Sliced Fatty Beef w. Green Pepper Soup
    Cindy C.

04.10.2024 @ 6:04pm Wednesday Called in place order for pick up. My second time trying this place. The first time I ordered for lunch take out a Spicy Beef Pot comes with a rice. Didn't like the beef slice. Was thick & cheap quality. Now this second time I got the Fatty Beef with Green Pepper Soup. Over all the soup or pot is overly oily. This place wouldn't be on my list of craving.

Sliced Beef with Hot and Sour Soup and Sliced fish with Tomato Soup and extra kelp + tripe
    Lisa L.

I was apprehensive in coming here based on Yelp reviews but the menu and photos were enticing. We took a risk and came here and it was a good decision. The other reviews are 100% accurate in that the staff didn't seem like they wanted to be there. It was fine service, not smiley, not welcoming, but not rude. We ordered the Lemon Yakult drink, the Sliced beef with hot and sour soup (had a rating of two hot peppers) and the fish with tomato soup broth. We also got kelp and tripe on the side. The drink came pretty fast and the food came maybe within 10 minutes of ordering. They didn't bring us any water at all. They did bring plates and napkins and disposable utensils though. The drink was not that good, a tad too sour. I was originally afraid that the sliced beef with hot and sour soup was going to be too spicy since it was a rating of two red peppers, but it really wasn't that spicy at all!!! So I ended up taking this soup for myself and my boyfriend had the tomato one. It's what he wanted originally anyway. The hot and sour soup was so damn good, literally hit the spot for me and the beef was the typical hot pot fatty beef. The soup is quite oily though. The kelp and tripe were also great additions with this soup. The tomato with fish was OK. Tomato soup really doesn't do it for me. If you come here, def get the sour based soups since that's what they're known for. The fish was good but I feel like they didn't have that many slices in the soup. Overall, I say give this place a try! We are def coming back.

I love their golden hot and sour soup with sliced beef tastes so good. I ordered every week or two they delivered it fast.

    Seafood Dancing

Our office ordered lunch from here on Sunday. When I first looked at the Yelp reviews I was worried due to its high amount of negative reviews. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the results after ordering the seafood dancing dish. When I first started eating it I was worried because the broth tasted slightly bland; however, as I kept eating more and more of the flavor and spice hit me. Therefore, you should definitely remember to mix the soup before eating it. The broth ended up being very delicious and savory definitely a highlight of the dish. Additionally, I loved the huge variety of items in the bowl, there were three large and juicy prawns with lots of fish filets, bean curd and a mixture of vegetables. The fish itself was absolutely soft and well cooked. Additionally all of it just went so well with the rice. Finally, the portion was huge in this meal. It lasted me for two full meals. All in all, a nice lunch for a good value - definitely check it out if you're in the area or for takeout.

Came in on a Monday evening with two friends around 8:30PM - pleasantly surprised that despite limited seating (maybe 5 tables of four max), we were able to sit! Support local small businesses!!! As a group, we ordered the signature Chinese sauerkraut & fish, the tomato & fish and the beef & hot/spicy soup plus tripe, kelp and cauliflower on the side. Normally, the sides are add ons directly placed into your soup of choosing but we had them on the side to easily dip into the various broths. One of my friends ordered a bubble tea drink - there's a bubble tea section within the restaurant; it looked decently fresh! Our dishes came rather quickly and each soup came with a side of white rice. Remember to manually ask for tap water, they don't serve those to you right when you're seated and you'll definitely need it to wash down some of the spice! The broths were all great, but the favorite was truly the signature naige Chinese sauerkraut & fish because it's as tart, spicy and yummy all in one! The tomato one brings in a nice spicy sweet taste too. Each soup is reasonably priced and honestly, we ordered way too much for 3 people - with rice, a soup can probably be shared between two people. Given how close this place is to my actual home, definitely looking forward to trying some other soups again!

Devouring the bowl of rice was a easy feat with how strong in flavors (and MSG) the soup is but it's not bad overall even though the green pepper soup isn't my style. A single portion was A LOT so seeing the double portions (BIG tray) to the next to me was wild. The only extra ingredient I requested was bean sprouts but there was a generous amount of other stuff in the soup already. Regular fish fillets is good and it doesn't absorb the soup but the higher quality in the fresh fish for a slightly higher price is apparent. And that one pepper symbol is definitely spicy so don't try if you can't handle spice. If you pay in cash, you could get any drink for $2 from their drinks menu which is a sweet deal (originally about $6) and definitely what you will crave for after having this meal. Went with the pineapple passionfruit tea which hit the spot.

When I first tried this place, my partner and I got pretty addicted. We were eating out at this place at least once a week. We usually get the sliced fish with green pepper soup, or hot and sour soup. The small size is good if you want to order several dishes to try. But after going here several times, we already have a favorite dish and usually just order the large bowl size and share. Portion for the price is great -- we always leave full and satisfied! Although, the spice level could be higher for us, it satisfies our craving for spicy food. We also really like the spicy cucumber. It's a refreshing side dish. This was one of the places my partner and I really craved during the pandemic, since we couldn't dine out. We opted for takeout. Delivery was very fast and food arrived nice and hot. They had a special where you get free chili chicken if you spend over $20. The chicken was very good. However, the cucumber we ordered was not as flavorful as we remembered. Everything came nicely packed (utensils are packaged if you're worried about covid) and portion was consistent with portions served in restaurant (this was one of my concerns... the bowls/portions in the restaurants were big so I worried we would not get the same amount for takeout)! Overall, it satisfied our craving!

Sliced fish with green pepper soup 青麻椒酸菜魚

Recently open restaurant at 8ave Brooklyn We came here on weekday around 7pm. It's not crowded. Here is what we got: Black fungus with vinegar 老醋木耳 Taste a little bit plain, fungus soak little bit too long. I wouldn't recommend this appetizer. Addiction beef 過癮牛肉 I like it's not spicy, good for everybody. Has beef and lotus root together. The flavor is really good! Sliced fish with green peppercorn soup 青麻椒酸菜魚 The fish seems cut a bit too big, too chunky! But overall the flavor is really good. Not too spicy, with a hit of Sichuan peppercorn taste. The soup also has cabbage and beans sprout in it. Love it! Poached sliced beef 水煮牛肉 Not too spicy and the soup is drinkable. The beef is pretty tender and also has cabbage and beans sprout in the soup. They also have another 2 store in manhattan and flushing. The dishes was pretty good with fairly price. Will come back again!

    Naige chinese sauerkraut fish

I had lunch with my boyfriend here and we were able to get seated immediately. We ordered two fish dishes and rice bowls to share. We chose naige chinese sauerkraut fish and poached sliced fish. The food was really flavorful and we really enjoyed our meal. We thought both the portion and the price were good as well!

Naige Chinese Sauerkraut fish, Sliced fish with Tomato Soup

Came here with my girlfriend and friend who's a girl. Really good sauerkraut/tomato soup fish here, one of our favorites!

Staple was found inside my fish dish.
    Jing H.

Horrible. I ordered from DoorDash. This is the worst take out EVER. I chewed a staple from their supposedly signature saurekraut fish dish. Secondly, there are hardly any Chinese saurekraut found inside the dish at all, instead they gave you sprout and cabbage as filler. The dish's taste was blend and not authentic. Don't ever order from this shop!

    Nice interior decor

Got the Beef with Kimchi rice noodle ($9.95)and was surprised it came separated. The ingredients were kept fresh from the hot soup. Very fun way of serving this dish! My husband got the Sliced Fatty Beef with Kimchi Soup ($8.95) which came with a bowl of rice. Lots of meat and rice. Broth and meat were really good. This broth is one of the spicier ones so if it's not for you, try the Hot and Sour Soup. There was a lot of food. Probably enough for 2 people per order Atmosphere was really nice and spacious. Address is wrong btw, it's actually 774

Very delicious and filling. I ordered two entries for the two of us but we weren't able to finish it. Next time one bowl between the both of us. The beef bowl was great, but be warned that it's very spicy. The seafood dancing comes with 3 big shrimps. There is a lot of veggies to fulfill your daily veggie needs! The beancurd skin was absolutely amazing and a great contrast to the savory tasting soup. I would say the fungus is a bit too sour for me. I highly recommend this place for lunch or dinner.

The pork intestine is bit chewy. Otherwise the flavor is good. 8/10 The seafood tom yum soup noodle: mild tom yum flavor. The soup base is slightly on the sour side. The brown sugar is missing some caramelized flavor. So it is a sweet rice ball. 5/10 I think the temperature inside would be fine if you go during a cool day. When it's a hot day, the restaurant could get very hot even if they turn on both ACs. With just 2 ACs insides, and eating a hot bowl of spicy soup noodle, we were all sweating inside. Though the food is good, I would not return during summertime. It's just too hot to enjoy a good bowl of hot soup noodle.

I asked to sub rice for noodles because one of my kids is a rice pot (can't go without rice) and requested extra sauce, which they kindly provided. The set meals are a fantastic deal; a full size entree, an appetizer and a drink for $19-20. An extra order of noodles is $2.50 and it's really double the amount of noodles that comes in your entree. I also ordered their new dish with has abalone and sea cucumber; this is not part of a set meal. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It has that umami sweetness that comes from a great soup base and the noodles are delicious as usual. The abalone was tender, the sea cucumber had a bite to it. There was fish maw and wood ear in there as well.

We walked into a simple, fast casual setup that focuses more on the food than the atmosphere, with a clean, functional space designed for quick meals and takeout rather than lingering. The ordering counter is straightforward, and the staff moves efficiently, keeping the flow moving even during busy lunch periods. The hand pulled noodles are the biggest highlight, with thick, chewy strands that have a satisfying texture and hold onto the sauces well. We ordered a few different noodle dishes, and the flavors leaned bold with chili oil, spices, and savory seasonings that give the dishes their signature Shaanxi style profile. The stewed pork and beef options were both generous and filling, but the lamb dishes stood out with a strong cumin flavor that brought a deeper, more aromatic taste to the table. The lamb burger is another unique item, combining seasoned lamb with a crispy, handheld format that feels different from typical restaurant offerings. The noodles themselves are the main draw, but the lamb burger is worth adding to the order if you want to try something beyond the bowl. Service is quick and efficient, making it a convenient option for lunch or a casual dinner. Portions are generous for the price, and the menu has enough variety to try different dishes across multiple visits. The spice level can be adjusted, but many dishes naturally lean toward bold and spicy flavors, so keeping that in mind is worth it if you prefer milder food. Xi'an Famous Foods is a reliable spot for anyone craving hand pulled noodles and strong, flavorful Chinese dishes. The chewy noodles, cumin lamb, and unique menu items make it stand out from more traditional Chinese restaurants, especially for a quick meal that still feels distinctive and satisfying. It is not a place for a long, leisurely dinner, but for a fast, flavorful bowl of noodles that delivers on texture and spice, it hits the mark well.
