenty to see. There is also a sculpture garden on campus to stroll through (for free) and a rooftop deck that makes for some lovely views and photo opportunities. Free street/curbside parking is usually available, otherwise there is a fee-based parking structure.

This was not regulated or enforced if you will. People took our spots and mind you our slot was 630 so you know we could've gone to dinner or done something else. I just feel the whole thing was a waste of my time. We ended up leaving because literally there was no greeting, no interaction, no direction and no spot available despite our reservations big disappointment. :( Sorry about the blurry picture, but there was literally nothing to take pictures of.

This was…read moremy second time visiting Black Phlox, where I learned that "phlox" is a type of flower, and I'm so glad I returned. The level of attention, detail, and guidance throughout the two-hour session is truly unmatched. My table included six women celebrating a "Spring Into Friendship" social event. Together, we were able to try 72 different scents across top, middle, and base notes to create something unique and complementary to our natural body chemistry. I loved the clear instructions, the pacing of the session, and the R&B playlist that felt like a sweet throwback to my aunt's playlist she used to blast on her living room stereo set in the '90s. One of the things I love about Black Phlox is that every visit is guaranteed to feel new. Each table is given a different curated set of scents to work from, so no two experiences are exactly alike. Dr. Rica even pulled out a few special "vault" scents during our session that included deeper, more intense fragrances that are used sparingly, but added richness and character to the final blends. The interaction with Missy, Tasha, and Dr. Rica made the experience feel intimate and fun, like I was hanging out with my cool, older cousins. Not once did I feel rushed. Even when I had a little hiccup while pouring my scent into the bottle, Tasha and Missy jumped in to help me correct it so I could leave completely satisfied with what I'd created. The pricing was more than fair. You have the option to upsize your bottle, and they even offer 50% off if you return and remake the same scent, which is something I've never seen offered in other custom scent classes. The value, the experience, and the meaningful interaction make this a go-to recommendation for me. The icing on the cake is that you get to bring your own bottle of wine and/or alcohol for just a $2 cork fee. They provide cups and ice, and the space is filled with good conversation, plenty of cackles lol, and community energy you won't find anywhere else. After our session ended, we spent at least another hour laughing, taking pictures, and finishing our prosecco. Not once did we feel hurried or unwelcome. That kind of hospitality is rare and speaks volumes. I also learned that Black Phlox offers interactive perfume and cologne-making stations for events like weddings. We had two brides-to-be in our group, and they were thoughtfully gifted in-house made candle wax melts along with their custom perfume purchases, which was a beautiful and personal touch that made the night even more special. It's a beautiful space built by even more beautiful women, and I love hearing their stories and seeing how they've turned inspiration into a thriving business. I'm proud to support Black Phlox and will keep returning again and again.

The beginner class is a reasonable $170 for a 5 week session and you can count on coming home with 6+ pieces. Your final class will be a potluck, work reveal and Raku firing. John and Judy allowed me to take the beginner class for a few sessions until I was confident enough to move forward to the intermediate. I'm currently taking 3 month intermediate sessions with the option of extra studio time on Saturdays for $5. I love to come to class and unwind on Monday nights after a long day; playing with clay is really a form of therapy. The owners are there to assist you hands-on and help you achieve the best result (as are some of your classmates that have been students here for many years). John and Judy often have a different approach to their craft, which is beneficial in that you're exposed to more than one perspective and technique. The best advice that I can give is to eliminate your expectations. Almost every piece you make will look different than you envisioned, but you'll learn to love the unpredictability.

The only wines available were bottles at a much higher price point, which was disappointing. I'm still wondering what happened to their wine selection. Hubby did enjoy a nice cold beer served in a frosty glass, and that was perfect. Dinner was actually pretty good. The steak was cooked perfectly, and the lobster mac and cheese was tasty, although there wasn't much lobster to be found. Now for the theater itself... The seats are definitely showing their age and are getting a little rickety. Service was almost nonexistent. The one bright spot was a food runner who kindly pointed us to the QR code for the menu and even offered to bring us a printed menu. He was great. We ordered our movie snacks, but that's where things really went downhill. The popcorn was as stale as stale can be, the M&M's tasted old and a little funky, and somehow my club soda came with about four ice cubes and wasn't even very refreshing. The movie itself was good, and we still enjoyed having a much-needed date night together. Overall, though, it's sad to see this theater slipping because it used to be the place to go. He had seats and a table moved into an available space, provided ticket passes and numerous other compensation for the missed step in ticket rescheduling. SO MUCH FUN! I just went with a group and was so impressed with this place! My family is impressed with what I was able to paint -- Staci (spelling?) was our instructor and was so easy to follow... "...don't rinse your brush yet, just pick up a little pink and use big brushstrokes right over the blue in the lower left, like this...." But when I look at the picture, it reminds me of the fun of the evening, so much more than just painting. I've already convinced my husband that we need to go together next time as a date. We're looking on the website for a picture that looks fun on a day that works for us. It doesn't have to be a great picture, the fun is in the experience! read more

You get to choose the painting that you would like to paint and the instructor shows you, step by step, how to get your masterpiece onto a canvas. I've been so many times, always a good time and I hardly ever twist. The instructors are always fun and helpful. The studios are clean. My favorite studio is Midtown even though I live 5 minutes from the one on Sawdust. I can go with the girlfriends, my daughter, my husband, my mother, anyone really. I'm sure there were additional colors available, but we didn't need them. The bears needed time to dry throughout the process so we played games while just hanging out. They had big Jenga there that we played. We tried to play the Connect4 that was outside, but the wood was warped so we weren't able to, but there were so many options. The vibes were so good! The music was great and they had drinks for purchase, but we had brought our own. I appreciate that that was an option! Loved being able to bring our little bears home with us and are such a cute reminder of our time visiting Houston. Would totally recommend for anyone looking to do something creative in Houston! This was still a timed class so we didn't have a ton of time to learn exactly how to paint certain parts right. Overall, everyone's paintings came out great, with each person bringing their own take on the prototype painting. Like other painting classes, you can bring drinks and snacks. But, I didn't eat anything because I was so focused on the painting. I would recommend eating prior to the event. As a group activity, this is great as a team bonding and relaxation experience.
