I was told by the receptionist that North Pointe's insurance program changed and therefore, I owed money. I stated that I was never made aware of this and there are laws protecting consumers. They stated they would look into it. I was told that the bill was reduced, but they expected me to pay half. Again, I told them that I did not think this was appropriate due to the fact of never being told that I would need to pay anything due to their policy change which I should have been informed about. I pay for dental insurance to avoid having to pay for routine cleanings. Plus my husband is ill and not working so if I knew I would have to pay extra, I wouldn't have booked the cleaning here. They said that they look into it and if I didn't hear from them that I could count on the bill being forgiven. I didn't hear from them, but I did get a bill from collections. I'm livid. I thought we were working on handling this together and I thought it was handled, yet they sent it to collections. They lack accountability and compassion.

On two separate occasions, I have had a concern with a tooth and they got me right in, the next day. The doctor checked it out, and was very patient with helping me. My cleaning appointment went well, also, and I ended up going back for a filling appointment. It only took like 5 minutes for the filling! The staff up front is very nice, too. I would recommend this dentist to my people.

But the way a situation was handled yesterday showed a serious lack of awareness and sensitivity. We hope the office reflects on how they approach care for children with additional needs. While they try to work with insurances, they draw a hard line at using amalgams and only use composite resins. Since my insurance does not cover the latter, my family is potentially "on the hook" for the difference (BTW, they have generally only billed up to the amount allowed for the amalgam).

His receptionists and hygienists are kind, gentle, and friendly. They eased me back into cleanings and helped me overcome my fear of the dentist.
