However, what is extraordinary and incredibly rare in our current "Rush Patient Culture" where so many doctors seemed to have stopped caring about the patients and only care about profits. Doctor Kimberly Nordin was so concerned about my eyesight, she had me come back in for not one, but two follow up scans and with those assessments made a referral to send me on to a specialist to help with my symptoms and preserve the sight in my dominant eye. I am someone with no name in this county. No wealth. Nor was I private pay. I am a man who came to her very scared and she and her staff were and have continued to be amazingly compassionate to me.

His son took care of me yesterday (6/6/2023) and I do have to say that he is good and kind but I do prefer how his dad worked. My right eye is my biggest problem and he wouldn't change the focus enough for me to really see clear. I tried to explain that my right eye loses focus and no matter the adjustment range he was using it just did not clarify it. He then came to the conclusion that both eyes has the same vision. They have never had the same vision and even with closing one eye and the other I could tell my right eye was not clear. He said my right eye will never see what my left sees. Well no probably not unless there is something stronger for my right! I like his pleasantness but honestly it seemed to me that maybe his fascination with eyes and making sure they are at their optimum best is not as acute as his dad's was. My old one loved eyes so much that he even told me he wished I could get LASIK surgery. At that time it was over $5000 because it was a new procedure and he knew I did not have that kind of money. He always said my eyes were too pretty to hide behind glasses, even when I was little. Also now they have this thing where they give you trial contacts for $50. When my old dr was in he gave me my permanent script not trial contacts. I just was not 100% satisfied with how they or his son does compared to how he and his group operated years ago. To be fair though his son IS in the bigger field of eye care where as he was just an optometrist.

Although his office was very far away from our town, my wife and I decided to schedule an appointment based on his reputation. The appointment was scheduled over a month into the future. When the day of the appointment came, our family made the 2 and 1/2 hour drive to his office. When we arrived and checked in, we were told that Dr. Hazelett was out of town and that our appointment had been moved forward another month. They claimed to have attempted to call us, but neither my wife or I had any received any calls/voicemails from the practice. They were aware of how far we had driven, yet they made no attempts to work us into the schedule or let us see a physician's assistant. We reluctantly climbed back into our car and drove another 2 and 1/2 hours home. My wife and I both work in the healthcare industry and this is one of the worst examples of poor service I have witnessed. Update: The practice mailed my family a gift card to compensate for the gas that we wasted on the trip.
