Bet's Fish Fry

The great Yelp reviews lured us in, and the fabulous haddock sealed it -- Bet's is a wonderful home…read moreto a really scrumptiously tasty fish 'n chips. It's just a tiny little shack on the side of the road (we missed it first time around and had to circle the roundabout), but do they ever serve up the right stuff! They serve a huge -- really huuuuge -- portion of fresh, crispy haddock with homemade tartar and lemon dill sauces. It's not a plate of fish, it's a BOWL of fish, And it comes with crunchy fries, also a big serving. We think that may ruiined us for anyone else's haddock for a long, long time. There are picnic tables for your dining and a small parking area. Oh, it's also cash only, so come prepared. Our thanks to all the Yelpers who have recommended Bet's; we're delighted to join the crowd.

That's how popular and good this place is. Finally, after two years of trying, we were able to enjoy the amazingly delicious fish fry that everyone raved about. The batter was light and flavorful... And the fish was cooked to perfection. Not one millimeter was overcooked or overly seasoned. The ladies who make this food know what they're doing, and it's been worth every single attempt. I also love the outdoor seating and the picnic benches as it only adds to the experience. I look forward to trying it again. Next time I visit Boothbay, Maine. Yum!

The AC was awesome and quiet. There is a balcony for every room. My only critique is that there are no privacy screens between balconies. When our neighbors were out on theirs they could see right into our room and im sure visa versa. Unfortunately their restaurant was not open this season. They did have a very nice continental breakfast every morning starting at 7am. Freshly baked muffins, hot hard boild eggs, various cerials, yogurts, juice and delicious coffee. We loved that everything was a short walk away. There is the 1901 foot bridge just down the street, that takes you over the water to all the tourist spots, and the whale watch boats. We did a whale watch and it was exacly a 17 min walk, taking our time. So no worries about paid parking. We will be back next year. Hope the resturant will be open by then.

I was fine but my elderly mother could not do it so we drove. There's other hotel / inn options if you want he close to the village. With this said, I loved the views from our balcony. Btw, super small bathrooms as you expected from these older inns. It's hard to enlarge spaces to modern expectations.

I'm transported into a vortex of restaurant going people stuffing crustations down their grills snug in their catacomb tables, lending me to the unproven knowledge to this toil - or so it seems, that when we all eat, we might be missing a lot of what's happened to bring this meal to you. We foodies seem to always get our way - in the federal penitentiary, you never get your way, you NEVER get your (Fing) way - so please, understand that eighty five percent of the world would kill for our problems. . The frenzy and attention to the meal without the background, I think about and behaviors aren't quite unlike the gulls in the big box store lots atop the light posts, what the people do here with their face gullets plunging down and their feeding frenzies of cheap one liners. The gulls are missing their experiences because they're no longer down by the dock, they're inland - they're in St. Louis. I know first hand because I driven (not flown over or into) The Gateway to the West, I'm seeing these large birds all the time - they're are all around - I'm on their turf and we both know it. Fortunately, I've not had to throw hands with a hungry goose over an lost and unlucky little bagel. My guys whose names I mentioned in the photos and will add in, they throw down daily freshness from Casco Bay to you - buy you hesitate when buying retail seafood, you out of towners - and by "you" I am referring to Me. Let your conscience be your guide, real all of Mr. Alarming's reviews - pour it into a bottle and add some Bombay Sapphire - chug it down and partake if you are into that because you can up in here and its everywhere and it'll work up your hunger and you'll laugh a bit more than usual and if that's wrong --------- I don't wanna be right.

Let's start with the cocktails, because they truly deserve top billing. I always order the seasonal espresso martini, and somehow it just keeps getting better. This time it was tiramisu-inspired, and it was unreal. Rich, balanced, not overly sweet, and actually tasted like the dessert without feeling heavy. Whoever is behind that bar knows exactly what they're doing. The fish and chips? You cannot go wrong. Perfectly crisp batter, flaky fish, and fries that hold their own. It's one of those dishes you order once and then find yourself thinking about days later. That said, everything we've tried over multiple visits has been consistently excellent. It's the kind of menu where you feel safe branching out because you know it's going to deliver. The space itself adds to the whole experience. The architecture is beautiful, with warm wood tones and big windows that bring in natural light and make the river views part of the meal. It manages to feel polished and special without being stuffy. You can dress up a little or come in relaxed and still feel right at home. And the service is always attentive in that effortless way. Our servers have consistently been knowledgeable, present, and genuinely welcoming without hovering. It makes the whole night feel easy.

We will definitely be back.

Actually, even though it was windy, it was kind of cold inside, so we chose outside. Dawn was our server and she could not have been nicer. She talked us through several of our questions about food on the menu. We ordered the calamari prepared pepper's way. Really good. We then each ordered the stuffed halibut. It was also good, but you had to eat it quickly because it got cold fast. We ordered broccoli as our vegetable side, but the chef gave us stir fried squash and zucchini. Dawn was embarrassed and went back for the broccoli. However I ate all of the mixed vegetables because they were actually quite good. For our last seafood dinner in Maine, we are glad we chose this place. Not fancy but very friendly and warm.
