The potato cakes were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The portion size of our main dishes was generous. However, they leaned more on the North American flavours instead of Japanese- they were quite salty and we had to drink a lot of water. My friend said that for her bowl, there was too much rice and not enough unagi. For my dish, there was a lot of fried noodles and sauce, but not enough vegetables to balance the saltiness. It was still fun to try a different take on Japanese food. For next time, we decided that we would order a drink and smaller items to share. If you are in the area, come and check this place out!

Soft tofu with ponzu - tofu is cold (refrigerated). Goes well with the sauce. House salad - pretty decent. Rice - sushi variety. Good for going with some of the other stuff. Miso - tasted fine. Salmon gunkan - salmon sashimi wrapped horizontally around a chunk of rice. Basically nigiri sushi with different form. Salmon sashimi - decent sized pieces. Seemed quite fresh. Salmon arancini - large breaded looking ball. I initially thought it was a croquette. It's actually cooked salmon mixed with rice, much like risotto. Pricing was fairly reasonable for the variety of food. Portion size was fairly decent. I can see myself coming back at some point. Recommended.

Everything was a bit oily and the restaurant certainly smells like it as well. My clothes had the same smell for some time afterwards. The prices for happy hour were fair. We ordered nearly everything on the happy hour menu to try. The food was just okay. The spicy mayo sauce was used on many items - the ebi mayo, the yam fries, the karaage. So these dishes all had a similar taste. Nothing really stood out to me. The sushi was just okay as well. I think we saw them microwaving the sushi rice in the kitchen. Service was okay. I think the waitress we had was new. Also, I would note that their washroom is kind of separate from the restaurant itself. You use a keycode to get into another lobby where the washroom is. They share this with Robba da Matti. I likely won't be going back. The kitchen staff and boss spoke Cantonese to each other. This is quite different from before, where the staff were mostly Japanese. I think they've had an owner changeover for the worse. It's too bad because I remember the quality being much better for the price, and most happy hours end earlier so this would have been a good spot.

Next, came the crab cake, which was generously filled with crab and paired with delicious house made butter. Not the coveted glass-like shatter of viet baguettes you'd expect though. They are a bit light on the fillings but the ratio of meat to sauce to veg/pickles is good. For $11, price is a bit high for the size of the sandwich. Overall, its ok. Not bad. Not great. I am forgiving their sandwich mixup here for this review.
