Not only is their clothing completely overpriced for a thrift store, but the management or owner is rude and insensitive. They don't follow costumer service regulations, and they allow screaming children to run rampage. They heavily monitor you in the changing rooms and make you feel very uncomfortable and rushed (me and my daughter both experienced this). They also falsely accused us of changing the price tags and took our pictures without our consent. The clothing is incredibly disorganized and the store and the clothes are quite dirty. I would never recommend this store to anyone that is looking for decent clothes at a reasonable price. If you're looking for something better I would suggest goodwill on university in St. Paul or savers in Apple Valley. Please save your time and your money it's not worth it. read more

Though the store was well stocked and well organized I will not go back. The prices were very high. You will do better at Goodwill stores. Also, I was put off by the self check out. Generally, I don't use self check out anywhere I shop. Why not have the registers staffed? After all, I don't work there. Used to be Unique. Is now MyThrift. Frankly, only worth going on sale days, because everything is way more expensive now (ie 10$ is average for jeans, $15 and up for well-known brand names on everything. This used to be a Unique Thrift Store, but has been changed into a My Thrift Store. In talking with the employees, there is no connection between the former and latter businesses, yet some of the same employees are there and the current manager is one who was previously the manager of a different Unique Thrift. This makes the the claim "no connection" seem less than believable. As an antique dealer, thrift shops are part of my usual circuit. Because I buy to resell, I am able to claim exemption from sales tax, as the sales tax will be paid by the person who buys it from me, unless that person is another reseller who buys it exempt from me and then collects from the end-buyer, etc. When checking out at this location, I mentioned I was tax-exempt and expected them to hand me a copy of the usual exempt form to fill out and give back to them. The manager stepped in and said they don't handle exemptions. Well, it turns out they DO do them, but only for charities, which is discriminatory. If you're going to allow exemptions for one allowed entity, then you need to do it for all allowed entities. This manager turned out to be one of the biggest capital B's I've run into in a long time. Her behavior was atrocious and completely unacceptable and she needs to be reprimanded. In its new guise, I've noticed that many employees don't seem able to converse in English, which makes it difficult if you have a question and some employees seem to think it is appropriate to shout to each other halfway across the expanse of store. The merchandise is of average quality for a thrift store, but I have to give it a "1" rating for deplorable customer service and for its tax-exempt discriminatory practices. read more

Store has "rules" that aren't posted on the door. No food or drink allowed which is fine but again not posted and when approached I felt mugged by the officer on duty. Rude management and generally inept staff despite some decent quality stuff albeit high priced. Don't recommend and I live close. FYI.. Not Unique thrift anymore. read more

Store does not honor sale signs- there were multiple 50% off furniture signs left up in the store today. The man at the registers was rude and condescending when questioned as to why they wouldn't honor the sign. Claimed the signs were missed and they would not honor the price. Will not shop here again. read more

Let's talk about May 2009, I went to Unique after vising the dog park south of there. I found a Vintage Leather Jacket that seemed special to me. I payed 6 bucks for it and sold it for 2 grand to some dude in Japan. This is what keeps me going back to thrift stores. read more

Three workers (2 of whom were male; I am female) pushed into my changing room, grabbed me, and accused me of stealing from this store. I did have more than 3 items, but I was sorting out which ones I wanted to try first. I am just glad I still had my clothing on. The man (owner?) was threatening and violent. They tried to take my own coat away from me, yelled at me, and tried to physically restrain me. I was so shocked and confused, all I could do was try to take my things and leave. I nearly had a panic attack in the parking lot. It was one of the scariest interactions I've had in a store. I would not recommend anyone, especially single women, go to this store. read more

I shop at the Sunray location often. Perfect place to buy vintage blazers and coats. Who doesn't love a great bargain? Although I have to say that since they've stopped purchasing their merchandise and now depend on donations; the quality of stuff has decreased. Still a wonderful place to buy clothes. read more

This is the best thrift store I've found in the Twin Cities for men's clothing. Jeans, shoes, dress clothes -- they have a good selection of all. Good brands at good prices. They also hand the pants waist-side out which makes it easy to confirm sizes without pulling them off the hangers. Until I found unique, the best I could do was Goodwill in South Saint Paul. They seemed to have a HUGE selection of clothing in HUGE sizes. Not my thing -- but if you wear plus sizes, you'll find a lot of options here. Good selection of kitchenware too. I went here with my fiance and mom on Labor Day weekend. Based on other reviews, I went in with no expectations- especially since it seemed very busy. I'm glad it was 50% off day for members (you could sign up for free at the register), because otherwise we would have spent $60. We found a TON of stuff, and still left some things behind. I had luck in nearly every department, and there were a bunch of things still with the tags for a fraction of retail cost. My fiance didn't have great luck in men's jeans, but he is very picky. I on the other hand did have good luck in jeans. The store was well-stocked, and employees were stocking as we were shopping. The fitting rooms were easily navigated, and self-serve with a 6-item limit (4 or 5 stalls, I think). The store itself was clean for a thrift store, and racks were labeled well. I have been going to this thrift store for almost 20 years and have found many deals. The last few years though I found the prices have gone sky high, $39.99 for a pair of used mens dress shoes? Wow. As for jeans they are really across the board. This past year I lost my mother and mother in law and have givin thousands of dollars worth of items. I would like to see the prices go back to thrift store prices. Other thrift stores have all jeans for $4, shirts $3 etc. read more

Picked out an item. After the cashier rang me up I noticed underneath the price tag there was something wrong with my statue. The statue was peeling no paint. It was obviously the people pricing them put the price tag over the flaw in the statue. I wanted my money back they said no refunds. I talk to the manager would not even make good with it. This is one of the most well kept thrift stores I've ever been in. Plenty to look at if you are browsing, and organized enough that if you know what you're looking for you can find out if it's there with little searching effort. Store is clean and prices seem fair or a good deal. They have women's, men's, and children's clothes and shoes, purses, home accents, sporting goods, some furniture, and lots of other "stuff." The electronics aisle is almost always crowded - seems they could benefit by spreading that section out a bit and offering shoppers more space to pass each other. The store is huge and the aisles are crowded so plan on spending a couple hours to navigate the place if you are serious about shopping. I would leave the kids at home for this trip. Shopping carts are provided, but they have no fitting rooms, so you are stuck with whatever you buy if it doesn't fit. I would suggest taking your measurements first and bring a measuring tape with you. They have many full length mirrors, so if you come dressed in a tank top and shorts, you can try stuff on over your clothes. Went in on a Saturday to look for a winter jacket. Ended up with much more than just a jacket, and when they totaled everything up it was $109.00. On the bottom of the "cart: (little basket with wheels) was the jacket I had spent about a 1/2 hour picking out. It was a Kmart brand, Basic Edition, black with a smear on the front lapel that I figured I could wash out. It was tagged at $4.99. The cashier said "this wrong price" and "you wrong price". I didn't understand what she meant, meanwhile she called up a man named Yacsel. He tore off the tag and said it had been "manipulated" and that he couldn't sell me the jacket. I was in shock, I was spending $109 at a thrift store & they were accusing me of changing the price of a jacket?? I pointed out that the tag matched the jacket, it was a Kmart brand & there was a stain. He said nope, the tag had obviously been switched. I said that did not seem fair & could I speak to someone else. Yacsel called up another man, his name was Darryl. Darryl said they could not sell merchandise without a tag. I said the guy had just removed it. I told him to look at the camera footage, I was not a thief. He literally just kept saying that he could not sell merchandise without a tag. It was almost comical. I told him that I wanted to take a picture of the tag, since the info DID match, so it was unlikely it had been 'switched'. At this point Darryl grabbed the jacket & said no, I had to leave the store & was not allowed to ever shop there again. I said what do I have to do, call the police? Darryl's reply was "go ahead, they are on my payroll, so you won't get away with anything". Needless to say, I left, never to return again. Good luck to this store. Over priced, no customer service skills & in the neighborhood it is in, I can't imagine it will be able to last too long. :-( read more
