What a lovely sweet find along 10 Ave! Was in the area for medical travel and found this burger spot across from MEC. The ranch burger and milkshake would of been more than enough for me (as that was a very hefty burger!) but also tried their smash browns (big potato chunks crisped up and super delicious enough to take home the remainder). I really liked the layout and lighting in the restaurant but as an added bonus, there is also a patio out back (I think you still need to go inside to order at the counter though) and free 3 hr parking for those eating there. I didn't realize about the parking until after I was done my appointment (that would of saved me from struggling with paying for parking on an old iphone that doesn't like indigo QR links...). So now I know for next trip to Calgary this is the spot to stop. Also, just an extra nod to the the two working (I believe they both were owners). Super friendly, will chat or leave you to enjoy your meal and really went the extra step with bringing out the good hot sauce and ketchup even before the meal was ready. read more

Arrived in Calgary late on a Wednesday night and wanted to get something close to the hotel so ordered take out right before they closed. My wife had an Italian panini (4-stars) and I had the brunch burger (5-stars). A huge order of fries came with the burger and we shared them but still couldn't finish them all. Holy Grill was featured on TV and I had this place bookmarked since 2017. I didn't get a chance to try this place until recently. Their prices are reasonable and their portion is huge. But I think you have to be either a sandwich, wrap or panini person to really love the food here. Don't get me wrong. I am not saying I don't like it. I just prefer something warm and hearty. Everything is made fresh in house. This place doesn't have much service. You order your food up front and they will bring it to your table. Everything else is self serve. The restaurant is somewhat small. They do have 2 other locations and this locations is their first. I will come back to try their burger. They have burgers special after 4 pm till closing. Change of ownership I think. The portions seem to be getting progressively smaller unfortunately. I get the chicken wrap w/ bacon & tomato very good. Service is a bit confusing. They give you a vibrating disk to let you know that your food is ready but they serve you when it vibrates. The place is nice and bright, high ceilings and lots of tables. I really like their Eggs Benny. I went here years ago when they were at their best and was featured on You Gotta Eat Here. Their Egg Bennys and hash browns were fantastic. 5 stars for a fast and high quality breakfast that was close to our hotel in downtown Calgary! We were looking for breakfast sandwiches and outdoor seating and Holy Grill checked off all boxes. A little more on the fast casual side, you can order up at the grill and then your food gets delivered to the table. On a Friday morning there was plenty of available seating outside. We caught the tail end of breakfast - at 11 am the grill menu switches over from breakfast to lunch! I ordered a bacon egg and cheese on an english muffin and it was perfect, simple and delicious. I also threw in a side of home fries which came with frizzled onions and parm cheese - interesting way to serve them but delicious nonetheless. The breakfast paninis looked tasty but way too big for breakfast, I'm glad that I stuck with a sandwich. Best breakfast sandwich hands down in Calgary. We tried Bacon Avocado crisp and it was so good with the homemade bun. Enough flavour and ingredients in it such as avocado, sprouts, their sauce, tomato, bacon and egg. Service was efficient. We will be back very soon. read more

Wow this chicken burger was delicious. They have gluten free bread that is very soft and yummy. The service was wonderful. The only reason I give this 4 stars is that the garlic Parmesan fries were far too garlicky. Still good but I was tasting garlic for hours afterwards. Sadly I was disappointed - I got there at noon and they stop serving breakfast at 11...disappointment #1 Add that to the fact that the ordering process is somewhat strange (you have to order the food yourself and then go pick it up yourself, get your own cutlery and water, which if the food was phenomenal, I wouldn't mind so much...let the foreshadowing begin) So I thought ok, since this is a grill let me try the burger - loaded burger, with fried egg and bacon replaced with avocado and fries replaced with smashbrowns - it was nice of them to accommodate me but...the burger, it wasn't bad, but it wasn't delicious either - a normal average burger (disappointment #2). If I could give negative stars I would. When I learned that management/owners collect all the tips and pay out employees once a month that made me suspicious. Hearing that a server who had worked 20 shifts was given $200.00 for the month made me completely lose my appetite for this business. Got the Super Burger, Ranch Burger and Mr. Chicken Panini (all with Parm fries and on separate occasions). Each dish had a generous helping of meat. Each came with a pickle and pepper on it. Delicious and juicy meals all made fresh to order (and quickly!). You have to try the fries with Parm on them! One of the best fries I've had from a restaurant. The bacon is cooked to perfection. Not too crispy, not too soft. The service is great and the owners are kind and helpful. Decor is inviting. It's clean with great artwork on the walls. It may look small on the outside but it is fairly spacious on the inside. The windows are large with allows plenty of natural light. It's a small, local business so it's important to support them! My wife and I were talking about finding a really great breakfast place, but just couldn't come up with that incredibly special place that does everything right up there where the clouds meet the zenith... Not unlike super grad schools, sometimes I wish Canada could serve up something approximating what is common in the USA... But for the city and the country this grill has a good breaky. Ordered the classic benny and blackened chicken burger with bacon strip side, all of which was not at all outstanding (3.25 stars) ... The blackened quality of the chicken breast was missing, something I simply don't get! Why call unblackened meat blackened? As I used to blacken snapper at home in a cast-iron frying pan, easy to distinguish the colour of 'blackened' meat and the flavours of a charred blended-spice rub! The bennys were well laid-on, but the 'smash browns' were just slightly squished spuds with little taste. The bacon strips were tasty, but almost cold. Not okay! And the tap water was pretty standard. So far, this breaky is more or less similar to the competition (mostly all 3.5 stars!), but nothing much to crow about. Service was average, but most of the time the staff stayed behind the high counter pleasantly chatting with one another. Other than politely delivering the meals, no one interacted with patrons. A fairly large outdoor patio backs onto the paid parking lot where one can redeem 2 free hours of parking if need be. Just cannot get excited, again, but the aftertaste spoke of a pretty decent pair of meals. Would sure like to frequent some of those real diners in the States: as standard practice, they know how to lay on a spread that's seldom short on quality and quantity with a price that's generally much lower than up here. I don't get most restaurants in Canada. Maybe that border translates into more than meets the eye! read more

Mmm, mmm, mmm! Holy Grill is a great lunch place with delicious food and wonderful service. I'd always heard people talk about it and finally decided to head there myself. Sapna G. speaks no word of a lie. This place truly does have some of the nicest people I've ever encountered at a restaurant. It seems the employees are always trying to make everyone's experience as pleasurable as possible, and they really pull it off. It's nice to see a bunch of workers who don't hate their lives. The thing I loved most about the Holy Grill was the beet chips. I was a little hesitant to try them, since they look weird and purplish, but they turned out to be so scrumptious! I also love that most of their burgers come with two patties... that's right, TWO patties! I skeptically tried the "Gourmet Burger" when I went. I say skeptically because there was blue cheese and I've never been a fan... but I wanted the avocado so I went for it. I was surprised that, unlike other blue cheese meals, the taste wasn't too overpowering and actually gave it a nice taste. I'll be going back to Holy Grill to try some other food. I had such a difficult time making up my mind last time because everything seemed like it would be so delicious and really hit the spot. I would come back to this place in a heart beat. I don't like hasbrowns usually but I liked these ones so definitely make sure you try them! My eggs benedict was great, I gobbled it all up. Great food. I'm happy to have discovered this place and a little disappointed that I hadn't sooner. I have been to The Holy Grill twice in the past week, the first time for a take-out lunch and the second for a sit-in mid-afternoon "lunch". Both times the service has been quick and the food quite tasty! I have tried their Blackened Chicken Burger, New Californian Panini, Bacon Avocado Crisp, and their Yam Chips. Every meal was full of flavour and the presentation was great. So far the Bacon Avocado Crisp is my favourite but that might change as I foresee myself having many more lunches here. Not ONLY are the gentlemen that work there some of the NICEST guys around, but daaaammmmn, can they ever serve up a DELICIOUS meal! Portion size was just right, chicken done perfectly and very tender, bun was soft, and the pickle was the perfect finishing touch. The ambiance was earthy in a good way.
