I returned here for dinner with a vegan friend who had the vegan sushi bowl. She said that the flavors were really good. I had the pork cheeks which were super tender. We had respectively the ribs and steak. The steak was great, perfectly cooked and seasoned. The ribs were even better, but they were seasonal. As an appetizer we had the cauliflower and broccoli soup. To die for. Service was good enough for 5 stars but not necessarily exceptional. Great local spin to food. Highly recommend. read more

Nice enough place with good service. Went there for a work dinner with a large group ( more than 20 ) on a pre-ordered menu. They were very helpful and took great care of accounting for everybody's food demands and we had a plenty: vegetarian, vegan, pregnant and cannot eat raw, celiac, allergic to garlic, intolerant to bell peppers. They did not find it problematic and were very understanding. But with understanding comes compromise. The food was alright but not so impressive. A meal that you would not write about for posterity. But after all, for a work dinner where you need to make sure nobody feels left out, it was a great choice. The wine came "from the tap" and tasted accordingly ( not great ). This is, hands down, my favorite restaurant to visit when I travel to Leuven - it's the first and last meal I make sure I have in this wonderful city. Situated right around the corner from the Oude Market, you can find Mykene on one of the city's typical and incredibly charming little back streets. Every time I've gone, maybe a dozen or so now, I've always sat on the street so I can enjoy the scenery and people watch. Why do I come here so often, you ask? The view is nice, but, by far the reason I keep coming here (and, in fact, drooling about it now here in the States...) is for their stoofvles - which is a beef stew. Actually, the best beef stew you will ever have (even better than those I've had in Ireland). I fell in love with this dish at first bite: melt in your mouth tender beef bites covered in a creamy, eye-in-the-back-of-your-head rolling, sauce whose manna you simply must dip your frites in (also amazing). I cannot rave enough about how amazing the stoofvles is here - I think about it so often it's ridiculous. I later learned that the reason the sauce/gravy is so amazing because it's made with (duh) Belgian Trappist Beer. Please do yourself a favor and savor one of the most iconic Belgian dishes here that you'll have while in this wonderful country. read more

This is one of my favorite places in Leuven! The food is always amazing and it's admirable how inclusive they are. I'm a vegan and they have plenty of vegan, gluten-free, vegetarian and even raw vegan options, they also serve (usually Belgian) meat options, so it's an awesome place to go if you're in a group with people with different dietary preferences. The staff is really friendly and considerate. It is kind of an upscale and more pricey place, but it's totally worth it for me! read more

Been this restaurant for few times. And I ordered the lamb shoulder for three times. First time it's perfect and that's even better than the roast whole lamb in China. And the second time it's totally mashed. It's over cooked and I can't even cut it use a really sharp knife. Then they gave me two free drinks for that. Third time it's just average. But the old man ( I think he is the host) in the store is quite nice so I'll give a 4 stars. read more

Nice decor, very good beer, mediocre food and the worst service I have ever had... the only time in the last 90 minutes that I have been asked if I wanted something was when the waiter took my order! Not only that the main course took over 45 minutes to be served. A simple cod fish! All the eye and nothing on the substance. Very disappointing for a beautiful city! read more

Straight up racist! I'm in Leuven on business for just a few days and my girlfriend and I decided to try some real Belgian dishes, so we picked this place. We walked in to this place with big smiles on our faces because we had been just talking about how nice the people of Lueven had been so far. Funny thing is that this a huge restaurant, but literally empty when all restaurants around them were packed. So you would think they'd wanna welcome all patrons. The host was an old white dude; literally looked us up and down and said "yes?" when we walked in. We are dressed up for that night, so I know his look wasn't for any dress-code "violation" bs. I asked for a table for two. He looked around THE EMPTY dining room and took us around to a tiny room which appeared to be their little party room. Didn't say a word and walked away! We sat for like 5 minutes (reminder, the place was empty and the waiters were just chilling by the kitchen). A waiter showed up and left some bread and butter on the table and walked away. While we were sitting, another couple walked in; the same host supper nicely greeted them, took their coats and sat them in the main area. About 8 minutes had passed by since the bread guy had showed up but no waiter yet, not even to ask for drinks or to bring water. BUT GUESS WHAT, the other couple that were just seated were already drinking their cocktails. Oh yeah, should I even mention that they were white. So we got up and walked out. When we were walking out, I told the 5 waiters that were just standing there that this was a terrible experience and that we had been sitting in that little back room for almost 15 minutes with no service. The dude said "well I brought you bread" and just watched us walk out without even trying to apologize or anything. So, we took our money and spent it somewhere else.
