I'm in the area once per year for the Newport Folk Festival, and staying in Mystic the night before is much cheaper, so last year we made a point to stop into Mystified to play their Paradox room. We enjoyed it so much that we went to dinner and came back to play the Cabaret room after. We had a great time talking to Maxx and Clarabelle afterward about room design, puzzles, strategies, and other nerdy and technical things, and planned to come back this summer for the Mystic's Ritual room. We were thrilled to learn that both game masters were still working there, had been heavily involved in the new room design, and were just as happy to talk about the process and show us some of the inner workings. We deliberately booked the last time slot of the evening so we'd have time to chat, and it was a delightful experience all around. The rooms themselves are a good mix of logic, wordplay, and searching for connections, with some simple locks and some Arduino technology thrown in. The space is used to good effect and the designs are immersive. If you're a hardcore escape room enthusiast, you might find some things to complain about: a couple of elements that are broken are replaced with temporary fixes that aren't as cool as the intended ones; some of the tech is finicky; the challenge level doesn't really go above a 6 or 7 out of 10. But it's a lot of fun, and the people are excellent. Looking forward to coming back next year for their new room! read more

I went for a birthday party this afternoon and when we got there the group was standing outside. There was an issue with someone arriving late so I went in to check if there was anything we could do to accommodate the situation. The woman at the front desk rudely told me that I'm not supposed to be standing inside, even though I had a specific question to ask her. I apologized and told her I didn't know we were supposed to stand outside and she rudely told me that the rest of my group should have told me this. She definitely could have said this in a much nicer way, especially since she still felt the need to be rude to me as I was actively complying with her direction. It made the entire experience start off in the wrong foot for me. The girl who explained the process and helped us once we got started was very pleasant and nice and the room was quite fun. read more

We did the Paradox room with 8 other people, was a little crowded. We made it to the last room but needed a good 30 minutes more to solve all the puzzles in there. There are just too many! Also some of them were very challenging and once they explained them to us I don't think we could have solved it. Some of the explanations for the clues were just not helpful, too vague. The staff were super friendly and explained things thoroughly especially when you used a clue, they made sure you got it right and moved on to the part. read more

I took my family of 9, and when half of us arrived, one person asked to use the restroom, to which she was denied! ( they didn't want cross contamination....youve got to be kidding me) We had to wait outside, and it was demanded we all wear a mask, which I don't understand why, we never came in contact with anyone, personally they should re think that requirement. The women behind the desk was a rude, and made my first impression a bit upsetting! If you work in a position where you will be dealing with the public, then put someone in that position who is friendly, kind, warm hearted.....our woman was not! The room itself, and experience with in the room was fun but unfortunately first impression mean the most, not sure I would go back to this location, the owner needs to rethink who they have a welcome desk, and get rid of mask requirement read more

We had a great time here when we went back in April. The place is well kept and the people who run it are passionate about their work. You can book online and join a group of strangers or opt to have your own private group go. There are several different puzzles to choose from and rotate out so you can always go back and try new ones every few months. At the end you can take a fun picture with their goofy hats when you solve your puzzle. A great alternative to your usual weekend activities. read more

Soooo here's the thing.... The room had good puzzles. They went together well, had a good flow, and offered a good level of challenge. It was involved & the ambiance was good. HOWEVER, I went with a group of 5 and we were paired up with another group of 4--awful experience. For a activity that involves teamwork and communication, you should not have to be with another group of strangers. It undermines the experience. Plus, the is first room we were in for our challenge was a small room so it was not comfortable. Way too crowded (plus our co-escaping people were bossy & kinda rude which made it worse). Considering it's $30 per person, I should be able to play the puzzle I paid for. I would not go back here again unless it was guaranteed that it would just be my group. Disclaimer: if you had 2 people or wanted to go alone, then I get being paired with another group of 3 or 4 makes sense, but 5 people is enough as a stand alone group. Came here on a date last Friday night and wasn't sure what to expect because I had never done an escape room before. My date had booked it online. We had anticipated being in a group and arrived to find it was just us. I joked that this could make or break us as a couple and our game master told us a story about how a girl had walked out and drove off without her date one time. The staff working was friendly, helpful and informative about how everything worked. I felt that we were given clear instructions on the rules and how to play. We were brought into the room that my date had picked given the backstory and began. I absolutely loved that they had a room that was themed around the historic and famously haunted New London Ledge Light Lighthouse! It was the beginner room but was still challenging enough that we needed two hints. When we did call for hints our game master came quickly and gave us our hints. My husband, children and I went last night in celebration of my husband'a birthday. None of us had ever been to an escape room and only had a small idea of what to expect and my daughter and husband were very skeptical about going. When we went into the first room I became skeptical. It was almost an empty room. Soon enough we were fully immersed and engaged in the game. My children were competing to be the ones to find, understand and solve the clues and open the different locks. The young man who was our guide was very engaging and fun and helpful. He gave us just enough support when we needed clues. Only two complaints. It was very dim which makes it very difficult to see for old ladies like me so while they do provide a flashlight you may want one for everyone in the party or use your phone's flashlight. Also they are still way over the top with masks and 6 feet and not coming into the building until they call you in. It makes for a very unwelcoming entry and feel and the guides lose a LOT of the mystique in masks. read more

What a great place! The steampunk vibe, the well-decorated rooms with great ambience, and the great Covid-era safety precautions to keep everybody safe. Well done all around. My two teens and I did the Ledge Lighthouse room and we were a little worried because it was billed as their beginner room. We were very pleasantly surprised by the level of difficulty and felt happily challenged to escape. While there, our play was interrupted by the game master to inform us a fire alarm was going off at a neighboring business in case we heard the alarm (we did). We continued to play and our game master graciously radioed on the walkie talkie to let us know when our clock hit zero that he was giving us a couple of extra minutes since he had to interrupt our game play. It was exactly the two minutes we needed to finish the last clue and escape the room! It was a great time, very enjoyable, the game master and the front desk lady were super nice and the place was very well run. We were told that the other rooms were better with more people because of the amount of puzzles in them, so there's that. One suggestion I would give is to provide as many flashlights as there are people in the room? Or at least more than two flashlights? Unless having to share flashlights is part of the game cooperation. It was kind of a pain when one of us could not see well at all times since there were only two flashlights and the lights were very low. Super minor and not something to subtract stars for at all. But the ambience was great, the puzzles were very interesting and creative and the staff excellent. We would definitely recommend. read more

My husband and I went here on a Saturday early evening for a date night. Looking for something different to do besides just a movie and dinner. I'm glad we did this and had our first Escape Room experience at Mystified! We booked the Rendezvous the Renaissance game and Adeline (sorry spelling) our guide who was awesome! She explained the game very thoroughly and probably gave us more hints than allowed. We had the game all to ourselves, which we were happy at first, but then later we wished we had other players help and insights to solve the puzzle. We didn't make it out but had a blast doing it! We made reservations in advance and the owner decided to close that day due to a snow storm. Been here twice for two different escape rooms. Price is a little steep for what you get. $20 would be much more reasonable. Puzzles are varied, although there are too many combination lock puzzles as compared to the others. The staff are generally courteous and respectful. You get three hints per session and one hour to get out. Good atmosphere and decor for the rooms. Only escape room business I've patronized so I don't have a great frame of reference for how it compares to others. read more

What an amazing time was had by all! This place was great and if you haven't experienced it I suggest you do. This was my first time in a mystery room game but my friends has done it before. Even my friend exclaimed how much more entertaining Mystified was than our Mystery Room back home because it doesn't just take place in one room. There are actually multiple rooms of puzzles. You are greeted by a wonderful character who walks you through the rules. He was amazingly friendly and helpful. Definitely an asset to the business. We were then escorted into our first room to solve multiple puzzles with the goal of working ourselves to the very last room. We had two 11 year old and a 14 year old with us who had a blast. It was a great team building skill that made us all think outside the box. Loved loved loved it. Will definitely do it again! I had a blast here for my birthday! Each room can have up to 10 people; we ended up with 9 in our group, so it was just us. If you have a smaller group, you may be put together with strangers. Honestly, that's a good thing, as it will be harder with fewer people. If you really can't stand the thought of working together with strangers, you can book the whole room. In our group of 9, everyone contributed and helped solve the puzzles. We were excited to complete the room, and even more excited when we were told that we'd set the new time record for the 20,000 Leagues room! I recommend hopping across the street to Jealous Monk for food and drinks afterward. read more

I booked these tickets for 8 of us, chosing the Paradox room because it sounded fun. The website is very informative, and the purchasing in advance was so easy! The night before our scheduled visit they called to tell me that they were having issues with the room, but expected it to be back up and running in time. They just wanted to let me know that they would offer us another room if the issues continued. When we arrived we were greeted by a woman at the desk, who immediately gave us punch cards to earn free visits. All of the employees were dressed as characters, and there were pictures and explanations on the walls. Everyone was extremely friendly and you could tell they enjoyed their jobs. Our game master was very thorough, and explained the whole process, she also told us that only about 30% of people finished the room we chose. We did use our 3 hints, and technically got out of the room BUT that was because someone left the door unlocked. We actually didnt finish 2 of the final tasks before our hour ran out, but did way better than we had expected. The room was actually 3 rooms, and offered excellent challenges, especially for 8 people in a 10 person room. Her advice prior, and during was obviously key to our success! The woman at the front desk asked how we did and how we felt about the room, which was cool. When we got outside we couldn't start our borrowed vehicle (on a Sunday!). The employees were FABULOUS. One gave us jumper cables, our game master came out and used her truck to try to jump us, and helped to try to figure out the problem, as well as giving us numbers to try to call. The 3 employees constantly checked on us and offered us phones, computers, drinks and kind words. In the end a gentleman shopping next door stopped and got us all fixed and on our way. We would've left a great review either way because the staff was top notch, and the room was so fun and challenging but we also felt the need to let everyone know that these guys definitely left a lasting impression!! I've done a handful of these escape rooms and this one was the best in my opinion. A really great steampunk theme. Our game guide was the man; funny, helped us get into the theme and helpful with hints. Subtle things like music playing and nautical theme made our 20k league escape awesome. I think to make it even more interesting you could add a little fog and crew chatter rather in the first room to set the mood right off the bat. But that's my imagination running wild. read more
