I joined this studio in 2021 to support a Black woman-owned business, but I can no longer attend…read moredue to severe safety, hygiene, and management issues. I waited until my membership ended to post this due to a documented pattern of retaliation by the owner. Safety & Environment: * Crime: Multiple cars have been stolen or broken into in the lot. The owner did not warn members and was dismissive when another member and I were personally threatened by a man on-site. * Privacy Violations: Members were filmed without consent for the owner's adult subscription site. It took multiple requests to remove the footage, and one member was temporarily banned for complaining. * Harassment: A member used racial slurs and made death threats toward others. The owner did not cancel their membership until that individual was caught stealing from the studio. Facility Maintenance: * Hygiene: Roaches have been observed on site and the owner failed to notify the community. * Equipment: Poles are poorly maintained--some sway, creak, or have cracks. Chrome-allergy risks are ignored as poles are moved without labels. The bathroom is often inoperable (clogged toilet/shower used for storage). Poor Management: * Communication: Benefits (like unlimited open sessions) were stripped mid-contract without notice, and members were penalized for using them. Different members are provided with different resolutions for the same issue. Many are provided with no resolution at all. She has switched the app used to provide studio updates 3 times within the past year and is adamant about her being the one to disseminate information through it, but not receptive to members trying to communicate with her through it. Despite switching the app 3 times she expects people to inconvenience themselves by downloading the app du jour each time and as an incentive offers benefits to members that use the most recent app, even though we all have the same membership contracts and pricing tiers. * Volatility: The owner frequently engages in disrespectful conflicts with students, staff, prospective staff, and guests. She has threatened to call the police on a member for simply raising a system issue. Supporting Black-owned businesses is important to me, but I cannot ignore the poor treatment Black women specifically have faced here. Many polers around the DMV started their journeys at this studio, because it's one of the oldest in the area. Many in the DMV pole community have left for the reasons I shared and more. Please do your research and ask around before signing a contract. I wish I had this information before starting a membership. I never would've signed up if I had known. The studio owner has publicly claimed that she's always seen as the villain and the only members that complain are those that don't get their way. But I think if she took the time to sit and reflect, listen to the community, and not approach every conversation defensively it would be a valuable experience.

For a while Colleen was the only Lyra instructor, but now they have Elixir and Lyra Bae as well. Each instructor's style varies and so do their difficulty level. With interest in Lyra still building up in the area, I think they'll have distinguished levels soon. I like to alternate between the Lyra instructors. What I love most about the studio is that it's very client/instructor centered. Schedules and class offerings are adjusted based on student interest and what the instructors want to teach. It really makes for a fun learning environment. Since joining I've gotten the opportunity to try many of their other classes, like Floor F@$?ery, Pole 1, Chair Playtime, etc. All the instructors are great at what they do and offer their own flair to each class. I have thoroughly enjoyed every instructor I've encountered. They really have me considering starting my pole journey! But I will say this: I hate their website but love the mobile app! Once you start at the studio, please download it bc it will make your life so much easier. There is also an online members only chat available. Their memberships are affordable and they constantly share specials and events on their IG.

She could be and she be much further along than she is. Recently, at seven, she's had the wherewithal to say, "my new class is so much harder... they actually teach us the right ways and make us do it." Says a lot. I also want to add that this gym offers Friday night fun clubs for about $40. My kid used to love them. However, recently, Fletcher decided to put my child in timeout and tell her that if she didn't do something, she wouldn't get any pizza. Now, it's 2024 and what we're NOT doing is isolating children and threatening not to meet their basic needs (food), especially without calling their parents. When I asked my daughter later about the entire situation, it was clear that Fletcher (who regularly talks too quickly and gets tongue tied) had confused my child. She was genuinely CONFUSED by what he was asking her to do. I think this made clear to me how ill-equipped folks here are to deal with children. Her confusion was SO developmental and could've been addressed/avoided with clearer instructions. But instead, you chose to punish her in an isolating and embarrassing way at what was supposed to be a fun Friday party? Without calling me? Nah, cuz. We will NOT BE BACK. Also, watching your child from a screen vs. in the gym is wack AF.

They tell jokes and intimate stories that help you feel better if you aren't able to do a move effortlessly. I enjoy going here and always feel comfortable. They also offer specialty classes, like "Booty Poppin and Shakin" "Video Vixen" "Lap Dance Specials" etc... Going here, I've gained a great perspective on the athleticism that you must have in order to be a stripper AND look good doing it. They also sell 5-7inch heels here so you can really get the full feeling. If you want to just see without being charged, the Saturday at 12 class is free for first timers.

Except for my pet peeves - expensive parking, the fairly frequent closings for meets, and the very annoying "oops sorry the natatorium is closed today because a few people called out" it would be 5++++ stars. The combination of these really stinks - pay $6.75 for parking only to find the pool is closed. The gym is amazing with dozens of complete weight setups of all types, I can't really imagine a better equipped gym. Basketball, badminton, and lots of other things go on there that I don't know about. I mostly do strength-training and then laps in the pool. The locker rooms are excellent - clean and well equipped. Our experience with Five 678 Studio of Dance--particularly the Dream Dance Company--has been…read morefrustrating, disheartening, and deeply disappointing. While the studio presents a polished image on social media, the reality behind the scenes is one of disorganization, ineffective operations, and a toxic culture far from the nurturing environment it claims to offer. Ownership/creative director is not receptive to feedback and fails to show the professionalism expected of a business serving children and families. Communication is riddled with errors--emails frequently contain misspellings and grammatical mistakes, and essential information is often shared without clarity. This lack of precision carries over into physical products as well. Studio-branded swag, often produced or approved by the director, has been delivered with typos like "stuidio," delayed with no updates, or never received at all--despite full payment. Billing is another ongoing concern. Families are routinely mischarged for small items, with errors excused as simple oversights and rarely corrected unless challenged. Costume pricing is also questionable. Items sourced from fast-fashion retailers like Fashion Nova are marked up significantly, sometimes with vendor tags still attached. Leaving original labels visible while upcharging parents shows a lack of respect for families investing their time and money into the program. A particularly troubling example of poor operations was the studio closure during the height of competition season. Following a scheduled one-week spring break, the studio added another full week of unplanned closure to facilitate a move. Families were asked to help with the relocation while dancers were told to "practice at home." No makeup classes were offered, and no tuition adjustment was made despite the disruption to training and instruction during a critical period. Instructionally, the studio falls short. Dancers receive limited rehearsal time, and there is little focus on proper technique, stretching, or injury prevention. Injuries are common and are often dismissed without adequate support. On competition days, instructors are frequently disengaged--eating or socializing instead of coaching. While other studios rehearse and prepare their dancers, Five 678's students are left waiting, unprepared and anxious. There is no indication of continuing education for instructors, resulting in inconsistent and outdated teaching. More concerning are repeated reports of the owner making inappropriate or upsetting remarks to dancers, followed by instructions not to tell their parents. This creates an emotionally unsafe environment that damages the trust between families and the studio. The culture is toxic and exclusionary. Staff behavior often reflects favoritism, gossip, and cliques. Staff without dance backgrounds have been overheard critiquing dancers' abilities--behavior that is both unprofessional and damaging to young girls' confidence and well-being. The ownership/creative director plays a central role in this atmosphere. She has been observed belittling dancers in front of others, and when families raise concerns or consider leaving, they are sometimes met with guilt tactics such as, "You're hurting a Black-owned business," or told the studio "prefers quality over quantity." These comments are manipulative and inappropriate, especially when directed at children and paying families. Even some staff appear to recognize the dysfunction but remain silent out of fear of retaliation. Several have quietly pursued opportunities elsewhere while keeping their plans private, likely to avoid becoming targets of the same divisive behavior directed at others who've spoken up. What should be a positive, growth-oriented space has become a source of stress and discouragement for many families. Until the ownership/creative director takes meaningful steps to address operational shortcomings and foster a healthier culture, Five 678 Studio of Dance cannot be recommended as a professional or supportive environment for young dancers - especially girls.

As someone who was once a ballet dancer overseas and an AAU Basketball mom, I understand how parents can sometimes feel frustrated, so I knew it was best to experience things firsthand. Fast forward four years--starting with Ballet, then Jazz and Tap, Ballet again, and now Hip Hop--my granddaughter has blossomed! She is now confident, thriving, and exploring diverse genres of dance.
