One encounter with this Police Department and it was awful. Officer N. was the most despondent…read morepublic servant I have ever met. My husband and I got a flat tire on the Garden State Pkwy, and while my husband ran into the local Walmart to ask for directions to the tire center, the officer proceeded to give me a parking ticket for being in a handicap spot. I was in the car, I told him we had a flat and needed assistance, he could have asked me to pull one spot over. No he walked around the care and said the flat didn't look that "bad", he didn't even inspect the tire, nor did he ask how far we needed to go. Additionally, we honestly had no idea it was a handicap spot, it was not clearly marked, I though it was a off loading spot, there was no sign ahead of me. So while the officer wrote his ticket, time passed from 6:45 to 7p and the tire center closed. We asked if he had any recommendations of where to go, no recommendation, nothing, "everything is closed". So with that helpful response he pulled away in his SUV, never to be seen again in the parking lot, we would know, we were there an hour more changing our tire in the parking lot in the rain. Unlike officer N, many local civilians offered to give us a hand, and directed us to other possible repair shops. Finally, we were on our way, however we couldn't go far on our donut tire, so we had to find a place to stay over night until we got a new tire in the morning, only $200 bucks more. So due to the complete lack of integrity and common courtesy of this officer, a day where we planned to save money by going to a family party in south jersey, turned into a $400 ordeal. Which I'm sure is not a big deal for the officers of Old Bridge who earn approx. $130,000, but for us it is a huge strain on our bank accounts. My father just retired from the NYPD after 30 years of service, he was one the the guys you fought for when main stream media threw out outlandish misrepresentations of Police officers who were out there serving and protecting their communities. With my father's work ethic in mind, I was left with such a bad feeling after interacting with officer N. I felt that we were dealing with a person who was only there to do the job, no inter-personal skills, never to go above and beyond, he was just there because he needed to be and because a ticket needed to be written. Do not misunderstand, we will pay the ticket. We do not live close by, nor can we take off work to plea Not Guilty. But, I think it needs to be known, I hope this officer's attitudes are not those of your entire department. If this is the experience I had, I can only imagine the negative experiences and negative impressions left on other civilians who do not hold police officers in a high regard, nor know police officers personally. These sentiments will erode a community's trust and confidence in a department. I will note when I called to speak about this officer's lack of concern for passengers of a disabled vehicle the sergeant on duty was very polite and said he would speak with the officer. Not knowing if the Sgt. will actually say anything to the officer, at least the Sgt knew had to interact professionally and speak to a concerned civilian.
