Nail Saloon is definitely very clean, professional and upscale. I made an appointment and was seated right at my appointment time. They do offer wine which really helps you relax and enjoy your experience. The nail techs wear scrubs and pull out fresh, sanitized tools for each manicure. I really appreciate this, because sanitation is one of the biggest things I look for in a nail salon. Who wants to get a mani with a side of hepatitis? Not me. They are all natural and don't use any gel or shellac products. I got about 4-5 days out of my manicure, but went back in for a $10 polish change to keep them looking fresh. Though it's a little pricier I really appreciate their commitment to the health of their technicians and clients. read more

Love the non-toxic products. Everyone is friendly and accommodating. After a pedicure, I stood up before checking to make sure the polish had dried, and of course, messed up the polish on two toes. The receptionist grabbed someone, who had not done my pedicure, to quickly fix the polish. She did so happily and was so nice, even though it was my fault. Although the Nailsaloon is amazing: the polish lasts, the manis and pedis are beautifully done, the arm and leg massages are wonderful, great service, I do miss the massage chairs that many other salons have. This place is great IF you get the right technician. My sister and I came here the other day for pedicures and I was surprised at how different ours were to each other even though we were sitting next to each other. Her technician asked her if she wanted a salt or sugar rub. She also asked her if she was OK with using the cheese grater or just wanted the pumice stone. There were a few other things she was asked about as well. My technician did none of that. Just went right in with the cheese grater. Used salt instead of sugar rub. Didn't put any callus removed on my feet. And this wasn't just different between my and my sisters experience. I saw other techs ask their customers what their preferences were. Once I got home later that day, I looked at my feet and it didn't even look like she had tried to address my calluses. She also didn't buff down my nails so they are all bumpy. However, my sisters looks great. So I'm going to chalk it up the nail tech rather than the salon itself because my sister lived the place. read more

This is a (very) delayed review, but I had a good experience and relied on Yelp reviews to find this place, so I thought it would be worth it to throw out my opinion too! Overall, really great experience. I had an appointment for a pedicure only towards the end of the night. Even though I likely had one of the last appointments, I didn't feel rushed at all, which I really appreciated. The pedicure chair set-up was slightly uncomfortable for me (at 5'11 what seating isn't though), but the technician did the best she could to make sure I was as comfortable as possible. The service was great, I was offered a drink and a magazine. I just wanted to take the time to catch up on emails, and my technician was very courteous to let me do just that. The color would have lasted until my entire nail grew out if I let it. I went about a month before finally taking it off. No chipping or other issues. Incredible quality. You absolutely get what you pay for here. The cleanliness, which is the main selling point for me, and overall relaxed yet homey vibe (Joanna Gaines would be proud) is more important to me than a so-so staff and tacky shop offering services at $10-$15 less (if even that). Also, you can put everything on a credit card, including tip, so there isn't any need to stop at an ATM beforehand. Like everyone else has said, there is are no gel polishes to choose from, which isn't my favorite. However, I understand why that is and it's a business decision Nailsaloon has made. Technicians are great, and were nice enough to redo the toenail I managed to smear not once but twice before leaving the chair last time. I was really excited about this place and even more excited to have sparkly glittering toes before surgery. Made sure to wear flip flops out of the saloon, into the DC cold. And then for 6 hours after. Finally thinking I was ready for my closed toe flats, how disappointed was I when I discovered that he polish had NOT dried in 6 hours and the big toes were totally smudged. I called this morning expressing my disappointment. The women offered for me to come back which wasn't an option. When I asked for a refund, she said that she could refund me $15 which is what it would cost for a polish change. So for a $48 pedicure which was screwed up, likely because the polish was not applied properly, these guys are not even professional enough to refund the entire cost. And a huge inconvenience to the client who now has to deal with getting the polish fixed. Really poor customer service and I won't be returning.. read more

I still like this place, but the customer service seems to have gone downhill. After an unfortunate experience at a cheaper nail salon that left me needing antibiotics a few months ago, I almost swore off ever getting pedicures again. Alas, I remembered there is Nailsaloon, which is immaculately clean and very sanitary. I decided to ease my way back into pedicures by coming here. It helped that a glass of sparkling wine was offered and it definitely helped to ease my anxiety. The technician was awesome and did a wonderful job. She has made me trust pedicures again. I got a beautiful Zoya matte blue color that gets me compliments from everyone who sees it. Unfortunately, the ladies at the front desk were not so great. There were two of them. Neither one of them paid me any attention (and I was sitting in the first chair). After my pedicure was done, I was instructed to keep sitting there in the chair to allow my pedicure to dry since the quick dry stuff would mess up the matte color. Fine. During this time, my technician went on to work on someone else. The ladies at the front desk couldn't have been bothered to check on me the whole 30-40 minutes that I sat there. One of them got up and then started getting her nails done and the other was busy texting on her cell phone. They kept getting up and walking right past me, looking at me and then keeping on walking. No asking if I was okay. No asking if I wanted another beverage. Nothing. The one on the cell phone was completely oblivious as I watched her ignore a customer who was waiting to pay, while she kept texting on her phone. It took her a whole 2 minutes to look up and notice the customer. I left here feeling annoyed and not valued as a customer...but at least my toes look good :/ read more

I don't get manicures incredibly often because I tend to be a bit of a mess of a human being. But when I do, I usually feel a little rushed and a little headachey from the fumes. And then I nick my nails 10 minutes later. I first tried Nail Saloon because I heard about their 5-free polishes and ventilation system and I figured it was worth a shot. This place IS on the pricey side, especially if you're used to $10 NYC manicures or $15 DC manicures. But! You're getting more for your money. Or, at least, I feel I got a lot more for my money on my visits. Not having a splitting headache is well worth the extra money. The 5-free polishes last much longer than I expected--more than a week, for my first one. And when I demolished my second one within 10 minutes of leaving the store because, like I said, I am a mess, they offered to fix my damage the next day. The polish is holding strong now. I love that they don't re-use files--you have the option to take yours with you when you leave, and a fresh, new set is opened upon sitting down. There seems to be a lot of attentiveness on being sterile and clean, way past the usual procedures. In general, the Saloon is relaxing from start to finish. They brought me hot tea, had great music playing, make booking and paying incredibly easy. You can add tips onto your charge, so if you forget cash, you don't have to feel guilty and awkwardly run to an ATM and then pop back in flustered. The staff is wonderful. Plus, they have this insanely great mentoring program they're starting. I think it's incredibly important to give back, and I think mentoring over manis is a brilliant way to help others. read more

I thoroughly enjoyed my visit. Very nice, clean and tranquil environment. The staff is super friendly and professional as well as very health and hygiene conscious. I observed the staff cleaning towels and sanitizing equipment when they weren't client facing. I liked that the products were nontoxic and that they strive to be a salon that takes both their clients and employees health in consideration. Only downside is there is no designated parking, so you'd have to park on the street or in the Whole Foods parking lot (go in get something and have them validate it) but I usually use ParkMobile so I was fine. They're a little pricey but considering everything that came with the price including an extremely professional wand clean environment..... well worth it! read more

Bought a Gilt voucher for a mani/pedi, which ended up being the same cost as a mani/pedi at any other typical salon in town. Would I want to pay $80 for a mani/pedi on a regular basis? Not particularly. But I will say that the experience is worth it, perhaps for a special occasion! The place is super cute, very clean, decorated well. All the employees I encountered were friendly and helpful. I regretfully didnt take advantage of the wine/drinks they offer (I didnt want it while getting my mani, and then when i got my pedicure i forgot to ask for a drink/the didnt offer me one). The polish colors are not what im used to (OPI and Essie), because they are all vegan or earth-friendly or something, but they do have a lot of choices. So, this place is very nice, it's fancy non-toxic nail polish (so no gel, shellac, acrylic, etc) so it's only good for a pedicure. That being said, it's a very nice very enjoyable pedicure. It's a great drink, fancy and very, very clean place. I really like going and look forward to pedis here. I would give a 5star, but if you go on a weekend, I've had it where they totally rush you out of your seat and into the entry area for your nails to dry, and they over book so much there aren't enough nail dryers, and there are just too many people. It becomes a huge cluster and it's not relaxing or enjoyable -- they need to not overbook on weekends. For how expensive a plain polish mani or pedi is, they really shouldn't overbook. read more

The Nailsaloon was a little difficult to find. It is on top of a Chipotle, but their sign is only on the outside of the second floor, so unless you are looking up while walking down the street, you might miss it. I walked back and forth on 14th street looking for it until I finally found it. While they are going with a western theme in the name and in their typography when you first walk in, the rest of the saloon is modern theme. They had pretty lights over the nail area and exposed red brick wall behind the pedicure chairs. I recommend making reservations if you know what you want ahead of time, because when I dropped in on a Wednesday morning at around 9:30am, there were only 3 nail techs and 1 pedicure person, and they weren't able to give me a pedicure or manicure because they had people coming in with appointments at 10am. The only thing they could do for me right then and there was a polish change. This was disappointing to me, but understandable because I don't think a lot of people want to fully staff their nail salons so early on weekdays because turnout is probably minimal. What I really love about Nailsaloon is that their nail polish is 5 free. I also love that the place doesn't reek with chemical smells. Also, they have a lot of different drinks to offer you. I asked for a cappuccino and they made me one with their nespresso, and it was lovely! And, they did a really good job with my nails. This place is definitely on the pricier side, a manicure costs $22, and a mani pedi will cost you about $80. read more

Momma needs to keep-up her nail color and, after dishing out the moola for the Saloon Mani & Pedi, I expected that I would have beautiful nails for at least week. Sadly, I had chips on my nails and toenails within less than 24 hours--so disappointing!! Even within less than a week, two of my toenails were completely chipped to the point there was no nailpolish left, which is something I've never experienced at any other salon I've been to in DC. Despite my own experience, my recommendation is to go to nailsoon for a once-in-a-blue-moon pampering sesh with an out-of-town visitor. I called ahead and they were able to accommodate my friend and I for manicures with very little wait time. They serve complimentary drinks while you're having your nails done, and you can get pretty much anything you'd like. They even made a custom cranberry mimosa for us--yum! All of the tech's tools were sanitized thoroughly in plain view, and unlike other salons, the employees speak perfect English, so there's no chance of miscommunication! Plus, you know they aren't talking about you among themselves--a nice relief. They didn't offer gel manis, but the saloon manicure is one of the better ones I've had. Their pedicures are thorough and look great. I also got a brow wax, which was fine by all means. But $20 for a brow wax is kinda steep when my regular person does a much more thorough job for $8. The next morning when I woke up, it looked like I had some sort of reaction to whatever wax was used on my brows. Went to the doctor, who tested my skin and told me it was a bacteria that caused the reaction. Maybe skip the waxing here. :/ [The owner did reach out and offer to refund the brow wax, which I appreciate.] tl;dr -- Chic nail salon with excellent customer service. No toxic environment and products, clean place and tools, nice and kind staff, lovely and relaxing add-ons included such as gentle scrub (made of only pure sugar and massage oil) and massage which leave your skin silky and delicately smelling (even though all the products are definitely unscented, which is good for sensitive skins). You even get complimentary drinks. These are some of the amazing features of an experience at this salon. A little expensive (I paid 80$ for mani+pedi, tip not included) but totally worth the price: the outcome was perfect, both on my hands and feet. I've been going to Nailsaloon for nearly a year now. I was not originally familiar with the concept of "five free" nail polishes but I'm always happy to forego unnecessary chemicals. What's impressive is 1.) The wide variety of colors they have in this "specialty polish" AND 2.) How long the polishes last without all of that extra junk. My girlfriends and I go in for fun pedi art before our SCUBA trips and we are all repeatedly amazed by how well these pedicures hold up to diving, beach time etc. The service at the salon is great. Everyone is super friendly and the cocktails are (of course) a welcomed perk. It does cost a bit more than your basic mani factory shop, but I truly think they're providing a premium service that's worth the premium price. read more

Yes, it's expensive. But I am super into the fact that they don't use things that might give you cancer, because I am 100% sure I don't want cancer. Also, I take medications that make me immunocompromised, so if someone uses dirty nasty shared tools on me, i could get a staph infection more easily than the average person, and lose a limb. No thanks. Their polish colors are gorgeous, the place doesn't smell like chemicals, they have a good selection of trash magazines, their staff are all really friendly, and they'll clean your rings while you're there (very cool). Also you can make appointments online, which I love because I hate speaking to people on the phone. One thing - their polish (or at least one of them) doesn't hold up well to beach trips. It didn't chip, it's sort of faded away. Very strange, but since sadly beach trips aren't often in the cards for me, it only matters once a year at most. read more

BOOKING I made an appointment through their easy online portal and was pleased to find a ton of availability on a Friday evening. I also love that they give you the option of speedy versus regular to choose from. The speedy mani/pedi doesn't include the full blown "spa" treatment but is a great way to save some money. I compromised and decided to do a regular pedicure and a speedy mani. ATMOSPHERE This place feels like an oasis in the middle of the city. The space itself is clean and tranquil and will immediately leave you feeling relaxed. You'll also love that this place doesn't reek of nail polish. Nailsaloon only uses non-toxic polish which is a great bonus, especially for expecting mamas and general holistic health nuts (aka me). VALUE Don't get me wrong, Nailsaloon ain't cheap. For a speedy manicure and regular pedicure I coughed up $70. However, in my opinion it's completely worth it if you're looking to treat yo self. Wow, what a pleasant surprise to check out the Nail Saloon and walk out feeling completely satisfied! I took the day after New Years off to take care of errands and realized by noon that I hadn't had a pedicure since i'd move back stateside this summer. My feet were desperate for some qt, so I did a quick search on yelp for nail salons, and conveniently Nail Saloon is just around the corner AND I could book immediately online. I showed up promptly for my 4pm appointment, checked-in, the nice gal behind the counter took my coat and asked me to pick a nail color from the nice selection of "5 free" polishes, and I was shown to my pedicure seat right afterward. I was offered a wide variety of drink options, and chose the signature drink - the cosmopolishan, which was super yummy. The person that did my nails was really sweet and took great care of making sure my cuticles were well groomed and my calloused feet were properly managed. I didn't get the full experience of high intensity feet and calve massages that I usually get from a smaller asian-owned shop, but it was still good. It was also awesome to have my pedicure done in a very clean and professional environment where the employees aren't yapping loudly the entire time. By the end, I loved the way my feet and toes looked and felt, and I was feeling very relaxed and happy to find this place. Will definitely be back. Hopefully sooner than later. I had another great experience this afternoon: They cleaned my engagement ring on the house and it is spotless. They might do a better job than my jeweler! They offer green tea from Tazo, my favorite. It hit the spot after brunch. My manicurist was so nice, professional, and attentive. She was honest when the color didn't look great and patient when I chose another one. I splurged on the saloon mani and the scrub, lotion, and massage were so worth it. I will be back for this. This salon is out of my way, but it's worth the effort for many reasons. The atmosphere is very pleasant and serene, the layout gives a nice sense of calm and space, and the decor is minimalist and uncluttered. The nail techs are very skilled and thorough, and do a meticulous job with application. I can personally recommend Ana for a flawless mani and pedi. I really liked how instead of chatting with each other, the staff seems to have more of a social vibe with the customers (though no pressure to chat-- it's enjoyable even just being in that environment). So while the work done is very professional, the vibe is very relaxed and casual. Cleanliness, as others have mentioned, is a top priority here, so no need to worry about that. Also, you can take your file and buffer with you after if you like (instead of having them tossed). The complimentary drinks are also a nice touch, especially when you're waiting for your polish to dry. Like others here have said, you can't really find the beloved NYC combo of inexpensive-yet-high quality nail salon services in DC. This place is pricey, but instead of going for cheap and short-lived, I feel it's worth it to pony up for Nail Saloon because they really do offer more than just a great manicure. It's a "total package" place. My only gripe would be that some of the polishes seem to run "soft"- that is, they take much longer to harden than others (though they may be dry to the touch on the surface). This sometimes results in wrinkles, depressions, and smudges. They do have a chip fix policy, but once you've left it's not necessarily convenient to return. Lots of good stuff here. No whirlpool baths to harbor bacteria and fungus, no crappy "massage" chairs, just a big plush arm chair and a regular sink to soak your feet in. The space is beautiful, although the choice of music was bizarre - some kind of club music spotify channel that included lots of bad language. The use of exclusively "five free" polishes and products means there are no strong chemical smells going on. My manicure still looks perfect four days later. I would definitely recommend making an appointment. They actually honor your time (unlike a lot of nail salons) and you might not get served without one. I went at a slow time and made an appointment anyway, but several walk ins came in who couldn't be accommodated because there also weren't that many people working that day. read more

So after coming and seeing how clean it is here I don't think I can go anywhere else. Uka was especially attentive and gentle. For some reason the varnish they use takes longer than usual to dry but other than that I just loved how everything they used was disposable, and that hygienic practices were noticeable. I went in with acrylic nails, not knowing that they typically don't offer removal services. However, upon arrival, they were very accommodating and willing to help a girl out! I went in with a girl friend and we both got the "Speedy Mani" which definitely showed great attention to detail in only 22 minutes as promised on their website! Great for young professionals just looking for a little pick me up. They also offer complimentary beverages (we got white wine and a diet coke) and non-toxic polish. The technicians were also great conversationalists if that's what you're looking for but also will let you just plug in your headphones no problem! I got a pedicure and the young lady barely pushed my cuticles back and was pulling my dead cuticles rather than actually cutting them. It was somewhat painful with all her pulling. The scrub was weak - maybe her arms hurt... Who knows? I would say it was a gentle/lazy pedicure but I can't due to all the cuticle pulling. I was never offered a beverage as the other guests were. I may seem picky but I'm accustomed to a different client experience and my old salon is just too far away. Needless to say my DC pedicure search continues... read more

I don't write reviews often, but when I do... The nailsaloon is one of my favorite places to be in DC. I visit weekly, and there is never a time I am not satisfied with their exceptional service. I have my favorite manicurists, but they are all wonderful. I have to give a special shout out to Justine. She goes ABOVE above and beyond. I don't even have to say anything when I come to the salon. My drink is handed to me prepared as I always like it, and more often than not my color choices are waiting for me too. Justine and the rest of the team are so accommodating to my ever changing schedule and make it possible for me to squeeze in my weekly mani whenever I need one. The nailsaloon is well above a manicure. It is a place to escape, hang out, and get fabulous service from the technicians and managers alike. I look forward to my trip every single week. read more

It also feels really sanitary in that they have their pedicure bowls lined with plastic, instruments sterilized and placed in peel packs, and fresh files/buffers for each customer (which they then give you at the end of your visit). They're also friendly and offer pretty good wine, coffee, etc. They usually do a good job with respect to how the mani/pedi looks. The only thing I would say, is I don't feel like my manicures last more than a few days at most when I go here. I don't know if it's the type of polish they use (it's supposed to be more natural or organic(?)). I still go back because it really is a pleasant experience, but on occasions when I really need my mani to last me through the week, I usually will go elsewhere. read more
