The prescription they gave me was so incorrect I had to visit another optometrist to correct their wrong prescription and I would like to be reimbursed for their mistake!! Good service, nice staff, and optometrist. Only issue I had was with the pricing. Never before have I had a pair of glasses that was nearly a grand in total. I know my eyes are bad, but I don't have bifocals or anything. Luckily I had the UnitedHealth Vision Plan as a government employee, otherwise I wouldn't have gotten them at all. Other issues I had were the types of frames made available here. Very limited number because of the small size of the shop and they were all hipster ugly frames that looked straight out of the 1950's. That may be great for some people who have no taste and think that's cool (or happen to be 70 years old), but for me I struggled to find 'normal' looking frames that didn't call overdue attention to my face. A good amount of the 'fashion' glasses looked like novelty children's glasses from Toys R Us. This style isn't the reflection of the store so much, but they could offer more professional looking eye wear that doesn't make you look like a metrosexual hipster douche. read more

Best eye exam / glasses purchasing experience ever. The entire staff seemed very knowledgeable and had a seemingly effective, streamlined procedure. I had pretty much no wait time although I arrived early. Dr. Ly seemed like she knew what she was doing which is always a reassuring plus (opposed to my last eye exam where I was left wondering if my prescription was even correct). Afterwards, Thomas was very helpful and proactive in making sure I got everything I needed when it came to lenses and frames. He was patient as I tried on probably a million frames and was always upbeat! Great service and very much appreciated. I finally found a place I can rely on. Thanks for being awesome! read more

Best experience ever here! Dr. Mathis is great, very patient and takes the time to explain what is going on with your vision/eyes. I suspect I have had astigmatism for awhile now, since my vision has always been a little "off" for the past few years, but my previous optometrist was too focused on efficiency and productivity to take the time to find out what was wrong. I had never worn contacts for astigmatism before so it took a couple of trials and follow up check up appointments, but Dr. Mathis was very willing to help me find what was most comfortable and the correct prescription. I also have a lot of dryness, which I finally learned was due to the fact that I sleep with my eyes slightly open - again, something Dr. Mathis took the time to explain to me, and recommend eye drops as well. The staff is also great, amazing customer service. Everyone is very patient and never makes you feel rushed, takes the time to answer all questions. I came in there asking for someone to look up my insurance and provide me with information regarding my coverage. I wanted to know my specific "allowance." I came on my lunch break and the lady stated, "the system was not working." She copied my insurance card and told me someone would call me. Unfortunately, 4-5 hours had gone by, so I came back upset asking for the copies she made as I did not want my information just sitting on the desk for everyone to see. Of course, I was provided with an excuse, "So and so contacted someone and there waiting to hear back, just a bunch of B.S." Here is my thing if "so and so" was waiting to hear, why as a customer, how come I was not contacted with updates instead of having be wait for 4-5 hours. Of course, I received another excuse that "so and so" is busy. Miss girl when I walked in there in the morning it was not busy and when I came in the afternoon it was not busy. Your business had enough staff to be working. It seems as though everyone in there need a serious staff training on how to accommodate customers and the individual who hires staff should not hire an individual with a face tattoo. Tattoos are fine but hiring someone with a tattoo their face! Come on now. Thank God for masks. P.S. When it comes to customers insurance information don't have it in the open for everyone to see, especially when there is insurance fraud going on. read more

This place is a joke. I originally decided to come out here to see if I was able to get a trial pair of contacts which I really only needed to go workout in, since my pair of glasses was annoying when I sweat. They told me I had to get an examination 1st before they would give me any trial pairs and I told them, fine I would set up an appointment, since it was overdue, but it had to be for the next day. When I went home, I told my wife I made an appointment with the Olney location and she told me that is where she went for her eye exam. I thought that was a good sign, so I decided to still make the appointment. I thought going through insurance was going to be easy and inexpensive and it turned out just being the opposite and I ended up spending 3 times what I thought I was going to spend. They told me I was going to get my contacts shipped directly to me in 2-5 days and 2 weeks later, finally got the word that my year supply was ready for pick up at the store, but that it wasn't the entire order nor the location of where it should have been delivered to ! Now, after 3 weeks, my other part of my order supposedly came and the store told me that I could pick them up or they can ship them to me on Monday directly to my house. On Monday!?! That's more time waiting! That means that i will almost be a month to finally fullfill my order of contacts. Wow! For something that was told to me to take 2-5 days and and get shipped directly to my house and spending over $800 (with insurance) is ridiculous. I should have stuck with going to my usual For Eyes company. Maybe then, I would have saved me some time and money. I can't believe a local Olney company could really provide this kind of service. I typically love all my Olney stores because they tend to keep it more personable and keep their word and service is usually better. If I was able to not give any stars, I would for this visit. I won't go back to them anymore and I hope that you don't get the same service I was given. read more

These incompetents were unable to do a simple eye exam and make a pair of glasses with progressive lenses. The glasses were unwearable causing blurred vision and headaches and presented a real danger when driving. I took them back and they re-did them with the same result. I am still wearing my old glasses, even though they are getting pretty scratched up because the prescription is fairly accurate. What optometry school did these idiots not graduate from? Now they send me marketing emails for $300 glasses and have recently started robo calling me. I would give them zero stars if I could as they are incompetent and aggressive about email and phone spamming. read more

Update- I went back to store to ask for the quote of the entire list of what I wanted in detail. The salesman could not be friendlier. He did everything right in terms of customer satisfaction. My glasses quote ended up to a grand total of $369-without insurance, (291.20 with). I did end up looking around so I ended up going to Costco. They quoted me $82 for the lenses and $18 fee for bringing out of store frames; for the exact lenses that I wanted- WITHOUT INSURANCE. Conclusion- Myeyedr has extremely competitive frame prices. The scam is in the lenses and vision screening. read more

I don't often take the time to review business but, in this case, I hope to deter anyone and everyone from going to this store. Last year I went for my eye exam and contact lens fitting. It took several rounds of prescriptions and lens types to get the "right" one. When it was all said and done, vision in my left eye was still not quite right and the doctor responded with "Well, this is as good as its gonna get". Additionally, the doctor wrote the wrong Rx down and the staff gave me a completely wrong sample pair of contacts which proceeded to give me a horrible headache while at work. After convincing them that I didn't "just need time to get used to them", as they told me, they finally called a store closer to my work so I could pick up the right pair. Unfortunately, I had used up my vision insurance on this appointment and could not spend the money to pay for another appointment for another doctor. So I went ahead and got my glasses and contacts and was told I could re-order my contacts any time before the prescription expired. So, just this week, I tried to re-order my contacts through an online service so I wouldn't have to deal with the store. The online service attempted to verify with the store once and the store claimed they never got a fax. The online service then re-sent the fax so I called the store to verify and the response was "The doctor will give you 6 mo worth....we'll fax it over" My response was "ok, that's fine, thank uou" to which I received a muffled "yea" and dial tone. I realize in the world of bad customer service, this is probably not a ground breaking event - however, anyone who has glasses, and in particular contacts, understands the stressfulness of getting the Rx right (when you're insurance won't pay for more than one exam every 2 years, or doesn't pay at all) and the high costs for glasses and contacts. A "doctor" such as this - that doesn't take the time with you to ensure the Rx is correct and has rude, impatient staff - should not be allowed to practice under the guise of being a medical professional. read more

These negative reviews had me a bit worried. But I had a great experience at MyEyeDr. When you first go in they have a receptionist take your insurance information. After that you see a salesman to assist you with picking out glasses. When I went in around noon on a Friday I did not have to wait very long at all to see the salesman. All of the staff were very friendly and assisted in picking out a pair of glasses that I would really like. They said that they would be ready in a week and a half but they were ready within a week so I was pretty happy with that turn around. read more

Went to Lenscrafters on the Pike who do a much better eye exam. Decided to give this business another chance and now another bad experience. Been waiting over a week past the original promised delivery date of my eyewear. I have contacted my flex spending account and they are emailing me the forms for fraud. read more

This is my second post. My initial review, below, was stuck in their filter. I feel that customers out there who may be considering going to MyEyeDr have a right to see this post, since it is an accurate description of what happened to us. Originally posted January 6, 2012: My mother purchased a Groupon for MyEyeDr., and after this experience we will never purchase another Groupon without carefully looking at reviews for the company. The service we received at MyEyeDr. in Olney was appalling, and the lack of knowledge and professionalism should be an embarrassment to them. Initially, my mother was looking to purchase a pair of glasses, and the sales associate there was helping her choose between two pairs. Once my mother had decided, she goes to pick them up and they are in fact the wrong frames that were ready. She goes back to MyEyeDr., and the previous pair that she had selected was gone. She had to choose another frame that was similar, and placed the order again. I went with her for the pick-up after we found out they were already at the store. They did not call her to let her know they were ready- she just realized that it had been a while, and thought she should call- and of course, they were there at the store. When she picked them up, the manager presented them to her, she tried them on, and he asked if she liked them. She did, so we left the store. My sister who was in town for the holidays who used to work for an eyeglasses company, noted now the nose pads were pinching my mother's skin and leaving deep indentations. They were also not on her face straight- this was obvious to my sister (not so much to me, I do not wear glasses). My mother stated that yes, the nose pads did pinch her and they were not comfortable. Apparently the staff at the store should have made an adjustment when they presented her with the glasses- and my sister was surprised that no one did so. We all stop by MyEyeDr. on our way to D.C., and think that it will be a relatively quick stop. We walk in, and end up staying there for 40 minutes. The sales associate who initially helped my mother took the glasses, and tried to adjust the pads with the special pliers they use. Each time, she took them to the back office (rather than adjust them in front of us). Repeatedly, she would disappear for 5 minutes, come back, and ask how they fit. They were still crooked, and sitting on my mother's nose at an angle, as opposed to sitting flat. My sister pointed this out, the sales associate agreed, and would take them to the back again. The associate grew agitated and told us "That's just how they are. You can't make them any better." My sister said they just needed to lie flat, the way her glasses do. The sales associate fumbled with the glasses, and said "it's because she has no bridge to her nose. There's no bridge. NO BRIDGE." and drew the nose pads so close together that they were literally perched high up on the nose bridge, and looked ridiculous. We pointed this out, and she said "That is how they are. Let me get the manager to explain that to you" in a defensive and aggressive tone. At this point we were behind schedule for our trip to D.C., we were embarrassed, and felt terrible. My mother whispered to me that she just wanted to leave the place. We showed the manager how the nose pads were not positioned correctly, he apparently agreed, and made an adjustment that did not correct anything. My mother smiled politely and we left. Needless to say we were shocked, and this put a damper on our day. Why the sales associate and the manager took 40 minutes to adjust nose pads- something that would take a normal person 10 seconds to do- is a mystery. Why they got defensive and assertive when we were just asking for it to fit properly was terrible. The manager did not try to help us, but had a condescending attitude and clearly trying to get us out of there as soon as possible. It was a horrible experience and I would like others to know that if you want to have a comfortable pair of glasses, this is not the place that will work with you to get them. read more

We scheduled an appointment for our daughter on a Tuesday night. She was coming from College Park for appointment hit traffic and realized she was going to be late for her 5:15 appointment. She called the office to let them know that she was going to be about 5-10 minutes late. They told her she had to reschedule - no ifs ands or buts. When I went to this same office several weeks before, I wasn't taken back at my appointment time, I was taken back 15 minutes or so later. read more

Great staff and very educational too! Helped my whole family understand btw different kind of glasses, prescriptions, and benefits of having polarized glasses or not. Over all very satisfied. My mom, husband , and I all had appointments and were in and out quick! We all came out of there with new glasses and even a pair of sun glasses. The Dr. Was great and very educational. Did more than asked. Even advised that my husband go to a specialist bc she was worried about something. Maybe not a big deal but big enough for her to have peace of mind. I have been a My Eye Doctor customer for many years, as have my husband and son. We are happy with their professionalism and their customer service. For example, they are always willing to repair broken glasses at no charge, even those repairs which take some time to complete. They stand behind their product. Today, I brought in frames which had broken. The glasses were not very old. Ed and Erine provided me with new frames from a display at no charge and a friendly smile. Went there to get my exam and glasses. Dr. Was ok.... the first sales guy was decent. I went to pick up today and ALETHIA helped me. Super sweet and efficient, asked all the right questions and made sure I was happy. She found me a second pair of glasses on the first try and in 2 minutes flat. I think I found my new frame stylist. Constantly overcharging and messing up orders/insurance claims. Never call back when they say they will. Refuse to give you a full refund for a pair of glasses I was not happy with. Ordered my progressive lenses for my glasses when I needed single and then refused to admit that they were progressive lenses. I would give this place 0 stars if I could. read more

The optometrist there is actually very good and worked hard to make sure I had the right prescription. I had some problems with the contacts he originally gave me so he had me come back (for free) to try out several other brands. Unfortunately, the rest of the visit went downhill. The people in the front either 1) intentionally charge as much as possible, or 2) have no idea how to read an insurance policy. At the end of my visit I ended up paying hundreds of dollars for the eye exam and lenses (I already owned frames)... WITH INSURANCE. I told them I thought my exam should be covered but the guy swore up and down that insurance does not cover eye exams and contact exams so I was charged for one of them. I went home and read through my policy and then went back the next day to show that indeed it did cover both exams. They eventually did refund me some of the money. In short, the optometrist is very good but the other stuff they sell is expensive and they don't seem to handle insurance well. If you go there, MAKE SURE YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT YOUR INSURANCE COVERS or else they will likely overcharge you. read more

She obviously hadn't listened to my intake. The woman at the desk demanded a drivers licence when I handed her a twenty dollar check. Just left and at first wasn't thrilled. They called offering an earlier appointment since they had cancellations, great! Filled out all my paperwork online ahead of time checked in, everyone was very friendly and helpful. But then I waited...40 mins to see the DR. I mentioned something about the time and the DR called me in right away. Super friendly and helpful doctor. Did not pressure me about declining the retinal scan which I anticipated he would. Suggested it but not pressured to do it this year. In and out, gave me daily contacts which he suggested and they feel fantastic. Went to pay and they again apologized for the wait and took some $ off for the inconvenience. As I was leaving a manager again sincerely apologized for the wait. 4 stars only because of the wait but they went above and beyond to make it right. read more

I went to My Eye Dr in Olney because I thought it would be cheaper than my other doctor and so that I may be able to get contacts and glasses on this visit. All they tried to do was sell me something here. They were trying to sell me contacts that were $80/box!!!! I normally pay about $25 and at the other place I go to I get a 6 month supply for free!! They also lied at one point and told me the contacts I typically get were discontinued. They corrected that lie though. They also told me that I needed to try out the contacts and come back for a follow-up appointment which I absolutely did not have time for. And the contacts they gave me were way too big for my eyes and the prescription was way too strong. The doctor originally increased my contact prescription from a 4.0 to a 4.75. After I told her I was dizzy she ended up bringing it back down to a 4.0. Which also tells me that they have no clue what they were doing. When I was going over prices, there were about 4 employees discussing lunch. Ernie, the man who was working with me, decided to get a burrito from California Tortilla in case anyone was wondering. I wasn't, but whatever. I was thoroughly upset with all of this and when I complained to someone, she reminded me that I didn't have to get my contacts there. So, I went back to get a refund for the contacts. When I returned, my chart was sitting out in the customer area (with my SSN written in there) and no actual workers around. There was a customer there though. I got a refund on my contacts and with my vision insurance, my appointment cost me nearly $50!!!! That's about forty dollars more than I usually pay. And of course, I didn't get glasses either. Overall, they overcharged me, appear to have no clue what they are doing, are EXTREMELY unprofessional, and do not maintain customer confidentiality. I would recommend getting an eye exam from Frankenstein before going to My Eye Dr. in Olney. read more

This was not my first time visiting a My Eye Dr location. Knowing how busy they normally are I was surprised when I called Monday and got an appointment for Wednesday :).. I walked in and was attended fast, in the back in minutes with the greatest Assistant ever. Miguel was great:) very patient , attentive and knowledgable . I had my last exam completed at My EyeDr in Olney, MD in 2012. Dr. Loan Dorsam was wonderful! She was very caring and did not rush me during the eye exam. I found Dr. Dorsam very unique in that she actually took the time to listen to what I had to say. I also had to return on a few occassions because I was a difficult fit for my contact lenses. I have been wearing glases for over 30 years and I have not found anyone who really took the time and attention that Dr. Dorsam did. When I tried to make another appointment with Dr. Dorsam I was sad to find that she is no longer there but is working at Revoluion Eyes in Ellicot City, MD. I have been to MyEyeDr in Olney a couple of times this year for different members of my family. both times I go the same doctor, who is great, super nice and makes the whole process so easy. that's the good part. my rating comes from 2 factors: New staff is so disrespectful and rude. Pricing is ridiculous. when I asked to have my prescription so I can go somewhere else to shop around, i got discounts left and right. my lenses went from over $400 to $200. Still I won't go back. The people behind the counter are in general very rude and have a horrible attitude. I never felt welcomed. I felt like I was an inconvenience they had to deal with. And one of these appointments was for a 7 year old kid. read more

So disappointed! I recently broke my prescription sunglasses. When I took them into MyEyeDr in Olney, I was told they could not be repaired. I was told that I would have to order new frames for $350 (the amount I paid 3 years ago for them). Just to be clear, the right temple (the long arm on the side of the frame that wraps around your right ear) had broken off. It seemed to me that a new hinge and some screws should fix it, and guess what, Frame Mender in Rockville agreed! For $70, I got my glasses fixed. I don't understand why MyEyeDoc couldn't fix my prescription sunglasses. read more
