    Red devil calamari
    Rodney G.

We saw good reviews for this restaurant and wanted to try it out. It didn't open until 2 pm which was fine, while happy hours was 2 to 5. Our server was Rachel and she was amazing. Polite, professional and very helpful describing the food and cocktails. We ordered steamed edamame, burnt ends lettuce wraps, waygu gyoza and a large plate of red devil calamari. All their food was well prepared, flavorful and nicely portioned. We were totally satisfied with the entire experience.

Amazingly good Asian fusion dinner! Definitely recommend making a reservation as they are packed during peak hours. Tonight we had gochujang Mac & cheese with chorizo, Thai mushroom risotto, boneless beef rib lettuce wraps, takoyaki, pan flashed spicy prawns, and wagyu beef gyozas. Their kimchi wasn't too spicy, but delicious still. Add in a KFCaesar drink and it was a great dinner! The service was excellent, and the place wasn't too loud considering it was a full house for dinner rush. The tables turned fairly quickly. We will be back again here next visit to the Island!

5 stars for the food; the service needs some work. We were delighted with most of the food. For starters, that salad with sesame dressing. Delicious, with wonderful ingredients and well balanced. The duck spring rolls are everything you want them to be when highlighted with that excellent sauce. The Korean fried chicken was a kick, and we appreciated the greens it was served with. The short rib for the lettuce cups was tasty, but that dish was the least successful from what we ordered. A mess to eat, dripping all over. Why? We didn't add much of the 3 sauces offered. The mushroom risotto was a really exciting dish. Fabulous flavors, so rich, mushrooms and coconut milk and complimentary spices - amazing. Didn't understand the garnishes though. Why not crispy mushrooms instead? The block fries were great. Crispy thin fries with exciting seasoning and a tasty dipping sauce. Yum. Our server talked extremely quickly and did a poor job aiding us in ordering. And we understand dishes came to the table as they were ready and without coordination of any kind. That resulted in our last 2 dishes [brought to the table at the same time] being risotto and French fries. Just an odd, starchy way to end the meal. I must say however, they were great at removing used dishes from the table.

Everything from beginning to end was absolutely delicious! The service was great, we didn't have any reservations and sat down within 5 minutes at the bar. Our waiter was super nice and recommended us with options since it was our first time there. I highly recommend this place if you're looking for some damn good food and drinks!!!

Stopped in here for a quick Happy Hour on a Wednesday. We had a few drinks and 2 fried chicken dishes. Both were boneless - I think both were thigh pieces. The karaage app had 2 skewers - each piece was well seasoned/marinated, delicious and perfectly fried! The Korean Fried Chicken (KFC) was also perfectly fried - coated with delicious gochujang (Korean red pepper paste) sauce. This was spicy. My teen daughter said it was too spicy for her liking - that's okay! More for us! Great service and beautiful interior! I love their pan Asian menu. Will come back the next time I'm in Victoria!

    Ahi tuna tataki

My family was coming in to Victoria after visiting the butchart gardens and were originally going to eat in Chinatown, but later decided on this place as we walked by it. I'm so glad we did because this is genuinely one of the best restaurants that I've ever eaten at. It's a somewhat upscale yet affordable Asian fusion restaurant. We came on a Thursday evening and were seated right away. Our server was very enthusiastic and when we asked for recommendations, she basically hyped up every single menu item that they had. The lighting is a bit dim inside, and where we were seated, we could see the cooks making all the food in an open kitchen. We ordered the Thai mushroom risotto, ahi tuna tataki, porkbelly risotto, block fries, Takoyaki, red devil calamari, duck spring rolls, and pork belly lettuce wraps. I liked everything we ordered but my favorites were the Thai mushroom risotto, ahi tuna tataki, and red devil calamari. The risotto was topped with shiitake and king oyster mushrooms in a Thai curry with truffle oil. The risotto was smooth and buttery like, the curry had a deep flavor, and there were some lotus root chips that provided some crunch. The tuna was delicate with a slight sear and sesame outer crunch. The calamari was cooked perfectly, it was easy to bite and not chewy. The sauce gave it a little spice. I loved the sauces for both the duck spring rolls and the block fries. We came into this restaurant not expecting much but we were all blown away. This is a must try restaurant in downtown Victoria.

Creative Asian fusion with vibrant vibe. Cool setup with open kitchen and bar. Cool setting nestled amongst allot of the great dining options Unique flavours. Steak frites were perfectly cooked with hangar steak and fries were crispy and not greasy The tuna tanaki is a must have signature dish. Good selection of beers on tap with the local Phillips as feature brewery - solid choices

Tasty food that comes out quickly. Friendly servers. Paid attention to note about special occasion and got a premium spot.

I visited Victoria for the Canada Day long weekend. The weather was fantastic, and I thoroughly enjoyed sightseeing downtown, the Parliament building, Fisherman's Wharf, Chinatown, and more. In the evening, we chose an Asian fusion restaurant that caught my eye while browsing for dinner options. I was impressed by both the menu offerings and the ambiance. What we ordered: Saikoro steak(cube steak). Japanese-style grilled tender steak bites. Grated daikon, chili-ponzu sauce, scallions ***This dish had a solid presentation, and I particularly liked the ponzu sauce. Despite the meat being a bit chewy, I thoroughly enjoyed the overall experience. Karaage skewers,Japanese-style deep fried chicken. Spicy mayo side ***It was slightly overcooked, but meat was still juicy and tender. the spicy Moyo sauce was quite good. Chilled ramen - ,Roast chicken slices, cucumber, carrot, daikon, golden beet, bean curd, edamame, kizami nori, smoked bonito sesame-ginger broth. ***One of my favorite dishes was the sesame ginger-based bonito soup. It could be enjoyed as either Ramen salad or cold soup ramen. I highly recommend trying this dish. Duck spring roll with nan jing sauce,Nam Jim sauce. ***The highlight of the night was the best dish. The Nam Jim sauce, inspired by Southeast Asian cuisine, was a delightful blend of lime, fish sauce, garlic, and chili. The sauce was truly excellent. The duck spring roll was incredibly crispy, and I particularly enjoyed the flavorful duck filling. Matcha cheese cake, Yuzu honey sauce ***The cheesecake wasn't overly sweet. Its texture was creamy and light. While the matcha flavor was a bit subtle, I still enjoyed it, especially when paired with the yuzu honey sauce. Miso creme brûlée. ***I enjoy the Miso Crème Brûlée. The distinct Miso flavor adds a delightful twist, creating a satisfying combination of sweet and a hint of salt. I highly recommend trying this dessert. I really enjoyed the restaurant's vibe and the diverse menu selection. I plan to visit again and explore different dishes on the menu.

    Pork Belly Bao Bun

Tried Block for the first time last night with a friend, and it was fantastic! The cocktails were outstanding--so flavorful and well-crafted. We started with the salmon tartare, which was incredibly fresh, and the seaweed crackers paired with it perfectly. The ambiance was cute, dark, and romantic, with friendly and helpful service to match. The gyozas were amazing, and the pork belly bao bun was a definite highlight. Definitely check out this new spot in downtown Victoria!

Food: The beef tartare was a standout. Easily one of the best bites of the trip and arguably the best tartare I've had, full stop. Thoughtful without being precious. Drinks: Cocktails lean more inspired than perfectly balanced, but that works here. Nothing mind blowing, nothing wrong. A solid B+ across the board. Vibe: Feels like a moody, posh NYC basement bar. Dim lighting, techno and jazz, well dressed 20 and 30 somethings on dates or out for the night. The room does a lot of the heavy lifting, in a good way. What could be better: Cocktails could use a touch more balance and restraint. The ideas are strong, but a bit of dialing in would elevate them from good to great.

The cocktail is good but not quite well balanced, but for CAD$12 it was fine - I guess I see reviews where ironically the cocktails are not their forte despite the appeal of using local ingredients in the cocktails. The signature tater tots is delicious - it's in a square and has a soft interior that can be quite filling - I love the sauce pairing which has a bit of caviar taste apparent while keeping it fairly casual with the ranch sauce. Service is okay - the bartender fulfills requests promptly, but fairly direct in conversation

The main of the flat iron with arugala on the top with fries. They plated it and served it with a slug in it. The slug fell from inside the salad onto the plate . A baby slug. But it was living and moving. What followed was poor response and gaslighting of which this restaurant should be ashamed. In order not to disgust the others I stopped a woman that was working the floor to remove the plate. When I pointed to the slug why gave a small chuckle and half smile and stated, "well, it is farm to table." That is gaslighting. Right there that was a poor response. I see signs saying Michelin on this restaurant, but really...if you had served a slug to a someone rating you for a Michelin, you think you would get that rating? Highly doubtful. It felt very rushed despite there not being many other customers in the area. We were only in the restaurant for about 45 minutes today. The food was mediocre. I had the fried chicken and waffles, which looked good but tasted generic. The fried chicken was a bit dry and just tasted like it was seasoned with salt and pepper and that's about it. The waffle tasted like something anyone could make at home. My friend had the Caesar salad, which was drenched in sauce but otherwise looked alright. Overall, the food is on the pricier side, relative to the portion size being served. Expect to spend at least $30 to be full, not including drinks and dessert.
