I can't speak on authenticity but it was delicious; perfect chew to the rice noodles, a hint of spice, and a hefty amount of meat toppings. The food was really good - we ordered a lemon grass pork bahn mi, fresh rolls with mince pork patties, chicken pho and the special of the day - pork and crab udon soup with quail eggs. Overall the food was good but for the Bahn Mi not a true French baguette and found a bone in the meat and for the special it seemed to have more shrimp than crab. We've been meaning to try more Vietnamese spots in Richmond. Up next was Baoguette Vietnamese Bistro. Their original location is out in Kerrisdale but this one is located in a plaza that houses a few random stores and BBT spots. We dropped in on a Saturday afternoon (around 2:00pm) and most of the tables were occupied. The outside patio looks spacious and perfect for the summertime. Service is quick and efficient although we had to ask to get some tea. At least they came by a few times to see if we wanted refills. The menu is two pages; banh mi, appetizers, pho, specialty noodle soups, rice, vermicelli, desserts and drinks. - Herbs - basil, lettuce, cooked bean sprouts and lime wedges. - Bun bo hue (#29) ($12.95) - their BBH came with beef slices, pork hock, chicken balls, onion and red cabbage. No pork blood though. Broth was interesting; clean tasting but flavours are very subtle. Didn't get much lemongrass notes. Good amount of meat. Always appreciate when things are homemade (chicken balls) and the in-bone pork hock was great. - Bun rieu (#31) ($13.50) - came with crab meat, fish cakes, tofu puffs, tomato and onion. Initial smell of the broth was very tomatoey but taste wise, again, very clean. More noodles in this bowl than the BBH. The best thing was the crab meat; two solid chunks of tasty crab goodness. This is our 2nd time here at Baoguette Vietnamese Bistro in Richmond. The tables are quite distanced and the restaurant feels clean and bright. They still provide a menu so we sanitized our hands after we ordered and returned the menu. My hubby loves the beef stew. The first time he had it he couldn't stop raving about the flavourful soup and super tender beef. He ordered it again and he said it's still even better. I had pho with rare beef and brisket. The soup is very good and rich. I order size small and it's perfect size for me. The salad roll was really good. I like the crunch of the vegetables and the softness of vermicelli and shrimp. One of my favourite Vietnamese places in the city! The owner Jack & his staff are always friendly, and their sandwiches are some of the best I've ever had. The spicy beef & the grilled chicken or pork sandwiches are fantastic. I also recommended the salad rolls here, unlike most places they are filled with mostly veggies & meat, and not filler noodles. The peanut dipping sauce with them is absolutely mouthwatering. Some of the best bun rieu I've ever had in Vancouver is from Baoguette Bistro! This is a pretty bold statement to make and I say it with confidence. It's probably just as good (or maybe even better) than the one that my mom makes. If you've never been to Baoguette before I definitely recommend it just to try their bun rieu. I've been craving this ever since I had it in the summer and I'm so happy that I got to eat this again. This time it was even better because in the summer we had that insane heat wave and eating hot noodle soup isn't exactly the best meal to eat in that kind of weather condition. BUN RIEU Their broth is extremely immaculate and unbeatable. Waayy better than most bun rieu places in Vancouver since most places' broths aren't as flavourful with the crab and tomato elements not being as strong. This one is different because you can taste both the crab and tomato soo much. They also load up their toppings and the portions overall are huge. Their crab meatballs are HUGE, so soft and has so much delicious crab and flavour. Definitely my go-to place for bun rieu and I highly recommend. Decent Vietnamese restaurants in Richmond are few and far between, and Baoguette is among the better rated ones. The location is quite central and the parking lot is fairly large but somehow is always a bit of a gong show despite only 3-4 businesses being open at night. We tried their spring rolls and pho dac biet. I found their broth to be on the lighter and more aromatic side. Decent but didn't wow me. The Cha Gio spring rolls are a bit more unique and you get a decent amount for the money. We also tried their House Special Baoguette which I thought was really well balanced. The bread is nothing special but it's a great sandwich nonetheless. All in all, not the most impressive but a good spot for a quick bite/work lunch. Was craving pho and found Baoguette! I am very happy to have another Vietnamese option in Richmond. First thing we noticed it was clean, spacious (Of course COVID spacing) and the furniture was quite nice, unfortunately forgot to take a photo. Staff were wearing masks and they used paper menus. To the food, we shared a Lemongrass Chicken salad roll to share and I ordered the Pho and my friend ordered the grilled beef, which ended to be short ribs..nice. The salad roll arrived first, the rolls were big, stuffed with large pieces of flavorful chicken and they didn't skimp on it, it was really good and fresh. I ordered a large bowl of pho (18). It didn't look like a large, however the quantity of meat, noodles and soup was plentiful. The soup had nice beef flavor, tasted deeper but it was still nice. The grilled beef as mentioned above came as short ribs. It also had a fried egg and for 11.50 compared to the amount of ribs they provided, great deal. It was well grilled and not dried. I've honestly been having a hard time finding a good Vietnamese place in Richmond. The food here was about average, but the pho wasn't great, so I have to give it a little lower than average. The noodles were overcooked, and the soup isn't as flavourful as other places I've been. I also tried the steam rice rolls which weren't bad. Those are more difficult to come across, so it was a nice surprise to see them as a special. The rice roll part could have been thinner and smoother, but not bad. The Vietnamese stew noodles were also overcooked, and the brisket wasn't tender. The spring rolls were crispy and flavourful but they must have been fried in older oil because they were quite dark. The soups also tend to be quite greasy/oily, especially the one that comes with the dry noodle. The service was about what you expect at a casual Vietnamese place, and it was generally clean. All in all, I'd rather make the trek to Vancouver for some good Vietnamese food. read more

Back again in YVR and had to make a stop at Baogette! Ordered the usual vermicelli rice bowl with grilled pork. Because I live to live dangerously I added shrimp instead of the usual spring rolls. Consistency is the key to the success of any restaurant and this dish is exactly how I remembered it from my previous visit. The vermicelli and veggies have a great crunch and freshness to it, but it's that grilled pork that keeps me coming back each and every time! Located in a strip mall across from Canadian superstore, this mall in Richmond have some interesting eats :) This mall have plentiful parking with vary large parking spots. Craving some Vietnamese food so landed in this little restaurant, easily spotted while driving on No.3 road so we went in for a quick bite. The store is bright and clean, hand sanitizer is located upon walking in and seating is quite spaced out but not much other COVID prevention seem to take place. Ordered a bowl of noodle (House Special) as well Lemongrass pork bao and finish the meal with a coconut slush. House special pho is up first, first sip you will notice the broth have a very sharp flavor, lightly colored and distinctively different from most broth elsewhere. Noodles were cooked just right with good chew (al dente!) but the meat is what imperfect this bowl of pho. The beef in this pho is chewy, and tasted dry and stale. Moving on is the lemongrass bao, the bun itself is great, like a good baguette, it's crispy on the outside with a soft chewy inside. Veggies in the bao is fresh but once again, the pork is not coming thru when you take a bit. The pork is weakly marinated so you can taste the lemongrass, and the balance of meat and veggie is off. You can only taste the vegetables but not the meat itself. Pork is somewhat tender and it's better than the beef in the pho. Lastly, I finish the meal with the coconut slush! I would order this again anytime and I normally would not order coconut anything. The slush is made with coconut water, blended with coconut shreds. Textured like a slurpee, sweet but it's not overly sweet or taste artificial. While this drink is refreshing. For $5.25, I say this is a great deal as it is also decently sized. This restaurant is in the mid range for pho in Richmond, friendly attentive service but nothing to lose if you don't come to try. We've eaten here a few times during the pandemic and now that things have relaxed a bit we've been there more often. They were diligent regarding sanitizing and distance maintenance during the pandemic and tables are still quite widely spaced. We love the food here. There is very little MSG in their dishes and if you are at all sensitive to that chemical you will appreciate what this means. Their bao (sandwiches) are excellent! Fabulous bread and innovative fillings. A great lunch meal by itself. They have a wide variety of pho and all are really tasty. The vermicelli dishes are excellent as are the salads. You might have a slight wait for your order as everything is made fresh and "homemade" in quality. Service is very good although it is a small shop so often the single service is pretty busy. We stopped by for lunch at 1:30 pm over the weekend. We were seated right away. We ordered a number of items after looking over the menu. Mango slush was not available so we ordered coconut slush instead. Coconut slush was made with real coconut. It was pretty good for slush. The Vietnamese French ice coffee with condensed milk tasted as expected - strong coffee with the condensed milk sweetness. The special beef noodle soup portion was small for the price. The broth was flavourful without being greasy. Noodles had a good chew. There was not much beef toppings. I was surprised the restaurant did not have beef tendon as a topping on its menu. I expected most Richmond Vietnamese restaurants to have all the common beef toppings. The deep fried spring roll was made well with a good mix of veggies, noodles and pork. My only complaint with the spring roll is that I prefer spring rolls made with rice paper wrapper over the wheat wrapper. The house special banh mi was also made well. I wish there was some jalapeño slices to make it spicy. I asked for hot sauce which was provided on request. You have to ask for condiments as it is not offered after food is dropped off (ie hot sauce or hoisin sauce). The pho garnish did not include jalapeño slices which is commonly provided at other Vietnamese restaurants. Tea/water was never offered or dropped off at our table. I think the person working on the floor just missed that in between cleaning tables. Covid precautions were in place. Staff wore face masks. There was hand sanitizer at the front. Contact information was collected for tracing purposes. Staff wiped down tables and chairs between customers. However, I saw the same staff member wear the same pair of gloves to clear off dirty dishes, clean tables and chairs, and picked up food from the kitchen area to drop off at customers' tables. It was not clean or hygienic anymore while watching the person work. He also used the same cloth to wipe the seats people sat on first and then use the same cloth to wipe the tables afterwards. I ordered the Fishcake Noodle soup and asked the server on the phone if it was non-spicy, because I have a family member who is allergic to spices (black pepper, spice seasonings). I made sure to tell the lady on the phone about the allergy. The lady on the phone assured me it was non-spicy. However, when my family member ate it, her tongue started to tingle within minutes so I grabbed her a Benedryl to fight off the allergy reaction. I ate the Noodle soup and noticed that the fish cakes themselves contained spices (so they are a mildly spicy fish cake). Just a note to anyone else who has an allergy to any spicy seasonings, don't order the Fishcake noodle soup. 5 stars for the delicious noodle soup that I ate instead, but I knocked down 2 stars since the server did not tell me the correct information and if my family member's allergy was fatal, it would have been a tragic story. Luckily, my family member only gets tongue tingling and slight swelling in her tongue and lips if she ingests spices or peppers. Unfortunately, there isnt a zero star option. We hadn't been to Baoguette since pre covid19. We really enjoyed the food and service then so was looking forward to eating there after so long. When we ordered, I asked server to substitute the pork spring roll for a vegetarian one as we don't eat pork. So our spicy lemongrass beef pho arrives and we find a big pork hock in it! I asked the server why there was a pork hock in the soup as it is not listed in menu description - all she said is "Oh sorry"! No offer to replace it with another item. Nothing! She already knew we didn't eat pork so why didn't she tell us about the pork hock when we ordered the soup. We didnt eat it and left the full bowl and paid for it. My mom ordered the lemongrass chicken and the coating was way too sweet. We will not go back again. Sooo disappointed! Based on our recent experience and other reviews, the staff need some serious customer service knowledge and training! read more
