I discovered this shop about a month ago and have visited three times since, making purchases on…read moreeach visit. I always bring my girlfriend with me when I come in. However, I've noticed a consistent pattern that's made me increasingly uncomfortable. Each time we're in the store, the staff behaves as if we're being watched closely--asking if we want items held at the counter or having an employee follow us under the pretense of folding shirts while we browse. I've spent over $100 here so far and don't appreciate being treated with suspicion. Having worked in retail myself, I'm familiar with the signs of someone being monitored because they're assumed to be stealing, and that's how it feels every time I shop here. I really like the shop's selection--especially the Jellycats--but there are other local stores that carry similar products. I'm willing to give the shop one more chance, but if I experience this same treatment again, I will be taking my business elsewhere.

Everything is handmade by artisans, solid wood, and full of character, not mass-produced furniture pretending to be special. The new owner spent nearly two hours helping me sort through options, explaining woods, finishes, and layout decisions. He has a degree in interior design, and it absolutely shows. That experience is why I ended up buying everything for my condo from him except the sofa and bed. They don't carry sofas and offer headboards only, but for dining, storage, tables, and statement pieces, this place is unmatched. Locally owned, sustainably made, and genuinely special.

He was defensive and dismissive to my question, and then became pretentious: Speaking about how interior designers would recognize the character in these pieces and how their customers get the pieces stained to their tastes. He also reeked of cigarette smoke. Not at all what I'd expect from a store on the outskirts of Birmingham. The store is full of eclectic and vibrant decor that will speak to the hearts of artists everywhere, ranging from clothing, to furniture, to toys and museum quality gifts. It has a variety of quirky finds that I've never seen before. The intention here is almost like a local gallery exalting each stunning piece of art, no matter how small. The pieces ranged from the very tiny porcelain dog, which was about the size of your thumb, to the very large bears, that were furry and taller than me. Colorful, diverse art dotted the walls and were displayed in all different living room themes for all different tastes and styles of home. This was a clever idea. You could picture the decor in your own home. "Buy local" is the intention here and deteriorating properties were bought up by the owner and given a stunning facelift to elevate the community. This was a closed down roller rink. There was also a cinema next door that turned to a gift shop and off beat eatery. The unique history of each is preserved in the original artifacts throughout. Being that this is art focused and unique, don't have the expectation of Walmart prices. Of course you're getting one-of-a-kind quality pieces that will make your heart sing when you see your selected art displayed proudly in your home. They don't have to buy anything and so you better kiss their behinds. Even if they don't want anything they might feel bad for you because you were so nice. 2) The prices need to be low enough to justify buying something useless. 3) You have to gave good stuff that people want, though they don't need. Also, it helps to have things that one has never seen before and thus must purchase it because they may never see it again. Well, Scout is a nice enough store. The store sells kitch, curios and art. The inside is nice and bright. There are some interesting items, but nothing that I can't live without. Also, I've seen a lot of the same items around the area. The prices were probably comparable but were still pricey. I don't think there was anything for less than $10 or I didn't find it. I give Scout 3 stars because the lady behind the counter was not very friendly or helpful. When I walked into the store she didn't acknowledge me right away or ask if I needed anything. Instead she just talked to a friend for almost the whole 15 minutes we were in there. I was the first to say hello as I entered. Eventually, she engaged us in conversation a little, but it wasn't the friendliest of conversations. Scout had some unique gift ideas and art pieces. Over all the quality stuff was very expensive. It turns out they were upset because target closed their DEI department. Inside was a clean bright store, I only went to food, alcohol and pet supplies, but everything was well laid out in orderly. There were hardly any other customers, so it was really easy to check out the old-fashioned way with the cashier instead of self Service. A lot of the food items in there limited but broad grocery section. We're a little higher end, and cost a little more, but overall a very pleasant shopping experience.

We love Bon Bon Bon and they have a small stall here! One of my favorite discoveries though was The Workplace Program - selling cards made by people with disabilities - they were so unique and awesome! I ended up buying one for my brother's birthday and it was the same price you'd see at Hallmark for a nice card. Overall, the space was clean and easy to navigate - only took us about 45 minutes to browse through all the vendors. Definitely check out if you're in the area and want to support local!
