UPDATE- when I soaked off the acrylic, it would come off and instead got sticky. This COULD mean MMA monomer was used, which if it was, MMA illegal in California. I came in asking for long stiletto acrylics, the tips for the acrylic were cut before I was able to communicate what length I wanted. I ended up with short nails that I was told were very long. I asked multiple times for my nails to be made sharper and instead I got round shaped nails. I spent $72 and now I am taking them off at home because they were not at all what I wanted or what I showed in my inspo pic. Wish I could get a refund but I know that salons never give them out. They also cut my pinky finger and I had to point it out. read more

I really want to like this place because it's so close to my house. The owner is so sweet and very accommodating. This place has been on Sacramento and Presidio for 21 years! It's no frills and only has space for about 6 people. They open at 9:30am which is also a plus. Unfortunately, my pedicure yesterday resulted in a very red and swollen left big toe. I just hope my toe doesn't get worse, it's very painful. They also charge a very hefty fee if you use a credit card and don't disclose it, so be aware of that too. I wish them the best of luck but a swollen toe after my first visit is a sign I shouldn't return. read more

I came in to get my eyebrows done and they said it was $20. They ended up charging me $22 on my credit card when I gave it to them to pay (yes it's a small up charge but it was wrong). Mind you, I also gave her a large tip beforehand. My eyebrows were also not done well. The left one was cut too short and it ended up looking uneven. Came in for a gel mani pedi and had requested for Jenny when I made the appointment but was greeted by Madeline and Mai. Madeline was pleasant and very easy to work with, however, the whole experience with Mai was a different story. Throughout the session, Mai used each opportunity to upsell other services, asked me to pick a different color for my mail because they didn't have two nail polishes of the same color to apply both my nail and toes at the same time (bizarre, seeing I was the only customer at the shop, and there was no one waiting), then she haunted me to pay cash for the service (gel mani pedi came out to be $82) and tip. She then charged me one dollar extra for paying by credit card (without telling me, and after I gave her a 20% tip) - this is unheard of as the store clearly states they accept credit card payment. I liked the nails and Madeline but will be hesitant to return based on the whole interaction with Mai, and the way she handled the payment and her customer service. read more

Not your relaxing nail salon. The fluorescent lights were blinding at 5:10pm Wednesday, and they only had 80's love songs jam in the back of house. The ambiance was dead silent with two older Vietnamese ladies chatting back and forth. Gel manicure and pedicure came out to be $68. Both ladies helped me. They asked me to pay cash, which I only had $67. The manicure lady asked to take my $50 and to charge $18 on my credit card. She was adamant of a cash tip. Quickly after giving her tip, she turned her back and counted the cash in front of me. Then blurted sometime in Vietnamese to the other lady, and walked away. Not a pleasant exchange from her. I have been going to Nail Pretty for years, but will not be returning. I went 2 days ago for a mani/pedi. I was helped immediately, and had my pedi first. The woman (not Jenny) doing my pedicure placed the pedicure tools (which were not sealed in a sani pouch, but I was told were sanitized) on the bare floor. I questioned her and asked why she was putting the tools on the floor. She was quick to answer that she had been in the business for years. She didn't resterilize them and kept them on the floor. I have been going once in a while there for 20 years for mani pedis. Today, I went with my niece to get manicures only. We sat down and in the middle of the mani, she told me she has to do hair removal on another client. That was fine, I only had to wait 5 minutes. Then after she resumed working ony nails for another 5 minutes, two women came in and wanted to get gel manicures. Then I was told to leave the desk after she put lotion on my arms and hands. Then I sat at the waiting area while she started working on the woman who wanted gel manicure without being told why or how long I have to wait. When my niece was done with her manicure, I decided I no longer wanted to wait, so I told her I'd pay for our "service" and left. Not a word of apology from her. Had a Good first experience... went in today and was treated horrifically. The woman even lied and said that she was the manager... she wasn't. I was looking for colors and the woman was being pushy and a little insane. She kept being snotty and telling me what colors to choose. I don't wear bright orange and neon... then childish pink... Do not get acrylics done here!!! They charge so much ($80 for solid color, $90 for french tip) and one side of all my nails is filed too much, the shape is uneven and chunky. Some of them are not even the same size!! I asked for a color and she agreed, and when it was time for color, she told me they didn't have the color I had asked for... As far as having "my nail place", I'll never get any traction. Can't think far enough ahead to imagine scheduling an appointment. Instead, a sideways glance at my toes periodically reveals it's time to impose the no-flip-flop rule. The result? Different pedicure establishment every time. I was in this neighborhood hiding my toes when I realized I had time for a foot job. Sashayed in here where the pedis were under $25 and well-behaved dogs are welcome to sit in your lap. Grabbed some polish off the back wall, flipped on that massage chair and was good to go. The toes looked good, no complaints, and the polish job lasted a really long time. Most amusing was the bird who came in after me and stayed at the back wall selecting polish for what seemed like hours. When at last she took a seat she had to explain - repeatedly - which of the 2 mismatched colors she wanted as a bottom coat and which as a top coat. She'd been trying all these on back there, mixing and matching for just the right effect. I dunno, in my lifetime I've not given as much thought to my nails as this lady gave to selecting colors in this single visit. Which one of us is nuts? They have a great selection of O.P.I. and Essie colors and surprisingly good ventilation - very important since I dislike the occasionally overwhelming polish smell of other nail salons. She is extremely talented. I would have definitely say she blew me away. Normally when you get your tips painted like a french manicure, the manicurists always have to fix the "U" shape with a Q-Tip. The salon is nice and clean with massage chairs. There is a little white dog that sleeps in the corner on his bed. They have a calendar hanging on the wall with photos of the regular customers posing with the dog - love that. The mani pedi: three stars. Uneven paint, they got polish on every finger and toe repeatedly, then would have to wipe it off and they kept walking away to talk or answer the phone. Then 6 hours later my thumb got smudged which is a sign they thin out the polish with paint thinner of some kind. I won't be back sadly and will stick to Lucky Nails downtown from now on. read more

I have been going to Nail Pretty since the 90's and was so glad when they reopened. They have nailed the Covid protocols. Manicure stations had a fixed plexiglass shield and mani/pedi spa chairs and stations had moveable shields. I was totally enclosed with plexiglass when I went today. They still do a fantastic job, great massage and beautiful nails. Right now they are appointment only but they do accept walk ins if they have space. Worthwhile to inquire either by phone or walking by if you want to stop in quickly. I came in for a gel manicure. Mid-way through the manicure, a woman showed up for a pedicure and then my manicurist switched with another so that she can do the pedicure. Both women did a sloppy job. The first one didn't do a good job removing my last gel manicure, and the one that painted my nails did so carelessly. A couple of my nails have visible fibers showing up above the nail polish. I also had to ask for another layer on one of my nails because the nail polish was so uneven. I'm speculating- but I felt like I was being ridiculed for mentioning that I wanted to get acrylics done. The woman doing my nails looked at them and said that I have nice nails already and that I didn't need acrylics. Then she spoke to her coworkers in their language and started laughing. My daughter and I got gel manicures and pedicures and we are super happy with their job. After one week our nails still look perfect! That was our first visit and we did not know what to expect since the place was empty on a Saturday. Our regular nail place in the Mission was super booked for that day and since we had to go to Pac Heights for something different, we gave Nail Pretty a try. Since moving from the east bay, I needed to find a place to get a good set of fake gel nails, so I ventured a couple blocks from home to this place. They only had 3 women working at the time, so I had to wait about half an hr. This place seems to be a nail salon for stuck up white women as thats who was there while i was waiting. Snobby ladies yelling at the nail techs to paint their toes right. Anyways, I had one nail tech start on my nails, and then 10min later she switched with another lady, who then within 5 minutes said she was too sleepy to continue and passed me over to another lady while she decided to sleep in a pedicure chair. I usually get a french tip type of nail but instead of white, some kind of color, but opted for white tips this time...but all they had to offer was clear gel and then painted on the white tips which sucks cuz when painted on it never lasts! boo read more

Needed a little quick pick me up pedi without the fuss of driving or scheduling an app't. I went to Silk earlier in the day hoping for a walk-in - I drove, found parking, but no walk-ins available; only an app't 3 hrs later in the day. So, I went on with my day running around town and went i got home, I decided to go on a whim to see if there was an opening at Nail Pretty since its just a walk skip and jump away - no fuss and no muss! I picked my colour, waited a few minutes and voila, I was done and dry within 30 min. I only did the regular pedi, didn't really know the difference when they asked me thinking it was the scrub/paraffin thing (last time at another place i had a bad experience with fake lemon smelling scrub and lotion) and passed, but I think it's a matter of getting the massage chair vs sitting on a basic chair with a bucket of water brought over to you. Overall, as other yelpers stated, the ladies are friendly, don't seem disgruntled, are quick and efficient and neat. Cons, limited colour selection, not the greatest nor the must luxurious experience, but if you just want something quick, I'm a happy camper! read more

Had a really unpleasant experience here, asked for a gel mani and spa pedi and they were not happy to oblige and had a bad attitude the whole time as they thought it more convenient to have me do the non-spa version. They also didn't put a top coat on my pedi so the color did not have the standard finish that most pedicures have - when I asked them to put on the top coat they said it was already there. I've been walking by Nail Pretty for 3 years on my weekly journey to one of the other nail salons on Sacramento. I finally stopped in Nail Pretty yesterday and was thrilled. The owner, Naly, did my nails and she is really fast and very detailed. Her shop is clean, comfortable and their spa chairs are awesome. Great selection of OPI colors and stacks and stacks of current magazines. The women working here are really friendly and they make a big effort to chat with their clients. This was the first time in years that I've been sitting in my pedicure chair and was NOT wondering what or who the ladies were talking about. Somebody tipped these gals off that they might get better tips if they speak the language..and it works. $35 + tip gets you a spa manicure, pedicure, paraffin dip and 10 minute foot massage.
