Back in July, 2023, I went to My Religion Tattoo to have a "book" and the word "READ" tattooed on the back of my left hand, plus the word "PLAY" tattooed above the "musical note" I already had on the back of my right hand. The tattooist was Marcus. Everything looked fine when they were finished (Photos 1 & 2), and a month or so later I returned for a touch up on both words, as the lettering had begun to spread and lose definition. The book and note were fine. Shortly thereafter, though, I noticed some swelling on both words and went back to My Religion, where--as far as I can remember--I was told that some swelling was to be expected and to just wait. Flash forward several more months (I'm guessing December, 2023) and the "swelling" had become so prominent (Photos 3 & 4) that it interfered with a photoshoot I was involved with (Even makeup couldn't disguise it--it looked like embossed stationery!) And, as far as I can tell, it continues to get worse. So, later that month I returned again to My Religion and was told that what I was experiencing was probably due to an allergy to the red ink--of which I most certainly was not informed initially--and that nothing, really could be done about it. The "possibility" of laser surgery correcting it was mentioned. And, that was it. I asked my dermatologist about this and they said nothing could be done. I'm especially concerned that the words will eventually become unreadable! So, I have two complaints: One, Marcus should have mentioned that *some* people were allergic to the mercury in red ink, and I certainly would have considered a different color; and, two, some sympathy from the person I spoke in December with would have gone a long way toward mollifying me. read more

I can't say enough good things about this place! We stopped in on a whim this past week to make good on a tattoo that I've been considering for about 3 years now. Ali make quick work of the check-in process and had me in the chair within about 15 minutes of walking through the door. She was great about listening to my needs and making sure the print-out was perfect. The actual inking process was quick and easy. Her lines looked beautiful and crisp and I was over the moon about how it turned out. Pricing was reasonable and expected for the quality and ease. Ronnie did my tattoo she does that finer line stuff which I LOVE! Ive found my tattoo person. The studio is clean, organized, well kept, and the process is very professional and courteous. Ronnie was so friendly and warm! After we finalized the placement of the tattoo, and before we got started, she even got a 2nd opinion from another artist there just as a QC for the placement, which I really found to be a good idea. My family and I all went to Reno one weekend to get matching tattoos. Our youngest daughter was almost 17 at the time and this place was willing to tattoo her with parents permission. The staff were welcoming, and friendly. Our artist was awesome, a apprentice (at the time..) and did really great work. Our experience here with Ali has been so wonderful. We got our first tattoo with her last November and then recently another one a couple weeks ago. The facility is very clean and they take a lot of time in between clients to make sure things are set up properly and sanitized. I appreciated Ali's expertise, artistry, her patience, and care. I am very disappointed with this tattoo shop. I'm not going to name-drop but my tattoo experience here was awful. To start with my tattoo person was not friendly or personable and did not seem like they wanted to be working. It's not that this defines a good tattoo artist to me but for things, I will mention is why I wish I can leave zero stars for this shop. I came in to get a pretty basic tattoo that wasn't very large and without much detail. My artist was so slow and seemed to want to drag it out on purpose. It took hours! I don't know if this was to make as much money off me as possible or to make me uncomfortable for a prolonged period. When finished I felt as though I got a half-ass tattoo and, to say the least not thrilled that I spent so much money. About a month later some of the ink had fallen out so I called and asked if I can get a touch-up. I was given a very rude, annoyed attitude over the phone and was told it would be $50 for a touch-up regardless of how little because this is "taking up time they can make real money not to waste their time". I work in warehousing and am off on weekends, I was told this was out of the question to have a weekend slot because it is "taking up this valuable time". So I scheduled my touch-up appointment for three months out on a Wednesday. Sadly, I had to call and try to reschedule due to a conflict with work. I was told a blatant lie, "that this was my third time to reschedule and if I don't make it in they weren't going to do it at all". I said okay I will be there and will do whatever it takes to make it in. Then I was told, "you know what I don't even want to tattoo you and don't want you to come in." To be frank I was pretty pissed off. I just hope whomever reads this finds a better place to go for their tattoos. Best of luck! read more

Went for a walk in midtown when my wife was here on a visit before we are moving here permanently. Went around midtown and wanted to show here how much midtown is revitalized and some really cool places. Always wanted to get a family tattoo with dates of everyone in my immediate family. So we ran into this shop. Decided to do it. People were awesome. Jade did my tat and I love it. She is inked up and she had a great demeanor. Was very good. Would definitely go back. The customer service was fine, but it was very overpriced. My friends and I got three small, very simple, butterfly tattoos, no shading or anything, they took 10 mins each and we were charged $150 EACH. I have many tattoos from multiple shops and the ones I have that have cost $150 took around two hours, not 10 mins. We were there for an hour all together getting the tattoos so $450 seems unreasonable. I understand artists set their own prices but for something so small and so quick this didn't make sense. Basically just another mid tattoo shop. My friends got tattooed for the first time here. They had the nerve to charge $150 each for 3 tiny butterflies (LITERALLY NO SHADING). Only revealing this after the tattoos. I have numerous tattoos that price and they are all much bigger and actually shaded. The work took an hour total... the artist made my humble college student paycheck in one hours work. Any artist in the world could've done these tattoos and would've for half the price. I now know why the pricing was such a secret beforehand. Don't come here if you want a good tattoo experience. Not to mention the little kid yelling and running around the shop the entire time coming within feet of each tattooing table. Very odd experience. read more

3 years and still going! I got my first tattoo here (16yo). It was a small flash really; more time setting up than tattooing. Its a reminder for coming out of my suicidal depression for the first time. I got my second tattoo here (17yo) a 6 hour, 2 session, peace for my passed papa and I couldn't treasure it more (Thank you Dug!). I got my most recent tattoo here as well (18yo). With my mom about an inside joke. All of the staff are amazing, they give you confidence for your first and learn your limits the longer you go. I am not new to getting tattoos, but I am new to the Reno area and had no idea what shops are good or bad, clean or not clean, professional or not professional. So, after some research and talking to people I came across My Religion Tattoo. I was going to add to my collection, my wife was getting her first, so she relied on me to find the right shop she would feel comfortable in getting her first tattoo. The minute we walked in the door, there were two artists there. They greeted us right away, were friendly and answered my questions as well as my wife's. The shop was clean and not cluttered. The artists showed us where they kept their portfolio books, we looked through them. After looking through the books, we decided to go with the two artists that were there talking to us that day. My wife even said I feel comfortable, so that was a huge relief. We scheduled the tats and left our deposit. The following week we went in for the tats. Again, greeted with a smile and professionalism. The artists told us to give them a few minutes to finish setting up, which is normal. They showed us the design that we had brought to them and modified it exactly how we wanted it. My tats were on my leg, but my wife for her first tattoo got hers down the middle of her spine. Me being old school, I laughed and said "this should be interesting." However, I hadn't gotten tattooed in a long time, so I had no idea the process, guns, and needles had changed. Not to mention the process for when the tat is finished. All different from what I am use to. Glad to see the process has greatly improved. Back to the process. It went as smooth as can be and for the most part, completely painless. Even for my wife down the middle of her back. We, or at least me will be going back without question.
