This business is NOW practicing deceptive medical billing. A glaucoma test was normally done as part of my yearly eye test and if done during that visit is paid for by medicare and AETNA supplemental as PART OF MY annual benefit. Now they are MAKING YOU BOOK A SEPERATE APPT TO GET the glaucoma test separate from the annual vision appt and charging $80 for THAT xtra office visit/exam and $150 for the actual glaucoma test AND billing it AS diagnostics services. They are also selling prescription glasses as readers that they say you need. I bought a pair. Paid $98 for them and they are useless. They do not help my vision reading close up. I had eye appointments scheduled for my kids for spring break. They called to remind us of the appointments. Because I didn't confirm that yes, I do want to keep my appointments, they gave them away. I didn't get texts or emails because they didn't bother to get the information or check the box. I work nights so calling back is a bit difficult for me. I am torn with this place; doctors are good staff is friendly but had to wait nearly two months after the promise date to receive the glasses. They do not list their local number, you get connected to a call center who then calls the local office. I was on hold for an hour, spoke with someone who then called them. Was told they would call the next day with an update; no call. I had to drive to their office for an update 2 months later. I know these times are tough. I know offices are behind. It one call with an update would have been great. When I received my glasses they had sticky stuff on the frame & dirty lenses. You would think they could at least prep the glasses prior to hand off. I had to setup another appointment because now, my prescription may not be correct. The other VERY odd thing is they DO NOT provide you with the manufacturers case for the glasses! My wife's case nearly contorted her glasses, , they were expensive and a little research shows that those drones do indeed have a OEM case. Picked up my Nike frames today and recd myeyedoc branded case that my glasses barely fit in. I can't imagine Nike missing an opportunity to put a swish on something. To be clear, I am Not complaining abou t the cases not having a name brand, my concern is that it will bend or damage my glasses. Are they reselling these cases or what? Great Doctor with a terribly run office. I saw the doctor three weeks ago and can't get ahold of anyone at the office to get my contacts ordered. They told me someone would call to order me my contacts within a few days. Never called and I have been calling and sometimes the number just rings nobody answers in the middle of the day and they do not return voicemails. When I do reach someone they say don't know how the system works and can't tell if they are on the way or not. The last guy I spoke to said their system was down. Today the girl put me on hold and said she would find someone who knows what the codes in the system mean.I tried at least a dozen times but I guess I am going to have to drive over to find out what the status is. This was also a problem when I tried to schedule my appointment, but I was able to at least do that online. I tried 303-935-2020 and 303-991-9600 and nobody can help at either number. read more

RUN, DON'T WALK AWAY. FAR, FAR AWAY. Vision Care Specialists had been our family eye care practice for years. However, since being purchased by My Eye Doctor, we will NEVER go back. The knowledgeable, caring, competent, professional staff has been replaced with rude, low quality, condescending, incompetent, unprofessional employees. I went to the Lakewood office today to have my $1500 glasses adjusted, look at new frames, and book our annual five appointments, which translates to a SIGNIFICANT purchase. Upon entering, I was greeted by the "employee" that works with the glasses, ordering me back onto the doormat from about ten feet away. (I realize "optician" is her title, but her demeanor did not warrant the courtesy of that title.) After admonishing me for not having an appointment, she agreed to the grand gesture of adjusting my glasses. While waiting, I touched/tried on a couple of frames. Annoyed, she instructed me to give them back immediately to be sterilized. I wasn't even finished trying them on. When I lowered my mask to see how the frames looked, from a back room she directed me to leave my mask on. I was the ONLY person in the room! If the new business model is to exude an overarching attitude of condescension and superiority, they've nailed it. However, it is hard not to notice the decline in business. After patronizing this office for so many years, I have never seen the waiting room empty nor the phones quiet. Usually there are busy employees, multiple patients, phones ringing, doctors milling about, coffee brewing....Not anymore. The only employee behind the desk never acknowledged me, although I had mentioned appointments. She did, however, take a phone call being very curt and unprofessional with the caller. For a group of people with limited personal and professional skills, they are surprisingly arrogant. After this short twenty minute encounter, certain we would never set foot in this office again, I made a decision. I handled and tried on about twenty frames, leaving them on counters and desks. The doctor I saw was fantastic. The eye exam was thorough and friendly. The staff, overall, was friendly. The techs who handle the machines and pre-exam exam need a little brush-up on sanitizing. Ya don't ask or even let the patient press their eyes and face up to a machine where the wet alcohol from the wipes haven't completely dried yet! There are pretty simple ways to make sure they're dry. This is basic cleanliness protocol. The continuation of mask-wearing and spacing was good and noted. read more

Early this year, I noticed that my right eye had trouble seeing clearly even with prescribed contacts. The doctor I have been seeing outside of VCS was fully booked till February. So I made an appointment with VCS, and Dr. Newman helped me the next day. He told me that my right eye's astigmatism dramatically increased. I told him even with the new prescription he provided, my right eye was still blurry. He ignored my concern and sent me home with the new prescribed contacts to try out. In one or two weeks, I went back and voiced my concern about my right eye not being fully corrected. He increased the power of the contacts and told me that my right eye is a lazy eye that will never be fixed. He said my right eye will always be blurry. I believed him. So I was wearing those contacts he gave me until I went to see my old doctor for second opinion in February. My old doctor gave me a full exam and reviewed the prescription Dr. Newman provided. My astigmatism barely increased from last year. And I DO NOT have lazy eye. My old doctor provided me the prescription that I have had for the last 4 years. My right eye can clearly see without any blurriness. My doctor said the blurriness could be caused by some inflammation early January, and that had nothing to do with my old prescription. It scares me by thinking what could happen if I kept using the prescription Dr. Newman gave me. He could have seriously messed up my eyesight!!! I do think the staff from this location are very nice and friendly. But I do not recommend Dr. Newman. He told me my right had very high astigmatism, which is not true. I made my appointment last week and Axel was very helpful with setting up my appointment and informing me about what my insurance would cover. I came in the other day and filled out some paperwork pretty quickly and was taken in before my appointment time. Adam took me into 1 of the rooms and started all the preparation tests before seeing the doctor. Christine 1 of the ladies came in to finish off some of the tests, both of them were very courteous and pleasant. After they had finish all the pre-exam testing, Dr. Guo came in. He's young, hip, energetic, talks really fast like a million words per minute, but you know he is really passionate about his job. I did the retinal exam and he was telling me all this information about my eye that I had no clue about, but it was great to be informed about. Overall, I had a great visit here. I got a good deal on my contacts, the service was excellent and the Dr. Guo was very cool and informative. Already have recommended my brother to come here! read more

I don't really go to eye doctors. In fact, this was the second time in my entire life that I've ever been, so I may not be the best judge. However, any doctor who says to me that, "Your eyes are as perfect as perfect can get," and, "I don't think you'll really have any eye issues at all until you're about 45, so you may want to come back in 15 years," gets two thumbs up in my book. Vision Care is a nice little office, and they appear to do a strong eyeglass business in addition to the medical stuff. The waiting room is nice (and I wasn't in it for that long!), the staff were really friendly (and seemed to take particularly good care of all those octogenarians surrounding me - which is nice). I ended up waiting for the doctor in the exam room for quite a while, but he came in very apologetic, and told me that the delay was caused by a severe infection in his previous patient. In order to make up for the delay, or, more likely, just because he's a nice guy, since I was paying out of pocket he gave me a discounted rate and saved me almost 30%. If I were an eye doctor type guy, I would definitely make Vision Care Specialists my doctors of choice. read more

I have been going to eye doctor's since I was 10 years old, and I have never been as disappointed as I was when I went to Vision Care Specialists. First and foremost, I would like to say that Dr. Guo was amazing and quite nice. Beside that, I had very awful experiences. Yes, multiple. I had a 1:30 Saturday appointment. I was asked to come in fifteen minutes early to fill out paperwork, so I came in at 1, because I hate to be late. I understand that doctor's take their time with patients, but the wait was excruciating. I've had better wait times at America's Best. Then, the person helping me with my glasses was overly pushy. He didn't really give me a choice in choosing my glasses; and when I pushed to see ones that I wanted, he let me put them on, pulled them off my face, and told me that they didn't look good. Isn't that an opinion I should make? I wanted some very specific Ray-Ban frames, and all the other doctor's I've had before had offered to order my frames for me, but this guy decided which frames I was going to get and started inputting everything. He didn't ask me what kind of lenses I wanted or any additions I wanted. He just input everything as he saw fit. The entire time, I felt pressured and rushed. I understand that it was already 3:30 and they closed at 2:30, but I had been there since 1; so it isn't like I didn't understand. I just came in for an adjustment today, and I waited for forty minutes to get one of the nose pieces adjusted. I had to rush out of there before really being able to see if they fit well because I volunteer at a homeless shelter, and I was late (I don't generally expect an adjustment to take forty minutes after all). Then, when I came back in after volunteering, they told me that it would be a VERY long break before I could get another two second adjustment. There's absolutely no way to make an appointment for an adjustment which doesn't work since I work full time and go to school full time. I just feel highly disrespected, and it is clear that their claim that customer service is of utmost importance is not true. read more

She was just talked down to and laughed at by two employees, Christina and another lovely individual, for requesting the refund that she had been PROMISED by the MANAGER. She was then accused of being responsible for the faulty product, the entire time the employees having a snotty, sarcastic tone. These two employees then told her that she was being ridiculous. I've been a patient of VCS for about 13 years and have seen Dr. Petrilla for approximately the last 10 years. She is incredible, to put it simply. She has gone above and beyond for me on more than one occasion and always makes me feel comfortable, welcome, and special. On my last visit, I picked out a new pair of glasses with an optician by the name of Fred. He was extremely helpful, kind, concerned, and just an all-around good guy. I told him I've got a major surgery coming up in the fall, that will require several days in the hospital. When he learned this, he showed genuine care and concern and even gave me his card with the promise of coming to the hospital to make adjustments on my glasses, if need be. Overall, I love this office and have since day one. Highly recommend them! read more

When my family's eye doctor retired last year he referred us to Vision Care Specialists. We went in and the whole family got eye exams then we ordered contacts and eyeglasses. We spent $2200, over $800 of that was for eyeglasses for my teenage son. We got everything else, but after one year, 11 visits and numerous phone calls my son still didn't get his eyeglasses (he had them for less than two weeks, the lens fell out of the frame and scratched, we brought it in under warranty, after numerous failed tries to get the eyeglasses right Lens Care Specialists lost track of them). My family spent thousands there in good faith and when something went wrong on their end, over and over and over again, they never apologized, they never acknowledged any fault and they implied that I am a liar, that my son is a liar. They must have a sound proof room there where they can shout at people and verbally abuse them on the phone. When I insisted on talking to someone higher up the chain of command they gave me the number of some gal named Carol. I called Carol. She was not a manager, just some gal who works at another LCS branch. She didn't know why I was calling her, but she listened to my entire story and told me it sounded like a nightmare. I felt better after talking to her but unfortunately the Lakewood branch doesn't have anyone of Carol's caliber. Finally I get an offer from the manager: they would recreate my son's missing eyeglasses with his OLD prescription. I countered, saying that the prescription was expired and that my son has an eye disease that causes his eyesight to change often, so how about I pay for eye exams for the whole family again and they recreate the missing eyeglasses in his new prescription? I was told no, they would not do that in order to keep my business. So my family has decided to never give another dime of business to Lens Care Specialists. My husband has convinced me to stop trying to find a resolution with them because it is not good for my health to get so angry and frustrated. My family can afford to be robbed of $800, it stinks but we were able to go somewhere else and buy a backup pair of glasses for my son. I am pretty certain that my family is not the only family that has lost money at this place. I shudder to imagine that somewhere there is a child who never received the eyewear their parents paid for and now their parents are furious and frustrated and too broke to provide their child with eyewear. read more

I DO NOT recommend! I have let my friends know that Dr Petrillia is a wonderful provider. Unfortunately the office staff does not reflect her care once I leave the exam. This is the second time I have had issues with receiving my glasses/contacts after payment was made and waiting more than a month with no updates. First time I ordered and paid for my rx glasses and after waiting longer than the estimated time frame I contacted the office to receive an update. They told me to wait longer. More than a month at this point I called to receive an update and was told again to wait longer. After I pressed I asked them to take a deeper look into what was taking so long and they notified me they lost my frames. Good thing I asked! There is not a system in place to check on their end, if so they are not using it. This time I was told my contacts would come in 3-4 weeks. At the four week point stopped by and was told 4-6 weeks. Called at the six week point and was told would receive a call that day as they could see they would be delivered. I asked when they were ordered and they said two weeks ago. Mind you I have waited six weeks. I never received a call that they were in and it has been two days. Dr Petrillia is a wonderful provider but her office staff needs some work taking care their end of the bargain and treating patients. It is hard for me to write this review as I have been on the other end but I do not think the office staff should be responsible for taking care of patients and would feel bad if I knew others went here and received the same treatment. read more

This eatablishment is top notch! Everyone I encountered was extremely friendly and full of knowledge! It was a real joy being seen by Dr. Witters even if he is a Buckeye (Go Gators!!). Very knowledgeable and very personable. The gentleman that did my initial test before seeing the doctor was fantastic!! Extremely kind seemed to really enjoy his job and being around people. Lastly, I have to mention Fred! He was great! Made me feel very comfortable and didn't try to push a bunch of nonsense on me that I didn't need. They truly have a great team here! However, I don't really value "nice" with my eyes - I value service and care. She referred me for LASIK a few years ago and everything has been great. My son has worn glasses his entire life and now, at 17 y/o he has decided to try contacts. Ordered his trial pair (to make sure all was well with him and contacts), received trial pair 5 weeks after initial order and told 4-5 weeks was normal for these contacts because they are special ordered from overseas. Okay, I have no frame of reference so this seems feasible. Fast forward one week and the kiddo drops and loses one contact. Oops!! Call and ask that we place the "real" order for his year supply because everything seemed okay for the week he wore them. Ordered on August 3rd....now September 19 and just received a phone call that we should see them by the end of the week! Anyone that can count will see that this week takes us 2-3 weeks past the 4-5 week range! This is not my main concern with this office and the reason for the one star! My reasoning is the complete lack of knowledge that the staff has! My husband and I have both called several times and I have personally gone to the office to check on this order and we have been told several different stories as to what the hold up is. I feel that they tell people what they want to hear in the moment with no real knowledge of the situation and expect people to be okay with that. In my last conversation with a staff member I was told we would receive them on the 20th, which is tomorrow and he has just called to tell me they are shipping today from Florida and we will see them by EOW! Why did you tell me the 20th when we spoke last week? Excuses!! I will receive these contacts and when it is time for my family of 6 to have vision exams and new contacts and glasses next year we will not be returning to VCS!
