My son was potty trained in the first week after we had tried three failed attempts!! My son has always been cared for and watched by the patient loving teachers. The teachers are great at communicating and fixing any problems. There are fun family events throughout the year. He had separation anxiety and SPD so it took him a long time to adjust to the school setting- a late bloomer so to speak. During his first year he received a lot of help from his teachers, Ms. Yicel and Ms. Karla, and within a few months he adjusted and became a whole new little person. Their patience and perseverance absolutely paid off. As far as the actual preschool level, the teachers do an amazing job. The classrooms are divided by the younger 3 year olds and the older 3 years old. Developmentally, there is probably a reasoning to this. I personally didn't like it because essentially all the students would be eligible for TK the following year and there was two different curriculums. My son is thriving and learning his ABCs, shapes, numbers, emotional regulation. He loves school. The school also offers many different schedules which was very important to us. They have different schedules that you can choose from to fit what you are looking for. I think this is very helpful since not everyone is in the same situation. They also offer snacks and lunch which is included in certain schedules so that is very helpful in not having to prepare food for him during the day. The school recently went through a restructuring so to speak and the adjustment has been minimal and there is a lot more open communication. Oh, almost forgot. Since it is a private school the children also attend chapel once a week where they listen to stories and sing songs.

Our experience was so horrible at BCD that years later we still cringe when we think of this school. The parents who don't even know this school are doing an injustice by rating it with just 3 stars. My 2 kids have been attending at this Bonita Country Day School ever since they can start to attend school at age 3. I stayed as long as I can & have been with this school since 2006. In regards to academic curriculum and excellence it is top notch and advance without pressure. BCDS curriculum is 2 years advance on average, and they supplement the lessons most times, so your kids will mostly likely be more than 2 years advance. My kids have been about at least two years academically advance for all their grades when they were tested. In comparison to all the many other elite Southbay and La Jolla private schools I had visited, BCDS is obviously advance. Some of those schools I checked out were even amazed to find out Bonita Country Day School 4th graders are actually doing high school math as a norm. Most new kids entering BCDS for older grades, usually needs help to catch up because they are behind at the other schools they have been attending. Kids are allowed to naturally reach their potential thru independent studies under close administering & guidance by instructors at BCDS. Parents who decide to enroll their kids here at Bonita Country Day School (BCDS) will come to appreciate it watching their kids grow intellectually & be independent thinkers. Many schools boast successful students but they cannot produce great student successfully on high academics like they do at BCDS.. If parents seriously compare curriculum, you will see why BCDS is the better choice. It shows when the kids do well when they have to move on to other schools by academics and exhibits wonderful demeanor. Bonita Country Day School has been known and proven to produce many students who are highly advance learners and thinkers successfully. Note, this school is not big on sports or fancy libraries, or pretentious show of technologies. It is about basic fundamental education to provide your kids with the building blocks for personal success. This schools tuition is a bargain if parents can recognize the real higher cost of putting their kids through standard or less than mediocre expectations at local public schools which are suppose to be free. There is an average of less than 20 kids per class for every teacher. Its almost like you are getting private lessons for your kids. Sign up your kids now. Faculties from competing schools have been known to tell me on many occasions how they highly regard the talents of Mrs. C, the principle at Bonita Country Day. She does work with cooperative parents to help kids achieve high. All my suggestions and kind requests have been met during the time I have been at BCDS. I only have compliments at this school. She is especially gifted to teach & knows how to help your children grow to their fullest potential intellectually. She prepares them for the real world by helping kids slowly build their public speaking skills throughout the coursework in so many subtle ways too. That bonus part is not even mentioned in the curriculum. I have seen so many kids blossom under her special supervision.. This school is gentle in ways but do not expect your kids to be babied. The staff are nurturing, attentive and knows when your kids are feeling off or not well right away, or knows if they are just testing out the teachers patience. The kids are taught to be independent from an early stage through subtle discipline with simple routines that build up through the grade levels. It's awesome if you recognize what they are doing as parents. It is not a school to show off assets, the families who attend BCDS are mostly very successful, highly educated professionals who are also very humble. I retoured all the local Montessori schools and decided to come back to Montessori hills for my third. It truly is the best for our family and it seemed like nothing had changed since my other children went to this school. She's been there for months and everything was going well. Until she started biting out of nowhere. We received incident reports and calls from the teachers and principal. I felt so horrible, but all the teachers and the principal have really been supportive through this. They were firm that this is serious because obviously they don't want the other children to get bitten, but they were also caring and understanding that it's part of her development. I'm a third time parent and this is the first time I'm going through this. They gave me so many tools and resources and have given my child extra support during this time. I could not be more grateful for their guidance. I read another review below saying it's a good school until your child is a problem child. Well I felt like my child became the problem child but in my experience they helped support us through the challenges and it seemed like they really cared. They put a plan in place and I felt like we were all a team in helping my child. She's improved so much because of the care and extra support we have all been pouring into her. I am a foster mom and had two boys that attended COLA, one of them graduated last year and the little one was still there. We see everybody at the school 3 days a week and bio mom takes him to class two days a week. This arrangement went on for an entire year. On 7/14, we dropped off our boy to his last day of pre-k. My husband picked him up early to bring him home and get him ready for his ceremony and at 11:47 I receive I text message from my husband asking if I noticed a scratch and bruise on his face. I had not noticed any scratches or bruises but I remember taking a video of him that morning eating breakfast and took pictures of him before he went to school and those injuries were not there. He came home with a very noticeable scratch on his lower lip, a scratch above his lip and a bruise on the other side of his face. By this I had already sent the director and the owner a text asking what had happened at school and why we weren't notified. I was very upset and asked to find out what had happened. When my husband was at the school the director told him that my boy said it happened at home but he told my husband it happened outside during one of the recess breaks. When I asked my boy, he said that a teacher was there, he cried and also a student was there. The owner responded to my text by saying "we will take it up with his mom thank you". That was not the answer I was expecting, I wanted an answer. My boy just came home with his face messed up on his final day. Any parent would be concerned and want answers right away. I called the bio mom and let her know what had happened, since we had already agreed to meet at the school at 1 I told her I would see her there and we could speak with the owner and try to find out what happened. During that exchange, the owner would not speak to my husband as well. I understand that bio-mom is the legal person that the owner has to notify and speak to but it is not up to the owner to deny speaking at all when it was obvious that the bio-mom wanted us there and had no issue with us hearing what had happened. Bio-mom consented to us being there so the owner had no right to deny us information or to make that decision for bio-mom. I believe that the owner only wanted to speak to bio-mom because she knows that she could easily intimidate, manipulate, or talk down to her which she can't get away with when speaking to us. From the point when the owner first arrived at the school, she was more concerned with ignoring us and being disrespectful then to actually show any concern about the boy. Not once did she look at him, ask about him, or inquire about what had happened. She was more upset about us "demanding" to know what happened than anything else. The owner further stated that the boy getting injured "did not matter" because it was the last day of school. Funny thing was that less than 48 hours before I was yelled at by a teacher during a field trip on a hot day because I was giving my hungry and thirsty boy water and food. A day later, the owner confronted me again about that same incident. Apparently giving water and food to a child does matter but a child getting hurt 48 hours later "does not matter". The owner of COLA and as such has to take ownership when things go wrong. She can't hide behind her bad attitude or want parents to wait over 72 hours later to have a meeting with her. Apparently, she had no time after the ceremony, or Saturday or Sunday to review the video of the incident. She has no people skills to say something to the effect that she is getting prepared for a graduation but will look into the incident immediately thereafter. She constantly escalated the issue instead of being professional. A simple demonstration that she cared about what had happened would have sufficed. She was more upset about us "demanding" to know what happened like this incident was something insignificant. Apparently it was insignificant because in her words, a child getting hurt on the last day of school "does not matter". Some people try to hide their true self behind religion but the owner puts on this façade that she is this caring and nurturing educator and just because she runs a religious school she thinks that those qualities, values, and morals that one associates with religion will somehow be attributed to her as well. People will undoubtedly show their true qualities, values and morals and it took this incident to show her true colors!i

They are patient, kind, and genuinely care about the children's development. My son is always so excited for school and I feel so good knowing he's well cared for and learning so much while I work.
