I came here to get my hair done. It's a place right in my neighborhood, but I've never been. I had a Groupon so I decided to come and oh my God best decision ever. They took care of my hair. I've had many haircuts in the past and I've done adventurous things with my hair, but I was looking for something more natural but still stylish and cool looking and they hooked me up. My hair has never looked like this, I am in love with it. I love the hairdresser. She was so nice and talkative, and it was really comforting to be there. She even gave me advice on how to take care of my hair when I went home and products to use to style it since I was new to actually letting my hair be curly. The consummate people person who is never falsely ingratiating, you feel like you are talking to someone you have known for a very long time. Once you arrive at their long-standing business, you do not feel like a client or fixed entity as you enter an anything but pretentious space that seems familiar. I observed other persons there who spontaneously embraced staff. The interactions displayed represented the quintessential sense of community that is lacking in our society. The technicians are phenomenal. They are curious but never indiscreet when and if they pose questions. They also seem to sense which customers may not want to engage in conversations, opting to mindfully and fully experience their mini-vacation. Attention to detail is respected and you are treated phenomenally in a non-judgmental setting. On my only day off, which was Sunday, my friend and I decided to treat ourselves. We discovered Susan's Nail Salon and met LANA and ZARINA, and our experience was absolutely wonderful! Initially I felt like I walked into the set of the Roseanne Show but the vibe and energy of the people were very friendly and chill. I met Susan the owner and she was very nice. She told me they were a bit behind on schedule because I scheduled an appointment but to just wait a bit and that was fine. I ended up getting a regular mani/pedi and Kim who did it for me was pleasant too. She Did a great job and i was very please with my nails and the service. Overall I love neighborhood spots to support local businesses. As for parking...just a heads up, it's can get filled up quickly so you'll probably have to find street parking instead like I did. read more

I walked in one day to get a Manny and they were able to squeeze me in, which was great. For when I went to choose my there were no yellows, but one so the variation of colors is limited. I did my pedicure first. The first red flag was when my pedicures removed the plastic from the back of the sticky emery board and then put a whole hand in the trashcan. Without changing her glove. The second red flag was when she went to rinse off the scrub from my leg. She used the same water that was already in the tub that she had previously used to soak my foot after scrubbing. The third red flag was that she did not change her gloves after she was finished with the to put on my nail polish. The fourth was lightness in touch as she was barely rubbing in the cream with mediocre massaging movements. For the cost of getting a manicure today I don't necessarily expect to go in and just get nail polish popped on my toes read more

Update: pinky just chipped out of nowhere and rude replies from owner who doesn't even acknowledge or admit to what reviewers say I really wanted to like this place because of the great reviews and the staff were super friendly and seemed to have many regulars. Unfortunately, that was not the case. First off, the Russian lady who answers the phone kept putting me on hold and was very confused. I had called to say I was going to be late and she said she didn't even have me in the appointment book, yet the owner days before had confirmed the date and time of my appt. Their hours aren't easy to find on Yelp or Groupon or Google, so I had to look at multiple links until I found their FACEBOOK page, not even their website has their hours, only the days they're open and closed. I got my nails done around 2pm and at 9:30 one nail fell off ENTIRELY and I noticed the chipping on my other nails. I have never had this happen from a regular manicure at the salon. Maybe it's because the polish was a knockoff of Essie because I thought it was Essie but when I went to take a picture of the name of the color it was some other brand. The lady who did my nails was nice but she kept talking to the other nail techs and would completely stop doing my nails mid-stroke to talk to them. This caused her to miss painting one part on my thumb (very small but I can still see the and I know it's there so it bothers me) and a hardened chunk from the bottle to get on my other nail (which she took off thankfully after I pointed it out). When I told her about the spot that didn't have polish she said she'd have to do the whole nail over because if she just went over it, it'd clump or something. The staff were really friendly and even got me a water from the store but omg I'm so upset. I did this Groupon for a really good price and should've known I'd get what I paid for... In terms of the salon itself, there wasn't any soap in the bathroom and there was a lot of hair on the floor, even by the nail desks. I read a review stating this same thing where the owner replied that there's a cleaning lady but from my whole 2 hours in the salon I didn't see any cleaning person or anybody sweep. There also aren't any fans or drying stations, you just sit there. The music was low and there aren't any TVs. It took me 2 hrs to get there so there's no way I'm going back (when I saw Brooklyn I assumed Williamsburg or Bushwick). I'm just so annoyed that this happened. Oh well. You live you learn! Before and after pics are below. AGAIN THE PEOPLE ARE VERY FRIENDLY but this is about the *SERVICE* that I paid for and it didn't live up to basic nail salon standards of not chipping or completely falling off a few hrs later. I didn't do anything to promote or cause the polish to completely fall off either. It's just a lot of effort for nothing. I'll be staying in Manhattan from now on. read more

I have been coming to Susan since I was five years old and have practically grown up in this salon. As a little girl I only got my nails done and as I became an adult I started doing all my waxing here. Mila is the eyebrow queen! She shapes and creates the perfect eyebrow for every face. I have never had my eyebrows or any other waxing as good as Mila. She is truly the best in the business. No one and I mean no one touches my eyebrows. I stopped getting my nails done here as I no longer live in the neighborhood but this is defintely a service that one should try if they visit the salon. Every technician is as good as the next and they provide quality manicures. I absolutely recommend coming here for any and all waxing. BTW Mila does a mean facial. Everyone here was so sweet Susan the owner was nice I was able to book an appointment the same day. There was a lady who did my nails can't remember her name but she was great at shaping my nails and didn't take long at all. Unfortunately the polishing part of my gel mani/pedi was pretty messy , the nail polish wasn't spread equally some nails were painted all the way to the fingernail, some were not painted on the side of the nail. It was just inconsistent. I will still be on the hunt to look for a perfectionist who specializes in doing natural nails. Shaping and perfect nail polish is key. read more

Nails by Susan was a nice enough salon. I usually wax my own eyebrows, but I went out on a limb and got them done there. The technician did a beautiful job! Although I must say, the waxing room had melted wax all over the place and looked like it hadn't been cleaned up in a while. I also got a pedicure which was pretty good, not outstanding, but overall good. Maybe my expectations were too high after seeing the other reviews, but like most other inexpensive salons, things were not impressively clean and the techs would go in and out of speaking English (so you're worried they're talking about how gross your feet are or something). Worst manicure ever!!! Two minutes into my manicure the girl gets a phone call, she answers and says "I'll be done in 5 minutes". From that moment I knew it was going to be a horrible manicure. No soaking in water, no lotion, no hot towel, no hand massage. Just a quick file, painful jabbing at my cuticles, and quick paint job, which was interrupted by several phone calls and texts. Manicure lasted about 10 minutes, would have been 5 like she promised if she wasn't answering her phone every 30 seconds. To sanitize their tools they spray them with alcohol. Susan gives the best regular manicure that actually LASTS. Sure, there are places you can go to where you think you're getting a bargain, but the nails chip in a day. Susan's manicures are the best bc they LAST so long! Her customers call it "the one and only 'Susan' manicure!" Plus, she is very gentle with your nails and cuticles, and she is just awesome to talk to about anything! Mila is the best for waxing and facials. I trust nobody else with my eyebrows, lip, bikini area, etc. except her. She has a special degree for her job so she really knows what she's doing whereas other places leave you with crooked eyebrows, holes, missing ends, and skin irritations. She also does a ton of manicures and waxing for men. All the other girls, especially Lisa and Antonella, are great for any kind of wrap, pedicure, permanent French, Tips, and/or gel manicure. The jobs comes out stunning!! They use the best powder (top of the line) to wrap the nails so they stay strong. They also do a meticulous job with any design or line you want added. They are also great with gel manicures. They use the brands Gelish and Shellac, which give you a huge variety of awesome colors. The nails never break bc they use prime material at this place. Dara gives an amazing haircut, and does a phenomenal job with coloring, highlights, keratin treatments, styling curls for a night out on the town, and much more. I trust nobody with my hair except her. She also gives a killer blowout. This place also has an awesome boutique with tons of purses, wallets, clothes, hair pieces, gloves/scarves, and costume jewelry. Natalie runs the boutique very nicely and always has the most recent fashionable and trendy items. I'm always buying cute things to add to my weekend outfits and dates while I'm here! What I also like about this place is how everything is so sterile and clean. Spotless as always and smells fresh! By far the worst nail job I have ever gotten and could I also mention they are quite racist as well. So I bought a groupon for a mani and pedi and I came about 45-1 hour late. But I did call saying I will be late and the front desk clerk said sure no problem without asking how late I would be. I finally got there and everyone just gave me a strange look (as I am an african american woman) the only one in the store while everyone else was white. They had the look of what is she possibly doing here. So the lady at the front desk was extremely rude and told me "oh you're too late, we can't take you but you can reschedule" and I replied saying "I can't reschedule because I am an extremely busy person I will not have any time soon to come back" so with a look and tone of disgust she like "ughh i'll find someone to take you" she led me to this table with an old russian woman who was set to do my manicure which was a AWFUL job, she didn't cut my cuticles, screamed at me like "push back or cut" and I asked her what it meant she didnt reply so I told her don't scream at me. She literally butched my cuticles and I bled a couple times. When she started applying the nail polish it looked like my niece did my nails (just nasty!!!) there was polish all over the sides. Then to make it WORST they have no where for you to dry your nails). So im sitting there just incredibly pissed off. Then she took a disinfectant and sprayed it all over where I got my nails done and the utensils she used for my manicure. So im thinking I didnt see her do that for the previous customers.... So after about 10 minutes I got up with anger and walked out feeling entirely upset and discriminated. Later the front desk clerk ran outside like "excuse me, you dont want your pedicure"? I didnt realize when tears just started streaming down my eyes like "look at my nails their so ugly my cuticles are messed up and I've never been so racially discriminated in my life" (I cried not because of the nails but the fact that I paid for this service and was ill-treated, and GOD knows I had some rude things to say but just keeping it in for the sake of being the bigger person pissed me off) they "no we're not racist, we have a black girl working here, Trinidadian I think...." (and im here thinking just because you have a black employee doesn't make you a non-racist, you don't even know her name but you you label her based on her origin...right) So they're like come back we'll do your pedicure real nice (which also came out as a total disaster). She later gave me a nail filer, travel size lotion and a keychain for their store stating "we're sorry you felt this way" (threw all of it in the garbage) I went home and literally removed all the nail polish. COMPLETE WASTE OF MONEY AND TIME!!! I will never return back here and I advise anyone who wants a well done mani and pedi to learn from my experience. read more

I made an appointment on Sunday for a gel manicure, keratin and eyebrows. When I arrived I found parking easily and was taken precisely at my appointment time. My gel manicure was the best I've ever had and they even managed to smooth out my nails after being damaged by a badly done silk wrap. My eyebrows were done with so much attention to detail and came out so beautiful. The Coppola keratin treatment I got was exceptional, the best I've ever had. all the bad reviews on here and google made me nervous but i couldn't be happier! christine was lovely and her son was funny too. everyone is so warm and pleasant and funny toward the regulars. everyone was so welcoming and friendly. the groupon made it so much better! ill definitely be back, groupon or not. the pedicure was fabulous, about 45 mins of deep cleaning/scrubbing/filing plus a foot massage. my natural toenails are just ick and i was actually nervous for the pedicure, but christine really got in there even better than i do myself, and i hadn't touched my toes in months (thanks, college). they look so amazing! im still flabbergasted! i can't wait to go back and i hope to have an even bigger tip for my nail tech (hopefully i get christine again, haha). i would recommend going in, espec if you get a good deal on groupon (who can beat a mani pedi for less than $ 15?) on top of all that, i had a deep crack at the side of my thumb and christine took it upon herself to fix it with some silk, which i didn't even know you could do haha. she offered it without me even asking! and boy does it look great and my nail is much stronger without worry of it snagging something and snapping off. just great people who deserve your business :) read more
