I have been having lymphatic massage for awhile due to several health conditions. Those previous practitioners were good but Lake View and Bodywork takes the technique to a whole new level. Finding them has literally been life changing for me. Idania is absolutely amazing. One - two sessions with her and I not only dropped nearly a dress size but put all forms of physical therapy on hold as she was able to do with her massage techniques others could not with traditional PT sessions. Nearly cried tears of joy as I got off Charles's table. I came in with knots and tension starting at the nape of my neck and down to my shoulder blades; I couldn't look up past like 60 degrees & my side-to side mobility was slightly limited and (at times) painful. Charles is the best. Not just the best at massage (he's actually a structural therapist, not a massage therapist) but the best person. I started seeing him 2 years ago when I moved to Chicago under quite stressful circumstances and I have been getting a monthly massage ever since, with extras during finals (I'm in grad school.) He consistently makes my body and mind feel the way I need it to feel. When I'm exhausted from studying but have to keep working, I leave Charles feeling invigorated. When I'm exhausted and tense and need to relax, I leave floating on a cloud. I never have to say much, but if I tell him a little bit about what's going on, he can take it from there. As a person who spends way too much time reading at a desk, I have steady neck, back and shoulder problems and he keeps them under control. I also have periodic leg pain from my sciatic nerve and as soon as I mention it is bothering me, he makes it go away. In addition, I have gotten great comfort and advice during my sessions. Charles is truly wise and thoughtful! I find the familiarity of the music and even the sheets very relaxing. It's no surprise that Charles is popular and in demand. But, it is super easy to book. First of all, after every single session he asks me if I want to book for the next month, so it is easy to just take care of scheduling with him. I sought out Charles for an introduction to massage and instead, he one-upped that by explaining bodywork and how the most effective way to help someone is to start with listening and adaptability. My main focus with Charles has been (by request!) my upper back and neck to combat the dreaded effects of Tech Neck. But, the morning of my ~5th or 6th massage, I pulled a charlie horse. My soleus, no less. It hurt SO badly! I was still in pain by the time I saw Charles and he was able to adapt the session to help alleviate the strain and then educate me on what to do after the massage and what to do if I felt another charlie horse coming on. I am so grateful to have found Charles. A friend of mine recommended him to me a few months back, and leading up to my first appointment, I was thinking I was going to have a relaxing massage. However, a few days prior, I was hit with horrible back spasms. By the time I got to Charles, I could barely move and was in tears. He was so helpful and by the end, I could breathe without fearing another spasm would hit. Breath is also very important to him and has helped me realize how important it is for daily functioning. While he works deep enough to reach all muscles, it is never uncomfortable to the point where you hold your breath. In fact, I fell asleep for the first time during a massage. It has trained me to use diaphragmatic breathing when stretching and exercising, which actually helps with achieving a deeper stretch. Without a doubt, the best massage ever. I went there mainly because of carpal tunnel pain in my hands and neck/back issues contributing to it. I had been going to physical therapy, but they could only help so much and weren't addressing my neck or back at all. In just one appointment, I had considerably less pain and more flexibility and it was due to Charles work on my neck and back. My understanding of anatomy is poor, so his technique seems magical to me, but he must have a deep understanding of what he is doing to have felt this much better in 1 hour. I've had 2 more appointments since and booked another for other chronic issues. I feel like I'm in much better shape after each session and continue to improve even in between sessions. Charles has been the best massage therapist I've ever seen. I found him about two years ago and continually return. The monthly club is an excellent way to keep my body from lapsing into tense knots which is how it manifests stress. He has always gone above and beyond for me to make sure I feel great. Charles has always been savant-like with pressure, working on areas that need it and locating areas I didn't even know needed work (but clearly do). Great practitioner and healer! I received a Groupon gift for a complimentary massage during Christmas, 2015. It was set to expire June 26 2016. Therefore, I had to get my act together and use this massage-- ASAP! Charles had ONE opening, June 25 at noon! I took it! Charles is great! The BEST! When I walked in Lake View Bodywork, I was in despair as my primary care doctor and 2 neurologists had told me that I would need surgery for my cervical stenosis. Ah-mazing! I used the Yelp deal to book my appointment and it was an effortless process. Charles sent me a text the day before to confirm the appointment that reminded me of the time, address, and it even had the gate code - making it easier for me to reference when it came time to head to the appointment. Heads up - you're asked to leave your shoes in a cubby outside of his office. Since I was the only one there, I was tended to right away. I filled out a brief information sheet and was in the room and on the table within 5 minutes of my arrival. Charles asked about the amount of pressure I prefer and explain a little about himself, his office, and his technique while he warmed up my muscles, then there was nothing but the sound of my snores for the next 60 minutes. (Sorry, Charles!) He really got in and loosened up the knots that were in my upper back and neck, and afterwards he gave me some pointers on stretching to keep the knots at bay! There was a small amount of natural sunlight in the room (instead of it being a dark), calming tunes, and the room was a good temperature. I enjoyed the experience so much that I went ahead and booked another 90 minutes at the end of my appointment - something I have NEVER done before. My advice: Get the yelp deal while you can and give Charles a chance to work his magic - you won't regret it. read more

Charles is continually booked because he is that good! My schedule is hectic, although online booking is easy and equitable there I times I can't find an appointment. Charles will put me on a "standby" list in case anyone cancels when I'm able to be there. If something is available he'll text the group of standby people at the same time. As for his technique, I have fibromyalgia and arthritis throughout my body. Charles always makes me more mobile and almost pain free! He is truly amazing. I usually fall asleep, which I never do elsewhere, during my appointment. If you've never had a bodywork session with Charles, I explain it as way beyond massage. There isn't excessive pressure, so no residual pain, but each subtle movement puts your body back in a place where it should be. You leave feeling wonderful, relaxed and energized at the same time. And you keep feeling better in the coming hours and days. Charles will always ask me if there is anything specific I would like him to work on. My typical response is you will find the spots that need it most. Literally, I'll mention my shoulder, or something, and soon I'll feel him following the pain, moving along, adjusting his pressure and technique along my spine, or hips, or whatever, making the pain disappear. I love that I don't have to explain each and every pain that I'd like addressed. I've recommended so many people to Charles and they're all extremely satisfied.
