Even though you're in the middle of tourist central, we had a wonderful lunch here! We originally requested to sit outside, but as it looked like it might rain, the host suggested we sit inside, which was very nice. Started with an excellent, and reasonably priced, bottle of Chablis (44 Euros). We also got a really interesting amuse that paired perfectly with the wine. The Moules Poulette (33 Euros) were huge and delicious, and of course come with good frites. Jim G. ordered a Linguine aux Fruits de Mer (32 Euros), which was amazing! Honestly, one of the best dishes on our trip and so unlike him to order! Full of scampi, langoustines, prawns, and mussels, with an amazing sauce, but not too heavy. We had a reservation but had to wait for our table. Service here was so slow. To get a drink and to order you must ask because they never came to the table unless you flag them. We shared Moules-frites, menu said spicy. There was nothing spicy about them, not even that much flavor. The frites were little tiny nubs, very disappointing. I ordered the shrimp with linguine, it taste fine but the pasta all clumped together, sticky. My friend ordered the steak frites medium, it arrived raw and very grizzly. It took so long to flag someone about it, they wanted to make another but it took too long. This was our only bad meal in Belgium, what a disappointment! Great restaurant right in the middle Les Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert. Le Marmiton has a menu filled with local dishes and French classics as well. There are some multicourse options, but we ordered a la carte. We started off with some fresh oysters and white asparagus with egg, which was fantastic. The beef carbonnade was solid, and the duck a la orange was a nice version of an old school dish. The wine list also has some great options, and you can order by the glass, half bottle, carafe, etc. Service was professional and friendly, and while in a very touristy area, Le Marmiton delivers great food at a good value. We showed up around 10pm and got the last seating because the kitchen was closing in 15 min., even though closing time is posted as 11:30, but that means something else in Europe The food was very good, for dessert I recommend the Belgian Chocolate Mousse. It did not disappoint, they had Kir royal on the menu so my friend was very happy. We both had the mussels Marmiton mine was the starter which were exceptionally fresh and delicious , I also had the pesto pasta. Although it is a small restaurant and hard to get into the escargot (sans shell) of course in garlic was very good. They serve some very local dishes but I felt obligated to try the mussels even though they are not in season, since it seems sac religious to go to Brussels and not have mussels. The waiter spoke perfect English which always helps. The mussels were good but not great because they were frozen but I had some scallops that were excellent. To my surprise and dismay, a lot of restaurants in Brussels seem to cater toward tourists. Now I am a tourist, but I'd like to eat like a local as much as possible. With scarce information online, I decided to survey the scene first hand and scout out my best option for dining in my area. This is how I found Le Marmiton. I was lucky enough to snag the last seat before the restaurant was full-up for dinner. I went with a 3-course menu and got Burgundy snails as an appetizer. Ordered an Affligem, which was the restaurant's alternating beer of the month. Smooth with a slight ale flavor. Not much if any carbonation. Slight alcohol finish. Bread was brought to the table. Simple flavor with a good crust. Butter was in a small tub, but the flavor was mature and cultured. I also received a small bowl of olives as a pre-meal snack. Carrots and thin slices of celery were in there. Salty but not too briny tasting. Good with the beer. The meat of the Burgundy snails was too interesting not to order. Meat is slightly chewy, but mild and doesn't offer much flavor. However, I'd rather have a clean tasting snail than a distasteful one. Garlic and butter is the flavor here. A lot of green in there, I think it was either parsley or chervil. A crunch of sand here and there. Perhaps this is commonplace while eating snails. I cannot say as this was my first time. Very enjoyable overall, despite a few unpleasant crunches of sand. The snail meat is mostly a conduit for a melted compound butter. Mussels are a must try in Belgium. They are steamed in a small mussel pot with carrots, celery and then topped with cheese. Fresh clean taste, but there are some sand crunches here and there. It's quite nice to get a hunk of mussel meat coated in that cheese. Oceany broth at bottom of the pot. Next up is the beef carbonnade, served with fries. This beef stew is another must-try item in Belgium. Tender beef chunks stewing in a brown gravy. The meat, while tender, does need some mastication. I'd expect stewed beef to melt in my mouth, but it isn't quite there. But very savory flavor from the gravy with a subtle and lovely alcohol complexity. Fries have new potato taste. Some bite, but not very crunchy. Very soft interior. Serviceable, but I'd like a crisper texture. Pairs well with the gravy. Lastly was dessert. Belgian chocolate mousse with whipped cream and ice cream. Maybe because I have a giant sweet tooth, but this was my favorite part of the meal. Mousse has a deep chocolate flavor and decadent texture. Rich vanilla ice cream is well paired with the darker chocolate flavor here. Absolutely no ice crystals in this ice cream and has a malty mouthfeel. Super creamy and light whipped cream adds additional richness and nuance. Vanilla wafer for a sweet crunchy nuance. I'm glad I discovered Le Marmiton, and highly recommend visiting. read more

We went there for an early dinner, which we glad we did as there seemed a lot of reservations for the night. The prix fixe menu were only available in French, but the server were helpful explaining the items ( although it's impossible to memorize all at once, so we still take a while to decide) The quality and taste of the food were great, prix fixe was well deserved the money we spent! Had a wonderful meal at Le Marmiton. We came around 7.30 on a Monday without a reservation and it was full so we opted to sit outside. It was actually very comfortable because of the heaters. We were started off with a bread basket and olives while reading the menu. We had the usual - moules frites and steak tartare - and were so happy! Both dishes were delicious and portions were a good size. We usually don't linger, but we liked this place so much that we stayed for dessert. We had a belgian waffle that came with ice cream and chantilly and small pitcher of hot chocolate sauce on the side - very yummy! We were worried that we would be forgotten by our waitress while sitting outside of the restaurant, but she was very sweet and attentive and we felt well taken care of. Would recommend this place over and over again. Prices were reasonable, perhaps on the pricey side but it's nothing considering the quality of the food. read more

DO NOT GO HERE. Maybe the other reviews made our expectations too high?! BUT seriously the service was the worst!! The mussels were pretty good but I was too distracted by the lack of service & the rudeness when asked if we could move to a booth (they stated it was "reserved" they lied because it remained open till we left and the restaurant was empty) and the fact that it took at least 15 minutes to get a check to LEAVE after I asked! There was no adults working- they were young adults and acted like children. It was a Sunday night perhaps the boss was off? What a shame they couldn't properly run a restaurant. We didn't enjoy the steak tartar it was really salty & barley touched, of course they refused to remove it off the check. I'd tell you about the bread basket on everyone's table but we never got any. It was so hard to get anyone's attention- it was the worst accommodations by far- do NOT waste your time or money here. What a disappointment :( read more

Le Martin is a fabulous restaurant located off of a covered pedestrian walkway one block off of the Grand Place. They have a variety of options (mostly seafood and steaks) with an extensive wine and beer list, though they do specialize in muscles. They have four pre-set three course meal options ranging from €20 to €40. They also have individual starters, entrees, and deserts available which are larger and considerably more expensive (entrees alone range from €18 to €40). We ordered off of the preset menus to sample a few of their specialties without breaking the budget. For starters we selected the small pot of muscles and the tuna carpaccio. To preface my bias, I'm from a coastal city of Florida in the United States, my all time favorite dish there is fresh tuna, and I don't care for muscles. This tuna was some of the best I've ever had. I honestly don't know how the chef even managed to prepare such thinly sliced tuna without it completely falling apart. It's served with salt, a basaltic glaze, and fresh basil. If you're going to eat here and you like tuna, try it! Though I don't care for muscles, these were some of the freshest I've had. They were well seasoned, not sandy or gritty, and served with vegetables. For the entrees we ordered the veal mignon and curry chicken. I was pleasantly surprised by both dishes, as many of the other Belgian dishes in the area that we tried were bland. The veal was cooked well, very tender, and served with sautéed mushrooms and fries. The curry chicken was very flavorful (though not hot ) and served with a rich pasta. The desert is quite simple for the preset meals: fruit and ice cream. Not much can be said about that, it was standard and a nice way to end the meal. The wait staff is very welcoming, attentive, and helpful (though keep in mind if you're from be US, Belgium is a country where waiters checking in on you every few minutes is considered extremely rude, so just flag them down if you need anything). They offer free bread bowls until your entrees arrive which the wait staff magically kept full the entire time, fantastic service. We arrived around 7:00pm (19:00) on a week day and they only had one table left which was outside. They do take reservations for both outside and inside. Reserving a table ahead of time is recommended. Credit cards are also accepted. read more

I try to eat here every time I am in Brussels. It is located in a rather tourist-filled area, but I have never seen another tourist in here. I always make a reservation and send an email confirmation. This place is popular. I got the fixed menu. The wild boar pate was amazing: flavorful, rich and complemented by the crispy toast, both for texture and slight char. The house wine is decent, but they do have a nice selection of wines and some half bottles. I stayed with the boar - a main consisting of boar stew. It was succulent, but the sauce was a bit salty. The potatoes were a lovely accompanying side. The dessert was a tiramisu ... which was just spectacular. If you are in Brussels. I would recommend you visit this establishment. read more

It was almost noon, and I was walking along Rue des Bouchers looking for a good place to grab moules frites (mussels with fries) for lunch. Most of the restaurants had hawkers outside trying to get me to come inside, which really turned me off. This placed looked a bit classier, so I stepped inside. I'm glad I did. This is a small bistro with a large staff and great menu. After ordering the Moules Marinière and a beer, I nibbled on the complimentary olives and fresh bread. The were mussels served in a flavourful broth of white wine and assorted chopped vegetables (celery, parsley, carrot, onion) to add some flavour. I'm not normally a huge fan of mussels - it's a lot of effort vs. amount of meat that you get - but this place made the dish taste great. It's a relatively quiet restaurant on an otherwise busy street, so it was a nice respite to get away from the crowds for an hour. Although this place was a bit pricier than the neighbouring touristy restaurants (€20 here vs. €10-15 elsewhere), the calmer atmosphere and presumably better quality of the meal made it worthwhile. I'll definitely come again next time I'm in Brussels. read more

We were in Brussels for Tomorrowland 2015 and our hotel was close to this establishment. On our first night we were walking around to find a good place to have dinner. It was the first one we saw in this little street filled with restaurants, so we initially skipped it. A random Belgian guy (whom we are forever grateful) saw us walking around and finding the door to this one restaurant that was rated 4.5 stars on yelp (forgot the name). Little did we know that it was closed that day so he recommended Le Marmiton, the first restaurant we saw haha. So obviously we had no reservations but they were nice enough to give us a table that was reserved for 21:00 (gave us about 2hrs, insert 1 star here). Being that we were in Brussels, it was only fitting that we order beer (Leffe Blonde and Bush), mussels and entrecote (and of course they both came with fries). Holy cow I didn't expect the mussels to be a huge serving (!!!) but they were cooked perfectly and the broth was amazing especially with bread. The entrecote was grilled medium rare and it was delicious. We opted for mayonnaise instead of ketchup for our fries, and my bf noticed that they made the mayonnaise from scratch (insert another star here), oh my goodness... I'm not a mayonnaise addict but that sucker was so good it looked like I was on mayo withdrawals. We had such a great experience that we went back two more times (with our group/party of 6, and the night before our flight home). The service is great and the staff was very attentive. It's one of the most memorable restaurants we've encountered from all of our travels. That should say something about this place huh. This place took us in off the street without a booking, though they asked if we would be able to be done within an hour of arriving. Which would of course depend on how fast we could order and receive our drinks and food. From the time we sat down till the time we were ready to go we had the best service. Our server was amazing. All the food was delicious and served in a reasonable time and we had an excellent experience here. We will try to return soon! I had the sole with a mild paprika sauce that was outstanding. Good vegetables, cooked a bit more than should have been. (1 star down, would be a half). Fresh salad.
