What a great place. After canvassing a number of places in the area we went back to Nahacky's because of the attention and service we received. We were looking for a large tank setup and wanted a place that would take the time to answer a lot of questions, were knowledgeable, and had equipment we liked. Nahacky won on all counts being a family business that really cared. The delivery and setup went smoothly and they took a genuine interest as the tank matured. It's been about 5 months now, we're still learning, they're still teaching us, and we have a thriving fish and coral environment. Additionally they've given us enough help to allow us to do much more on our own, confidently, than I thought we would be at right now. Always have enough time for us, and I've seen it with every customer when we're in the shop. Much better than the more industrial aquarium shops we've experienced. read more

Now We met this charming fellow in front of the shrimp tank, after about 15 minutes where he tried to run past us stating if we needed any help let them know. Obviously not wanting to help. At this point, I said "well, we do need help." Dude skids to a stop and says "well what do you need help with?" He looks annoyed, and I am already feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome. Customer service absolutely sucked today. They were busy, I know, but good grief would it hurt you to be nice to new faces? You were recommended to us by another pet store because we were looking for shrimp. I hated every single second spent in your store. Had a good look around at everything to be told that most of the things I saw were apparently in my imagination because you didn't have them. "I don't have any plecos " we saw at least 8 in one tank. We were told that they only had albino Cory cats... but we saw panda and other species in other tanks in quantity. I mentioned that I had white sand and wanted them to stand out more... what do you know... now they have green ones. I'm looking at about 20 panda cats at the same time. Before I could ask to be sold other fish, this man is suggesting to bag these fish up and meet us up front. At this point I am ready to leave and just never come back. I already hate this place and I am trying to figure out why we are being treated so badly. It's cramped at the register and they seem to have one POS and no one is talking to us. The fish bagger has now disappeared and a lady showed up whom we thought he's told about our fish... but, no no... she whispers to us that she's going to help the people behind us first? This might have been the exact straw. Now she's asking them WHAT THEY NEED! No, THIS is the straw! Then asks us what we need. We are the last people at the register to be helped in that rush. Now, of course, I don't want to engage for fear of what might come out of my mouth. I just point at our bagged three fish that were already there. She rings us up (silently, what did we expect)... $17 for mental distress and horrible service. Best part... Hands me my receipt and says: Bye So, if I could give negative stars I would give, a negative two. This experience took a perfectly wonderful end of work week and ruined it. I am questioning xenophobia, orientation, or racism for motivation. It is either that or the entire store was having a bad day and needs customer service training. There were two other guys in there that never said a word to us, despite eye contact. We are not going back. Update: one fish died in the bag. I will eat the cost to avoid going back. After reading the old reviews, I was a little worried about visiting this store, but I dredged up my courage and went. It's quite a busy shop, and ALL of the workers were very helpful to this newbie. I came out with good advice and only the things I absolutely need to start my aquarium. Once I get it set up, they have encouraged me to come back with a water sample which they will test for free! after I inherited an aquarium, I stopped by Nahacky's since I pass there every day. i had never owned fish before and they gave me the advice I needed to move the aquarium safely and get it set up. it went so well, I added more fish and got another, bigger, used aquarium! They helped me figure out the equipment that came with it and advised me on checking it out before setting it up and flooding my house! Today was probably the sixth time in this store and will be my last even if the last shop on the planet. I came in to find a perc/clown for my anemone. I was there walking around for about 10 minutes before going to find someone to assist me. I was abruptly asked if I needed help. I told the associate exactly what I needed. He pointed out two suitable fish and walked off. Of course since I wasn't able to make a decision or request a selection I decided someone else deserved my business. I will drive to Orlando or Winter Park as I know I will get friendly service where they appreciate me spending money and would like my repeat business. I do not recommend this business. read more

If you love fish you have to visit nahackys. They have an awesome staff that will help you with all your aquarium needs. They are extremely helpful and will walk you through every step of the process from tank setup to individual fish maintenance questions. I went to nahackys for the first time 2 years ago and knew nothing about salt water. The staff walked me through the whole process and I have had a healthy tank ever since. I would highly reccomend going. This place is far superior to any commercial pet store: Petco pet supermarket, pet smart. I just moved back to Melbourne after 14 years and brought my tank and fishy friends with me. Upon a major tank and appliance overhaul I added a dozen new fishies to the community from here. They love it! However after a week the tank got a white haze in the water, so I went back to Nahackys for advice. These casual dudes are so knowledgeable, helpful and real it was astounding. They didnt try to upsell me on a higher priced product, but walked me thru the de-ammonianizing (sp) project at hand. I wanted to get a few more fish and they told me to hold off until the cleansing was complete. The owner might wish he made more $ off me, but now I am a superfan and will super direct traffic to them. Why cant all other businesses be as badass? read more

I've been going to Nahacky's for over two years now. Overall I've received healthy marine fish and great customer service. Most employees answer every question that I've ever given them and if they were unsure they've asked a more knowledgable co worker or looked it up for me. Also I've picked fish out for size choosing the larger specimen and they have looked at the fish and suggested I go with the smaller one because when bagging the one I picked noticed cloudy eyes and told me rather than selling me the fish with ich. Most staff has always been friendly too and dealt well with me when I've brought all three of my kids into the store that ask a million questions, ages 8,6&5. read more

Bought glass tops and fluval lights for my 75 gallon and 40 gallon breeder tanks.....great customer service !......really pleased with staff and owner who guided me into my glass lids and lights....really a clean store and extremely helpful....will be going back soon to start stocking my tanks with cichlids soon......thanks again guys ! read more

It's a neat place with a large selection of stuff. But they're quite pricey, and my professional fish guy says they oversold me on live rock. And the live rock we purchased came with unwanted bristle worms and all kinds of strange coral that was bad for my fish. The owner dude is a little strange - and very pushy. The owner is very R-U-D-E!!!!!! Went there for the very first time, spent over $200.00!!! I was unable to return ANYTHING (filter/pump) one day later....even though I had the receipt that says you have 7 days!!!!!!! The receipt should have read NO RETURNS!!! He wanted to put it on consignment and give me 50% IF it sold. What a joke. BEWARE!!!!!!!!!! A complete nightmare. The owner spoke to me very disrespectfully....! All he wants is your money! My family has been a customer of Nahacky's for 10 years. Today I called to ask if I could trade in my 4 inch Oscar who has outgrown my tanks. I was told I could not get cash but could receive a store credit, which we have done many times in the past. Today I took in my fish. The blonde mop-haired young man took the fish and told me I could not get cash but a store credit. I agreed, again, and waited for him to return. He bagged up my fish and disappeared, After 10 minutes he came back and told me my fish was worth a $2.00 store credit. Again I waited for the credit and to purchase frozen food. After another 10 minutes I found him and asked about the credit and he told me I wasn't going to get anything and walked away. He said he was speaking for the manager. He was extremely rude and condescending. The manager hid in the office and wouldn't come out. Nahacky's stole my fish. No one in my family will ever do business with them again. I think if my dad had come with me they would not have taken advantage of him the way they did with me. read more

Lost a customer. I had purchased 2 Apple Snails and they lived 2 years and even wintered over with the cold January weather this year. I did not want to use barely straw and they suggested these snails and could not have been happier. I purchased 2 xtra large Apple snails to replace these and after 10 days the both died. I understand the warranty but..I have also purchased my Pondmaster supplies thru them could have easily purchased on line for less money so for the $10 I paid I think they should have done something and replaced them but they said it had been too long. I have all my receipts and my punch card so they know it was not the first time I shopped there plus I live 30 minutes away from them. If had been one of their saltwater or freshwater fishes I would not even considered asking. All my pond fish are thriving and I had experience with indoor cichlids too so I do not consider myself a novice. Do not recommend them. read more

Every time we come in we are greeted with warm welcoming smiles my children are amazed and entertained and have all of their questions answered. TL; DR: The fish here are very healthy and cheap. The staff is willing to help with any of your problems, and puts your needs above the cost of the fish. They also genuinely care about the fish that they have. In stock are filters, tanks, heaters, lights, saltwater fish, and freshwater fish. If you're looking to buy a fish or set up a new aquarium, this is the place to go. I had had a lonely fish tank sitting in my house, waiting to be filled with fish. I had been reading many articles online about how to take care of fish, but I didn't even know what fish I was going to get. Since I was a beginner at taking care of fish, I decided that the best place to go would be a specialty fish store. One of my friends (who I considered to be a master of fish) recommended coming here he had said that he had gotten all of his fish here. So I decided to go here and look at the fish. I was not expecting much when I heard about it, just some Nemos (clownfish) and goldfish, but upon walking in, I saw the large selection of fish that the store had to offer. The store sells both freshwater fish (which are the ones that are easier to care for) and saltwater fish (the ones that require your attention 24/7). As I was checking out the fish, I saw a myriad of colors, shapes, and species. Some of the fish cost more than $100 and some only slightly more than a dollar. I had decided which fish I wanted and was going to buy them. However, the extremely knowledgeable staff told me that the fish that I wanted was not the hardiest of fish. The fish that I picked would have cost $8 (glow tetra), but instead I decided to look into more long lived fish. With the help of the staff, I picked four fish of two different species on my first time here, and each fish only cost $2! I also picked out a plant for my fish, which was $5. About to leave, the staff member called me back and told me that if I were to just get some fish and put them into my tank like this, the fish could become depressed or sick and die. Instead, he told me the procedure. He also told me which food was the best for the fish that I was getting and sold me an item that helps regulate the pH of their water. They had told me that my tank (10 gallons) could fit up to ten fish, but I don't like taking risks so I decided to get four more fish to my existing four fish. I came back and got two more fish species with long lifespans, according to both them and numerous websites that I had visited. After they were put into my tank, I decided to take extreme care of them, watching them for around 30 minutes a day. The fish seem to be enjoying themselves in the tank, and there is not even a speck of filth to be seen in the tank. Thanks to Nahacky's, I am happily taking care of four fish. If I ever have a question about what to do with my fish, I can just call them, and they have always picked up and answered my question (sass free). I think that it is safe to say that Nahacky's is the best place in the area to go if you want to get a fish or start an aquarium. read more

Great store but poor customer service. I think the owner is friendly, courteous, and helpful, but his lack of ability to hire employees who do the same will be the eventual demise of his business. On four different occasions I have received terrible customer service there. Twice from a young kid who didn't know the answer to the question I asked, but instead of saying "I don't know" he gave answers that were totally, blatantly incorrect, (once he said that Sea Anemones do not photosynthesis and do not need light). On the other two occasions, I had to deal with a guy who spoke to me like I'm stupid and he presents himself in a way that makes it seem like customers are a real hassle to him. LFS always have a bad rep for price. I get that. Ordering livestock online is always iffy too. The one thing I do like is if something goes wrong I have that proverbial bellybutton to push and ask questions. I was a rookie/novice in terms of saltwater reef keeping. I was there almost daily with my struggles but they got me through the issues and today I have two outstanding tanks. They are pricey on some items which is expected from retail. The benefit now is the employees know exactly what I have in my tanks and can advise what NOT to add to the reef based on fish and critters. I don't think they will try and up sell me on something because of the rapport I have built with employees. Buying any livestock is a risk. Once you leave store it's on you. If fish die when you get home that's a calculated risk. If you inform them what you have in tank they are pretty good at advising what NOT to put in there. Sometimes, stuff happens. The one thing I did learn from this business is working with the owner. If you approach things as shit happens and you want a solution he is willing to work with you. If you go in guns blazing blaming him for everything you won't get far. This is based on me being there daily and observing. I have no stake in business but it's all about approach. I always was honest about what was going on and they worked with me. Buy online is great but I like human contact when stuff goes off the rails. I have been in the hobby for over 35 years now. I recently moved to Merritt Island Florida and have been extremely hard pressed to find a half way decent shop to purchase my aquarium needs. I found that NaHacky's was the best of choices in Brevard County how ever, The first purchase I made there where a mated pair of Oscelarus clowns and a bubble tipped Anemone. Now bear in mind that this was my fault for not paying close attention. The anemone lasted two days! Again my fault because there where several rotten and decaying anemones in the tank I choose him from! The female Oscealarus clown had a small growth under her on her belly that I did not see when buying her. She never did eat and the growth got bigger ( Yes I medicated her several times) and eventually died! The male Oscelarus has still not eaten and is about to die. I have a long list of fish on my reef that are fat and healthy. I am no dummy when it comes to water quality. I never did report this to the store because I felt that this was all my fault due to just not paying attention. I went back in and bought a Colored Bubble tip anemone for $80.00 (keep in mind again more dyeing or dead anemones in the tank) However this one was on the side of the glass and half way open so, I made the purchase. When the Employee pryed him off the glass I felt at the time he was a bit brutal in his procedure but all looked well! Got the anemone home and he keep inflating and going back down as if he wanted to die. Several days had gone by and he stopped trying to inflate. I then noticed that there was a small tear in his foot. You guessed it! He never recovered and down the toilet he went. I called NaHackys and explained my first two experiences to the owner and in a nice way he told me you pick everything out and you saw it and you bought it ! NOT good customer service if you ask me and they will not have the chance to take another few hundred dollars out of my pocket. I now drive to Orlando ! Saltwater shops in Brevard County are dirty/filthy and most everyone of them lack the experience to even run one! Take this advice or burn your money! Its all up to you!!!! read more
