Our family of four adults stayed in this lovely inn for three nights this summer. We all really liked our beautiful rooms. The beds were super comfy with a variety of pillows to choose from. Having a full kitchen was a bonus we all enjoyed having. When I walked in the door, I felt so comfortable and relaxed. The only downside (which I am not going to lower my rating for because I absolutely liked this place) was the annoying sound of logging trucks that began each morning at 5:00 a.m. It was especially loud because there was a stop sign almost directly in front of the inn where each gigantic truck had to noisily come to a halt. But no matter where you stay in Ferndale, you are going to hear the trucks. So just close your window at night and run a fan. The absolutely amazing upside was the fabulicious, complementary breakfast served at the Victorian Inn. I'd stay there just for the breakfast each morning. ;-) So, despite the early wake-up call, I would not hesitate to put "my cup of tea" stamp of approval on this quaint, comfortable inn. (P.S. An added bonus is getting up early and having the town virtually to yourself so you can take pictures before the other tourists show up and block the buildings with their cars.)

Looks underwhelming, but is very nice on the inside. Only con was water pressure in the shower. Almost none.

My two teens and I stayed on the first floor in Room 1. A double bed and a twin size bed were perfect for us. The room was clean especially the carpet. Bathroom was spotless. No small refrigerator was available to place our perishable snacks. Coffee and hot chocolate were offered in the attached store. The store closes at 8pm so plan accordingly. Parking was available right in front of our room. I'd suggest having a shoe tray by the front door. It was raining the day we checked in. My kids and I took shoes off to not drag mud in the room. Ferndale is a charming town and we enjoy our visit every time. The Inn made our stay enjoyable for a quick overnight stay.

On our last visit to Ferndale we booked a room at Francis Creek…read more The room was super cute and though the room heater took a bit to warm up, the little handheld heater they provided worked perfectly. And though the pipes squealed a bit, the shower was clean and the coverlet, sheets, blankets and towels smelled divine especially after being warmed up by the heater, whatever they washed it in was just wonderful. We paid five dollars extra to have a room with two beds (they were full up besides) and though there were only two of us the room could have slept 4 people or more with the roll away. There wasn't a fridge, which encouraged us to eat out. The Redfront convince store in front is also open until 9 (Late by Ferndale standards) so we could grab drinks or food if we needed, they also had utensils. Compared to hotels in the Bay Area, Francis Creek is a little low tech (one must actually call in to the hotel to make a reservation) however you actually reach a live person during business hours and can make a reservation on the spot. Which is more than I can say for some *cough* Ivanhoe *cough* which we discovered the hard way. We'll be staying here again on our next trip. It's a great little budget hotel.

Can I just live here?…read more Scotia Lodge went beyond our expectations by a mile, and then some. When we saw the price we thought, is this too good to be true? It's true! They have managed to blend the historic nature of this hotel with modern amenities perfectly (without feeling too boutique/hipster-y). Greeted with a free beverage upon arrival, we made our way to our room to find it clean and cozy, with ample outlets, reliable wifi, and a clawfoot tub. After four days on the road, a soak in that tub gave me life! There is a restaurant serving breakfast 8-12, dinner 5-9 (we got The Lumberjack waffle sandwich for breakfast. Not sure what I was expecting, but I wasn't expecting in-house recipe waffle mix stuffed to bursting with eggs, sausage and cheese. YUM!), and a bar downstairs that has very fair pricing. They also have soaking tubs for $25/hour with Epsom salts and other amenities (we didn't rent it but it sounds great). There is a local grocery store just across the street that has ready made hot/cold foods, beer and liquor, and anything else you may need. Located just north of the Humboldt Redwoods State Park, it's a perfect starting or ending point for your redwoods excursion. Every staff member we interacted with was kind, prompt, and informative. The grounds are beautiful, with a large picnic area to enjoy your morning cup at. This place gives Overlook Hotel vibes in the BEST way possible. Can't wait to come back! And to think we almost stayed at the Best Western for $10 cheaper... lol. Thank you, Scotia Lodge, I will be recommending you to anybody I know traveling through the area! Its obviously an old building and had a little creepy feel to it. No elevator so anyone with limitations would have issues with the stairs. Limited parking. The restaurant wasn't open during our stay. Not the highlight of our vacation.
