After three years of loyal patronage to My Father's Mustache, it deeply saddens me to write this review. My daughter's recent experience left her hair fried and orange. She had been seeing Jordan for several years and decided to lighten her hair to a more natural color from the black Jordan had maintained. They discussed the long process and agreed it would take around 4-5 sessions to achieve the desired result while avoiding hair damage and the dreaded orange color that often comes from box dyes and inexperienced stylists.
However, during the third session, Jordan made a mistake and turned her hair blue. Recognizing the error, he saw her the following day to correct it. Brittany, one of the owners, consulted Jordan on his plan to fix the mistake and ensure a good outcome. Despite this, she left with orange/copper hair, and Jordan assured her it would "calm down" after a few days. It never did. Instead, her hair rapidly started falling out, becoming brittle and breaking.
When we called My Father's Mustache, she was told she could either get on Jordan's schedule again to be treated sooner or wait until mid-August to see Brittany. Understandably, she didn't want to return to Jordan after he had already ruined her hair in three sessions and didn't want to wait a month to see Brittany for a fix. She had spent close to $900 to avoid orange, brittle hair and ended up with exactly that.
Luckily for us, I noticed I had an appointment with Brittany for one of my regularly scheduled hair appointments that was about a week out. I canceled my appointment to get my daughter in since Brittany was unwilling to come in early or work later to fit her in. According to Brittany, my daughter needed a protein treatment and cut to try and stop the damage from continuing, but this didn't address the color issue. Unfortunately, due to time zone errors, my daughter didn't arrive on time. When she realized her mistake, she called while on the way to the salon, but Brittany told her she had already filled the spot. I understand it is not their place to ensure clients are on time, but during our 3+ years of being clients, if we ran a few minutes late, we would get a call to ensure we were on the way. We never complained when a stylist ran late, and we had to wait on them. My daughter never received a call, which is shocking, considering Brittany understood the situation. She preferred adding a paying client instead of taking time to get closer to a solution for an error her employee made. Instead of calling to see if my daughter was on the way, they called another client to let them know Brittany had a cancellation and then waited for that person to come in.
After several calls and being unable to agree on how to fix her hair, we requested a refund for just the last session, when Jordan initially turned her hair blue, $310.64. They denied our request because "we don't do refunds on services rendered; we just make adjustments to fix what is wrong." This response left us deeply disappointed. They offered an extra adjustment due to our long-term relationship, but considering the previous adjustment was the 'fix' that left her hair orange and brittle, we weren't willing to give Jordan a third try, and she didn't want to wait the five weeks until Britany could fit her in. When explaining this concern to Debbie, the other owner, she said, "The way you describe it, how much worse can it get." We didn't want to find out.
My daughter's hair is now worse than using a $15 box of dye. Now, we have to pay someone else to fix their mistake. My Father's Mustache can be great; our whole family has experienced it for years. Just cross your fingers and hope you don't happen to be one of their mistakes, or you will be left to deal with many tears and a much lighter pocketbook.
"Mistakes happen," Debbie said. Yes, mistakes do happen. It's the efforts to fix mistakes where My Father's Mustache falls short. How you respond to the mistakes separates the good from the bad. read more
