AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS - IT'S A COMPLETE SCAM! I went in with VSP insurance, which clearly states that my lenses should be fully covered except for a $15 copay. Instead, they hit me with a $300 bill, packed with bogus "lens upgrade" charges. Even worse, they doubled my copay to $30, claiming it was "$15 per lens" -- something I've never heard of with any provider. When I pushed back and asked for basic lenses only, they still insisted on charging me an extra $35, quietly changing the copay back to $15 like nothing happened. When I finally picked up the glasses, the lenses were absurdly thick and reflected indoor lighting so badly they were practically unusable. Isn't basic coverage supposed to at least provide functional glasses? To top it off, they forced me to buy both frames and lenses together, and falsely claimed that it was "VSP policy" -- which is a flat-out lie. This place is dishonest, manipulative, and clearly takes advantage of patients who don't know the fine print of their insurance. I went to this practice. There was no clearly designated parking, however against my will I parked in a garage where I would have to pay. Rushing to find the exact location I walk in the door exactly 9 minutes late for my appointment. After a snarky greeting and entering my name the guy tells me immediately that my appointment is canceled because I'm late. I asked if they had a grace period? He said yes 10 minutes. Now clearly I was there within the grace period. However he said they were booked and I would have to reschedule. Let me be clear, I was within the grace period but by the time he entered my name it was a moment over. Needless to say I will not go back. I could've or even would've rescheduled had just an ounce of empathy and respect had been shown me. There is a thing called customer service that is getting more difficult to find every day. Dr. Sonny Truong is one of the best optometrists I've had. Because of my eye condition and vision, I'm a more "complex" patient to manage, which is not suitable for most every day typical optometrists. So I'm glad I met Dr. Truong who is willing to work with me through multiple trial and errors and find the best fitted contact lens for me. He's very considerate of me having to travel interstate for 90 minutes (with no traffic) to see him each time. He's also very patient and willing to troubleshoot and challenge himself to find the best contact lenses for me. He would usually order the lenses for me and then have me try it, tweak it if necessary, and have to come back to try the new ones. I understand that I am more complicated so I am just glad that I found someone with enough patience and willingness to deal with me. His staff is also very knowledgable about what kinds of frame to use for my prescription. Because my glasses lens are super heavy and it always gives me too much pressure around my ears and nose when I wear them for too long, they recommended specific glasses frames to accommodate that. And it was a smart decision to trust their judgement because my glasses are more comfortable and I'm able to wear them longer during the day. They are all very friendly and answers their phone quickly. They're willing to work with you to meet your needs. There was an appointment where I had to go to jury duty and they allowed me to book 2 appointments in case I was called in for it. They also offer parking discount (1 hour free) at the parking garage next to them, which makes it very convenient. We had to pay $5 for going 5-10 minutes over the first hour. Just don't go here. I bought five pair of glasses, including lens replacements for my favorite pair of sunglasses. Two pair of glasses were broken in the first day--the quality is just not there, especially for the high price. The manager gave me a refund for the four new pair so I did not post a review at the time. I paid for, and kept my favorite sunglasses with my new prescription lens....happy until the tint started peeling off like DIY tint in car windows that bubbles up and peels off. Dr. Truong is an excellent eye doctor. He does good work, listens to your needs, and will provide options. Aquah provides really great service and will go the extra mile to help you with your insurance and scheduling. I highly recommend coming by for your eye exam. Ask Aquah to confirm your insurance is covered BEFORE buying or doing anything. She'll take care of you. Most of the sales people will up-sell you and make you feel guilty for not buying every single upgrade MyEyeDr offers. When it comes time to pay for things, be sure you go through every item and CLARIFY exactly what each is for. Here's an example of one of them trying to up-sell me and then making me feel guilty for not buying: "Polished lenses for $25? What is that for?" I asked. "Oh, they will polish the edges your lenses so it's nice and smooth," said the sales lady. "Do you mean my lenses won't arrive smooth and clear?" "No, it's the edges," she clarified. "You mean, the thin edges that are surrounded by my frames?" "Yeah," she confirmed. "No, I don't need that. My frames go around my lenses." "Okay fine, but you're gonna see the rough edges and it's not going to look as good..." That's an honest example of what I experienced. I did buy the anti-reflective coating for $170 of which my insurance only covered $50. That's the blue-light blocking layer which I always get and like the idea of. However, I didn't go with the thinner lenses because that cost an extra $150 of which my insurance covered none of. Very poor customer service. I scheduled an appointment ahead of time and they confirmed via phone call and email three times. Then, today, I left work early and went on an hour and half commute. They decided to tell me that I need to reschedule or sit and wait because they double booked my appointment. It was only an hour left to my appointment and the lady was rude saying that it's up to me to pick either one of the two inconsiderate options. My husband and I were overcharged by $150 at this location and its been over 6 months since our visit and numerous calls to the store and with our insurance but MyEyeDr. has failed to provide us with the refund for the amount they charged us wrong due to a 'glitch in their system'. Its quite sad that they give you such a run a round for they money 'they owe you' aka your own money. I will not be using their service again. Please compare your insurance claim and receipt and ensure everything you've paid on the receipt is actually everything you want on your glasses - they will give you a final cost with many add ons that you may not need and then some how also charge you extra. I had a pretty good experience here. I was able to get an appointment for the next week. I arrived a few minutes early and they took me right away. They did some eye tests, and took photos. They did however seem like they were trying to sell me the photos. They said it would be an extra $20 not covered by insurance, but that it was so necessary, ect. After a few minutes the Dr. came out, and he seemed knowledgeable and friendly. After the exam I realized I needed new lenses. But, I like my current frames so I wanted to keep them. The woman kept insisting I could get new ones for free so why don't I. I would've appreciated them not pressuring me. That said, i was in and out in less than a hour, so that was great. Horror story incoming: Went in 3 weeks ago for eye exam, turned in my new insurance all. Got fast-tracked straight to a technician and tech-in-training for my eye check, and they talked me into retinal photography. All fine and dandy- Talked to Dr. Truong who was pretty cool. Got my eyes checked out, everything was golden. Then, as I go out to pick out some frames for new glasses, some lady screams to my Salesman dude that I'm "Not covered- exam is full price." ....Okay.. Whatever, I have Vision insurance and The place showed as in-Network.. I'll sort it out through my insurance. Get tagged with the full price of the exam instead of my normal $20 copay. BS- I know. But we're just getting started. I pick out a rather expensive pair of Frames after trying on half the ones in the store and foot the bill- around $450.. So once I get home, I pull up all of my insurance stuff, and sure enough- I should've been covered... so I call back, get put on hold... and I wait... and I wait... and then I get hung up on... and then I get a call back, saying they were able to run my insurance, and I had to come back in for a partial refund of the difference. Another hour wasted- I get told my glasses should be in within the next week or so.... Well... it's been 3 weeks, so what do you think this is about? I call after the first week, and get told I was mistaken, that it'd be another 3 days. Okay, my mistake- I don't recall hearing the word "business days" but whatever- So, then I call back again and I get told a few more days. Okay.. I get delays, that's fine... So I call back last week and I get told yesterday... *sigh* So I call back this morning after having not been called to pick them up, and I get put on hold. And then I get told I'll be called back in 20 minutes... after an hour and a half I call back. And get told they haven't had a chance to follow up and would call me back in 15.... After another hour and I half I finally get a call back telling me that someone at the Lab broke my $300 frames, and that they'll order another pair that should be in on Friday. Avoid this place, they are disorganized and they don't care about customers. Go get your eyes checked, get your prescription and your pupillary distance and order your glasses online. I wasn't a fan before because every time I showed up, a different doctor saw me. however, about two years ago, I started consistently seeing one doctor - Dr. Truong. He is very nice and takes his time to explain things to me. He also takes care in reviewing the charges with his staff to make sure I was properly charged and my benefits were optimally utilized. Today I made an appointment with this office for 12 noon. When I got there to my surprise the office could not be found. The security at the building told me the office moved. No where during my 10 - 15 min. call with the intake person over the phone was this communicated to me. We are in the middle of a Pandemic. I left my home, took an Uber and headed to my appointment only to be told the office no longer exists. Terrible customer service. I didn't even get to the point of seeing the doctor here. Called to make an appointment and also to verify that they took my insurance. The lady that set up the appointment said in a very roundabout way that there are two prices ($245 or $145) and she doesn't know which one I will be charged. I was confused and I tried to clarify, but she was very short with me and kept cutting me off, yelling at me 'DO YOU FOLLOW???'. Then she told me to call my insurance, but I asked her to do so because she should know better what to ask about the two prices they have. She said she would do so and call me back the next day. She never did. The day before the appointment, someone else called 'to confirm the appointment'. I explained that I never got the call back. She looked up something and assured that I will get the lower price. On the day of the appointment, it snowed. Like the forecast had said all week. I thought the lack of a phone call meant that the appointment was on. Of course, when I showed up, the place was locked up without a soul in it. If snow means an off day to them, someone should take the numbers home to call, when the forecast is predicting snow. Two days later, someone calls me saying that they wanted to see if I wanted to reschedule. I told her that I actually showed up two days ago and the place was closed. She said 'Oh yeah, we were closed due to the weather.' No apology?? Thanks for wasting my time, I'm not going to reschedule my appointment. Never. read more

After reading the reviews, I was a little scared, but this location is the closest to my apartment and I recently purchased a Groupon deal for an eye exam and glasses. I was really excited Groupon offered this amazing deal, as I have never had prescription sunglasses before and always wanted them. I booked an appointment and got a reminder call the day before. This place is a little sketchy. Well, let me specify. My doctor, a female, was very nice and I felt the exam went just as it should have. The desk staff though, and the manager, made me feel uneasy. I got the impression that because I was price conscious, they didn't like me. I had never been to a doctor's office like this before-there were so many people and you do get the sense right away they're busier than they should be and you won't get the individual attention you would with a private practice. While waiting to see the doctor, someone offered to go ahead and get started looking at the frames. I told him I was looking for bug style. He led me over to a section that honestly, couldn't have been more opposite of bug. I even asked if these sunglasses were for men! This scared me-are they going to have what I'm looking for? Should I cancel right now and go to a different location? When the sales person was pulled in a different direction I continued to look around and -gasp- found the bug sunglasses! They had about four or five to chose from; while, black and brown frames. My husband liked the white the best. I was torn between the while pair and a black pair. I thought about it while I had my eye exam. Because I'm very sensitive, I paid the extra fee to opt for the Optomap retinal exam. No drops, just a picture. This method shows the doctor behind your eyes so they can look for any signs of problems. After the exam, I decide to go with the white frames, knowing the price, as is it indicated on a sticker. After I sit down with a salesperson, I start to realize the Groupon is not going to cover nearly the amount I thought it would. Obviously I knew the Optomap exam was additional, but the add on fees such as "lens tenting" was ridiculous. I mean, I'm buying sunglasses-of course they're going to be tented...shouldn't that be included? I really got the feeling I was paying too much. It felt like buying a car; when you know they're charging you up the ass and will do so unless you speak up. I gave my debit card but felt really awful after I left. The reason people go to places like My Eye Dr. and LensCrafters is to find less expensive options. I felt kinda ripped off. The next morning I called to cancel my order. I was given their customer service number, and Drew was very, very nice. She offered to help bring down the cost instead of canceling, which is what I really wanted. She offered me an alternative lens that was less expensive, and I changed to the black pair because there was over $100 difference. While working on the other end with the Ballston location, the manager wasn't as friendly. She first insisted these new glasses had a rounder frame and my vision wouldn't be as clear as they would with the original white frames. I told her it was a matter of cost, and I really had to change frames. "Well I'm letting you know so that if your vision is blurry it's not because of your prescription, it's your frames. And I'm going to note that in your file." It was a defensive tone, a c.y.a. tone. Write it in your file in big red letters, because this will be the only time I will purchase glasses from this location. She also said the glasses would still be ready on time (one week from the appointment.) I call a week after the original appointment to ask if the glasses are in. The manager says "No they are not ready yet, because there was a change in the order." I didn't argue with her. "I'll call you back in an hour." Never heard back from her. I call again the next day and they're ready. I pick them up, drama free. I love my glasses and I'm thrilled to finally own prescription sunglasses after wearing regular glasses since 4th grade. Like father, like son. When I was four years old, my eye doctor was the father, Dr. Irving Siegel, now retired. Now that I'm many times four years old, my eye doctor is the son, Dr. Frederick Siegel. He actually gets animated when he's flipping and clicking the vision slides, and as I'm saying, "better before, no, better now," he nails the 100th of a percent difference in my vision. To him it's better than a Wii. Dr. Siegel really wants the best for my vision and my eye health. He tells me to call and get free replacements as he'd rather that I change my contacts more, rather than less. He answers all my questions, even the ones that are urban legends (contacts that block UV rays - yes, but not the harmful ones), and takes every worry with the gravity that I feel. Dr. Siegel has that little-town-family-doctor-bedside-manner that is rarer than icecubes in a European drink. He makes me feel special. Almost like I'm a little kid and he's going to give me a lollipop. read more

I got my glasses and eye appointment from them a year ago. I did not go to them when I needed to get my annual eye exam but they still have been helpful. For example, my glasses broke and needed to be replaced. This happened friday and I would be leaving the country on tuesday. I needed to get new glasses (and lens because if you get new glasses, you have to get new frames to fit). I went to the place where I had my recent eye exam and they were unable to get me new glasses in time. They claimed they could have it sent to me but it would cost me. I decided to try My Eye Dr. and see if they had my old frames. When I got there, they told me they would have to order those frames. I explained my situation and they said they could get me a new pair of glasses and lenses by Monday morning as long as I had my prescription. I didn't havethe prescription on me so they made a deal with me. I chose the frames I wanted and I could fax them my prescription. I didn't have a lot of money to spend and they were able to work with me on that. They gave me a $240 glasses frame for $120 and a 30% discount on my new lenses. The total cost was $220 compared to the possible price of $496. They were very helpful, friendly and convenient. read more

I've always gone to a My Eye Dr., but moved so I went to a new location. Doctor Odil was great, but I've had a really bad experience with one of the staff members that work there. I specifically made the appointment to get an eye glass prescription so I could order new glasses online through Warby Parker. I put that on my per-registration forms as well as spoke with the doctor about it, and the women checking me out. When I was checking out, the women was very testy because I wasn't ordering the glasses through them. I had just spent $150 on my exam, plus an additional $100 on new contact lenses. She wrote down my prescription for me, I paid and left. Then when I went to order my glasses online, I found out they didn't take my PD, which you have to have for glasses. When I called to find out what it was, the same women who I had issues with, said oh, well we only do that if you order glasses through us and proceeded to lecture me on why I should have ordered my glasses through their office. Finally she said, well you can come in and I guess we'll measure it for you. After that warm welcome, I decided to swing by my local Target Optical and see if they could help me. The Target optical staff were very nice and happy to do so. Great, ordered my glasses. and lo and behold, when they arrived, they are the wrong prescription! Ugh. I called the doctors office again and was connected to the same women who was more than happy to point out if I had just ordered my glasses through them, I wouldn't have had this problem. And I said no, if you had just given me the eye glass prescription I had asked for, instead of a contact lens prescription, I wouldn't have had this problem. Unfortunately I was stuck going back in there to get re-measured to see if we can figure out the problem and so I didn't get charged by my insurance again. I did get re-measured, and the office manager was very nice, however, I was very annoyed when she told me they are a Warby Parker retailer and work with them all the time. Really?! Then why has it been such a pain to get my glasses? Be forewarned, they will try to up sell you on everything, and that one women is not very pleasant unless you are buying things through her. read more

Hm. I was surprised to see the poor reviews here, though I'm going to be cautiously optimistic and say that so far .... so good. I haven't purchased any contacts yet, so maybe that's when I'm going to be hurting. As far as pricing goes, I was very adamant about knowing all this beforehand. During my first visit I did feel like one of his support staff was trying to "rush" me into a deal, and I turned it down. I wanted new glasses lenses but not new frames, and I didn't want a YEAR's worth of contacts, which was all part of the package. However, I do feel like I'm getting my money's worth here. The woman who helped me learn to put in my contacts was patient with me and didn't mind that it took me about 80 tries to get them in or that tears were streaming down my face. Furthermore, since then, I've had some problems, as my eyes don't seem to be adjusting well to the contact lenses, and my follow-up appointment was free (or perhaps I should say included in my initial fitting cost.) By the time I got back in for the appointment my first trial pair had expired, so he gave me another one, plus lots of other stuff to try, and told me to try again only after my eyes felt better and to come back. I'm assuming this appointment will be included as well, though I'm not sure. It's a real pain that my eyes aren't cooperating, but I've appreciated that Dr. Siegel and his team are. Dr. Siegel has seen me more or less on time and is very friendly, though quick. He does a lot of talking, too, which I like but feel like some folks might not be able to get out all their thoughts if they aren't a little forward. At any rate, he is friendly and seems competent and has been energetic both times I've been in. I'll be back for another post if things change...! read more

Again, I have to agree with those who say the customer service is really awful at this branch. Chose glasses, discussed costs and paid bill months ago. Three months later I get a bill from them indicating a balance of $50. Have called now 3x and spoken with June each time. Each time she gets increasingly huffy and tells me that (choose 1): a) It's been resolved, b) I'm going to resolve it and call you back c) Our system is going through a problem and you shouldn't have received this bill. Needless to say, I've never gotten a call back despite the fact that I've asked her to do so. This last time she said, almost laughingly. "well it showed as fixed in our system so why would I call you back" (Maybe because we agreed that she would do so after the second time I received a bill). This last statement shows that if I don't pay this bill, they may send it to collections. My Eye Dr at Ballston has major problems that don't seem to be fixable. At their price point, customers have many other options available and might want to choose accordingly. read more

Last time I felt ripped off and this time I waited for an hour and 45 minutes to see the Doctor. To be completely fair, I scheduled my appointment the same day because it was an emergency. I feel as though no one should sit for that long. Mr. Eye Dr's service does not improve because I feel they have a monopoly on the Arlington area. With so many locations, I really don't have many other options other than Mr. Eye Dr. I don't think they care about customer service. I'm challenging them to respond to this post. They didn't respond to my last one. Like I said last time, I am giving them two stars because Dr. Siegal is the one and only bright spot. As reviewed previously my wife and I bought our glasses here just over a year ago. About 3-4 months ago the edges of my glasses started to bubble and a film that is on the inside started to peel away. It wasn't all that bad, just a slight inconvenience but it has become progressively worse and I've noticed that it's obvious now when I take pictures and such. When I mentioned something about needing new glasses my wife mentioned that her glasses are doing the same thing and she only wears hers while driving. I'm not sure if the person that made our glasses screwed something up and I'm pretty sure we didn't buy the cheap option as we paid a pretty penny but I do know that I've never had to replace a pair of glasses because of an issue like this before let alone after only a year of having them. read more

Summary: MyEyeDr has some really great perks in terms of service. Ask about their 90-day warranty!! The reviews are right - Dr. Siegel is amazing. Intially came here with a groupon and was really displeased with my eye exam and the glasses I received. I chose this particular office because I wanted to see Dr. Siegel. Unfortunately, I saw another Dr, thus beginning my terrible experience. As a first-timer I wasn't quite sure what to expect. For those of yall going in for the first time, I would highly recommend taking your time with the exam, and if you aren't comfortable with your perscription, let them know! The Doctor is competent and seems engaged and informed. They will try to upsell you on a billion things, which I don't appreciate. You need to walk in here knowing your insurance plan VERY well, and then tell them verbally that you DON'T want services beyond exactly what you are asking for: exam, glasses, and contact lenses, for instance. I've been here at least three times this summer for eye-health related reasons. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable, and the doctor was fantastic. Very little wait time if you have an appointment. I got new glasses which came sooner than they estimated. They gave me a deal for $99 glasses since I wasn't looking to spend much money. I was worried that I would feel forced to buy new sunglasses too, but when I brought in my current sunglasses, they said that I didn't need new ones. In terms of eye health, the doctor takes his time and wants to make sure all my questions and concerns are answered before I leave. He does extra research on my eye health even after I'm not in the office. He often hands out free samples so I don't have to go to CVS without trying the Rx first. He has worked miracles on my messed-up eye, and I am so happy that I found this place. I highly recommend it. read more

Nice people, easy to get an eye exam and they help you with your insurance. Shawn spent over an hour with me checking out glasses, I was alone so I had to find a real honest opinion! Huge pros: Eddie and the other office workers were enormous helps in picking out glasses, finding comparisons for contacts to get matching discounts, and trying to make my visit affordable. Cons: Even after all of that, it still wasn't particularly affordable. About $300 (after insurance) for contacts and glasses. I'm not suffering, as most Ballstonians, so I'll continue going here for its convenience and customer service. read more

The doctor here is very good, my husband likes them very much. Since I go to an ophthalmologist for my medical concerns all I needed was a vision check and new glasses. We've used this location before and I should have learned my lesson. They have a very limited selection of frames and they cannot, or will not, order frames to fit. My husband needs very big frames and he lucked out this time by finding frames that fit and looked good. No such luck for me. The frames are way too big, which I didn't really notice when I had them on for all of 5 minutes at the store. When I got them back with the lenses in, and they fell off my head, the person there bent them all out of shape to get them to fit, which of course they didn't really, the ear pieces were just bent in at the back so they dug into my head, which after a day so really hurt. After a few days of wearing them I managed to bend them back to something remotely resembling the original shape, and not digging into my head and of course they now fall off all the time but what am I going to do? Also, please check your receipt before leaving. We were charged for "eyeglass warranty". I have no idea what that is. That mistake is on me, I should have reviewed the receipt. Obviously a business is going to charge as much as they can and it is always 'buyer beware'. You will always be charged for "Crizal", I've never been sure what that is but it is expensive. Again, all my errors for not being more pro-active. I was also charged for "edge polish" - don't know what that is either. READ YOUR RECEIPT BEFORE YOU HAND OVER YOUR CREDIT CARD! My husband will probably continue to use this location because the doctor is very good but I will never get glasses there again. I've been burned twice, you think I would learn! read more
