Lively restaurant slash cafe in Lucerne. For the restaurant side they will seat you, while the cafe side you seat yourself to order pastries and coffee. I had a latte macchiato, which was quite good. It came with a small chocolate that I wasn't sure whether I was supposed to put in my coffee or not. There was an ice cream menu of course. Maybe I'll go back and try it. We weren't greeted at all but the owner and friends stood around talking and laughing. It was strange how annoyed they were to hVe customers. They closed early, basically told us to pay before finishing eating even though there was a hour left to close. Lastly, I just need to say there are so many countless cafes we could have visited so this was underwhelming menu and cake wise. It wS all dry and not fresh. Pickled vegetables are tacky decor. I had to average the two flavors I had. The apricot was fabulous- one of the best ice creams I've had, the plum was so bad I threw it away. Hence the 2 stars. Had I just had the apricot, I would have given 5. The apricot was jammy in the nose- like the best apricot jam you've ever eaten. The plum was kind of sickeningly sweet, and didn't taste like plums at all. In fact, I made my husband taste it (that's what they're there for, right? Personal tasters)- and he didn't like it either. The server (at Cafe Caesar) was not very friendly- but that doesn't really matter. What matters is the ice cream, and at 7 francs for 2 small scoops, it felt like a rip off. read more

There are 2 areas to this restaurant. What you first see if more the cafe area, where they serve drinks, light fare/tapas, and importantly the dessert!!! We went for dinner, and I had the Chikaria rösti which is chicken with a mushroom cream sauce served with rösti (essentially a very crisp and golden hash brown pancake). Service was very friendly and good, but I found the food extremely salty. In addition- I found it strange that I didn't find their infamous icecream on their menu (at least the English menu). The ambiance of the place was a little nicer than Panera- which isn't a bad thing for the cafe area but for the "restaurant" seating area could have been better. Overall it was a solid 3.5 read more

Super cool place near the giant church in old town, they have more than ice cream, so take a look around. During Fastnacht, they also had a live band that played, and entertained us with Guggenmusik while we ate! The ice cream is definitely good, the name says it all. But the food is just as great. Heart shaped beef tartar looks nice but challenging since it appears to be pretty raw. The Corteza "don't call me pizza" is surprisingly good, a must have apart from the Movenpick ice cream. However, the service reminds me of quick service restaurant but in a full service restaurant setting and price tag. The food deserves +4 stars, service fall behind with -2 stars, hence 3 stars for this review. read more

Here is why I loved this place... - coming from America, definitely had a neighborhood diner feel -- which I loved. - there is an area to have coffee and/or a glass of wine without feeling the pressure to order more and there is an area for proper meals - pizzas a quite large and good - worth the 20 francs - the tandoori chicken salad with balsamic dressing was amazing *going back for more - yummy* Why 4 stars? - It was more expensive than I thought it would be and for the type of food - The wait staff was not as friendly, seemed annoyed most of the time. Had high expectations so maybe that was my first mistake. Only went for dessert as we had just had fondue & rosti elsewhere. I enjoyed my 2 scoops (chocolate and maple walnut) husband didn't like his at all. Didn't even finish them (unusual for him, Ice cream addict!). The server is racist here. I arrived here at 9PM and he told us with rude attitude that they don't serve dinner anymore and asked us to leave. Passed by after dinner at Zhunfthaus zu Pfistern around 11:30PM; still saw some white people dinning in the dining room there. So if you are not white, don't even consider this place. Zhunfthaus zu Pfistern servers are very nice and they will serve you well. Better to spend your money at Zhunfthaus zu Pfistern. read more

I had the chicken cordon bleu which was just ok. If you have had good ice cream in the US then you would not like this ice cream here. The whipped cream on top was thick and had no sweetness. I won't go back. I like the concept and atmosphere but the food just wasn't that great. read more
