It's mostly for rich people that want to fly directly into Connecticut without dealing with the Bostons and the New Yorks and the New Jerseys of the world. The car rental agency here got me what I needed but there were issues. I would give this cute little airport a four star, especially as everybody left me alone to do with my business which I appreciated.

After a long travel day, dragging luggage that distance is definitely not ideal, so be prepared for a serious walk if you're renting a vehicle. Also... no Starbucks? Absolutely wild. For an airport, that honestly feels unbelievable. Sometimes travelers just want something familiar, quick, and dependable before or after a flight, and not having one was definitely noticed. The airport itself is currently under construction in some areas, but that had nothing to do with the rental car location or the lack of a Starbucks. Those were simply the biggest inconveniences of the experience for me personally. Other than that, the airport experience was decent enough, but definitely wear comfortable shoes and plan accordingly if you're renting a car.

The ride-share section is confusing to get to. Other than that, Logan did what it needed to do. Got us there, got us back, saved me money AND gave me extra time with my kid. Would I use Logan again instead of JFK, Newark or any NY airport? Yup! Especially if it's saving me $273!

FBO didn't seem to be always manned due to their other operations; they officially close at 4 local. If using 34, the turnoff for parking comes quickly, so expect you'll have to turn around on the runway; make sure you make the appropriate radio call!

They are great hosts for our annual cousin gathering and we try to come every year. They pick us up as soon as we have appeared at the airport exit. This year we added an additional side trip to the gathering. At the conclusion of the cousin visit, we picked up our rental car and headed to Cape Cod, with a stop in Narraganset on the way. After we returned from the Cape for our fight home, it was so efficiently directed by my Apple maps route that we arrived, turned in the rental car in about 3 minutes and were left with several hours to kill. It's a good airport for that. There is plenty of food and entertainment and incredibly fast TSA security. There was even a pianist in the food court area. We enjoyed a meal, listened to his music, and leisurely went out to our gate area. That gate area had the only quick serve ice cream we found and it pleased my husband to get this treat. Smaller airports have a lot of advantages as long as you can still make your trip with a non-stop route like we did. It was relaxing with the extra time and we were able to get everything we needed in a modern, clean, easy-to-navigate terminal.

I fell in love with the beautiful wood benches at the airport from Green Furniture Concept. The only thing that took a while was getting our rental car when we first arrived. This little airport is 'out of the way' and used for private/chartered flights…read more It is also home to Mrs. Potato head! All dolled up in her bikini, sun glasses and flip flops, she welcomes travelers arriving at the airport. We found out about Mrs. Potato Head through a listing on Roadside America. It took a bit to find the lovely lady who was gloriously ensconced on the arrivals/flight line side of the terminal. The terminal itself is small, with a check in desk at one side and several seats in the waiting area. The terminal is glass on both the back and front making it a sunny, open space. We parked in the 'drop off' area as we would only be a moment, and let the staff know we wanted to check out their Mrs. Potato Head, and they happily allowed us to pass through. This particular Potato Head is very festive, like a day of fun at the beach and the airport, if you have a need to charter a flight, may be a nice option to meet your needs. Go check them both out.

Picturesque airport about five miles from main town of Montauk…read more I think it's privately owned and unfortunately there is a steep-ish $25 landing fee. The beach is right across the street from the field though (walkable and the friendly people working here might even be able to give you a lift). No instrument approaches or fuel and the strip is on the shorter side (2500ft or so) so triple checking your landing distances on hot days. Hard to beat the beauty of a beach across the street though so it's worth a visit!

It was so much more hassle-free than Logan at that time. Even though Logan has improved a bit as far as terminating and originating accessibility, ORH is still my port of choice if I am working west of Boston. This small 6-gate airport has sometimes struggled to maintain regular passenger service. But Delta (NY LGA), American (PHL) and JetBlue (3 FL destinations) currently operate out of here, and hopefully it continues to maintain at least minimum viability. The airport served just shy of 230K passengers in 2024. Another reason I like this airport beyond the huge advantage of hassle-free travel is the fact that it is small and easily navigable. It allows easy check-in and security clearance with TSA people who are actually pleasant to interact with. The downsides to that, of course, are that there are far fewer amenities at this airport and far fewer flight options. However, the size of this airport means that I can arrive for my flight with far less time buffer compared to a large airport like BOS. In that case, the amenities become less important. There is a convenience store/food bar behind security where you can grab a coffee, soda or snack. That's all you really need at a place like this. It's also a pleasant, clean and modern facility. The facade is fairly attractive and the interior is quite nice. If I read correctly, I don't think this is the same building I used in the 90s when I first flew into this airport. But I was impressed with the facade even then given the size of the airport. With regard to logistics, I do have to connect to get to ORH. As a Delta afficianado who uses Detroit as my home airport, I always have an intermediary stop at NY LaGuardia. But given the advantages I experience on the other end, usually it's worth it. There are rental car facilities at ORH and it offers easy get-away (and return, as previously noted). However, my last trip revealed the negative aspect of this as we flew from LaGuardia all the way to the Worcester area and they would not let the plane land due to low visibility (I understand that fog is not an infrequent problem here). We turned around going back to LGA. The flight was canceled and I ended up having to re-book to Logan and driving to Worcester (fortunately late at night with no traffic...tip in case this happens to you: if I had it to do over, I would have flown to Providence instead). This was not a positive experience. But in the grand scheme of things, this is the classic case of a "first-world problem". I keep it in perspective. While overall I am a big fan of this airport with the caveats already noted, there is one infrastructure gripe that I have. Most airports, even small ones, are generally easily accessible via a major thoroughfare (a highway of some sort). This one and Lansing (Michigan) are the only two that I have used which I would classify as out-of-the-way. It seems like it requires a long drive through traffic-light controlled roads and Massachusetts traffic (some of the worst in country due to populaton density). There is a bus to the city that is at the airport hourly between 1:15 PM and 6:15 PM, but that does not make up for it. Beyond this one primary complaint, however, I view this airport as a very nice alternative to the crowded mega options. I wish it a long and happy business viability with prosperity and growth (not too much!). It serves an important purpose and I hope it continues to do so. Let's hope airlines continue to view this with general perspective and less ivory-towered, cold and calculated finance perspective that is often far too narrow. Sometimes, bean counters need to remember that Main St. can be more important than Wall St.

There are trips you take with a boarding pass, and trips you take with a headset and a controller…read more Our run into Block Island Airport in 2024 managed to sit right in the middle of both worlds, blurring the lines until it barely mattered whether we were actually there or just cruising above the digital Atlantic in Flight Simulator 24. The approach was classic Block Island: a little dramatic, a little beautiful, a little "who approved building a runway here?" Even in the sim, the coastline hits you with that New England melancholy that makes you wonder why you don't live your whole life near the ocean. Touchdown was smooth enough that, for a second, we all forgot we were sitting in living rooms with snacks instead of oil-stained airfields with stories. But honestly? The atmosphere pulled us in anyway. Block Island Airport doesn't need to try. It just exists in that charming, scruffy way small airports do--real or virtual. And then there was the diner. In real life, Bethany's Airport Diner--now renamed Ellen's--still holds the same soul. Different name, same vibe. And the food? Exactly the kind of no-nonsense comfort you hope for when you wander into an island airport hungry and sunburned. Eggs, toast, coffee that wakes you up without asking permission... the kind of meal that tastes honest. Even in the sim, we joked about stopping in like we could actually smell the griddle. That's how you know a place is good: when it sticks with you in worlds where it technically doesn't exist. Our little crew parked our digital planes, snapped too many screenshots, and soaked in the weirdly perfect blend of nostalgia and adventure. For a moment, we weren't teachers, pilots, gamers, or whatever titles life sticks us with. We were travelers. Block Island Airport does that to you--whether your wheels leave the ground or not.
