I had Toni, and she is fabulous. I am admittedly a picky customer. A couple of examples of my pickiness include the shape I like being fairly unusual and difficult to explain, I'm big on sparing myself as many harmful chemicals as I can so I prefer no base coat under a polish free of many of the known toxins in nail polish (which they carry!), I don't like my cuticles cut because it is hard to trust they won't be cut too much and cause fraying. She was so lovely, accommodating and skilled! The shape is beautiful and even. She is an artist! Her steady had polished my nails all the way to the edge without getting on my skin at all. She was so through in cleaning up my nails and cuticles, which had accumulated quite a bit, and yet did not overdo at all. She is my new favorite manicurist in the world! read more

No more. The week Nails La Vie first opened, my friend suggested we try it. Since then, I've been coming by, not every week, but several times a year. It wasn't the best service, some visits went better than others, and the lavish attention and niceties are long gone. For example, what happened to the refreshments? The TV? The massage chairs are on their last legs and sometimes don't work. But it's less than a ten minute drive from where I live. Guess I'm not that memorable because today they decided to check my currency for counterfeit bills. I won't be back and I said that to the manager, Ann, but I don't think she comprehended. I try not to give my money to people who think it's funny money. Didn't leave a tip, either, when I usually tip 20%, yes, 20% because I waited tables back in the day. I actually asked BankOH if they had safeguards to ensure that bills dispensed from their ATMs are the real deal. I was assured they do. So when vendors check my cash, and not that of others, they're signaling I'm not trustworthy. Fine, then you don't need my money. Typically, we Sagittarians don't like our integrity questioned or getting profiled. This rarely happens to me on the Mainland, once in the last four trips. Reverse discrimination? Odd, because we suffered a lot because of my dad's Polynesian looks, but looking Euro, must I also be treated poorly? Profiling doesn't tell the whole story of one's life. If I ever do return, because it took me eight minutes to drive home in rush hour traffic, I will bring loose quarters. But there are a gazillion store front mani-pedi shops in this town; surely there's one five minutes away. BEWARE THE HARD SELL: This insult happened even after I allowed the aesthetician to talk me into more services than I originally planned, to the tune of $89. Upselling is routine. WARNING: Parking looks open and free but may not be. A sign was posted that whoever manages that strip mall is giving out tickets to cars parked there. I usually do my own nails but decided to treat myself since this weekend is Mother's Day. I was on a time crunch so I got the basic pedicure with gel polish. Somehow, I ended up being charged $70+ dollars for a 30 minute pedicure. I don't know what I paid extra for because the lady I asked couldn't really speak English, and the pamphlet she showed me said $30 for a pedicure and $25 extra for gel (which is ridiculous in the first place). I can buy an entire bottle of OPI Gel polish for under $20 in which will last for 10+ pedicures. Needless to say, I will not be returning to this place. read more

My first time here. I got the $28 pedicure. I had a cut on one of my toes and pointed it out to the lady ahead of time so she could avoid it. She repeatedly grabbed that toe which was very painful. And when I reminded her I had the cut she said "she forgot". Then, as she was cutting my toenail, she cut too deep which was very painful and it was bleeding everywhere! When I pointed out the blood, she said it was my fault she cut me bc I "let my toenails grow too long". Very mediocre service overall! How long have I been in need of a mani pedi? Practically since birth. How many times have I had a mani pedi? Twice, including today at Nails La Vie. I came with friends who are regulars. I opted for the super basic mani pedi which is $40. They patiently tended to my overgrown talons without commenting on how poorly maintained my poor feet are. This was greatly appreciated as I was feeling super anxious before my appointment. My friends opted for the gel sets and I was so envious of their nails! They looked so good! The time I went here, I needed to replace my stilettos. For anyone who does not knowEverything was going smoothly as I was doing my pedicure. Then I went over to this younger girl for my manicure. I already told her earlier that I do not want my nails to be ripped off. I rather wait longer for the stilettos to be taken off gently. She did not listen, then my mom has to jump in and was all pissed. The service was terrible...if I recall there may have been a lady defending the girl, but lady the customer is always right. We literally just walked out of the salon because of their lack of customer service. It was nice that they had an opening, but now we understand why they were able to take us as walk-ins. Here's why: The three middle-aged Vietnamese women workers that were there are the most pushiest, impatient, and rudest pedicurists I have ever come across. First of all, talk about rude! The moment we got to the door, one of them loudly "greeted" us with, "3 pedicure?! You get appointment? No! Das okay. Go pick color!" and "kindly" directed us to their nail polish selection. Second of all, talk about impatient! One of my friends, C, had specific colors and design in mind, so she was searching for polishes similar to what she wanted. While as, my other friend, S, and I had no idea what we wanted, so we were just looking here and there for "the one" that interested us. The whole time we were looking for polishes, the three women were standing on the side just watching us and talking (I'm sure about us). Like, I know I have a big bag, but you don't have to worry about me stealing your polishes, ladies! Chill After less than 5 minutes, the 3 workers asked you, "you ready?! Ready?!" Uhhh... Obviously we weren't ready! Our eyes were still looking at the polishes, as we discussed our likes and possibilities. So we politely shook our heads and smiled as we replied, "no, sorry, not yet " to which they grumbled and talked amongst themselves (again, I'm sure about us). At this particular time, friend S was already peeved. She doesn't like rude and impatient people - I mean, who does?! So she was ready to walk away... But we stayed. After 5 minutes or so (the right color is important, people!!), friend S managed to find a color that she liked. Yay!! But guess what happened?! (Here's the third of all) One of the women GRABBED the nail polish out of her hand and directed S to follow her. That pushy and rude behavior resulted in S turning into her "oh hell no!" mode, so she turned to us and said, "guys, I'm ready to leave if you are..." At the time, C and I weren't aware of the inappropriate behavior of the worker towards S, so we were kind of perplexed as to why S was as upset as she was. But "all for one, and one for all," right? A dear friend treated me to a much needed mani/pedi as a belated birthday present at Nails La Vie. I jumped at the chance, being that the last time I had one was during the Clinton administration...Alright, I'm totally exaggerating but it felt like it'd been that long. The first thing I noticed about this establishment was the smell...or the lack there of. You know that strong chemical smell that lots of nail places have? The kind of smell that makes you feel like you're steeping in toxins while having your toenails painted? You won't find that here. The decor is also tasteful & almost spa-like. My friend & I both got a basic pedi & a gelish manicure. Extra designs were offered without the pressure or snarky attitude when declined. It was my first time getting gelish polish & boy, am I believer now! A little more pricey than other salons but I'll pay a little more to not have roaches walking by as I get a pedi. I made an appointment to see her one Friday morning and I was happy to see my old friend! The shop is very nice, and located right next to Lani Kai Juice with ample parking (but I went first thing in the morning, so it may get busier throughout the day). I wasn't worried about the quality of my manicure, since I know how well my tech works, but the price for just a Gelish Manicure was almost as much as a Gelish Manicure & Regular Pedicure Combo at my regular shop! First time here. Parking is great - free and close enough to Kahala Mall if need be. Ok, so no chemical smells to ward you off and/or make you pass out during the session. The entire salon is clean and orderly, primarily because they havent been in this location for a while. I do have to say that the interior was a bit utilitarian. Yes, they had the pretty pictures up and enough stations - more pedis than manis. But after you run out of conversation with your stylist, you are forced to talk about the weather or stare in front of you which is either a wall or the parking lot. No tv or radio playing for background noise. Walk-ins are welcome, and for myself, the wait was no more than 5 minutes, spent selecting the nail color. Service is oookkkkaaaaayyy. I mean, at least I didnt have to paint my own nails? ( oh the tragedy) And my lady did a decent job. She made it go on the skin, but cleaned it up well. I have been going to this nail salon for about a year now.... and I love it! Everyone here is really, really friendly and very professional. I would call to make a reservation to be safe, but usually you can also get serviced quickly when walking in. I have both walked in and called for a reservation and I always get serviced in a timely manner. I usually get gel nails and they are reasonably priced. The technicians here all speak great English and it is nice to have good conversation and properly get across what you want to say. This was my very first time here. I normally try to call ahead even if its for a pedi appointment. The receptionist was very nice and said "yes please come in". Once I walked in I was greeted by my nail technician Toni. She was the sweetest lady. She showed me the menu explained the pedicures they had to offer. I choose the Signature Pedi for $47. It came with an extra massage, paraffin wax and callus removal in addition to the regular pedi services. She took her time, gave me a long massage, was very polite and did an amazing thorough job. My cuticles and heels feel so clean. She was sure to get my toes dried before sending me out. Throughout my entire service she constantly checked on me to be sure I was okay and having a great experience. So FIVE STARS for my Technician Toni! I will be back soon. My only complaint was the chatter between the younger technicians. It would be so nice to relax and enjoy the calm music playing in the salon, but the chatter overpowered the music. My friend treated me to a mani/pedi at this "Natural" Nail Salon. The parking for this place is very limited as it shares a lot with Lanikai Juice. I actually had to find street parking. Outside the salon several employees were sitting out side the door chatting and smoking cigarettes. GROSS! The inside is very cute and they have like 7-8 pedicure chairs. They have a nice little set up. The chairs were very comfortable and fully functioning. There is nothing worse than preparing for a little massage and then come to find out the chair is broken. I had a guy who did my nails. He was very professional, quick, and very friednly. AWESOME! There doesn't seem to be anything Natural about this salon as opposed to other places. The nail polish remover and other chemicals had the same stench. We enjoyed our time at Nails La Vie, but I dont think I will be returning as there are so many other salons to try! I went here after my massage because it was right next door. I asked for the mani+pedi combo and that's what I got for $38. Tony was a new nail tech there was very considerate and nice. He was even truthful when he told me that the white tips on a frenchie would chip in the water- love the honesty. I tipped him the extra $ I would have spent up the upgrade, and just got the regular polish. The salon had top grade polish and products, it was clean, and the service was fast and done to perfection- toe cuticles trimmed and filed the right way! Generally impressed! This place isn't cheap, but at least I felt like my money bought me a good experience. (And more classy and clean than I experienced at the salons in Vietnam, itself) James did my "relaxation pedicure" and it was awesome. First, I loved that you could choose your polish from an assortment of OPI shades as well as a line of colors without some toxic chemical add-ins. Second, I felt like I was getting some real professional treatment -- the nail implements came out in what appeared to be sanitized bags, the products all smelled clean and fragrant (not at all harsh), and the pedicure treatment was done gently and carefully (he even wore gloves while trimming, cleaning and massaging my feet). And the foot/leg exfoliation and massage were so relaxing! The relaxation treatment was $35 and lasted about 45 minutes (regular pedicure is $28) - a decent value for the money. And especially so considering that the staff were fairly respectful and didn't gab away in Vietnamese too much while you're trying to relax and feel comfortable. I'll be back! ***ETA*** Sadly, my pedi chipped off in just a week. Maybe it was the poor staying power of the toxin-free polish, or maybe it was sub-par application. This review is long over due. I finally found a place where I can come in regularly to do my nails. The salon is clean overall and they use disposable liners for each pedicure (two thumbs up just for that alone). The gel selection is plentiful and amazing! When I come in, I have to see Jenny. She is so accommodating and she isn't pushy with her services like the other nail salons I have been to prior. She does excellent work and always asks me first what I would like, but of course being a newbie and having no creative eye, I openly welcome any suggestions she has on the design. She has never failed me and I have always been impressed each time I went to see her for a pedicure. Today, Jenny accommodated me last minute for my wedding this Friday, which I am so grateful for. This was my first time here and I have to say, this has been the best acrylic manicure I ever had. Thanks to T. I just needed to do my nails again after a horrible job on my last ones. Decided to try out somewhere else that was close to my job and this is where I end up. Best decision, and I think this will be my go-to place for now on. I got to say, their price is a little more than the usual place I go to. Hey, at least I get what I paid for. The only thing was that I felt like she rushed at the end. New customers came in so she rushed the massage and just pretty told me to wash my hand and I was done. No double checking if my nails were alright or in good shape. I have been coming here for several years now and I am never disappointed with the service, quality of work, and sanitary practices that Ann and her staff practice. I have gone to other establishments in the Kaimuki and Kapahulu area that I would not be able to say the same for. A few things to speak on; A particular person, and the business overall, as well as why I need good pedicures so badly! I have been an athlete off an on and as such have a somewhat chronic issue with ingrown toe nails. Reading articles from salons and medical professionals alike I know that they need to be dealt with a certain way. I have tried for years to 'enjoy' pedicures but have only done it to keep up appearances and keep my toenails safe. They used to always hurt. I established a habit of once a month pedicures and eventually ran into Jenny who now works at Nails La Vie. I found her at another salon and followed her straight to Nails La Vie. Jenny does work on my feet that not only fixes the issue long term, but is not painful in the process. I think most other people are inexperienced with a situation as bad as mine. I had to be in a cast and in four months the situation only barely came back. With other people it would come back before a month was even over. Jenny never over sells me on services. Not too much pressure. She makes sure I get exactly what I need and want and has been that way at both facilities. I resent the day I have to move off island because I really don't know if I will find anyone even half as good as Jenny. She is worth my time, and I have to be honest, I don't even tip for these services normally, but I do tip her! As for the facility- it is nice, and functional. I never get the feeling that I am having the same styles used 5 years ago from outdated salons, and the chairs are always maintained. I have never sat down in one that didn't massage properly. Some salons/spas have issues with temperature regulation of the water, and this one has always worked for me. The facility is also more endearing toward their guest in that they allow the salon professional to use the necessary amount of supplies, where in other salons they use maybe one quarter of an ounce lotion, or scrub. It was almost an insult how little product would be used when you considered how much would be paid. Even though it is not like a Hilton spa, it is still the nicest salon outside of a resort that I have been to, and is CHEAPER than ones of equal quality. I know that there might be a time where I have an event and Jenny might be booked. This would make me very sad, but the salon is good enough to where I would still use someone else... but I would be wishing it was Jenny the whole time! Hands down the best person to work on my feet ever! So much so that I even started getting manicures. She has great taste and never leads me astray. If she gets too booked after this review I might have to delete it... because she is awesome and I need her! read more

This is my go-to place to get my nails done. Pedicures are $28, which is not a bad deal. The whole pedicure took about 30 minutes and I definitely wish it lasted longer because I was so relaxed. The pedicure chairs have the massage feature, and there's little curtain dividers in between each seat for privacy. There's about 8 seats in the salon, so there's hardly ever a wait, which I appreciate since I'm not prone to planning ahead and making an appointment. They use nice scrubs and lotions as an exfoliant and massage during the pedicure. Parking is limited in the complex -- it's right by LANIKAI Juice across from the Kahala mall so you may have to park across the street and walk over. Only thing I thought was weird (although sanitary) is that all their nail technicians wear latex gloves which feels a little weird against your skin. (Hah.) Definitely a good, affordable option and extra points for the cleanliness of the place. read more

This nail salon was AMAZING!! I am from out of state, out here visiting family. My Mother, Grandmother and I all got their signature pedicure. My Grandmother and I also got out nails done. This was my first ever pedicure and it was amazing! They are SSOO nice and gental with your feet. The shop is very clean and they use little wraps around the foot bath and change them for each new client. They have a large variety of colors for you to choose from. They have nice massage chairs while you get your pedicure done and offer you refreshing lime/lemon water. They were amazing with my grandmother. She is 88 and tends to repeat herself sometimes, they were very nice and patient with her, talking to her and helped her to the nail drying machine. They also opened the door and helped us with my grandmother to the car! I would definitely recommend this shop and will be back for my next trip out here!! read more

I'm more of a natural person so I love to have my fingernails buffed as opposed to painted and clean for a professional manicure finish. Although, they do have other nail options. They have an ample array of colors and upscale brands. Ann always gets the latest in season as well as the classic stylish colors. The ladies here are fantastic as well in asking for your preferences. They are professional and friendly. Pedicures here are a delight with variety of options and even an offer of a deeper and longer massage on hands and legs. Kelly never fails to give me the best foot massages. That is the best part of my pedicure and my feet love me for it. I never feel as if it's a "quick and it's done" service rather I get the "I deserve the pampered Princess" royal treatment. Back Story: I have been picking my nails since I was little. Recently I have gotten fed up with how gross they look, so I have been hopping around nail salons to find a good fit for; price, cleanliness, and technique. I had been to Nails La Vie a couple of times in the past and I enjoyed the pedicures and manicures so I thought I would give them a try for gel. Side note: My habit makes me very self cancious of how short and dry my nails look. At La Vie I have yet to experience judgment on how my nails/ cuticles/ feet look- which I have experienced in the past at other salons. MAIN REVIEW: I called and asked if they had time to see me before they closed, they did and I got to the shop ~45 minutes till closing. My nail tech was Anne. She seated me and began to work. What I liked about Anne was that she was professional, polite, and gentle. Which was very admirable because my nails were in pretty bad shape from the last salon. What I liked most about the experience was that when she was talking to another employee in a different language she quickly apologized to me. She also made my nails look BOMB! This was NOT a pleasant experience. You walk in and they immediately push you to pick out the Gel Nail color you want... 5 times explaining I DON'T want gel Polish. Over to a chair where the foot basin is covered in plastic (bad waste for the environment) and the water is way too hot My technician spoke almost no english, so it became a futile effort to get what I wanted. The Chinese music was blasting... the worst is when I went to pay and I was charged an extra $10 for her to remove the extra skin on my heel. I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED SUCH A MANIPULATING, SLEEZY, money grubbing nail place before. HORRIBLE GO ANYWHERE ELSE. read more

I like this nail salon! It's clean, doesn't have chemical smells, does a good job and is affordable. If you go first thing when it opens, it's very quiet and relaxing. Parking is free and easy, especially during the day before the neighboring restaurant gets busy for dinner. Jenny gave me my mani-pedi and she was great--efficient and fast.
