    Sky sleeping like a baby
    Alexandra S.

5 stars for Myers Country Inn! What a hidden gem! Staying at this beautifully preserved old stagecoach inn felt like stepping into a storybook--with all the charm and none of the hotel-chain chemical smell (as a doctor, I deeply appreciate that!). Matt was incredibly kind and welcoming--friendly on the phone and just as genuine in person. The rooms are spacious, cozy, and full of character. You can tell this place is lovingly maintained, down to the dreamlike garden that Sky (my pup!) and I absolutely adored. I slept like a rock (a very happy one), and so did Sky. If you're looking for a peaceful, dog-friendly, toxin-free getaway with heart and history--this is your place. Merci, Matt and team, we'll be back! -- Dr. Alex Schulthess

Loved our stay. Thank you for the fabulous, fireside breakfast.

The web page https://www.humboldthouseinn.com/ showed a lovely hotel with a pool and spa. We checked Earth Google, found the hotel, and the sign outside also said there was a spa there, as it did when we drove in. So we made reservations and all brought our bathing suits. What the web page, sign, and reservations page did not mention was that the spa had not been open for the past 5 years. See the attached picture, taken from the balcony of our room. (The reservation page has since been modified to say "Our pool & hot tub are closed. We are currently doing renovations to some rooms.") It also did not mention that the ice machine for the hotel was not working, and did not work at all. We had to buy ice each night from grocery stores in town. Nor did it mention that guests had to ask to have their room serviced -- towels changed, bed made, and the usual housekeeping work one expects from a Best Western Plus. The on-site staff were helpful and excellent. For example, when we asked our room be serviced, the housekeeper did so quickly and efficiently. But the inn was far below the standards we expect of a Best Western Plus. We spoke with various people, and they said the hotel had not been upgraded for years. It desperately needs an overhaul.

Had to knock off a star because our room was so cold the first night: 64 degrees. Another couple complained about the low temp while we were at the front desk. I was in the bar briefly (we didn't have a corkscrew) and the staff ladies there were most accommodating. The hotel is 100 years old this year, and running some promotions to celebrate. Complimentary sherry in the room lasted both nights. Room deco was very nice. This hotel has personality, in the rooms, the hallways, and all areas inside and out. Fascinating antiques throughout. The room was one of their bigger rooms. The only thing missing was information at check in about scones and tea from 3-4 pm. which would have been nice to know. Make sure to look for a room with a fridge and tv if that's important to you- this room has it! but the historic ones don't always have those. Menus in the rooms of some of their basic fare would have been nice to peruse at one's leisure.

My grandfather and I booked a room here with double beds for a single night on a road trip up the coast a few days ago. I woke up at 3am to the feeling of someone watching me. I turned my phone light on and looked around and no one was there. As I laid back down I felt the space beside my bed depress like someone was getting onto the bed. Then, it was like someone wrapped their arms around my body. I felt like I couldn't breath or move. When I finally mustered enough oxygen in my lungs, I leaped out of the bed with all I had in me and turned on the light. Again, nothing was there. Room #23. My grandfather and I drove the whole length of the Avenue of the Giants looking for a decent spot to say for the night - with the idea of exploring the Redwoods the next day. We decided the Humbolt was our best option after seeing that many of the residents of the town were living in the hotel rooms of the other motels in the area. There seems to be a large homeless population here. Also many forestry service trucks were parked in the lot, which seemed to indicate something positive if they were staying there. However we were so wrong about that. The other issues with the room were that it REEKED of cigarette smoke. We've been back on the road for 3 days and our clothes still have a twinge of that smell - even the clean items in our suit cases. The shower had no official nozzle, it's like one you'd see at Venice Beach and there was either cigarette ash or mold on the shower curtain. My grandfather also found pubic hair in the tub matt. The overall cleanliness of this place was insanely gross. The other patrons of the hotel were also loud, kept their hotel doors open and were pretty intimidating.

Let's be clear: the number of stars here isn't indicative of a four-star hotel. But overall it didn't disappoint. GREAT view and the sound of the waves crashing outside were high on my amenity list. The unit itself is pretty bare bones. Cheap but comfortable furniture. Kitchen has pretty much everything you'd need to cook. Bed is okay, maybe a little hard. Really hot showers, which was nice. Managers are super nice and 100% responsive to any needs. We got one night free bc of their spring special, which bumped it up a star for us. Would I recommend it? Yes. Would I HEARTILY recommend it? Probably not. But I have no complaints.

This place is walking distance from Gyppo the local favorite brewery. And also right on the lower Pacific Road which runs along the ocean. Close to Mal Combs Park. I absolutely recommend this place to anyone wanting the experience of sleeping right next to the ocean. You could hear the surf and waves all night long. It lulled me to sleep.

The oceanfront balcony connects to the next room (where my parents stayed hahaha) and we loved being able to stargaze at night and watch the sunrise in the mornings. One of the highlights - freshly baked scones and coffee delivered to our door each morning. I've never had a proper scone until this weekend.... they were perfectly crispy on the outside, flavorful and not too dense. Breakfast in the parlor was another treat - always beautifully prepared, delicious, and such a lovely way to start each day with family. We also appreciated how they had an EV charger, which saved us multiple trips into the next town (20-30 minutes away).
