We've been in Florida since late December and had heard great things about this newer restaurant in Sarasota, My Mamma. We tried to get weekend reservations a few times but were always too late! Yesterday after golfing, I happened to check again and was so excited to finally secure a reservation. We were warmly greeted by Stefano, who checked in with us throughout the evening. Antonio was our bartender and server, and Andres kept everything running smoothly behind the scenes, even polishing wine glasses and keeping everything perfectly set and tidy. The menu features focaccia pizza, which looked amazing--we'll definitely try that next time with a group. They also offer a nice selection of wine and beer. Based on Antonio and Stefano's suggestions, we shared the Caesar salad and the chicken parm. They were absolutely right--both were delicious. Portions are very generous, and this would be a great place to return with friends and order several dishes to share family-style. The Caesar salad was hands-down one of the best we've ever had--very cold and crisp, with freshly made croutons and a perfectly balanced dressing that wasn't heavy at all. The chicken parm was massive--far larger than expected--and absolutely delicious. The sauce was outstanding. We can't say enough great things about both the food and the service. The passion of the team truly shines through, and it's clear that everyone--from the top down--takes pride in what they do. Thank you for a most memorable imeal. I went at the request of a friend wanting to go to an authentic Italian restaurant. I read some amazing reviews and I no wish I could give a rave review as well. That being said it wasn't all negative. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but very cute inside. The Bar is Wine only bar. Hoping for some Limoncello, or a Limoncello Spritzer like I had in Italy. The Foccaccia di Parma was definitely not what I hoped for, partly our fault as it was the only one that didn't have sauce which I missed, but more than that the Prosciutto was stringy, cold and chewy. It was beautiful but the Prosciutto made it not very edible, I took it off. The bread itself was good and the olive oil used for dipping was very good. The pasta was hit and miss. There were three of us so we tasted all three. I thought the Parpadelle Bolognese was the best and the Lasagna a close second. The pasta was fresh and al dente. The tomato sauce was very fresh and flavorful as well. The Paccheri Contadina was very bland considering it had Italian sausage, mushrooms and truffle sauce. The dessert was the most disappointing. I love Tiramisu but these was so bland. Very little coffee flavor, maybe one lady finger, so basically a cup of fluffy pudding. The positive was the staff! I have been seeing a lot of little videos on insta from this new place so wanted to try it , once there decided on the focaccia because the pasta and rest of the menu is pricey . The staff is very nice owner also very welcoming, the ambiance is cute and easy parking . I ate at this restaurant yesterday (Friday evening). The location of the restaurant is not the greatest, but the inside atmosphere was decent. The staff was friendly and attentive. We had the arancini for an appetizer, lasagna and the gnocchi for an entree, and tiramisu for dessert. The arancini were not the best I ever had, the lasagna was pretty good (I think the meat could have been a little more tender), the gnocchi were one of the best around our areas, and the tiramisu was a good competitor to some of the other Italian restaurants around. Great experience start to finish. Nice selection of wines by the bottle; a bit more limited by the glass. There were 4 of us who were dining there before a show at the Asolo. Caesar salad was served in a beautiful bowl - and was perfectly dressed & delicious. The pizza on foccacia is to die for! I had pasta with mushrooms, sausage & truffle sauce - it was delicious. Wanted to really like this place, but very strange for such an extensive wine list only a handful of wines could get by the glass and extremely expensive bottle costs. You should have salt and pepper shakers on tables for guests. The server took the salt pepper off our table to give to another guest, and never brought it back. The mussels tasted fishy - we mentioned it to server - he did not take it back. The beef dish was all mashed potatoes with very little meat. Good food. Good mood...this restaurant was a little gem of a place hidden right on Tamiami Trail and Deborah and I had a wonderful dinner there tonight. We were seated right away. The decor was done well and I really liked the colors and signs hung on the walls. We were given bread and oil to start with. We both chose the wild Salmone al limone with green beans and a salad and it was delicious! We decided to split a Zeppola Con Gelato (Italian fried pastry) and I had a great espresso! It was a quiet place with music playing in the background and we weren't rushed through our evening at all. They had a nice selection of pasta dishes that looked tasty as well. This was my first visit to Mymama. Having read the numerous reviews on various websites, I was really looking forward to a gastronomical dining experience featuring true authentic Italian cusine. With the exception of the Caesar salad, the food we order was very good. The lasagna was exceptional, perhaps the best I ever had. My wife ordered the Pappardelle Bolognese which I felt was pretty good. My wife, however, felt it was too salty and didn't care for the sauce. Now to the Caesar salad. It lacked flavor and was anything but "authentic." They used the tips of the romaine, so there was absolutely no crunch. The dressing seemed to be nothing more than olive oil with a touch of white vinegar. It was served with a minuscule amount of shaved cheese, like 3 tiny strips and a couple of croutons. No dijon. No anchovies. No egg yolk. No Worcester No pepper. No grated Peccorino Romano. For the price charged ($15.90) it was a huge negative. Suggestion for MYMAMMA: Prepare a genuine Caesar Salad table-side (like Marcello's does) using all of the above ingredient's. Then perfect it. Charge $18.95 per person and watch your business boom! MYmamma has great potential. Bonus, we went on a Thursday night (Oct 30) and they had live music that evening featuring a female singer. Her voice was angelic. I'd go there again just to hear her sing...but I really hope they improve the Caesar salad. read more

When I asked why they charged me $8.00 for tap water the waiter did not explain anything, he just yelled at me saying why do you expect water to be free, somebody has to pay for water! On a Thursday night, a charming Italian woman with a voice like the smoothest tiramisu sang Italian classics. While service was uneven and the white wine list weak, the food was authentic and savory. The salmone alla Positano was outstanding. Generous portions with a fresh tomato, caper, olive sauce topped with lemon juice and chopped parsley. Perfectly cooked to our request. The focaccia margarita was fresh and appealing. Very tasty. An ideal appetizer for a table of four. The decor and tableware made it feel like home. Our group each commented that the only off -tune element was the thin brown paper napkins. The bare wood table tops could use a white topping - even paper - and the aspired to ambience begs for oversized white or red and white checkered dinner napkins. I've really enjoyed all of my experiences at My Mamma. This is my third time coming, and it's been great every time. I've tried both the gnocchi and the pappardelle alla Bolognese, and neither has disappointed. The food is consistently delicious, and the desserts are just as impressive. The tiramisu especially stands out, it's perfectly balanced, even for someone like me who's not a big coffee fan. The service has also been amazing. Each time, the owner himself has served us, and he's such a kind and welcoming person. The whole atmosphere is lovely too. The decorations are beautiful and make the space feel really cozy and comfortable. The vibe is perfect for a date night or small group dinner. The food was absolutely amazing. The prosciutto focaccia was our favorite starter, fresh, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. The spaghetti and meatballs were also a hit, so flavorful and the fresh pasta just elevated the dish. Honestly every single dish our group of six ordered was spot on. To end the night, they brought us a cannoli that was heavenly, such a sweet touch that made the experience feel even more special. I told my Server that I wanted gnocchi withmarinara sauce and meat. He said that they have this boiled or braised beef that is cooked for something like eight hours or more and that it was very good. I said OK. I assumed that it would be with the marinara and the beef because that's what I asked for. He brought over the Parmesan after I requested it, and put little tiny teaspoons at a time like he was sprinkling gold onto my plate. When the gnocchi came out, there was no marinara to be seen. Although the meat sauce was good. It just wasn't what I ordered. He did not explain that he meant that the meat sauce was in place of the marinara. The other waiter buzzed by my table and asked how it was and I said meh. Then the original waiter came by, and I told him why I was not enjoying myself, and he proceeded to argue with me and make me wrong, because he thought I had too much Parmesan on my pasta. It was about half the Parmesan. I usually put on my pasta because he was so stingy with the Parmesan that he was sprinkling on my plate and what audacity to tell me what was too much in his estimation on my plate for my pallet. He then went into another diatribe about how that meat is cooked so long, which makes no sense. What does that have to do with? If this dish is the one I ordered or not? Please make it make sense. He did not fix the problem. He walked away thinking. It was perfectly fine that I did not get the dish I ordered and that I was not enjoying it. The other Server came by, and asked if it would be OK if he could take my dish what I had already put into a takeout container, I said fine. By this time, I just wanted to get out of there, so I took my to go order paid the bill and got out of there. another note is that they are extremely stingy with their portions, shockingly so. Their idea of a bread service is about three cubes or bites in a very tiny bowl with a tiny ramekin of about a tablespoon of olive oil. It was bizarre. It was offensive .my Moscato wine was mediocre at best and kind of pricey at $12 and they did not put a normal serving in the glass. It was about half what a restaurant would normally put in a glass, so in actuality compared to the norm in restaurant culture, that was six dollars worth of Moscato for $12, or I would have to order two to equal one serving in a regular restaurant so that would be $24. Apparently they don't think their customers will notice. I left that restaurant and went down the street to Victoria's, which has newly opened up and it's a Hong Kong style Chinese food place, and I had the kung pao chicken where they give you a generous amount of chicken. Oh my gosh, well seasoned, and you can get another dish off their special dinner plate menu for half price, so I got some low men with beef, and that was a whole plate of that, with a Thai iced tea. The kung pao chicken, which was a whole plateful was 1599, if I remember correctly, and the lo mein with half of that so eight dollars and then the Thai tea was I think something like 599 and I got great service with a smile and a private room and I have lots of leftovers. That'll last me about three more meals, and it was fresh and it was delicious. I suggest you go there instead of this Italian place that is overpriced, underserved, and under portioned. Overnight my gnocchi marinating in the refrigerator in the marinara should taste better. It was subpar at best. I don't know when they made the gnocchi, but it wasn't recently. The gnocchi was not fresh, and it was a bit gummy. I have a store where they have a local supplier that makes handmade pasta and I buy gnocchi when they have it I think around six or seven dollars for a tray, and then I put a jar of marinara from Aldi, which is believe it or not two dollars or less, and I fry up ground chuck and ground pork and add that and then put Parmesan cheese from Trader Joe's on that and my gnocchi believe it or not, and I am not even Italian, is way better than theirs, and for the price they charge for one serving, I can make at least six servings to eat at home. It was a mistake to try this place, and it was a waste of my money in time, and I will not do that again. The contentious waiter that would not correct anything I just wanted to be right and fight and blame was just the piece de resistance. So, to recap, it was a very nasty experience with my Server, with underpar food and pricey... Not a good combination for a restaurant. read more
