Horrible! Sorry this will be long...Over 3 months and my glasses were still not right. They messed up everything. Here is some of what happened. The first Dr wrote the wrong rx (which I was blamed for because the Gen mgr Byron who told me they write it based on what I told them I saw. Last time I checked, I was not a Dr) 2nd Dr wrote a new rx, then they scratched my new lenses and did not tell me, to taking 2-4 weeks each time to get new lenses which I still could not see correctly out of because they are bifocals and they didn't measure them correctly, to not being able to adjust them and then when I called corporate and told them what was happening they were at first appalled. After they promised my new lenses would be in again, and were not there and no one let me know, they told me it would be another 10 days. I spoke with corporate and told them I want a refund and to have my insurance reversed. They said the store manager has to make that decision... WHAT? Finally, they said they would credit me in full but I needed to give them the glasses back first... Nope, I advised them to credit me, reverse the insurance first and once I confirm it I will bring the glasses back. The girl after 3 calls to me because she kept forgetting to get all the information said they would do that. I advised them that since it is Saturday to give me until Tuesday to return the glasses. I then made a courtesy call to them (Regina in Corp who was nice on the the first call) to let them know that I checked my bank and the credit had not applied yet, so it may be a few days after Tuesday for me to get the confirmation and then I would return the glasses to the store and I just wanted to let them know. She had the nerve to tell me that this was not their policy and they gave me the credit before as a courtesy!!! I asked her if it was their policy to put me through all the things listed above and not to go there with me. My credit hit my account today and the final thing that they couldn't even get right was when I returned the glasses to the store today I told them I wanted a receipt for the glasses so the girl said the manager had to do it. Byron comes up to the desk, doesn't say one word to me, types something prints and signs it and then he hands it to me. I walk away and turn back around because he couldn't even get the date right! He wrote that I returned them November 23rd and today is October 23rd. What a joke this place is, save your time and money and go somewhere else. read more

I went to My Eye Dr for the first time and I will come back again. They had great service and staff. Dr Mathis was patient and thorough. The eye-wear consultant Ricky was awesome with finding me what I wanted within my budget. Only problem was the price and style of glasses - if they had a wider variety of glasses with different prices that would 5 stars. read more

I wish I would have come here before making an appointment. I agree with Lindsay, avoid this store! I called on a Wednesday to make an appointment for the following Monday. I was called Friday evening to confirm my Monday appointment. Great. Well I called monday morning to ask if I could come in a little earlier than my afternoon appointment and nobody could find my appointment in the computer. But they told me to come in later that day anyhow. Great...right? worng...when I arrived the receptionist took my insurance card, called to cofirm coverage and got it all wrong from there on out. She claimed my insurance plan entitled me to only the $30 co-pay for an exam but that there were no benefits for lenses, frames, etc. When I questioned this because I've been with the plan for a long time, she all of the sudden claimed to see that my plan covered on 40% of frames ..no lenses...no yes, no, she wasn't sure. At this point, I respectfully told her to forget it and went to another eye shop. read more

Went there with my son a couple of winters ago. They talked me out of using my vision insurance, which is NUTS, but I had money left in my FSA, which made it less disastrous than it could have been. Less than a year later, I called for my son's prescription to use at 1-800-Contacts, and they refused to release it to me, told me that I had to make another appointment (even though MD is a 2-year prescription state). I pointed that out and they again refused to release it. I had to sic 1-800-contacts on them to get the prescription released, which they did. Awful experience. Funny, they just called tonight to make a new appointment for my son...yeah, no thanks. read more

Doctor was good, and friendly. Separate rating I would give him 5 stars. The rest of the staff need more training. I was told my trial contacts for my left eye were in and my right eye was on back order (special astigmatism lens). So I picked up the trial contacts for left eye (10 day supply) and tested which of the two I liked best. I called to let them know which I preferred. The person on the phone said they were for both eyes and that is why they gave me two prescriptions. I know this can't be true because my right eye has an astigmatism. Thinking they know better than me, I said ok let me try again. Wrong, I couldn't even see out of the lens with my right eye. I went into the office this time so I could explain in person the lenses were for the left eye only and I wanted to order my year supply. They said ok but since they thought the lenses were for both eyes they never ordered my right special order eye lens. Okay 10 days later I get a message that my lens are in. I go to pick them up and they hand me a baggie with two lens in them, (the baggie said lost pair). What? Where is my yearly supply. They were getting ready to close and said they would call me Monday. Well, I had to call them again and they said my yearly left eye lenses would only come when my right eye lenses were ready. That's not true. I don't even know what to say at this point. Its been over 40 days and I still don't have my lenses. I am wearing a daily lens over and over since I have now run out of trial lenses. NOT COOL. I will never go back to this location, it's like talking to a brick wall. I seem to know more about my prescription then they do. I spent over a thousand dollars, glasses plus yearly contacts. I just want my lenses :-( So that is why I am giving them one star. Happy most folks had a good experience. Me not so well. read more

I went to My Eye Dr after purchasing the living social deal that the company had offered several months ago. My initial visit was okay - I had to wait about 20 minutes past my scheduled appointment to see the doctor, and there were more people in the waiting room than there was available seating. I say that this was "okay" because my subsequent visits were awful. After telling me that I had an astigmatism and that I needed special contact lenses, the doctor, Christina Generie, fitted me with a pair. Afterwards, I was asked to go back into the waiting area because of the conveyor belt of an operation she had going on. I tried to tell the very nice person whose table I was sitting at that the contacts weren't the right prescription, but he told me that toric lenses were different and my eyes needed to adjust to them. Obviously. I tried again to tell him that my eyes couldn't adjust to a general feeling of blindness and that I wasn't given the right prescription........10 minutes later the doctor gave me another exam, after reiterating what her colleague had told me. Turns out I was right, and she changed the prescription. I came back a week later, telling her that I did not like the lenses, as there were objects that were blurred in my peripheral vision (which I noticed especially while driving) that ought not to be. She told me that because I was in between two prescription strengths for normal contacts, she was going to give me the higher strength. I had been wearing the lower strength for 7 years, now. I noted the prescription strength on the back of the foil containers, as I had with the toric lenses, just to make sure. The difference was immediate and fantastic. I wore those lenses for about 2 weeks, and I called to pick up my prescription and two other sets of lenses. After I had picked them up, I noticed that my prescription was for the old strength I had been wearing previously. I went back to the office, annoyed, and told the secretary. She pulled my chart and informed me that Generie had written my old strength and verified it. There was nothing she could do. She called me later that night to tell me that she had spoken with Generie and Generie denied 95% of what happened during my second fitting. She only acknowledged changing the strength on the toric lenses, which had happened during a different visit. I suppose when you have more people in your waiting room than you can handle, you're apt to forget your clients. I am incredibly disappointed in the service and manner in which Generie served me. She was unprofessional and wasted my time over and over again. Now, I have to go to a different doctor, paying full price after I spent my money at My Eye Dr, to correct her mistake. Maybe that doctor will tell me that I can go back to my original script, but I do not trust Generie based on the fact that she contradicted herself and will not admit it. read more

My boyfriend and I went there for an online promotion for contact lens exam with 3 months worth of contacts free. When we made the appointment, they lady on the phone mentioned that if he needed a special brand then it would be more then the $99 the promotion was for I asked how much more she said not much. When we went in for the visit, the doctor did the exam and told him to take the prescription up to the front where they would order the contacts. The girl a the front told us it was $150 for the exam and the contacts he needed were not part of the promotion so he would have to pay $250.00 for the contacts!!!!! Believe me I made a big deal about it! Why didn't the doctor or anyone mention that the exam the were doing on him would be $150 and not $99.. that's more than (not much)! and the contacts?? no one even mentioned that there are some kinds of contacts that wouldn't be part of the promotion!! Since he needed them we ordered them anyways. When the trial pair came in he couldn't see with them, they took another exam which I made sure it wouldn't be more money and when he came back out they said ok, we are going to try another type of lens but it will be $100 more because this type is better!!!!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME! Since I wasn't there to fight with them my boyfriend paid for it. After that all the contact came in and we decided not to go back after we got the 6month supply. I asked for a copy of his prescription and left. Few months later my boyfriend told me that those contacts kept ripping and that he wanted to go get checked at another place. We went to For Eyes off of Georgia Ave (great place btw!) when i handed them the prescription the doctor looked at me and said this prescription is impossible, this brand doesn't come in this prescription!!!!!! You better believe I was MOOOORE than pissed! I went down to My Eye Dr. and asked to speak to the manager he wasn't there and the girls at the front were confused as to why the doctor would sign the prescription when it was not the correct one!!!!! NEVER GO TO THIS PLACE!!! They refused to give me our money back for writing the wrong prescription and for making us waste our time and money!! WORST PLACE EVER.. i recommend the For Eyes in Aspen Hill much better doctor and service. read more

Great staff!! Great place to go get your eye exam. There was hardly any wait, while I was waiting they actually helped me pick my glasses. I didn't feel pressured to buy anything. The benefits and features of every lens was explained thoroughly to me. The staff seemed very knowledgeable about the products. The Indian guy who put the order in was amazing (I'm sorry I forgot your name). The doctor seemed to care about me. I felt like I got a thorough eye exam. I bought the Living Social deal and ended up spending additional money but it was worth it. My glasses were made in less than hour and I love them. While on my last pair of contacts, I finally went in for an eye exam. Dr. Mathes was friendly and a great help in choosing the right contacts for me. (I'll admit I was once a contact sleeper.) He explained what I was putting my eyes through and introduced me to one a day contacts, a much better fit. On to the glasses, I lost track of how many pairs I tried on. Thomas asked me what I was looking for and helped me through the dozens of "no's" till I found my "yes," and I didn't make it easy. When I came in the next week to pick up my contacts and glasses Dr. Mathes and Thomas made sure everything was perfect. Thanks again!! read more

I needed to get my eyes checked as I knew my old prescription just wasn't cutting it and my mom recommended the My Eye Dr in Olney. I was planning on looking into it and then I found a great coupon deal for any My Eye Dr location in the DC area. I went to this one after work one day, didn't even phone ahead to make an appointment and I was able to schedule one for that afternoon and was seen almost right away. The staff and Dr. were great, and the appointment only took about 20 minutes. As soon as I had my new prescription in hand the sales people attended to me and explained the terms of the coupon and suggested several nice pairs of glasses that would be fully covered by the coupon. I had Jay and he was great. I was just browsing and he gave me the time to just look by myself as well as suggesting a few frames for me. After selecting the frames I wanted (and it was a good 30 minutes of browsing) he was really helpful in explaining the different pricing options for the lenses and treatments. He told me my glasses would likely be ready the next day and helped me get a great deal on them. All the staff at My Eye Dr were kind, courteous and really helpful. I'd recommend them to anyone looking to start out in the area or looking to make a switch! read more

This location has improved over the years. The staff is very friendly and Dr. Mathes is great. when offered, their two for one specials on glasses are very helpful. The only issue is that despite promotions, they are pretty expensive. Sometimes trying to get the prescription so you can do price comparisons is a drawn out effort (i.e. the Dr. has to sign but isn't in, or is tied up with a another patient). It would be better if they prepared the prescription as you exit the exam and make that part of the whole process. I know they want yo to buy your glasses from them and this helps keep you in the store but sometimes it is bothersome. Overall, however, I would recommend to anyone who asks. read more

Outrageous price for glasses and contacts. OVER $500 for a pair of glasses: anti-reflective, transitions, bifocals. A person not trained enough to be an optician, Annette, in Havre de Grace, MD, was extremely aggressive and rude to me. "Sit down!" She yelled at me on the phone 3 years ago because of her mental issues. She charged me twice for contacts in addition to her rude behavior. I reported her rude and aggressive behavior to the office manager who didn't apologize for Annette's rudeness. I can't believe Annette hasn't been fired. Contacts were outrageous in price. I had 3 eye examinations and still I do not have the correct prescription. Did you know that by law, the agency is required to give us patients a copy of our prescriptions? I am going to ask for a refund of over $800 and I will take my business somewhere else. This place is for the very elite and rich (plus for patients who are willing to come in numerous times to get the right Rx). read more

I am along time customer and only want to come in and have my script renewed with out being scammed. I have bought well over 1000.00 for a pair of average glasses with insurance and I thought wow the price of glasses have gone up(first mistake)came back couple of weeks later to bring in my old glasses for a extra pair got car surly they will be cheaper 400.00! my old frames..not bifocals just simple script (second mistake) Came back to my trusty eye doc to pick up and not happy with the fit of the clip's and told we want you to be happy pick out two sun glasses and we will reimburse you for the clip and give you the 2 for 50 deal and replace your clip 200.00 for a new pair..so I go get the two pair and the owner says I will give you them for 160 with polar lens and script. (third mistake) When I went in ED said quickly no I am taking care of her do not worry about it...he did!! to the tune of 609.00!!! for the same pair oh and that included my 200.00 discount that brought it down to 309.00! I canceled the whole order~ Car salesman tactics used here! Beware of Wolf dressed in sheep clothing! I don't often take the time to review business but, in this case, I hope to warn anyone from going to this store. read more

***READ FULLY TO SEE WHY NOT TO GO HERE IF YOU VALUE YOUR EYES!!!*** NEVER had serious issues here until two years ago when I got my current frames! They said that in order to make the lenses fit properly in the frames due to my prescription (which is UTTER NONSENSE, as the first two times they handed me them the lenses fit in the frames perfectly and ALL I had asked them to do was adjust the frames as every time I bent over the fell right off!) they HAD TO make it so they did NOT fit in the frames properly since they were TOO small and I do NOT need any "specialty" lenses that would require much larger frames or anything like that! None the less the 3rd time they were brought to me the lenses were utterly useless and they said due to how they had to tighten them there was NOTHING they could do!!! I do NOT understand how asking for the bridge of a set of frames AND the earpieces (of plastic OR metal frames) in anyway makes it IMPOSSIBLE to cut lenses that properly fit in the frames without them sticking out AT LEAST a 1/2 inch-1 inch and for one lens (the right one) to ALSO have opaque markings on the top like the ones you would see on drinking glasses, but instead of being finger marks they were due to a poor cut by the machine used to produce the item and as a result might also leave a more "uniformed scratch" that goes straight down from one end of the product to the other vs. one that would seem to go every which way it it were made when the product were cleaned by something other than a microfiber cloth or completely smooth dusting rag that would NOT scratch it regardless of how it were wiped down! I pointed this out to them and at least 5 of the people at the counter who were ALL getting tired of my adjustment issues (some shouting, one nearly cursed and so on) and they said that I PUT THEM THERE AND YET THEY KNEW WHEN THEY WERE TAKEN OUT THEY WERE THERE!!! Hell, to even show them how impossible it was (and yes I put them on by picking them up by the earpieces which is the PROPER manner and they said I HAD NOT and had scratched them when pushing them up my nose) I took my nails which had not been cut in a while and dragged one down my left lens which had NO defects (to their dismay of course) and NOTHING happened and then I pulled out my old fibrous cloth and spray and cleaned both lenses (of course nothing but a tiny increase in the scratch on the right AND the marks on the top did NOT fade a bit!), then to prove just how impossible it was I picked up a paper towel laying on the counter and nothing happened to the left one and the one on the right of these supposedly scratch proof lenses got about a 3rd bigger! Before my demo they said WE CANNOT TAKE THEM BACK AFTER A 3rd "FIX" OR YOUR INSURANCE WILL MAKE YOU PAY FULL PRICE FOR NEW LENSES AND COVER $0, AS THE ISSUE WAS YOUR FAULT AND NOW THAT THEY ARE IN YOUR HANDS, EVEN IF YOU HAVE NOT PAID FOR THEM YET! BS! However, the script was finally right and if I adjust my eye a little the scratch did NOT bother me MUCH! They claimed they were scratch resistant (chart said scratch proof) and if they were brand new resistants/lenses not treated with protective coating(s) or anything they'd show noticeable wear right after my demo!!! Had to go back 3 TIMES to try to get the doc to write up in the same "plain English" they use during the exam (your vision was 20/30, etc. and now we have to do "XYZ" to get it to 20/20)! She said (well practically screamed at me something along the lines of this due to her being annoyed at me coming back 3 time to ask her to do something SIMPLE and not just leaving her alone after being told she can NOT do the IMPOSSIBLE, yet very easy!) I cannot write a script (I had not asked for one), but simply what it was before and what it is now for each eye in the 20/20 speak, the way you asked me to as no such method exists NOR can I write it that way just for a self-use explanation as it's impossible! All she claimed to be able to give me was a paper with decimals/fractions that may be used to tell the machines how to make the lenses properly on it and said BEST I CAN DO MORON! Hell, I called their 1-888 customer complaints # and the guy REALLY tried to "sell me" into staying with them! He said, "I see your complaint here and to make up for the horrid service you had around May/June 2011 when I got these I can offer you free replacement lenses to fit in your old frames (my current insurance only covers up to $25 of new frames!) and I "assure you" that we have ALL NEW 100% competent staff at the front desk and ALL NEW 100% competent doctors!" He booked an appointment and said to promote the company for fixing this post something nice on our FB! THEY'VE LEFT ME WITH CHRONICH HEADACES, MIGRAINS AND ALL SORTS OF CRAP THAT SHOULD NOT HAPPEN IF THEY DID THEIR JOBS!!! I WOULD NEVER DO ANYTHING FOR THEM IF THEY OFFERED ME A TRILLION BUCKS AND FREE EYECARE/EYEWARE/LENSES/ETC. FOREVER!!! TYPICAL 90 MINUTE VISIT WAS 3+ HOURS OF HELL!!! read more

Bad service, over priced, rude employees and a terrible doctor. I never write reviews for bad service because normally I understand where the service person is coming from working in retail myself. However, the treatment I received at My Eye Doctor in Olney was inexcusable. I went to get my exam and new glasses. The doctor completely rushed through the exam and then literally pushed my out the door and handed my off to Ed (the biggest jerk in the store!). I wanted to try on some blue frames because I had seen how blue made my eyes really bright. I was met with nothing but mean spirited jokes and criticism about my decision. "Honey, really only green and brown frames would make your eyes pop," or "what are you trying to go for the nerdy look, you don't want to be a nerd do you." Actually, jerk, I am a nerd so back off. He was very condescending the whole time and I felt very rushed into picking out a pair. My brother was there with me to get new glasses as well and guess what color old Ed picked out for him. That's right, blue metal frames. Made his eyes look real nice. The entire time they were working together there was lots of "her her her women, aren't they dumb" jokes coming from Ed's end. Completely offensive. The next day, I felt like I was really rushed into picking a pair of glasses that I wasn't wholly satisfied with. I called the store to put the order on hold and all I received on their end was a very curt fine. I went to get pick up my prescription to go somewhere else and I waited around an hour for the doctor to sign a piece of paper. The entire time I was waiting, Mr. Ed kept trying to get my to change my mind or look at other frames in the store. In the end, I got my prescription and went to Pearle Vision in Rockville and would highly recommend anyone thinking of going to My Eye Doctor to go to them instead. I was treated like a real person, I was not rushed and my frames ended up being $25 dollars cheaper there. Do not go to My Eye Doctor, unless you like being made fun of to your face and over charged. read more

I felt like I was at a car dealership. Hustled through, no conversation about the (high) costs until the very end, then handed over to a girl, who I equate to the people who used to push undercoating & extended warranties at the car dealerships, to try and up-sell me on products and services. They were unwilling to give be pricing of exam before the exam. Once the exam was complete, I found out the four charges just for the exam totaling $392. They said that I had good insurance. They lied that I could get either contacts or glasses, but when I called insurance that wasn't true, they would cover both under a certain amount. I called for Brenda twice, and was told she would call back, needless to say she never called back. My recommendation is to say you don't have insurance and pay the fee, because they give you coupons, and then have the insurance refund you. I will have a lot more out of pocket, than any place I have ever gone where I was able to get glasses, contact and exam under $400. I would not recommend them if you are concerned about the price. Not recommend ! The issue I had was the price they charge. I called and ask how much they charge for contact eye exam and the gentleman told me that they have promotion going on only $99. Then I make the appointment for my son. After the doctor done the exam, the staff asked my son does he need to order contact lenses . My son said not yet . Finally, my son had to paid $174 only for the exam and he asked the staff why is not $99 and he said because his eyes were bad is not qualify for $99. After my son told me that he paid $174 and I called them and ask why the lady who answer the phone told me the same because he is not qualify. She will ask the manager to call me back and off course the manager never call me back. I know some place will charge extra if my son need the special contact lenses. But not $174... I remembered Hours Eyes only charged $105 for my son last exam about a year ago. Really, I won't go back there again and will not recommend this place to anyone. read more

This is my first Yelp review but I just had to get on the computer and do it. I went in to My eye dr. very skeptical from previous experiences at chain eye glass places, but to my delight the day before christmas eve at 6:00pm the staff was more cheerful and helpful than ever. The insurance card I had expired a while back and instead of just saying "oh well" Tina went above and beyond to look up my new insurance and got me the best rate she could within my pricing without even having to ask for it. Dr. Kevin was also super helpful and cheerful. I just felt like they had my best interests and health in mind. To my surprise, because I had mentioned that I was driving a far distance the next day they were willing to try and get my lens and frames done in only an hour. Thanks for an awesome experience! Especially for someone who hates going to the doctor due to the wait. I definitely will be going back. read more
