We did this as a NYE family activity and Lisa & Alex were amazing. We interacted personally with Lisa, she really helped set the scene, give us plenty of information, and also made us feel like we weren't losers for not escaping the room (haha). Really enjoyed the Houdini room. Though I am biased when we set a record! 4 people in 49 minutes. Second fastest ever. Love it. They made it a 75 min room, saying because of all the reading. Not sure what people were reading lol nothing was more than 3/4 lines. I think 75 is good if you're not skilled but any team that does these weekly, like No Clues, it's a typical 60 min. Little spooky! But no jump scares so totally ok for the people afraid! Reminded me of Mass Escapes Lane room. Good decor in this room. Realistic. We did have to ask for a clue one time which was a little unsettling for us but it's ok! When we realized what we missed we kicked ourselves but def can be done without any clues. Family was here for the holidays and a few of them had done escape rooms before and half of us haven't. I had done a puzzle room though. It took a few minutes to get used to, but was super fun. Def a little bit of braining for everyone. The game master stays in the room, which def makes asking for your hint easier than the puzzle room i went to, so although others think it's awkward, i kind of liked that! TL;DR it's a blast and you dont need to know anything about sherlock holmes before taking on the escape room. Take the elevator to 4th floor and mentally prepare yourself for the shortest hour of your life. At the end of this review I will add a couple of spoiler free tips to assist any newbies who want to give escape rooms a shot. Staff are extremely friendly, I went with my friend and her son for her 50th birthday. The staff made sure to say happy birthday when we came in. When we made it into the room the guide/room attendant let us know the rules efficiently and offered a few suggestions to our newest escape room group member. Helpful throughout the entire escape with tips on obvious answers as we were overthinking everything. We did sherlock Holmes's Library, the room itself was great! Fun and challenging puzzles. As there were only 3 of us in our room we had a tough time with some of the more complicated puzzles but our guide was extremely helpful! Okay, on to the tips... First thing, you dont need any outside knowledge to escape. By this I mean that all of the clues to escape are in the room. You wont be using any obscure sherlock Holmes reference from a long forgotten story written decades ago. Check everywhere that isnt nailed down. I mean everywhere, underneath things lift up rugs, pull out drawers, look inside lampshades. There are clues in every conceivable spot. Lastly, communicate. If you find something yell it out. Let everyone know that you found a clue and say how many clues you have total. This will let everyone who isnt still looking for clues assist with puzzle solving. Additionally dont stop to try and figure out the puzzles every time you find a clue, find almost all of the clues first. At that point start to solve. read more

My team and I have done a number of escape rooms throughout Rhode Island and in other states as well, so consider ourselves pretty well versed in this arena. The experience we had at The Great Escape Room was so bad that upon leaving we immediately sought out another escape room business to wash the bad taste out of our mouths. First off, the rules of the game were explained to us while in the room. This should not be the case, as we had the chance to look around and essentially glean more time; we tried our best to avert our eyes because we were only supposed to have 1 hour to escape, not 1 hour plus 5-10 minutes. We take this stuff seriously! The biggest complaint was that an (unenthused and unprofessional) employee stayed in the room with us for the entire hour. This was the first time we experienced this, and it was horrible. Not only was the employee walking around and getting in our way - I had to tell him twice to move because he was blocking areas we needed to investigate - but he was clearly bored and tried to have unrelated conversations with us, which was extremely distracting. To top if all off, he starting cleaning one of the rooms *before we even finished with it*. I am assuming to help him leave work earlier. This was unprofessional, misleading (why would you clean a room if there are still clues left to be found?!?!), and messed up our entire organizational system, which cost us precious time. He also moved around some of the clues we purposely placed in a specific location, or told us to stop moving things in certain ways (we were causing no harm and the items were involved in the game, so one would assume you could touch and move them). Not cool. This same employee did not inform us about our remaining time... which he was supposed to do. He would only say things like "you've got time" or "don't worry, you're fine". In addition, when we asked for a clue, the response was cryptic and no help at all. Instead, when he saw we were stuck, the employee started jumping in our conversations and tried to "help" us solve the clues by shouting out answers to some riddles; this is not what we asked for and not desirable in any way, shape, or form. Finally, the waivers were not loading and the employee lost the photo he had taken of us. We were so displeased with the experience we told him not to bother taking another one... we wanted no record of having been there. I don't really have anything positive to say here, except that maybe the facility was clean (albeit one of the bathroom faucets was broken and leaking). My team and I are avid escape room participants, and we are all about having more opportunities to escape, but we will definitely not be returning to this venue. It is a shame since it is in such a central location. That being said, I would recommend this to no one who wants an actual escape room experience. Go to places like Lock and Clue and RI Riddle Room if you want the real deal. read more

It was scaffolded enough so that we as a team were guided enough to understand what was going on. The two workers were extremely welcoming, helpful and most importantly fun! The location is a little difficult to find but it is located next to a men's clothing store. Parking is scarce, so I suggest Ubering. Once you get in, go up to the fourth floor. It is SO much fun! We did the Sherlock Holmes room for a Bachelorette Party activity. Our guide Joey was super personable and helpful and really funny. We had a blast; the time flew by and it was a great bonding activity for all of us. This wasn't the first escape room that I've been to, but I definitely think this one was ten times more fun. The decision to do this escape the room challenge was such a spontaneous thing but I am so happy that we did it! We were just walking around in downtown providence after coffee and saw their sign out front. We checked out their website to see if anyone was booked and turns out no one was! I do think they are super popular and sold out on most nights/rooms but we went in for the last slot of the night. When we walked in with no appointment, we were welcomed by the enthusiastic receptionist who turned out to also be our game master! One unique thing about this place is that the game master is INSIDE the room the entire time. I found this to be very helpful as she was able to catch things and offer hints that was much more appropriate to the situation than if she was watching us through the camera. We were worried because we were a group of two but it turned out to be a blast! The more clues and puzzles I solved the more mind blown I was in how clever the room was set up. It was so much fun, engaging, and fulfilling because it was the two of us. We escaped with 42 seconds left! After we were done, they showed us the various signs and sherlock items that you can wear or hold for the picture! How cute! Overall, I had an amazing time here and I'll be back with more friends to crack the other rooms too! read more

First, we got to toss a room looking for clues. This, in & of itself, was totally fun. Especially since we didn't have to clean it up - thank you to the staff for this! Finding the clues was fun & solving the puzzles hard! Second, the 60 minutes went by super fast. It was rather unbelievable. We were a group of three - and it did take us a little extra time. Since no one was waiting, we were allowed to finish. Third, Amanda, our host, was awesome. She keeps such a straight face! She absolutely contributed to the fun with her jokes when we tried to get clues out of her. Totally fun way to spend part of the day. Had a great experience here. Booking was easy, the employees were friendly and helpful, and the Escape Room was a blast. Due to herding a large bachelorette party we were about 10 minutes late, but they were super understanding and accommodating. During our escape room the employee in the room with us gave us just enough guidance to help keep us moving along, which was appreciated. I've been to escape rooms before where they give you very minimal guidance and if you're at a standstill it becomes frustrating. When my group of 4 adults attended on Saturday, we were matched with 6 other participants. For Sherlock's Library, I am very grateful for the manpower of a team of 10, it was definitely needed!
