While visiting a buddy in Robinsville, I came across the location. I adored this Mexican restaurant with its authentic Mexican design and atmosphere. Gorgeous interiors. One of the great things that has happened over the recent years here in Hamilton has been the increase in the number of Mexican & Central American restaurants available. For too long a time, the choice just used to be just one place on 33 that no longer exists (even the building is gone). If not there, then one needed to head to Trenton for the Guatemalan places that served some solid tacos to go with their regional cuisine. Now, we've choices galore, and since we're no longer held hostage by lack of options, we actually have to put thought into deciding where to spend our dollars. My Quate has now been serving up tasty south of the border standards for about a half dozen years, and after a number of visits, I can say that My Quate is solidly on my list of places worth going to. The location is on the small side, and every time I've been there, there's been just one person working the front. Sometimes if it's busy it can take a few minutes before the counter person can get to you, but they've always been cheerful and attentive. The place is always clean, and it's got the usual bright decorations that you've grown to expect when going for Mexican style food. Probably my favorite item on the menu is the Tortilla Soup. It has a depth of flavor that hits me where I live, and it's a fantastic cold night dish (or anytime dish), and even the cup sized serving can be fairly filling in itself. If I need some Tortilla Soup, My Quate is my choice. They serve two different types of enchiladas--their House style and their Traditional style. The difference between the two appears to be the toppings and choices of sauces. That said, you need to pay attention. I ordered a House style chicken mole enchilada, and the server asked me if I wanted grilled chicken or shredded. I said shredded, but that only comes with the Traditional style. So what I got was the shredded chicken enchilada en Mole, but instead of being topped in the cheese sauce that the House style gets, it was topped with lettuce and sour cream (which I dislike). Luckily the sour cream wasn't super heavy and by smearing it in with the mole it was hidden, but it was a lesson in paying attention to the menu. That said, the Mole was very good, a hint of sweetness, but not excessively so, and it went down well. The fish tacos served here didn't quite make the top 3 of my faves (https://www.yelp.com/collection/3YtEEhWaFEnyFZ4JjP0nbw/Fish-Tacos-in-Hamilton-Area-Ranked) in the Hamilton area--mainly due to them not being the battered, deep fried style I prefer, but they were the BEST of the chopped, non-fried fish tacos. They were tacos with above average flavor, likely due to the flavorful liquid in which they're cooked (braised?) that's full of tomatoes, onions, and chiles. To top it off, they're served on a fresh, house made tortilla that's got a robust texture that didn't succumb to the wetness of the fish, and that tortilla also had a great flavor that you only get from freshly made tortillas. Probably my only real negative is the salsa that is served with the totopos at the beginning of the meal after sitting down. It's just lifeless and is like dipping your totopo into a bowl of crushed tomatoes. There's no pico in that gallo. Aside from my minor issues with the free stuff, My Quate is well worth the visit if you're looking for a quality Mexican style meal. read more

My Quate is great! When you walk in, there is beautiful and colorful artwork on the walls. It's very inviting. The place is kinda small but there are tables to sit down with groups. We were asked to sit down and checked on about what we wanted to eat. The waiter was great and also seemed very busy. The food was wonderful! To start, they bring out chips and salsa, which was delicious. I ordered 3 tacos. Shrimp, steak and al pastor tacos with option 1 - onions, cilantro and lime. Let's start with saying I never order enchiladas at a new place because I have been disappointed so many times....guess what I decided to do at my first time at My Quate?? Yes, I ordered the My Quate enchilada platter (brings one of each type - chicken, pork and meat) and it was AMAZING! Their green sauce is different from other places with just the right touch of lime and crema and each enchilada brought their own little touch to my delicious plate. After each bite, my husband and I looked at each other to reconfirm how GOOD this food is! Hubby ordered a full platter of the chicken enchiladas that were equally as amazing. The salad topping was a nice touch of crunch as well. I contemplated not ordering my 3 yr old a full plate and just sharing, but i am SO GLAD we got him his own. He cleaned his plate of rice and pork, then proceeded to steal my black beans! I wish we had room to order more from the menu, but we were so stuffed that we just rolled out of there and straight into a food coma. I must comment that the staff was so sweet and attentive. We were the only ones dining room and they kept coming in to check in on us and get to know us. I left feeling like we made friends and got the most delicious meal. We have been regulars, the staff knows us yet that didn't seem to factor in this Sunday night. If you look at my other reviews, they were favorable. Not tonight! We started out well with the chicken soup which is always good. My wife's burrito was as always. Since I don't like all the sauce and cheese used in most dishes, I try other dishes which also happen to cost more and perhaps the kitchen staff are not as familiar with preparing no - burrito or fajita dishes. I asked a few questions tonight about the shrimp skewer dish I ended up ordering. Was told two different descriptions- one by the new server and one by the female server that we've seen a few times; she was convincing of the preparation. However the dish presented was not the dish as to have been prepared. Skewers we were told would be 6 medium shrimps alternated with peppers and onions. The dish presented had just the six shrimps on the skewer. They realized after the fact that it was wrong, but instead of redoing it, they brought me a small side dish with two cooked peppers and cut onions. Very disappointing as it had no flavor and it is an $18 dish. Bad for me for not sending it back. Bad on them for letting it out of the kitchen that way and not correcting repreparing it. One thing about this staff, they are super polite and apologetic. More times then not on previous trips, we hear staff apologizing. Great but in my case they let it go. The Sunday staff are too inexperienced on customer management. They should have it in their power to avoid reviews like tHis one. We will need to pause and look for another option. read more

This is a true authentic restaurant! This place has an amazing decor set up. As soon I walked in I felt like I am in a different country. Very well done! The restaurant is very clean with super nice management. Even though I walked in 20 minutes before closing, staff was happy to take me in. As soon as food arrived to the table I already knew that it will be a feast! Food presentation and quality is 5/5. I ordered fresh steak tostadas (very fresh and pretty spicy) and vegetarian taco salad (fresh with a delicious crispy bowl to it). Will definitely come back to try something new. MQ has taken over the space of a decent sandwich shop that I used to visit. In my review of that business I mentioned that there was already several other similar spots nearby, and wondered if it was wise to open another. I'm sad to see that they failed here, but am cautiously optimistic that a quality Mex restaurant might be sustainable. I stopped in a few days ago for takeout and was happy to see fresh and brightly painted walls and tables, it's a small space, maybe only 10 tables but now very welcoming for those wanting to eat in. I selected the chicken tacos a la Mexicana and also an order of guacamole and chips. When I arrived I was greeted by who I assume were the owners, they were enjoying a family meal. Even the young lady who rang me up was very friendly. I was already hangry when driving home so I chalked that up as to why my car smelled so good. But once tasted I realized that these were very good tacos, this version utilized thick soft corn tortillas that were a bit smaller than other restaurants I'm familiar with use. In fact if I had one complaint it would be that the portion size for this item is pretty small. But the chicken itself was tasty and tender, with jalapeño, melted cheese and onions. One of the better chick tacos I've had recently. The guacamole was legit too, properly seasoned and with diced tomato, just the right heat and creaminess. The homemade chips were of the thinner variety, but very good too. As an astute reviewer already noted, there are many options for this caliber of Mex food closer to the metro Trento area, but for the burbs this is a clean and Gringo friendly winner. Hunting for a hearty breakfast one morning, My Quate seemed to fit the bill perfectly. A Mexican burrito complete with chorizo sausage seemed to be a perfect choice to fill the tummy and take away some of the monotony of a rainy weekday morning. The inclusion of home fries on all the entrees, always a plus, only served to solidify the choice to visit My Quate. I ordered takeout ahead of my visit and didn't have to wait very long to pickup my order. I promptly paid and left with my order. Digging in quickly, first thoughts centered on the lack of crisp or browning on the home fries. The texture of the potatoes was also just short of mushy but had good flavor without being too salty. Overall, it was ok but it definitely would have better with some exterior crisp. Next up was the Mexican burrito. Again first thoughts initially didn't look promising given that the cheese didn't look melted enough. Worse, upon closer inspection, the burrito was missing a key ingredient, the egg which was no where to be found. Although the broken up chorizo in the burrito was delicious on its own, the missing egg component was definitely noticeable, and sorely missed. The restaurant dining room looked well kept and clean. The hostess was really nice and friendly as well. Partially for that reason, I will visit again and hope that my next meal will be better in quality. read more

Had to push just to use the coupon to they offer. A couple came in to dine in while I waited. Hm, I'm kind of surprised at the very high average rating for this restaurant! My wife and I grabbed lunch here recently and we thought it was OK but not amazing. The cashier was polite and helpful, so thumbs up for that, and they prepared our food reasonably quickly, but there was was one significant issue: the price! I got 3 soft shell tacos with ground beef, onion, cilantro, and lime, and my wife got the shredded chicken quesadilla. Combined, we paid over $20 for these two entrees. This would have been OK if the quesadilla was large and packed full of delicious fillings, but it was really small and only had the basics. My tacos were also pretty vanilla - sure, they tasted fine, but for $10 I expected a little more. More toppings, more meat, more something! The flavors were decent and I can see why people appreciate that (they're authentic!), but the prices are just a little too high for me. Maybe they're slightly higher than normal due to the pandemic? This is authentic Mexican at its finest. Nothing fancy or pretentious just solid good food. We ordered the veggie enchiladas and the fish enchiladas. One with black beans and the other with refried beans. Both entrees were fantastic. The complementary chips and salsa were homemade and delicious and so were the trio of homemade hot sauces. My Quate joins the growing list of superior Mexican restaurants in and around Hamilton, reflecting in large part the changing demographics in the Trenton area. While most of these muy autenticas cater to gentes Latinos, this one on RT. 33 is designed for the rest of us as well. Bilingual menus and a charming two generation family, with papa in the cocina, mama behind the counter, and abuela working the floor. They all greeted me warmly when I stopped by late this week to check My Quate out for lunch. Their dining room looks like most, with colorful Mexican village scenes depicted on table tops and chair backs, and decorative paper cut pastel sheets hanging from the ceiling beams. The menu has most of the usual suspects, with a slight orientation to the Norte Americano pallet and without some of the more ethnic dishes favored in Mexican homes. Can't fault them for knowing their market. I went with chicken flautas (flutes) - 5 deep fried tortillas stuffed with ground chicken, cheese and pablano pepper, covered in iceberg lettuce and drizzled with cojita cheese sauce. I poured the red chunk salsa from the chips table basket over the top to enhance the burn. They were crunchy excellent. It has been a while since a lunch order carried 5 pipes. It was quite filling. The horchata rice drink was best of breed, tasting like high quality liquid rice pudding, with a tasty sprinkling of cinnamon. For now, My Quate is the best choice for Mexican grub on this side of town. Excellent addition to the Route 33 corridor in Hamilton! My Quate is a family run Mexican restaurant that has taken over F.D. Subs former location. The interior has undergone a complete makeover, complete with bright colorful walls and custom-decorated chairs. I went in on Friday night for a take-out dinner and found every table in the place occupied, a good sign. While I was at the register waiting to complete my order, I was speaking briefly was a couple who was making their third trip to My Quate, an even better sign given the fact that it has only been open a few weeks. My wife had the shredded chicken enchiladas and I opted for the chorizo stuffed poblano pepper. The enchiladas were perfect, stuffed with a generous portion of perfectly marinated chicken and topped with a tasty salsa verde and queso fresco. As delicious as the enchiladas were, the stuffed poblano was even better. The pepper was absolutely packed to capacity with crumbled chorizo and cheese, lightly coated in egg batter and topped with some sort of red sauce that complimented the flavor amazingly. Both dishes came with ample sides of rice and beans (black or refried). We both finished our meal with the best rendition of Tres Leches that I have found in the area. My Quate is the kind of establishment any community would be lucky to have. I truly wish them well, because not only is the food delicious, but every member of the family was courteous, friendly and a pleasure to deal with. We had a great meal at My Quate! We came here around 5:30 on Saturday night and dined in. The restaurant had a steady stream of customers picking up take out and about two other tables dining in. The waiter was super friendly and even changed the television station so we could watch the football game. He brought us free chips and fresh salsa and we tried a hibiscus tea which was delightful. We ordered the homemade guacamole, queso blanco, shredded chicken enchiladas and the Big Boy taco combo. The guac was really tasty and fresh, definitely recommend ordering it, but you can skip the queso. The enchiladas come in a suizas style. It was stuffed with well seasoned chicken, delicious tomatillo sauce, with fresh lettuce and cojita cheese. The rice and refried beans stole the show! Additionally, the Big Boy tacos came with 2 steak, 2 shrimp and 2 chicken tacos stuffed in warm flour tortilla and piled high with lettuce, cheese and tomato. We can't wait to come back! read more

I was driving home from Delaware and I saw this place was not too far from the turnpike and Google reviews was good. Anyhow I ordered the veggie enchiladas and they were bland. They put a lot of pick de gallo on top and the salsa verde sauce lack flavor. The refried beans were on a watery side. The food lacked flavor overall. Fresh ingredients, well prepared. I WILL be back, read on... The words of some who have been very critical of the blandness of the food ring true to some extent. I myself would prefer spicier food, but the restaurant provided yummy hot sauces (I'm thinking they made them, fresh and delicious) and I was able to tailor the taste to my liking, and thus had the best Mexican food I've had in years. So don't be scared if you're a hot & spicy fan, just be sure to get some sauces (Habanero and Chile de Arbol.) Guacamole was just the right consistency, nice garlicky flavor, beautiful avocado, no changes needed. Chips are probably the best I've had, crisp, thin, tasty, and little or no salt. My main dish was Shredded Chicken Tostadas, delicious but not spicy hot, and the chicken was a *wee* bit dry but the other moist fresh ingredients, and my addition of their super-duper Habanero pepper sauce made them perfect. Finally, for dessert, I had Tres Leches cake. Man, oh MAN! Fluffy, moist, sweet, just heavenly. I don't usually get thrilled by desserts, but this one was awesome. By the way, as a footnote, the owners are sweet, wonderful people, and so I think I will be very happy to in the future enjoy their good food and in the process help them make a living, again and again. Three of us ordered enchiladas and not one of our plates was the same which was so neat because we each got our own personal faves Beef/Mole, Chicken/Tomatillo, Pork/Red Sauce. All served with tasty beans and rice, and all very very delicious!! Oh and you absolutely must get a Horchata to drink!!
