He gave me a full set of x rays, and said he can try to save this tooth, by doing a root canal. If not, and extraction and an implant. Well he saved it!! Chipped my tooth, went in for emergency filling in my molar. Been hurting for three months, went to a different dentist did the X-ray, turned out there's a huge gap between the fillings and the tooth. I can't believe how terribly the fillings were done. Even thought everyone at the office is nice , now it's costing me way more to fix the tooth. I found this dentist by chance because I needed a new crown; the old one broke and insurance would not cover a new one for another 4 years, the out of pocket from my existing dentist was $2200 cash price! I was seen by the daughter (?) of the primary, who did an exceptional job, did exactly what I came here for, and turnaround on a new crown was 2 weeks (my previous dentist needed 4). I'm not one to divulge prices, but their prices and service made me realize dental insurance is a SCAM; their all in price was less than my out of pocket insured. I was super excited when I first found Dr. Lam, as I needed a root canal badly, and my insurance was not trying to cover it. The cash price was very reasonable for a root canal and a 'porcelain' crown, and now I understand why. About 6 months after I got the crown, I noticed a hole in the middle of it. I asked my primary dentist about it, but he didn't seem concerned. October 2022, a little over a year after my root canal sessions were finished and I had my crown place. Like an Apple product right after its warranty expires, my crown decided to fail. I contacted their office, hoping I would be able to get my crown repaired and re-affixed to my tooth, hoping they would back up their work. I was charged $60, which should've been free given how quickly the crown failed. It is now January 2023, another hole has developed and my crown has once again come off. This time, I unfortunately ended up chomping down on it while I was eating. I'm hoping no other damage was done as biting 'porcelain' is not what your teeth are made for. The moral of the story is to just save your $1100, and fly to Mexico for your root canal or any other procedure this office might offer for a 'reasonable' price. read more

COVID-19 update: 2 weeks ago, when I tried to make my first appointment, I was informed that they would only be open Monday to Wednesday. Eventually, I made my appointment for Tuesday. I was actually late by about 20 minutes, because the traffic has been awful; I drove from South Brooklyn to Chinatown, and every step of the way, there was construction or reduced lane usage. So plan ahead! Luckily, I only had to wait about 5 minutes, after a trek up 4 flights of stairs due to the 2-person-per-elevator rule. There was a huge tub of hand sanitizer sitting on the table, no one else in the waiting area, a plastic screen on the receptionist's desk, and the employees themselves all wore a hair net, glasses/safety glasses and masks. When I situated myself on the chair, the doctor brought over a large suction machine. "For the virus," he said. Let's hope it works? The cleaning was super quick, this time with both scaling, brushing and baking soda. This time, the doctor gave me a facial wipe for the baking soda, though I didn't manage to get all of it off my face (as usual). What I like is how painless and clean my teeth are. However, he did inform me that I might have a small cavity to check up on next time. Oh yeah, they increased their teeth cleaning price to $60 now. Funnily enough that's still cheaper than everything in Brooklyn and Manhattan out-of-pocket. read more

As this was my first visit to a dentist in 5 years, He has checked and x rayed all my mouth (as per my request). The most fair priced dentist ever, and also telling me what I don't need, or need yet. I drove 50 miles twice so far, and my fiancé will be getting some root canals from him soon...you can save so much on the same treatments you can get anywhere. Dr. Lam is a quick efficient guy, I got there on time however I was made to wait. He numbed me up with some topical agent, then stuck my gums with novacane to begin the root canal. I was afraid of the needle so he walked away from me to serve another patient. He was quick and stopped when I told him I felt weird about the sensory overload. His prices are fair, you'll never find a dentist to do a root canal for less than 1000 bucks in Manhattan. Marketing websites and dentist networks had been flooding me with so much dental spam. I dont know if they accidentally used my email address nor do i know how this happened. Today I contacted Nai Yan's office and informed them about the issue. I told them that I have even been receiving their patients dental correspondances as well as their patients dental records!. Dr. Lam has been my family dentist for about 20 years now (I remember playing Super Nintendo with his kids in the waiting room of his old office in the 90s). Thankfully, I've only ever needed cleaning and X-rays, so I can't speak to the more complicated procedures since I'm the (rinsing and) spitting image of health. Anyway, Dr. Lam is very friendly and always asks how my life is. He also speaks English very well, so don't let fear of a language barrier deter you! I can't tell if he's not taking as long on each patient or if he's just gotten more efficient, but teeth cleaning is as easy as can be. But like the other review mentioned, it ain't neat. I expected this to be a little rock bottom. Well - I was completely wrong. The office is clean, bright and seems to have all the latest gadgets. Yes - all of them speak fluent English. I took my daughter there who had a big cavity in on of her baby molar teeth. Doctor Lam had a quick look at it, suspected that the nerve was already affected and confirmed that with a quick x-ray. Instead of talking me into an expensive root canal procedure for a 9-year old he suggested to just pull the tooth, because the x-ray showed that the next permanent tooth was already waiting underneath. He immediately said that he could recommend me to a good pediatric dentist for a second opinion. To make a story short: Tooth got pulled. With examination, anesthesia and x-rays we paid a whopping 60 dollars. The doctor was always friendly, straight forward, professional and seemed very knowledgeable. The only thing to be said is: This guy gets straight down to business. If you want to talk how your day was or how the Yankees are doing this might not be the right place for you. For people like me who like the no BS - no sales pitch attitude this is just the right attitude. I personally had not been to a dentist in 18 years (I don't trust them). Sweet, I get another First Review! I am...the MAN! Doctor Lam is very good and very fast and efficient. He never really hard pushes treatments. But will tell you when something's wrong. He is probably as cheap as can be found. That said, it is very much a cash run business, as with many things in Chinatown. Cleanings are fast and efficient and done by Lam himself. It won't be the most luxurious cleaning you've had (you may have flouride all over your face - but they give u big wet naps after to wipe), but again, for value this is a good place. Had a filling done here once before and that was fine. At one point I had not gone to the dentist for over a year, and had a near root canal, but fortunately Lam was able to get in there and take care of it, and so far so good no root canal needed yet. Also, he will answer your questions, but he doesn't dally. It's not that he's unfriendly, it's just for the price point you can't expect him to loiter all day and answer my annoying repetitive questions about teeth. read more

It does look sketchy from the outside but trust me the quality of care is great and CHEAP. Dr.Lam quickly saw me and got to work on my teeth. I got a cleaning, x-ray and exam plus a porcelain crown. All of that totaled $490. I know $490 sounds like a lot of money but I have been to other dentists inquiring about this same thing and it would have cost me at least $2000 anywhere else in the city. Like others have said, the equipment is not the newest and if you are looking for a fancy high-tech swanky dentist, this is not it. If you are looking for a cheap, efficient, thorough and excellent dentist without all the other frills, I would suggest going to Dr.Lam. One thing I would do is be prepared to tell him exactly what you want done that day. Thank you Dr.Lam for not being as greedy as the other dentists out there.
