He really thrived in their class. When there were concerns about his speech development, mrs marty took time out of her day to attend a meeting with a speech pathologist. As it was, speech therapy wasn't needed and his speech continued to develop while at Graham Memorial. This year he has mrs Robbins and she's been such a blessing and awesome teacher. My youngest started there this year too. He is in Mrs Miller's 2yo class. Mrs Miller is an amazingly patient and loving teacher. All the teachers have been amazing, and my kids are definitely learning more than I could teach them at home.

Sacred Heart Parish School. Oh boy... Where to begin?…read more I attended SHPS from 4th to 7th grade in the early 2000s and it definitely left a mark, but not in a positive way. My family moved to the U.S. from Mexico and SHPS was very accommodating in accepting me at such a late stage of the admissions process (although, looking back on it, the admissions "test" wasn't exactly difficult, considering I took it right there and then and passed it on the spot). I will admit that the first year was great; made several friends, the events the school held were great (my favorites being the Blessing of the Animals and the Lady of Guadalupe carnival), and even the hot lunches served twice a week were the coolest thing I had ever experienced (not something you normally saw in Mexico, much less nowadays with all the fuzz going on about healthy school lunches). The problems started when I was in 5th grade. Like any young boy, I started getting into trouble because of a myriad of shenanigans. This wouldn't have been anything out of the ordinary if it hadn't been for the fact that the principal, who no longer works there (thankfully), seemed to have made it his mission to expel me. I came to know the principal's office better than my own homeroom. I should also mention that I had a friend who would participate in whatever shenanigans I got myself into, meaning that he was EQUALLY guilty. However, the principal didn't seem to think so. Oh, and by the way, my friend was Caucasian. So, the Hispanic boy is the guilty one, but the Caucasian one isn't, even though they both engaged in the same type of shenanigans. I'll let you draw your own conclusions on that. The straw that broke the camel's back was when I gave a girl I had a crush on a little notebook that said 'I Love You' on the cover. For some reason, the girl's parents thought this kind of gift was pure blasphemy, because the principal quickly jumped on the bandwagon of calling it "sexual harassment." It seems this gave him enough justification to expel me. I don't know why my parents insisted on me remaining at SHPS, but for some reason, I was allowed back into the school on the condition that I see a psychologist during the summer. I felt like I was on probation during 7th grade and it must've been clear to my parents as well because I had to switch schools a year before starting high school sine it seemed like the principal was going to expel me again if I even so much as sneezed the wrong way. This was almost 20 years ago, and the fact that the principal no longer works there is one good thing the school has going for it, but I can't say for sure if his replacement is any better. If something like this were to happen today, the school would be drowning in lawsuits. SHPS did not hesitate to use the rod.

The classes are shorter in length and give the kids the ability to practice not only their social skills but also motor skills with things like arts and crafts projects, free play, music classes, dress up and role playing. I believe they offer classes starting at age 18 months. I absolutely love it. Not only are the classes smaller in size, they offer a lot of variety in programming and the teachers are fantastic!! Its definitely a gem in Coronado!

Basically it' just a really nice way to be able to go to the gym, run to the store, etc, and know that your child is getting nourished mentally. The owner, Brittani Thiel, has been working with and taking courses on child development since 2003. She is really amazing, and this place has been a gift for me. First, it is structured but unstructured so this really allows kids to grow to become school ready at their own pace. It is not this way at other schools. Also, we really like the fact that they provide snacks and lunch so the kids all are eating the same foods. We know our son, and if kids had items that our son wanted and didn't have them in his lunchbox, it might he a situation, so this works for us better. The teachers and Pastor John are all really kind, caring and wonderful and provide great supervision of the children. We also love the fact that there's always parking to load and unload in front. And we really love the safe playground. There's also a lot of flexibility in the number of days per week and the amount of hours per day, so this has been really wonderful for us as well. Our son is so happy every time he gets to get dropped off and loves being there - we talk about his day every day and things he did at school, so that is very cool! They are also starting a kids ballet and dance class during the school hours, so that is fun as well.

Fleur De Lis is a magical wonderland. My two daughters are currently students at FDL and one of my…read morehappiest days was finding out my oldest got a spot in the Early Learners program. They both started in the EL class and my oldest, who we kept an extra year at FDL, rather than sending her to TK, is finishing up her last year. We've loved our entire FDL experience. The teachers and staff are like family. We love the play based learning and the huge outdoor play areas that encourage kids to explore. My kids have so much fun that they get upset when we pick them up early! FDL also creates a great community environment within the school and each classroom. I've been fortunate to be a room parent for both of my kids and there are many opportunities for parents to get involved in class (reading books, sharing family traditions and cultural holidays, class parties...). We've had fantastic teachers over the years. Ms. Autumn, Ms. Blanca and Ms. Sandra were perfect for the Early Learners class, so loving and nurturing with the 2 year olds. Ms. Kiara and Ms. Amber are great preschool teachers. In preschool, there are "jobs' assigned everyday and it's great to see the 3 year olds learning independence and responsibility through play. Ms. Tina, Ms. Sam, Ms. Sandy and Ms. Chelsea's Pre-K programs are fun and engaging - my oldest was reading by 4 years old. It's truly amazing. The playground has a nature lab, a garden, a "construction site," bicycle paths. The classrooms have a STEAM center, dramatic play, circle time. The kids that leave the Pre-K program are more than ready for Kindergarten...they could probably start first grade! Ms. Bev and Ms. Kira are so involved in the school's operations and truly care for each child and family. They are always open to questions and feedback and have been invaluable during this past pandemic year. While we are incredibly sad that Ms. Tina is leaving the Pre-K program, we know she will also be a great director. We love FDL and recommend the school to all parents.

In our 2 years there, we watched our son grow immensely in his confidence, relationships, and overall love of learning. He was sad to leave school every day and excited to wake up and start the day with his amazing friends and teachers. The approach and philosophy that Fleur de Lis takes truly allows each child to blossom in their own unique and beautiful way and we not only got to experience this with our son, but saw it with his classmates as well. We saw our son make presentations to his class about a science or art project he did with us at home or proudly present his show and tell Spider-man toy to his classmates - we are so grateful to the entire Fleur de Lis community for encouraging this level of self-esteem and individuality.  The staff at Fleur de Lis is truly one of a kind -  the professional, yet individualized attention of Tina Smith and April Kozelh as directors is amazing. They know your child personally and do everything in their power to make your child's experience at Fleur de Lis enriching and creative. Our son still talks about Ms. Tina coming into their classroom and reading them special books (his favorite was about an owl in NYC) and Tina consistently shared specific memories of our son's social and emotional growth during his time there. The teachers we had at Fleur de Lis (Ms. Sandy, Ms. Chelsea, Ms. Amber, Ms. Kiara and Ms. Diana for Spanish) were incredible in every way - we appreciated the attention to the holistic needs of each child - the cognitive, physical, and emotional were all given attention and we saw our son blossom in each area. The day our son "graduated" Fleur de Lis School was a bittersweet one - we were thrilled to know he was ready for kindergarten, but also so sad to say goodbye to the daily moments of this special community. Our son couldn't stop hugging his amazing teacher Ms. Sandy at the singing show - clearly showing the same emotions we felt as parents.
