We've been meaning to try this place for a while, and finally made it out today. The restaurant itself is very small, with a handful of tables to eat in. I got a ham & cheese sub. The sub was kind of underwhelming. The bread was great, but the rest of the sub was just okay. They also need bigger plates as mine barely fit and lettuce kept falling out. Before I even make mention of the food, I can't say enough good things about the friendliness of the gentleman working the register. If every business had someone like him, society would be a much better place. During my first visit I tried their Italian #1 with a side of fries that came out crispy and hot (steak fries btw). The sub was refreshing and my eyes were bigger than my stomach as I probably only needed a half. I have found my local sandwich spot... I am lucky to have my Hero Sub shop where I live. This is a no frills simple sandwich place, that is perfect for this guy. I absolutely love this kind of business, a place that only does a few things but does those things very well. no matter what sandwich you choose it will always be on that beautiful soft fresh bread. I've been passing here for 12 years & finally stopped on a Friday afternoon after reading YELP reviews. Yes, this is your regulation old fashioned sub shop. They slice the meat for your sub when you order. They have a menu on the wall next to the counter & you order and your subs are ready pretty quickly. They have about 20 different subs, including a cheese steak and chicken cheese steak. I had a #1 which was Italian with ham, cappicola, pepperoni and a cheesesteak. Their full size subs are big, maybe 12" and the bread was soft & fresh. It's definitely worth a stop over going to Subway or a chain. The subs aren't quite a big a Jersey Mike's but they are cheaper & worth the price. read more

Cheap and GOOD. Past by this place for YEARS and just recently stopped in. I have been missing out. Nice size hoagies at a great price. Meats are fresh sliced and the hoagies aren't overloaded with veggies. No bloated menus. Just straightforward options that offer a nice range of different subs. Ok this is my second visit this year and I love the onion rings and the bun fresh and soft. I enjoyed my sandwich but I think if I oder again I need to ask for extra meat great food served fresh and hot but I can use a little more meat on my sub. The environment was clean the menu is visible to the eye and the staff was friendly as well. Next I'll try to bring the family or just get takeout. I love my hero. I used to work in Beaver Co. and would stop in for a sub all the time. Gentlemen that owns it is always very friendly and a nice guy. Great little family business. All meats and cheeses cut to order. Nice rolls. Place hasn't changed in years food or inside decor and that's a good thing as far as I am concerned. Now when I visit the area I always stop in for a sub. I was just here Thursday and wanted to go again Friday but couldn't find the time. You won't be disappointed. read more

I've probably passed here a million times and have always said that I need to stop some day. Today was finally that day. I went in and picked it my food and was in and out in less than five minutes. I ordered the number one and couldn't even wait to get to work to take my first bite. I was really impressed with how fresh the meat and bread was. It was about $9 for a 12 inch sub. When I lived in East Rochester, my roommates and I would come here every once in awhile and it was always a decent spot to grab some lunch. Five years later it's the exact same place it was back then. You walk in, order your sub at the counter and the guy turns around to make it on the flat top or throw it into the fryer. It's a nice place to grab a quick lunch, but at the end of the day it's nothing special. When it comes to places to eat in Rochester, though, it's almost all there is if you want to walk in and back out of a place with something to eat in a reasonable amount of time. read more

What a disappointment. I really like to support the little guy but this place sucks... Great service but the food is weak at best. The meat is cut fresh but not high quality (square ham?). The meat and cheese is also VERY thin as noted by other reviews. I folded the meat over and left half the bread behind for each half of my "whole" sub. The bread is good but too much. The only thing that was worth eating was the fries. Thick, with ridges, cooked fresh. Yummy! So in conclusion. Great service, poor quality food (bland, tasteless, generic meat), small quantities of meat and cheese (see thru is an accurate description), and short, irratic hours (the first time I went by the place was closed at 4:30 on a Saturday!? WTF? The sign says open until 5pm...) If it wasn't for the fries I would have given only one star and never to return. read more

I used to live in Economy Borough. I've been coming to this business since before it was My Hero's (it was a burger joint) back in the '70s. My Hero has gone through some changes over the years, but the owner has always tried his best to provide a high-quality meal on a roll. I stopped by today after a 3month hiatus and found that he'd remodeled the place to make it ADA compliant, which cost him some customer seating. I can't say that I'm crazy about all of his sub recipes, but he does make them as tasty as any that I've ever eaten anywhere; and I've traveled extensively. I'm personally a big fan of his turkey sub, which he currently makes using Mancini's bread! Judge for yourself, but I highly recommend this place; and the fries are very good too. He does close early sometimes on Saturday because the vast majority of his business is weekday lunch. read more

I've been to this sub shop about four times. Each time I have gotten the same thing- ham, salami, and cheese. And, weirdly, every time I go there is literally less and less on my sub. Today I ordered the same thing and I could actually see through the cheese it was sliced so thinly. Think about that for a moment. It was unbelievable. It's tragic too, b/c the bread was fantastic. Chewy, good. But there was so little on my sub that all I could taste was bread. It was the worst thing ever. I don't know if it is the owner's way of cutting costs or what, but damn, even Subway gives you WAAAy more meat and cheese on a $5 footlong. And that's saying something. The sandwiches are very good for the price. The only reason i did not give a better rating was because of the cleanliness of the restroom. As a female I was disgusted by this bathroom, it looks as if the toilet and sink have not been scrubbed out for 20 years, it's worse than a truck stop restroom.
