Went here with my boyfriend about 30 minutes before closing. Received our food in not even 10 minutes. We ordered the meatloaf, porkchop, rice, mac and cheese, sweet potatoes, and green beans. This is an absolutely awesome find! I ordered the Chicken & Waffles, Fried Macaroni & Cheese, Greens, Black Eyed Peas, Sweet Potatoes, Beef Tips and Smothered Pork Chops. Don't be alarmed I did NOT consume all that food in one sitting. Plus it was dinner for two :). Everything was delicious and well prepared. You can tell that everything is home made and NOTHING tasted like it came out of a can (won't mention any names as to who uses can foods, let's just say they rhyme with Movers). I wish nothing but the best for My Granny's Kitchen!! I hope they will continue to grow and become an Austin staple for years to come! In my building for work they offer Food Truck Fridays! My Grannys Kitchen has come several times. I kept it simple and tried the greens and cornbread. The greens were tastefully seasoned. And the cornbread that came with it was a slightly sweet but a great contrast with the greens. I will definitely try other items on the menu next time! read more

I visited The My Granny's Kitchen food truck last night as part of Austin's Truck and Trailer food festival, Truck By TruckWest. The signature dishes for the food competition were some utterly fantastic chicken and waffles, and an excellent Fried Macaroni and Cheese. The Chicken and Waffles was the best I have ever had. Chicken that easily is comparable to the famous recipe of Chik-fil-A but superior. Waffles that are crispy on the outside, golden brown and fluffy on the inside with a marvelous flavor. AND a syrup that is not screwin' around. It was terminally delicious. If you have never tried the southern phenomenon of Chicken and Waffles, please do yourself a favor and go here first. so you can see how it is done. Before you let any sucker-pants line cook at Waffle House poison your mind with some sad-ass, punk, floppy-waffle with dry, vapidly breaded crap-O-chicken. For real people. This is the glorious way that God intended for chicken to be served with waffles and you can take that to church on Sunday and go tell it on the mountain! Every time she sells one, Jesus himself laments the wait til his second coming when he can finally have some. As for the fried Macaroni and cheese, well...On Tuesday at the very start of Truck By TruckWest, the estimable folks at 'Hand Helds' presented their version of this appetizer/side-dish and it was a fair entry. Good but perhaps not remarkably good in my opinion. Now tonight, on Thursday, this fine woman's down-home, stick to your ribs, version was expertly crisped to a beautiful crunchy, delicious shell all around on the outside, which through some culinary mastery still remained fully creamy, separated and delicious on the inside. The macaroni, unlike at so many other places who dare to attempt this dish, DID NOT clump together and dry out the cheese sauce a little bit to form unfortunate texture lumps at all, but rather maintained and astoundingly fresh-from-the-stirred-pot flow and flavor of rich, creamy cheese and soft but firm noodles that only the loving art of the kitchen taken to it's mastery could hope to achieve. Home cooked comfort food at its best! The Chicken N Dumplings are stellar...the cornbread is always fresh and moist, and the sweet tea strong and sweet.. perfect every time. But for me, the real star is the macaroni & cheese. It's hands down the best I've ever had...it's deliciously cheesy, and has the perfect balance of spices to add to the flavor. I visited this truck Friday night, with my family, at the Domain Food Truck Court and I've gotta say...the food was so good that we basically got one of everything and kept going back! Were from South Louisiana and it hasn't been easy to find somewhere that has true home cooking but this hit the spot! The brisket sandwich was moist and almost as delicious as the smothered pork chops, cabbage, and beef tips with rice and homemade mac and cheese was so tasty! I cant say enough good things ! We picked up an order to go over the weekend on as Saturday night. My guy was able to park right in front and wait for me, as you may know parking can be a little tricky on Rainey, so this solved that issue. Vann, the cook and owner of Granny's Kitchen is nice as can be. I was looking for a somewhat healthy option after the Thanksgiving binge. I ordered the baked chicken & rice, sweet potatoes, and greens. She packed the food in a big brown bag, nice packaging. The chicken was moist and flavorful, a large portion. Love the sweet potatoes baked in probably sugar and butter, but not too much. The greens were excellent! Look forward to trying more of Vann's food! read more

Fried MacNChesse plus the Chicken and Waffles were ridiculous. The MacN Cheese balls would be even better with some sort of truffle sauce or like a vodka sauce, but still awesome. They visit my office every once in a while, so I gave them a try on one of those occasions... Honestly it was some of the worst food I've had in a very long time. I feel like I'm pretty easy to please, but this was awful. I got the black-eyed peas, mac and cheese, and chicken dumplings. The mac and cheese tasted stale, the chicken seemed undercooked, and everything was just bland. I HATE wasting food, but I ended up tossing about 2/3 of what I got here. On the plus side, the portions were large, and the people working there were nice... On a 10-star system, I might give them two or three, but not two out of five. read more

I had the baked chicken and rice with a side of green beans and it was delicious! I chose white meat and it was super tender and juicy. I appreciated the fact that there were a lot of gluten free options that were clearly marked. I eat gluten but the little boy I watch does not so this was very helpful. The only recommendation I have is to possibly team up with the other trucks to do something about the flies. They were so bad we ended up moving to the car to finish our meal. Can I just say, the first ingredient was obviously LOVE. This woman loves what she does, and she loves the people around her. The portions are hearty. The food is filling. She knows how to season her food. What more can you ask for? This is not your regular food truck experience. I feel like I just went over to someone's house for some delicious home cooking. I love the flavor thus place inflicts in their food. However having both the smothered pork chops and baked chicken and rice at dinner, both end up dry from being prepared earlier for what I imagine is the lunch crowd. I think baked chicken and rice and the smothered pork chop would be moist is an ultimate disappointment. I still give them the stars for flavor but not for the dryness. I think lunch would be my next choice for decision making before ultimately making a final opinion. read more

I came late so maybe that is why my portion did not seem up to snuff for price...chicken and dumplings was ok but overly lemon-y. Collard greens, i really dont know if it was standard or not so i cant rate it. Green beans, classic southern style (over-cooked/canned? To softness). Complimentary cornbread, oddly sweet n i can do better myself...so yes overall not very good. I would not recommend. Granny would not be happy. But the guy working was nice. read more

I got the beef tips with rice and sweet taters. It was just okay. Not amazing but not terrible. 50% of my rice was crunchy and hard. The beef was good but nothing special. The food here is absolutely delicious. I had the pork chop over rice with 2 sides of mac and cheese. The pork chop was tender and delicious and came right off the bone.
