Another visit to Nagoya, we were celebrating her finishing exams. we decided to share some things because they have a mix and match menu which seemed easier to order from. We chose spicy tuna rolls, mixed tempura, spring rolls, fried rice, and california rolls. Service was good, but it took a while for the food to come out of the kitchen. However our server was polite and professional. Ambiance is lovely in there for a quiet place to chat. It seemed again to be pretty quiet, so i encourage people to try it because it definately is a business that deserves to be there. Food was delicious and plentiful. For sure the star runner was the spicy tuna rolls. So delicious and flavourful! I would order this again. Mixed tempura was tasty and the batter was amazing. Came to Nagoya in Hollick Kenyon/Britnell today with a group of four coworkers for lunch. Nagoya's grand opening was yesterday, August 28, 2017, with a soft opening last month. First off, the restaurant itself is GORGEOUS! Huge, spacious, bright, colourful, and had a variety of seating options. We opted for a large booth which easily fit the four of us with ample room for two more adults. The booths are amongst the most spacious I have ever sat in - especially at a Japanese restaurant. We all shared a bit of the following: Bento Box A - came with teriyaki chicken on veg, 4 large pieces of sashimi, 2 California rolls, 2 nigiri sushi, three pieces of tempura and miso soup for $20.95. Vegetarian maki roll (their menu isn't online yet so I can't look up the name) but it had fried asparagus, avocado, cucumber, and a lemon mayo. I promise that I'll update this with the deets once their website is up and running. Dynamite Roll (with DELICIOUS mango slices inside!!!!) $14.95 Assorted Tempura - a great variety including green pepper! That was a first for me. Shrimp appetizer - again I need the menu to remember the name but it was soaked in the most delicious rice wine vinegar that had a smokey taste. Divine! Green tea - $1.50/person We were absolutely blown away by the quality. The freshness of the assorted sashimi and the shrimp from the appetizer was apparent right from the start. Everything was seasoned and presented with care and detail. My only complaint for the entire meal was that some of my tempura, specifically the zucchini tasted a bit water logged and could have used some sweating before being battered and fried. The serving sizes of the maki rolls were HUGE. There were so many items on the menu that I cannot wait to come back and try including their ramen, udon, lobster roll (served with an actual lobster tail), and tuna and beef tataki just to name a few. The owner, Wen, came out to greet us and ask how our meal was. It was an absolute pleasure speaking with her and hearing her story of coming to Canada. She's also a licensed massage therapist and esthetician and is opening a salon in a strip mall by Kingsway Mall. If it's anything like Nagoya, it will be outstanding with the obvious and careful attention to detail. Oh and let's not forget the gorgeous and spacious washrooms complete with handicapped accessible stall and baby changing table. read more

It was very nice to find a Japanese restaurant that had so many amazing options. My husband had some yellowtail and said it was amazing. I had Tonkotsu ramen and it was delicious. Although my husband and I have been to Japan many times and knew what to expect from the food my parents had never had Japanese food and they loved it as well. Took my daughter to this restaurant when we visited her. It was nice to go to a good Japanese restaurant. The decor was clean, bright and a little modern take on the typical Asian. Service was friendly. We enjoyed our ramen, tonkatsu and a beautiful presentation of sashimi in a glass clam shell on a bed of rice noodles. All was delicious as well as being beautifully presented. Nice to have a another Japanese option in Northeast. Even better to have a quality option such as this. My wife and I have come a few times. The quality has been good with one of our visits being exceptional. The tuna sashimi was the absolute best we have ever had. It simply melted in your mouth with a fresh, clear flavour. Sadly we tried the same item again but it has never reached the same quality. The atmosphere is comfortable if not a little formal. The food ranges from good to great including various bento options, sushi and tempura although the prices are a little high. I would, however, skip the ramen. I found it uninventive and flavourless. I think it is on the menu to cover all the bases but I would suggest that quality ramen requires time and focus so choose a different restaurant with that specialty. read more

Very excited to have a tasty sushi option in the northeast of Edmonton! To start - I'm not a huge foodie and I will only get as adventurous as to eat the rolls. The rolls are awesome!! I've tried a handful of the different rolls. My favorite has to be the lobster roll. At the price that it is, rest assured you will be stuffed. Mom's with kids? No problem! I've come here at lunch with two little babies and with another mom with her own babies. We were accommodated well, given a large table, and the owner came out to meet the kiddos. We left a mess and the staff assured us to just enjoy ourselves and our meal. As for the decor and ambiance, the other posts have it covered. The place seems fresh and clean. The bathrooms have change tables. You do not need reservations, although that option exists. The parking lot is big and parking is plentiful. 4 stars given for the tasty meals and for the accommodating staff and restaurant cleanliness. read more

Finally a superb quality sushi place in the north. It seems like the north was never gonna get anything remotely this good. But having tried this ugh that gapping hole is filled. Start off they have their act together. The place is beautiful and very friendly and tentative staff. We had ordered soba noodles and udon noodles and some sushi uni and hamachi (we just wanted a light lunch). After we ordered, the chef came back and recommended we order the uni sashimi as it was freshly received the night before and it was uni season (fall - winter). They were super excited about it so it was hard to say no. When the food arrived. It was really nicely portioned and presented. Shortly after we started eating. Our uni sashimi shows up fashionable late after we started our first few bites. But what an entrance! The dish was beautifully prepared and my goodness, best tasting uni I've had since Japan. (Honestly, uni is a very difficult fish to get right, esp in edmonton and it turns a lot of people off) but this did not disappoint and neither did the rest of our dishes. Sometimes it's worth asking what they'd recommend sometimes. They know what's good and will give you recommendations. The chefs are talented and are passionate and proud of it. Spot Prawn Deep Fried Head, Chop Chop Cone, Bento Box, Toro, Ikura and Tempura Kept reading and hearing about how good this place was since it opened so decided to bring some ppl here for lunch. For the distance I had to drive, this was a mistake. Food here was pricey. Wasn't even "so good" as others have claimed. Chop Chop cone was pretty meh, rice filled. Toro was pretty disappointing, no trace of fat/flavor in any piece. Ikura had some good sweetness though and it was a nice touch for them to deep fry the spot prawn head to eat. Most places don't do that. Tempura was average for Edmonton standards and while I didn't have the bento, friends said it wasn't great for the price at all. Located in Northeast Edmonton, this is passable for a sushi restaurant if you live nearby. The service was ok but the interior was pretty nice, got a good new shiny feel. However, if you plan to come out here because you heard it was great, don't. Save Gas. Protect the Earth. Global warming IS real. Good Japanese food in the North East This restaurant opened during the summer of 2017 and is a good addition to the Hollick Kenyon neighbourhood. The restaurant is decorated in what one would call a "tradtional" Japanese style, or at least what North American's would consider traditional. One quirk, I found that the booths are set a bit too far back from the tables for a person of short stature so when I go, I prefer a table to sitting in a booth. The menu is varied with good selection of the usual "standards" and has a wide variety of sushi, sashimi and more traditional cooked Japanese food including Ramen which I must try on my next visit. I've been a few times and have had a variety of dishes and all have been high quality and enjoyable. Everything has been fresh and tasty. The staff are young, personable/friendly and attentive. Service was quick, almost too quick on my first visit as entrees arrived before finishing appetizers. They have a full bar though oenophiles may be disappointed with limited selection. Just drink Japanese beer or sake instead! Overall, a good option for Japanese in the north east part of the city if you don't want to travel far. read more

I had driven passed this establishment for a couple years before I stopped in for the first time a few months ago. I am very pleased i stopped in. Their Tan-Tan Ramen with egg is worth a drive north! The broth is not as salty as I have experienced other places and you will finish the last drop. I have also had the Tuna and Beef tataki and they are very good. My personal choice is the beef. They do their own special twist on the sauce that I really like. The restaurant is very clean, the staff are very welcoming, and the overall experience is excellent. This is a welcome addition to the northeast, serving both sushi and a wider range of Japanese-inspired dishes. The beef tataki is lightly seared and cut thicker than the raw version of this dish. The sauce was a nice blend of citrus and acid. The rolls were tight and there are some unique combinations of flavours. The noodle dish we had was very salty. Overall, it was a good meal. I found the presence of large, bright televisions disturbing to the quiet, clean room design. So unless I am in the area, I am not likely to go back. read more

I'm really fond of Japanese food. I was excited to see this place show up on the neighbourhood, and it looked pretty inside. Service is prompt and polite. Sad to say, nothing is very inspiring when it gets to the table. Sushi doesn't taste that fresh, miso tastes and looks like it came out of a can, tempura lacks flavor and freshness. The prices don't really reflect the lack of quality, either. We went twice because I was very very hopeful, but since the second time we were made to sit waiting 15 minutes for the bill after we had finished eating (despite low traffic), we have not been back. Every time we reconsider, I remember the letdown and make an excuse to do something else. read more

I visited Friday, Sept. 10th. The food was good, but this restaurant needs to improve in other areas. There was only one server - not enough for that evening. The server was very nice but not able to attend to our needs. We did not see much of her as she had too many tables. We needed more wasabi, but didn't get the chance to ask for more. They were also out of the best Sake and completely sold out of dessert. Also, we were unable to book through open table app - it kept saying they were fully booked no matter what time we tried to book. Management needs to get it together. read more

This is an exceptional new sushi restaurant. They serve all traditional sushi, sashimi, maki etc, but in addition to this, the exceptional chef has created his own dishes, which I have found delicious every time. A friend told me of a new sushi restaurant in town so i made the trip across town to Nagoya. We arrived 1:30 on Friday afternoon, the restaurant is large and bright and we decided to sit at the sushi bar. We ordered beef and tuna tataki to start and talking with chef Jimmy he indicated he would prepare a special shasmi plate which was awesome ( blue fin tune belly, wild hamachi, scallops, uni and sockeye salmon). The chop chop was the best i have had. The chef informed us they get there fresh fish Friday afternoon. My boyfriend and I were so happy to see a this restaurant opening right by our house! We usually have to drive to downtown for some decent Japanese, but now we are less then 2 minutes away from delicious and fresh sashimi!! I had the bento box the first time, and did not particularly enjoy it. It was pretty average. But the second time, we ordered a bunch of sashimi and were very impressed. It totally made up for the "meh" bento box. It tasted extremely fresh and I suggest ordering it if you ever come here! The interior decoration is modern and clean. Service was good too, our server was funny, friendly, and attentive. She brought all of our food out in a very timely manner, which we appreciated very much, as we were starving!! The sushi has a C shape instead of an O shape. The fish has bad taste. The eel role is salty. The to go soy sauce is a cheap brand which is very salty. This is the first time I have eaten at this restaurant and it will be the last. Overpriced, not very good and cheap attitude. The person who took my take-out order was very nice and one of the dishes (chicken fried rice was not bad - otherwise I would have rated at 1 star). Spider roll: bland, over-priced and falling apart; prawns with peaches and mayo - don't think they should have it on the menu if they don't know how to prepare it, bland, no evidence of mayo so maybe it melted?, peaches seemed old - almost mush; Teppan chicken combo was ordered for lunch tomorrow so I will write about it later though it mainly looked like cabbage and chicken and the chicken looked crumbly and over-cooked. Now for the cheap pettiness. I had asked if they have sesame sauce and they do. After talking to the girl at the front she asked if I would like a larger container of the sauce. She checked and said it would be $2. I said yes. Got the order home and it was a very small (tiny) container and it was filled half-way. Apparently the people in the back decided not to give me the container of sauce I paid for. My whole order was close to $72. The food was underwhelming but especially due to the cheap way they handled that $2 sauce, it will be the last money they make from me. They seem to want to be in a league with high quality Japanese restaurants but the food quality is not there. In fact, I have enjoyed meals from Tokyo Express much more than Nagoya with better quality and a much lower price. read more
