A very nice, cozy park to relax and get away. Facing westerly with a sweeping view about 180 to 360 degrees, you can come here a do nothing. Two benches. A lot of joggers. Even more people taking photos. I've live in Seattle nearly all of my life, and I've always know about Sunset Hill park. Aw, to have one of the houses on the other side of the street facing the same direction--this is on 34th Ave. NW where you can't drive any farther west. Located just south of Golden Gardens Park is a smaller, lesser-known park with great views of the bay. It's tucked away in the middle of the neighborhood with parking along the streets. There are some benches where you can sit, relax, and watch the sunset. There's no playground structure and there's just a small patch of green grass so there isn't much else to do here but it's still a peaceful spot. read more

If you're in the neighborhood, this is a cute little spot to spend a few minutes and get great views of the Sound and the Olympic Mountains! Every time I come here, it is clean and has at least a few people hanging out enjoying the views. I especially love the diagram of the Olympic Mountains that gives the names of some the peaks you can see in front of you across the water! Also, in the summer time, you can see what looks like wild raspberries growing on the other side of the fence along the slope of the hill. Pretty cool. It's not exactly a place to go out of your way for, but definitely a place to stop & take a short stroll if you are nearby. The first time I saw the view, I was in awe. I had just moved into Seattle and never seen the Olympics or Puget Sound like that before, though. I still haven't watched the sun set here, but I plan to someday! read more

What a lovely spot to take in the sunset over the Sound. The park is small but the views are spectacular, especially the views of the Olympics. There is very limited seating for those who can't enjoy blanket/grass chilling. Bring a folding chair with you to watch the water views or sit sideways to people watch. As a dog lover, I have found this to be an excellent vantage point to watch an endless puppy parade! I don't know if I would make a special trip to hang out at this park but if I were in the neighbourhood and found a parking spot, sure. Views are aces and the people (for the most part) are mindful about spreading out! read more

This is a park? Really? Okay Seattle, you need to make another word for these smalls strips of grass with benches, they are not parks! Calling them parks gets people's hopes up. While the strip of grass is breathtakingly beautiful at sunset. And the bench is comfy. It is not a real park. It's a small section of greenery with an incredible view. So no, your kids can't play here, your dogs can't run here and you can't show off your sweet ultimate frisbee skills. What you can do is snuggle next to a loved one and reflect on the beauty of nature, maybe even get a little sugar to boot. In conclusion, yes, it's a nice place to view the sunset but other than that, travel elsewhere for a real park. read more

At the northwest end of Ballard is Sunset Hill Park: another one of those sweet spots scattered throughout Seattle. The park has a panoramic view of the Olympic mountains and the Sound. There's not really anything else in the park and it's pretty tiny. But it's about 10 blocks from Caffe Fiore (the 85th street site) and it's a nice place to stop, coffee in hand, if you're meandering around this part of Ballard and take in a spectacular view. How spectacular is the view? One day I was running by and a bridal party was taking their photos against this backdrop and it *almost* upstaged the bride. read more

Love, love, love this amazing overlook and park. A must-see if you've got folks visiting during nice weather ... the sunsets are breathtaking, there's zero traffic noise, and everyone's amazingly friendly and chatty. It's not rare to see small family picnics and dogs galore, as well as impromptu frisbee games. If you manage to visit during quieter times the beauty of this overlook is transcendental. read more

Such a pretty view any time of year. Whether the Puget Sound is fogged over or it's clear blue w sail boats it's a great place to throw the ball for dogs or to read from a bench. Have yet to bring my lunch there but there is picnic benches:) read more

I love this small and laid-back Ballard park, with a wonderful view, in walking distance from my brother's house. I love how even the smallest neighborhood park in Seattle has such a wonderful view. Because sun can be hard to come by sometimes in Seattle, whenever you have a sunny day, people are out and about, smiling and being pleasant. It's evident they don't take nice weather for granted. Limited formal seating so bring your own blanket or folding chair if you want to sit a while. You can face out toward the beautiful view of the city, or you can face the sidewalk and street for some great people and dog watching. read more

I used to spend a lot of time here when I lived in Ballard. Since moving away a number of years ago, I think about it as I drive by. I decided to take a walk here today on my way back from a disappointing quest (business is closed on Mondays). It's got a gorgeous view and folks like to walk their dogs here. There are a number of park benches to sit and enjoy the view. The fence is not ideal, particularly when trying to get a good picture but I'm sure it's a safety concern. I like that you can see the marina from here. The mountains, passing boats, and trees complete the experience. I'd call this more of a viewpoint instead of a park. Still a good place to relax and watch the sunset. read more

Firstly, I have never been attacked by crows at this park. It's a tiny, serene little place, basically right on top of Golden Gardens, perfect for a sunset or lunch picnic. I just love coming here, plus, it's rarely, rarely crowded, if you even see another soul staying a while. Mountains, water, marina, this park has a view of so many of the fine natural sights that Seattle has to offer. Try Picolino's down the street for a pizza or head down Seaview to Paseo and come back to munch on it. Perfect on a crowded day at Golden Gardens, instead of waiting and prowling for a parking spot, just come up here, chill out, and enjoy the view! read more

When I lived in Sunset Hill, my sweetie and I would frequently visit SHP on our way home. It's an absolutely amazing, 10 star view - mountains, sound, boats, you got it. Nowadays we live a bit further away, but like to stop by if we get takeout in Ballard and eat. Hopefully we don't creep any of the neighbors out (if it's dark or cold we stay in the car). This tiny park is worth every single one of these five stars. The view here of the Sound and the mountains is absolutely breathtaking. It's fun to just walk by and admire the beautiful view. It's kind of like the Kerry Park of Ballard, I think. Thought I'd hit peak Ballard view potential at Golden Gardens, but the perspective from the top of Sunset Hill is absolutely magnificent. You can see an incredible breadth of Puget Sound and, on a clear day, the entire Olympic Mountain range (with a handy reference guide mounted near the fence). Go on a day with some sun and take it all in. read more
