They accepted my annual check-up appointment and were fully aware of my insurance provider and coverage. After having the exam, they informed me that it would NOT be covered by insurance because it was within a year of my prior exam (literally by one week). The problem was that their system pre-approved the appointment with my insurance company and got approval to perform the exam. While that is an insurance company issue, my frustration is that MyEyeDr was fully aware of the date of the prior exam and my coverage limitations. Further, staff acknowledged that the inappropriate pre-approval from insurance was known issue, having just experienced the same issue with a patient earlier this morning. SO, they were aware of the computer "glitch" (as they called it) but chose NOT to double check the coverage prior to performing the exam. As a result, they were able to charge me $140 for the exam. I will NEVER be using this franchise again. Happy to pay for services rendered, but I will NOT work with a dishonest company that fails to properly care for its customers and then treat them fairly when it is aware of "known glitches" that will result in unnecessary charges. read more

DO NOT GO HERE!!! I was told I would be getting a new frames within 2 weeks because they did not have the ones I wanted in stock. so I would have to wait 2 weeks for them. I picked frames that fit and inquired about polarized lenses. I wanted to think about the polorized as she said it was an additional cost. I put my order in that day and told them I would call and let them know if I wanted to add the polorized. The next day I decided to go ahead with the polorized and they were suppose to add it onto my order. I paid with my credit card over the phone for the polorized and again was told it was going to take 2 weeks. After 2 weeks I had to call them because I had not recieved any word back about my glasses being ready. They never even gave me a call and when I spoke to associate she said they were in. I was all excited to pick them up but they seemed a little bit loose and didn't fit as snug. I asked if I could see the floor sample I tried on before to compare. The associate kept saying "it's the same frame" I said I know it's the same but I wanted to compare anyway. Again they told me it was the same frame "It's the floor sample" THEN I was informed that what I was getting was actually the floor sample. So, I was upset b/c I had waited 2 weeks for a FLOOR SAMPLE. They were not upfront and told me that I was waiting the 2 weeks for the frames because they were on back order. I expected to recieve new one's after 2 weeks and down right lied to. Then they told me they could order me new one's which was going to take another 2 weeks. It was REDICULOUS! For your own sake save yourself the trouble of going to this place. read more

I went to the My Eye Dr. - Gainesville location for an eye exam update. It had been a few years and I was due. Exam was fine and the doctor was very nice, however it felt like they used high-pressure sales tactics to force me to purchase a more than two-year supply of contact lenses, afterward. I wasn't even given a choice - as soon as I sat down at the counter after the exam the salesman said "I've already put in your order". Not once did they say anything as basic as "this is your new prescription, how many boxes would you like to order?" And like a sucker I fell for it. I don't need years worth of lenses, I don't even know where I'll put them, let alone if my prescription changes during that period. We had a same bad experience as the others. I wish I could give them 0 star for the service. My husband was thinking of getting contact lenses for the first time. When he called to make appointment, he was informed that he only needs to pay his co-pay ($15) for his eye exam for contact lenses. When we were there, I also made another eye exam for myself because I had LASIK done few years ago and just wanted to check my eye sight. My husband was asked to also get the retina exam ( which was $20 and wasn't covered by our insurance). The associate told him that the retina exam will take picture of the back of his eyes to see if there's anything wrong. He agreed to it but didn't get any feed back or the doctor even mentioned anything about the result. When it came to check out time, the sale associate was calculating "his numbers" and came up with close to $400. We were shock with the number. As he explained, besides $35 that we were aware of, the cost of contact lenses fitting ( which he didn't know he had to pay to try on the contacts to see if they're the right fit. Plus, the sale associate tried to sale a whole year supply for my husband. When my husband told him that he's not sure if he wants contact lenses or stick with glasses because he didn't feel comfortable with the contact lenses he was wearing after trying,he will order later if he decides to wear contacts. The sale man kept pushing my husband to pay for everything and if my husband didn't want contact lenses, he can use the paid money to buy glasses. We weren't happy or comfortable with the way they try to lie and sell things like that. He asked to talk to the manager and after she kept saying about we had to pay the amount the salesman told us, she agree to take everything out except $35 that we agreed to pay. Now, my experience. I had appt a few days later. Because I didn't think I would buy anything, just wanted to know my eye sight doing. I filled out the application online and clearly said no to retina exam. When I came in, the associate didn't bother to tell me the extra cost of the retina and wanted to trick me into getting it done. Knowing ahead, I asked her if it costs extra and I don't want it done, she acted like she didn't know I have insurance. I told her when I made appt, the lady even fill out my insurance info since I made my appt right after my husband signed. She said because its Saturday, she can't call my insurance and I had to pay the full amount and can file to get the refund from my insurance. It. Was ok with it. When I came out, before checking me out, she turned and asked the doctor(quietly) something. She then told me I got discount because I came in on sat. She told me to pay $39. I asked her for the receipt so that I can file to my insurance, she told me b/c it's special rate, I can't claim w/ my insurance. I tried not to say anything nasty but it was totally scam on their side. Instead paying $35 for the eye plus retina exam through my insurance, I paid $39 for 1 thing. The money wasn't a lot but they weren't honest at all. I don't mind to pay more for good service but I got frustrated when people tried to trick me for just some extra bucks. I highly do NOT recommend. My husband was scheduled for an appt on Tuesday and I called to see if I could get in as well. I couldn't, which is fine, understandable. After that I mentioned that my husband only told them he needed glasses because he needs to buy glasses, but he needs a contact lens exam as well. Chantrell then said they can't book him a CL exam as well. Since I worked in optical I knew that this was ridiculous. The CL exam doesn't add much more time to the original exam itself. I asked to speak to a supervisor and she said it was their policy. That is ABSOLUTELY rediculous. Not only did they lose two patients, they lost a sale for glasses and a sale for both of us to have a year's supply of dailes total one contacts. The contacts alone would have been a $1400 sale. This place is the worst... Monday June 6, 2016 I went in to get some new glasses as I have seriously needed some transition lens glasses. I told the sales clerk that we would be moving Saturday and if they would be available on Friday June 10 for pick up she assured me that that would not be an issue and she would be sure that they would come in by then. On Friday afternoon I called to see if they were ready so that I could pick them up. The lady over the phone told me that they would not be ready until June 18 the following Saturday. I told her that I was assured that they would be ready. She told me that I could speak with a manager, after informing the manager of the situation he told me that he would be sure to have them done as quickly as possible and contact me when they were done and that he would overnight them to me. I received confirmation that they were ready via text message on Tuesday June 14, I called them to tell them where we were living so that they could overnight them. They sales clerk on the phone confirmed that they would be sent overnight. Today June 16 I have not received them so I called again to receive a tracking number. When I looked up the tracking number it says that it will not arrive until June 22. Needless to say I have become very annoyed with their lack of customer service as they have repeatedly lied to me. I am fine with things taking time but I would like to know that up front. Do not assure me that things can been done if indeed they cannot be accomplished. Had I known that it would be this long I would not have ordered them from them prior to leaving. I highly recommend looking elsewhere if you need glasses or contacts. They seem friendly but our dishonest. I regret doing business here. read more

My experience was mostly poor, beginning with when I first arrived at the office. The receptionists were very rude. I stood in line waiting to be checked in for a good 10 minutes and when I actually got to the front to confirm my appointment, the receptionist practically threw the clipboard at me with paperwork. Upon scanning the forms, I realized that I could have easily started filling this out had they not kept me waiting. She also spoke to my mother who was with me like she was an idiot and incompetent which was an immediate turn off. My name was called and I hurriedly handed back the clipboard by which the rude receptionist, giving me the dirtiest look, asked if I was finished. The prep assistant who tests your depth perception and measures your eye pressure was impatient and clearly does not enjoy her job. That experience was awkward and actually kind of tense, which is weird since I don't know her in any other capacity than a stranger. The actual doctor was fine. The small talk exchange felt very rehearsed and unauthentic but she was great at her job, asking if I had questions and moving swiftly through the exam. The "eyewear consultants" were friendly and nice. The person who assisted me was able to give me a pretty great discount which makes me believe that the frames and glasses are a totally arbitrary markup. Lastly, the office promised that my glasses could be picked up in 2 hours. False, turns out they didn't have the lenses. They said come the next day. No call. I went back the third day and they finally had the glasses done and of course were not too pleasant when I went to pick them up. Basically this office is filled with rude staff who clearly do not enjoy working with customers. Plus, their glasses are expensive. If you're having to go to an eye doctor, go somewhere else. NEVER GO HERE save your money The Dr. that does the exam and contact fitting was good, friendly and looked for ways to save money. The store itself is where you should just get your scrip and leave DO NOT buy glasses from these rip off artiest. They do not know what the word no means and will keep going on and on. There are multiple prices for the same pair of frames and will not give you a straight answer when you confront them on it. Finding a doctor is hard enough but now I will not go back into that store for anything. The company and the store itself do not care about ratings at all and I wish I had read the ones on here BEFORE I went and got the great run around from these people. Before moving back to the NOVA area I had used a My Eye Dr. and could not say enough great things, but now I cannot say enough bad things without it getting VERY ugly, rise above. Dr. is good but salespeople are like they are trying to sell you a car with an extended warranty. I asked for contact exam prescription and they gave me a prescription for glasses. They said I have to pay an additional $140 to get a print out for my contact lens exam. The place is a ripoff. You can get the same things cheaper at other stores. My family had been going here for years but the past couple of years the staff that helps pick out glasses and does the final billing is only about the bottom line. My daughter went in for an eye exam which went fine but when it came to getting new lenses in her current frames it was going to cost over $300 for JUST THE LENSES. She needed new lenses and contacts and the total was going to be over $500, this is ridiculous considering we have very good vision insurance. Also, they charged for both an eye exam and a contact exam which according to my insurance is not allowable. We ended up only getting contacts and will be going to a different place to get glasses, found a brand new pair for under $300 and they are designer frames from another local place. read more

It was my first time going there I had been recommended by a friend. My experience there was great, as soon as I walked in I was welcomed and helped. My eyes were looked at by Cindy and she did a great job with explaining everything broke everything down to my understanding. The doctor as well was great answered all my questions and concerns. Getting my glasses was a walk through the park i was shown everything they had and Angela did amazing telling me about different colors and options I had. Coming here was a great because they all cared they all gave me their opinion on my glasses I can't complain they have great staff very knowledgeable and friendly. Update as of May 22, 2012. The customer service rep I was able to talk to with the corporate offices of MyEyeDr was WONDERFUL!! He set me up with a new appointment at their Manassas location on Liberia Ave. He was appalled to hear how the Gainesville store operated. And, apparently, under new management to correct problems before. Hopefully their corporate offices will arrange CUSTOMER SERVICE TRAINING for their management at this location. And when I thought my original story couldn't get any worse...WRONG!! The manager at Gainesville is not only very poor at customer service she is a LIAR! First Lie: She had informed me that there was no such special that involved buying 1 pair of glasses and getting the 2nd for free and that my friends were essentially liars. Well, the first thing I noticed walking into the Manassas store was a huge sign that said BUY ONE COMPLETE PAIR OF EYEGLASSES AND GET THE SECOND ONE FOR FREE! I inquired as to how long that special had been in effect since it had been weeks after my friend's appointment and was told it was ongoing and had been in effect for months. Second Lie: The eye doctor at Gainesville had requested I come in for my eyes to be dilated at a later date. I called the store to move my appointment to a different location because of the treatment I had received there. The manager was put on the phone. When she hesitated about changing the appointment I asked if there was a charge for the procedure. She said there normally is a charge. So, after my eye exam in Manassas I asked the doctor if there was a reason to dilate my eyes. She informed me that the doctor at Gainesville had wanted to because a piece of equipment at their location that would have done a procedure that didn't require dilation was broken. So the manager was going to charge me for a procedure the eye doctor had to perform because of faulty equipment. My recommendation DO NOT GO TO THE GAINESVILLE LOCATION. DRIVE TO MANASSAS!! Unless, of course, they take measures to correct the management staff. Call and if Daphne is still working there DON'T GO!!!. read more

I read these negative reviews before coming to this place but it was the closest to my house, so I decided to give them a chance although I was very hesitant! After going in yesterday, I have nothing but good things to say about my experience and the entire staff at this Gainesville office!! Seriously, everyone was so kind and my appointment was quick and extremely helpful. I was pleasantly surprised that I even got my glasses that same day!! I highly recommend to give them a chance if you live in the Gainesville area or if you're looking for a new eye Doctor. I had an excellent experience visiting this location. I was able to walk right in, and they happened to have a cancelation and were able to get me right in to an eye exam. The optomologist (a female, I wish I could place her name, was absolutely wonderful!) and was so friendly and knowledgeable. Then Alex helped me pick out a sweet pair of blue and black Ray-Ban frames. Within a week, I received a text message that my glasses were available for pick up. All in all an awesome experience and I would recommend this location to anyone needing an eye exam and/or some new glasses. read more

I was kind of annoyed at that aspect especially since I have been a repeat customer of this location for a few years now. 2 weeks has past and I was promised new lenses for the scratched one I received on my brand new Oakley sunglasses. I get a call once a week to tell me there's a mistake and it will be expedited. Hmm still no call and no lense replacement for my defective one. What kind of operation is My Eye Dr running? I wish I would have used Hour Eyes. It's too bad they aren't around anymore. At least I never got the run around from Hour Eyes. This is the first time I have had this much trouble to get my glasses. Even Lens Crafters never gave me this much trouble. My Eye Dr in Gainesville VA should clean house and get new staff that care about their customers. From the looks of previous comments, this isn't the first time a customer was not satisfied after visiting the Gainesville VA location. Let's hope I get my new lenses soon and it's not another week or month till I get them. read more

Dr. Nicole Nguyen is very nice and knowledgeable. However, the receptionist gave an attitude when the appointment was somehow booked online under the parent name instead of the child name and she had to spent 2 minutes to change it. I ordered a year supply of daily contact lenses worth near $500 and was told that the trial box would come first to the office in 2 or 3 days and they will call us to come pick it up. After 5 days when the sample lenses were all used up and no one called. I called and they checked and said it should come by the end of the day. About an hour later I received email and text said it is ready to pick up. I sent my husband and my kid to come pick up and they came back with a small box of 5 lenses that would last 2 days and said that the office "FORGOT TO ORDER THE OTHER EYE". The office staff even said that since the prescription is not much different between the 2 eyes she can wear the left lense for the right eye! Horrible!!! If I were there I wouldn't come back with a box of 5 lenses for the left eye to wear on the right eye, I will come back with my money refund! They said that the real package I paid for nearly $500 will come in 2 or 3 days and it still hasn't come in 2 days. Probably they forgot to order the whole thing and just gave my daughter some samples they could find in the office. How can you tell the patient to wear the wrong prescription for the other eye? One more day and she will used up the 5 lenses and if the package hasn't come I will make a visit to get my money back!!! read more

Sorry I couldn't give it negative stars. Purchased glasses, they said it would be 2 weeks. Received a voicemail today, my frames had been damaged in the lab. So my first thought is, how chintzy are these glasses that their own professionals could damage them. These were not cheap frames. So they said they ordered a new pair of frames, but I would need to wait likely another week. Called them back, voiced my concern about flimsy frames. They assured me that a mere mortal like me would not have the strength to damage the frames. Whoa, now I am questioning what the heck they are doing to my frames prior to my getting them?? Have they already been through war games?? Woman on the other end sort of stuttered. So I said I wanted to cancel my order. She literally pushed the hold button on and off and said her manager said it was too late to cancel. But wait? There are no glasses at this point. So I told them I was going to flood social media with my story. So I am. Stay away from this place. They keep your money for weeks and don't deliver a product. We feel used and abused. We're new to glasses and contact lenses. We called the store to ask about the cost of contacts and what our VSP plan would cover. We got off the phone with the understanding that we'd have to pay for an eye exam and that our insurance should cover if not all, at least the bulk of the cost of the lenses. Not what happened. My husband went in, had a CONTACT LENSE exam (which we did not know was completely different and insanely expensive compared to an eye exam) and was handed a bill for close to $300 after our vision plan benefits. WHAT? He explained that their must be some confusion- he had called- someone had explained- he was dumbfounded that what was told to him over the phone was not at all what he was being charged for at the store and there was nothing he could do about it. Daphne told him that if he did not use his benefits that day, that our insurance would not give us the same coverage if we left and bought them somewhere else. We'd lose a significant portion of the coverage. He felt blindsided and helpless and out $300. Certainly not how I'd want my customers leaving my store. We will never use My Eye Dr in Gainesville at Atlas Walk ever again. These employees should be trained to be HONEST and up front about costs before performing services. read more

I have to say that I've been going here since early 2013, and after 2 visits I am still super-impressed... It looks like some of the other comments on here are negative but they are from years ago. It seems management sure has changed this store a lot. From the consultant who helped me (Will) to the manager who took care to make sure everything was running smoothly throughout the visit, really a world-class team you've got here. The reason I was not happy is because I took my son here to get his eyes checked because they said they accepted our insurance. We paid a $35 copay and were almost forced into buying glasses, had a hard time leaving the store without being pushed, however they were sooo pricey I was not willing to spend that on my sons first glasses. I did not want to go back and deal with the pushing so took my daughter somewhere else turns out we shouldn't have had to have paid a copay with the insurance we have!!! That was very upsetting to hear after a week earlier I was told here that I did have a copay!!! read more

I have been going to this location of MY EYE DR in Gainesville for about 4 years now. All 4 of my family members have been here, 3 of us wear glasses or contacts. My last 2 most recent experiences were with my son in February and myself earlier this month. My son was seen for regular vision checkup and to get contacts because he plays sports and to replace his lenses with the new prescription. The technician that worked with him was very patient while he worked to get his contacts in and out efficiently. Bravo! 3 months later my son scratched his glasses (dropped them on the gravel and they get ran over) but we purchased the warranty and voila---they replaced them (for free) and i picked them up the next day. For me earlier this month, my sales person for getting my glasses was Grace. Grace was wonderful and patient as she explained the difference of each option for what i needed in glasses. I bought a complete pair of sunglasses and had 2 other glasses that i recycled the frames and just had the lenses changed out. Great experience! read more

I called at noon to get an appointment for the coming week. They could see me the same day! I went in as a first time patient and was taken care of very quickly. All of the staff was very friendly and knowledgable. The eye doctor was friendly and very thorough. The general manager was great. He helped the sales rep pick out glasses for me! This place was wonderful to deal with, reasonably priced, and quick. They said my glasses would be ready the next day and my contacts would be in and ready for contacts class next week. I don't write reviews but after seeing so many negative ones for this location, I felt I should. I had absolutely no issues with my visit today. I've only been to the Reston location so it was my 1st time here. I was greeted nicely and after filling out paperwork, seen almost immediately. Every test was explained and I was informed of the additional cost of them photographing my eyes and how much it would cost after insurance before they proceeded. I waited maybe 5 minutes for the Doctor who was very friendly and nice. She asked questions & was very attentive. I spoke with one more person about an available rebate for my contacts & he offered new glasses or replacement lenses since my prescription had changed. Don't go here! Worst eye doctor store I have ever been to! I have been wearing glasses or contacts since I was in elementary school. So thats a lot of eye doctors. I've been 3 times trying to get the right fit of contacts. The first visit the Dr actually made me cry and I felt like I was an inconvience to her schedule. She also forced me in to to torric lenses when I specifically asked not to be in torric lenses. This cost me $100+ more than I expected. Second visit was awesome, the eye Dr actually listened to me and gave me a non-torric lens to try as well. Which worked so much better for me. But at the third visit where we officially decided to stay with the non-torric lenses when I asked about getting a refund back for the $100+ the front staff said that only the manager could handle that and he wasn't in on Sunday or Monday. I live over an hour away. It isn't easy for me to just come by on a weekday. On top of it all I was told on all 3 occasions that my contacts could be sent to my home however only today was I told there was a $6.99 fee. There seems to always be a catch to this place! The employees are much more interested in up-selling you on features that you don't need, won't help your vision, or didn't authorize than actually helping to improve your vision issues.
