I joined this studio in 2021 to support a Black woman-owned business, but I can no longer attend due to severe safety, hygiene, and management issues. I waited until my membership ended to post this due to a documented pattern of retaliation by the owner. Safety & Environment: * Crime: Multiple cars have been stolen or broken into in the lot. The owner did not warn members and was dismissive when another member and I were personally threatened by a man on-site. * Privacy Violations: Members were filmed without consent for the owner's adult subscription site. It took multiple requests to remove the footage, and one member was temporarily banned for complaining. * Harassment: A member used racial slurs and made death threats toward others. The owner did not cancel their membership until that individual was caught stealing from the studio. Facility Maintenance: * Hygiene: Roaches have been observed on site and the owner failed to notify the community. * Equipment: Poles are poorly maintained--some sway, creak, or have cracks. Chrome-allergy risks are ignored as poles are moved without labels. The bathroom is often inoperable (clogged toilet/shower used for storage). Poor Management: * Communication: Benefits (like unlimited open sessions) were stripped mid-contract without notice, and members were penalized for using them. Different members are provided with different resolutions for the same issue. Many are provided with no resolution at all. She has switched the app used to provide studio updates 3 times within the past year and is adamant about her being the one to disseminate information through it, but not receptive to members trying to communicate with her through it. Despite switching the app 3 times she expects people to inconvenience themselves by downloading the app du jour each time and as an incentive offers benefits to members that use the most recent app, even though we all have the same membership contracts and pricing tiers. * Volatility: The owner frequently engages in disrespectful conflicts with students, staff, prospective staff, and guests. She has threatened to call the police on a member for simply raising a system issue. Supporting Black-owned businesses is important to me, but I cannot ignore the poor treatment Black women specifically have faced here. Many polers around the DMV started their journeys at this studio, because it's one of the oldest in the area. Many in the DMV pole community have left for the reasons I shared and more. Please do your research and ask around before signing a contract. I wish I had this information before starting a membership. I never would've signed up if I had known. The studio owner has publicly claimed that she's always seen as the villain and the only members that complain are those that don't get their way. But I think if she took the time to sit and reflect, listen to the community, and not approach every conversation defensively it would be a valuable experience. read more

Been coming to My Body Shop for almost a year now, and it's been great! I joined the studio for their Lyra classes and their open practice schedule. For a while Colleen was the only Lyra instructor, but now they have Elixir and Lyra Bae as well. Each instructor's style varies and so do their difficulty level. With interest in Lyra still building up in the area, I think they'll have distinguished levels soon. I like to alternate between the Lyra instructors. What I love most about the studio is that it's very client/instructor centered. Schedules and class offerings are adjusted based on student interest and what the instructors want to teach. It really makes for a fun learning environment. Since joining I've gotten the opportunity to try many of their other classes, like Floor F@$?ery, Pole 1, Chair Playtime, etc. All the instructors are great at what they do and offer their own flair to each class. I have thoroughly enjoyed every instructor I've encountered. They really have me considering starting my pole journey! But I will say this: I hate their website but love the mobile app! Once you start at the studio, please download it bc it will make your life so much easier. There is also an online members only chat available. Their memberships are affordable and they constantly share specials and events on their IG. read more

Absolutely loved this aerial pole class! Elixir was such a great instructor and she was very informative. I love the set up and the feel of the space. Very clean and organized. I went with my bestfriend and we had such a blast... it is a workout so make sure you feel comfortable with what you're doing. Will definitely be back! read more

I started my pole journey here in 2022 and while the dmv pole community is inviting and at one point this studio reflected that environment I unfortunately faced several operational issues that led me and several other members to depart from this studio. While I had no issues with staff or students the owner of the studio improperly handled issues related to sexual harassment, stealing, bullying, racial harassment, studio cleanliness, unauthorized bank charges, and physical threats. If you prioritize your mental and physical health I would consider alternate options and to utilize secure payment services such as Class Pass to protect your personal information. read more

I signed up my friend and I for my birthday. We booked a beginner class but halfway through the class we found out we were being taught a dance that others have been practicing for weeks... also the instructor was very condescending and embarassed me on the spot multiple times. She took it upon herself to give a mini show during our lesson, so we all had to just watch when she randomly stopped teaching. Their "beginner classes"' are not for beginners and I left feeling worse than I came. Will not return. read more

DMV Best Pole Facility I love a business that listens to their clientele and implements change. Revisiting this review as a few changes have been made. If you're coming to the facility for the first time, I suggest using Google Maps as it will direct you right to the parking lot. Arrive at least 5 minutes early for class, to allow time for sign in and changing. This is temporary but for now, make sure to use the restroom prior to arrival. Sign in procedures have been updated, and are very COVID friendly. There is a QR code that you scan at the door to sign in, and complete tour Covid questionnaire. Additionally, the unstable free standing pole was removed; so no more flying beginners. My Body Shop is the perfect place for woman looking for a release and find their inner confidence. It's a no judgment zone, for you to challenge yourself and grow. The staff is friendly and really cares about the facility and clients. Enjoyed my first class here. It was the Pole level 1 class. The instructor Courtney was very nice and funny. She made me feel comfortable. I will say, if you start a class in the middle of when they've taught a routine it goes pretty fast. If you've never done pole dancing at all you should try to go to a class below this one. I have only been here twice, first was the intro to pole dancing. I came with my friend and we had the class to ourselves, I don't remember the instructors name but she was fun and helpful. Second time, my friend and I went for pole 1/2 which we thought was way too advanced for us but we still had fun. The two stars kicks in because we both purchased the BOGO class package for $25, BTW the website to book classes is not mobile friendly nor user friendly, it's hard to find out where to schedule your classes. And when you call they ask you to only book online so that's no help. So we got the BOGO in the beginning of December and they were to expire Jan 5 but I did not know that until I received an email on December 31st. The expiration date isn't even on the receipt. I contacted my Body Shop to see if I could somehow get it extended before it expires and they wanted to charge me an additional $10 per class! Which they marketed as a special, I felt like it was a scam. So my friend and I will never return, they are not worried about customer retention they just want money. It doesn't make sense to pay more for something I had already paid for. And they should put the expiration date on the receipt and maybe remind people their classes are expiring 2 weeks ahead instead 5 days. People have lives. read more

The reviews about this business only caring about money and not their clients or would have been clients are very accurate. I booked through a third party this past weekend and on Monday I received an email that my class was cancelled due to the studio closing their account with the third party. The account wasn't closed prior to me booking so why wouldn't you honor that class especially for a first time customer? Completely turned me off from the studio. In the email notifying me that my class was cancelled, My Body Shop sent me their flier for their introduction class price. Why would I sign up for a studio that wouldn't even honor my first class booking? When I asked for recommendations on knee pads, they said "we have our own!" Huh? Very unprofessional and I will never be joining this studio. Ma'am, you're in customer service. Do better. read more

I was looking forward to my journey learning pole. I took a class with Athena and she made me never want to return. She is a nasty and hateful person. Cannot believe she is an instructor. This is an amazing place and the structure of the beginners classes (so far I've taken pole prep and pole 1) are detrimental to your foundation. Each teacher has a unique warm up that sets you up to successfully complete the class and conditions you to be a strong, sexy, and flexible pole dancer. The size of the classes allows for the instructor to carefully look at what each student is doing so they can correct your form and answer all questions. I have been to other studios in the area and felt like I didn't get what I wanted from the experience because everybody in the room felt super uptight but that's not the case at all at MBS. Everyone is super encouraging and friendly here! The price is SO WORTH IT for the quality of teaching you get. read more

It was a cool little spot. Went there for Twerk after work but they had switched to chair dancing classes. My Body Shop has become my home away from home. I have been looking for a workout that can keep my attention since I have a background in dance and cheerleading. Pole does that and this studio is amazing. The staff is super friendly and the classes are fun. Every instructor brings something unique that can be used in other classes. Classmates are awesome and just as encouraging, will even stop to help you if they can. Every class I feel challenged not only psychically but mentally. Overpriced. Attempted to try something different and took their Twerk After Work class. Totally disappointing. Classes start late. Playlists aren't set in advance so you have to pause and wait for the instructor to find which song she wants. You'll be lucky to get through one routine within the course of one class -- then the instructor will repeat the same routine at the next class. Read all the fine print if you have a coupon. Even if their online registration says you can pay for your friend, you can't. Prepare to be politely dismissed by a condescending instructor -- even if the whole dance studio is empty except for you and your workout buddy. No stupid fine print at my regular class. $5 drop in fee or $20 punchcard with a bonus class. And they don't sweat you if you want to use your punchcard to bring a friend. And we twerk through a whole hours' worth of songs, to boot. I guess my regular instructor understands that the easier it is to participate, the more people will try the class. And the more people that try the class, then more people will sign-up regularly. That's how you get $$$ not by stiff rules and overpriced classes. read more

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this studio! They have helped me become so strong, flexible, and confident it's unreal. I had never been a dancer before coming here but they have brought out a creative side of me I didn't even know I had. The incredibly supportive community is awesome, the dancing is awesome, and the instructors are awesome. The best part is that the instructors really tailor the class to every student there and everyone (of all ability levels!) walks away having defied gravity every class. read more
