Lo and behold, that of course meant midnight on Thursday night/Friday *morning* ... OOPS. The driver was looking for me that Thursday night, calling and texting me from the pickup location and wondering where I was. I slept through his calls and felt awful about the whole mix-up. When I called to explain first thing in the morning, they didn't hesitate to fix the reservation. In addition, I'd texted the driver to apologize for the miscommunication, and he was *amazingly* gracious. He totally understood and gave me his name and driver number in case we ever needed them again in the future. Uber is the greatest way to travel in NYC!…read more Install the App everyone! I was in NYC this weekend. It was raining. No cabs so I called Uber. WOW! In a sec they told me how many cars in my area, the closest one, how many minutes away. Photo, Name, license plate, color & model of car! I used it three times. No money exchanged hands, everything is done with your account. As long as you have your phone your all set to go!!!! Uber drivers take you anywhere ( nothing is too far & return you later) including NJ, PA... No cab driver moaning about how many fares he'll lose. I am a New Yorker at heart. I know my way around the city very well. Unfortunately there is always construction going on, but I know where I'm going.

The first driver with a 4.9 canceled on us 48 hours before and it was assigned to a second driver, Brianna. Brianna (rating of 4.95) decided 15 minutes before arriving to cancel as well (we were afraid it was going to happen as no car was on the road at 20 minutes before departure). We did this as an experiment to see how reliable Uber really is at early hours. So, I got up, drove my wife and kids to the airport in Hartford, CT. The drivers don't want to get up that early in Connecticut so if you want support, avoid Uber. I did this as a test because I knew could drive them if the car did not show up (I have to work today so I was not going). In the future, we will pay more for a car service to do this because Lyft failed the same test last year. These car services are good for daytime travel only - early morning or late night you can forget about reliability because the drivers can abandon you with little time left to get another option and you will not learn this from their scores as they cancel before you can rate them.
