Really bad. They tell you pertinent information before move in and then don't follow through once lease is signed. Things break and they take incredibly long to fix it; also make it difficult. The apartments are nice tho, just a huge headache dealing with them when things go wrong and you need them to do their job . They are all connected to the landlord. I had a solid experience with Tom from MySpace NYC. What more can I say? Going through the apartment rental process (and I have many times) you rarely remember the good experiences, and nearly never forget the bad. Based on that thinking, I'll soon forget MySpace NYC. Here's the breakdown of my go with these folks: 1. I found an apartment I liked on Craigslist. 2. I contacted the agent (Tom) and he offered to show the unit to myself and roommates the next day. 3. We saw the place. Liked it. Tom told us about the neighborhood (where he also lives). 4. We deliberated for a few hours before contacting Tom, letting him know we would like to put down a deposit. 5. Tom came all the way from Williamsburg to the Upper East Side at midnight on a Friday to get the pre-lease paperwork signed. 6. We signed the lease today. Simple, streamlined, fast. Really, what more could you ask for? (OK, I take it back... I will remember MySpace NYC. Probably the day I decide to rent another place.) I'll add one more thing: Tom is a good salesman. Not like some of the other overly salesy, pushy RE agents everyone undoubtedly comes in contact with living in NYC. The ones constantly emphasizing the goods, downplaying the bads. I suppose the best salesmen are the ones who you don't realize are selling you on something. Tom was casual, honest, friendly, etc. What I'm saying is... go give this man your business, dammit!! I would recommend MySpace NYC to a friend, and will likely use this company again myself. read more

This is my first Yelp review- I am normally not one to write reviews at all, but our experience at MySpace was such a disorganized mess I had to write one. It was a battle just to get 3 sets of keys. We arranged to pick up our keys on the 26th of the month, (we confirmed with our agent). When we showed up to pick up our keys, everyone at the office was rude and dismissive. It was clear they had no idea where our keys were and were playing it off like it was somehow our fault they didn't have keys to their own unit. Our biggest issue with this whole situation was Clint Gillenwater. After we were unable to get our keys, he e-mails us with no introduction (we still don't know who he is or what he does at MySpace) saying that in order to get our keys 5 days early we would have to provide prorated rent, (about $500). This was never mentioned prior to the key incident, and was clearly just them trying to cover up the fact that they had no idea where our keys were. So, we arranged to pick up the keys 5 days later so we could move in by the 1st, (we figured 5 days was plenty of time for them to get their act together). We show up a week later and wait an hour, (again...this is just to pick up 3 sets of keys). It is clear that after a week they STILL don't know where our keys are. Our agent Christian showed up and gave us some keys- but not even enough for each tenant, (2 keys for 3 tenants). Christian was very kind and helpful in the apartment process; but again, when it came time to pick up the keys dropped the ball. She was, however, more communicative than anyone else working there. Since we only got 2 keys for 3 tenants, we had to go make another copy. MySpace did not offer to compensate us for the cost of copying the key, nor did they seem bothered by the fact that we were doing their job for them. When we moved in, the apartment was dilapidated and did not have a working toilet or screens in the window. I would, of course, recommend avoiding them. But that is also difficult in New York as these companies tend to have monopolies over properties. read more

We contacted Tom after finding one of his listings, he heard our story and worked quickly and thoroughly to help find us the best place for our price and location limitations! I am furious with how unprofessional this company has been, and how they clearly are clueless about the management companies/landlords they work with. AVOID using this company. All of the negative reviews about this business are accurate. My boyfriend and I worked with Alexander - who is known to his colleagues as "the boomerang" - he even has a shirt with this nickname on it - because all of the deals he's about to sign end up backing out. My first question is: if this business knows that this broker is incompetent, why is he still working there?! Anyway, Alexander showed us our apartment - and he told us: (1) There would be a washer/dryer unit installed - Come to find out: No washer/dryer was ever going to be installed in our unit, our lease actually says we're not allowed to have one. (2) That we could move in at midnight Oct 1st - Which turned out to be completely false and something that he made up. (3) That the lights in the bedroom did not work, but would be fixed by move-in - The lights in the bedroom didn't work, because there were no lights in the bedroom, at all. They didn't exist. Among many other untrue statements... Alexander is a people-pleaser in the worst sense - he says ANYTHING to make you happy, even if what he is saying is a blatant lie. We finally signed a lease and moved in - but two weeks later we are still waiting on a $70 check that was supposed to be hand delivered to our building... and now my emails are being ignored. I do not recommend this company. What I recommend is you do the research yourself, don't blindly trust anyone, and ask a million questions, even if your broker thinks you're annoying - because they aren't the ones signing a year lease - YOU ARE. read more

It should be said that being a terrible human being is basically a pre-requisite for being a broker in this city. If you find one who's not, follow them to the ends of the earth. I've worked with a slew of brokers since moving to NYC and, while all of them have been horrible, none have pulled as many tricks or lied as blatantly as those I encountered at MySpace NYC. My boyfriend and I were looking for a roomshare situation that would give us a large room or basement with private bath. I found an apartment listed on Craigslist that looked like a great fit. The ad boasted a recent renovation, laundry in unit and a studio-sized room with 2 "huge" closets and a private bath. When I inquired, I was told that because we were a couple, the rent would go up $200. I told him that was ridiculous and that we were no longer interested, so he told us he would talk to the landlord about getting it down and we decided to view it anyway. When we viewed the apartment, it was not exactly as-advertised. There were 2 closets, but both were pretty small. The apartment itself was older and didn't look like it had just been renovated. When I asked Bryan to confirm that it had been recently renovated, he lied once again. He also told us that the backyard was scheduled to be cleaned of debris and weeds and that the landlord was going to put laundry in the unit once all of the tenants moved in. Because we were in a desperate situation with our last place, we decided to take it. Bryan told us that the landlord wouldn't take any less than an extra $150 for a couple, so we just went for it out of desperation...even though we were pretty sure only Bryan cared about the extra $150 (not the landlord). When we gave our deposit to Bryan, I even asked him if the increase was because he wanted more commission, and he once again lied and said no. After moving in, 2 of the rooms were still vacant...and they stayed vacant for a long time. Then, as Bryan was showing people the apartment, i heard him spewing even more lies to the other potential tenants. Then, they started advertising the cellar as a bedroom. We were told that the cellar would be for only storage and laundry, so this felt like another blow. Then, I read up on building codes and it would be illegal to rent out the space because there are no windows and the ceilings are low. So I made it an effort to point that out anytime Bryan was showing the apartment. He deserved to be called out for his lies and the viewers deserved to know the truth. After another month or so of living there, the final tenants moved in, at which point we were supposed to get the washer/dryer. I contacted the landlord and he didn't seem to know much about it, but said he would order it. It took another month or two of me pestering the landlord before we actually had laundry. We've lived in the apartment for a year now. The backyard is still a mess. We explained the situation to our landlord about how the broker took advantage of our situation and told us the rent was one amount and then increased it by $150. Our landlord had no idea how much the brokers had even listed it for and didn't care that we were a couple so it was just all lies and manipulation as we suspected. Thankfully, the landlord is decreasing our rent slightly for the new year because of the situation. We're still paying more than what it was listed for and disproportionately more given what our roommates pay, but we just don't want to move if we can avoid it. Just do yourselves a favor and avoid these people. And take anything that any broker tells you with a grain of salt. You really can't trust any of them. read more

Myspace (despite its name, that I think we all know where they got it) is a legitimate rental broker company, and not a scam. I recently used them for a relocation due to job. First off, props to Alex Wendler who was absolutely fantastic! very patient and very attentive. went out of his way to help me out, cheers to him! It's a firm that is definitely catered towards seasoned renters. It is the expectation that you have your papers/w2/proof of income stuff right then and there otherwise it's off to the next person. My only piece of feedback to MySpace is that at times during the process, things felt "up in the air" and slightly disorganized, but nonetheless I got a fantastic spot and I will be recommending them for potential NYC relocatees that would like to use a broker/agent. read more

I contacted Eitan in regards to a listing in Bed Stuy and he was kind, polite and courteous in every encounter I had with him. We arranged a time to meet to view the apartment, and I fell in love with it right away. Unfortunately, I had already submitted an application to rent another apartment through another company called Nooklyn so I was stuck waiting to hear back from them. After no reply from Nooklyn for a few days, I finally got confirmation I was not going to be accepted so that I could happily apply to Eitan's listing. The process with Nooklyn was extremely frustrating for me as they were very unprofessional and unethical, but Eitan helped me with any questions along the way so I was able to seamlessly apply for the MySpace listing. When I heard back about getting accepted, I wanted to view the apartment once more before signing the lease and Eitan gladly arranged to meet me to quell any last minute reservations I had. When I met with Subrina to sign the lease, she was extremely knowledgable and helpful. I would definitely recommend using Eitan and Subrina from MySpace in your next apartment search! read more

My agent Contessa Stuto worked around my tight schedule and was able to show me six units all within my budget in a single afternoon. All of them were amazing, and I knew she really looked at my preferences and needs because they were all of such caliber and specific to my requests. But one apartment was especially amazing: it had a keyless entry, was close to the train, had two bedrooms and a walk-in closet, a washer and dryer in the unit, central air conditioning, a dishwasher and gorgeous kitchen, amazing hardwood, tons of sunlight, a shared backyard and rooftop patio, and was $1,500 cheaper than my previous apartment. I am extremely happy to say I now reside in the apartment and when I wake up there it's actually blows my mind that a space could make me so happy. Thank you Contessa for giving me that fresh start my life was so desperately calling for, I never believed I would be so lucky and finding a place would actually be a pleasure! I worked with Contessa Stuto and lemme tell yah, she was amazing. I'm new to NYC by way of LA and I was a bit overwhelmed with finding the perfect spot out here to house me and my two Boxer dogs. Enter Contessa. She made it so painless by finding the perfect place for us that we could call home. It's HUGE and close to the train so I have an easy commute to Manhattan (which was critical since time is everything out here). It even has surround sound, a washer and dryer in unit and a YARD. Now, I may have been able to find all this on my own but I would have had to put in countless hours searching and negotiating the terms for my pups (which I certainly didn't have time for). MySpace NYC is scamming renters, they continuously lie to the people that they have locked in contracts for and make false promises about what is to be received just so people will sign the leasing agreement. Once they receive their commission they refuse to answer emails and calls to right their wrongs. I've seen a lot of negative reviews for brokers even though they are no-fee (outside of the application fees). First and foremost people need to understand that this process SUCKS. Its difficult and discouraging. That being said, I have a tip for people who are just starting out and need to get through this process: HAVE ALL YOUR PAPERWORK IN ORDER BEFORE YOU LOOK AT APARTMENTS. This way you can just do the application on the spot for that apartment rather than having your soul crushed when your dream apartment gets rented out while you're frantically texting people to send in their damn bank statements. MySpace NYC helped me through the whole process and were even generous at times. Its a hard process but they try to get you through as best as possible given that everything needs to happen ASAP PDQ...when I mean fast I like speedy gonzalez "this should be done immediately" fast. Seriously. FAST. They were incredibly professional and on the ball for the entirety from looking at places to getting the lease signed...unlike some other brokers (I'm looking at you Nooklyn). The following portion of the review pertains specifically for Alex Valinsky - real estate agent extraordinaire. As soon as I contacted Alex through Naked Apartments, she pretty much dropped everything to help me. Although we ran into some initial difficulty with apartments getting rented before my roommates and I could do the necessary paperwork she was consistently optimistic and always had new options to present in a very limited area of Bushwick. Her persistence paid off even when things looked bleak and I finally signed on a place. She was 100% communicative from start to finish even responding to my despondent and pessemistic texts with encouragement. End of story: I'm super psyched on the place and have Alex to thank! Worked with Broker Chris Giardina (infamous racist all over the media for being belligerent drunk outside of a club in Brooklyn). He was the most unprofessional broker I've ever met -- used pushy sales tactics, impatient with our criteria of units, condescending with his email correspondence (in which I retained it all to forward to MySpace NYC), and most of all - was degrading towards women and as it turns out, also a racist. Customer service is the #1 guiding principle in any customer-facing industry. I retained all of my email communication with Chris, and brought it to the MySpace NYC's attention but they didn't care and never called me back for a follow-up. One of many examples as follow: I made my full deposit payment in a casher's check but in addition to that, the broker insisted that my renter's agreement be signed in front of a notary and stated that, "even a homeless person can get a piece of napkin notarized at the bank or post office just with a piece of ID so get that taken care of or else I'm giving away this unit." Unfortunately, I was in the need to secure an apartment in one week and the Delmar in LIC worked directly with MySpace NYC so I had to work with Chris (as he made the 1-month rent off my lease). Now dealing with an on-going pest living luxury apartment building (formally called All Year Management now under a new entity name of Smart Management because they received too many negative online reviews) but that's a separate review. Although Chris has been fired, please proceed with caution before signing with MySpace NYC because they never took any action (ignored my emails and calls) until months later when Chris's racist video went viral online (karma)! Frankly, MySpace NYC only let him go because they didn't want that to be the "face" of the real estate firm. read more
