From our very first call, we were extremely impressed with her knowledge and professionalism. She took the time to truly get to know us and understand our homebuying goals. As first-time homebuyers, the process was entirely new and, at times, overwhelming. However, Mina has a calming and reassuring presence that helped alleviate many of our concerns. She was able to help us close on a very tight timeline, which made our offer stand out. She also turned around mortgage scenarios quickly for multiple properties we were interested in, with varying financing options--sometimes even multiple times in a single day. Every time we spoke with her, she was transparent about the process and clearly communicated next steps. Thanks to her diligence, she was able to lock in our rate just before they increased significantly, which we are very grateful for. She was always available when we needed her, and we truly could not have asked for a better lending partner. We look forward to maintaining our relationship in the years ahead as we settle into our new home.

From the very first conversation, it was clear that I was in expert hands. Their response time was nothing short of amazing--no matter the time of day or the complexity of the question, we always received a clear and timely reply. It made a potentially stressful process feel incredibly smooth and manageable. One of the things we appreciated most was how well they educated us throughout the entire process. They took the time to explain every detail in plain language, ensuring we felt informed and empowered to make the right decisions. We never once felt rushed or brushed off--just genuine support and expertise at every step. Their availability was also remarkable. Whether it was after hours or over the weekend, John and/ or Lily consistently went above and beyond to be accessible and responsive. It truly felt like we had dedicated partners who cared about our goals as much as we did. And last but certainly not least--their personalities! Friendly, professional, approachable, and calm under pressure. They brought a personal touch to the experience that made a huge difference. I complained to his boss and that stooge ghosted me after a few weeks. I called again for the third time being extremely frustrated and having sent over all the required documents several times... I finally got a wonderful guy named Trey Alvarez to help me out with my loan. I would hope that he finds another company to work for because he is amazing,he listenes and is with you 100% all the way. It took 4 months for this to get funded. Trey was only with me for a few weeks. However he did his job the way he knew it should be done. So this review is absolutly not for Sovereign lending, it's only for Trey Alvarez. Job well done Kiddo. I would leave 5 stars, but that would make Sovereign look good and They were hard to deal with. SO choose Trey, YOU WILL BE IN GOOD HANDS with him.

I've been getting regular spam emails from them and 3 phone calls just this week with VERY PUSHY people on the phone. They start out asking for me without first introducing who is calling. I ask who is calling and they say Sovereign and that they are calling because I expressed interest in a loan. NO, that was 3 years ago, and your information is very old. But quickly they say there are changes in the market and do I still live at xxxxxxxx. I tell them.... Look, I didn't use you 3 years ago because you were terrible during the initial phase, so I used someone else, so I don't need a loan and there is no possible way you can beat my interest rate since rates are now triple what I have. So leave me alone. They then say, but we like to give you a "free" review. I have to say again, take me off your spam list and stop calling. You are too pushy and rude and not listening to what I am saying, so I will never use you in the future. I hang up. Next day another idiot from their company calls. I have to block their calls. I suggest not using them. This desperation is a big red flag to me. They were terrible 3 years ago and still are today. Also agree with other reviewers that they are clearly very disorganized.

Erik was willing to compete to provide the best rate, terms, and guaranteed on time closing. He provided a quick pre-approval letter that was needed to make a more competitive offer to the house sellers. He was transparent on budget and the money down that would provide the pricing. Following the home inspection and our intent to proceed with staying under contract, he provided the best loan estimate and fixed rate with no points from a pool of five different lenders that were all in competition for my business. Optimum First won out with a loan estimate that the other lenders couldn't beat. Everyone at Optimum First was very responsive, even at odd hours or weekends. We were moving from Virginia to Texas and with Optimum based out of California, the time zone difference played to our favor since we could email and contact them after work on the East coast and they would respond the same day with the three hour time zone difference. Make sure they lend in the state you are considering on buying. They are CA based and cover a lot of states, but I am not sure if they cover all of them. After we committed to using Optimum First as our lender, we generally had no issues with loan processing and providing necessary documentation or follow-up info for underwriting. However, one word of advice is I would recommend as soon as you know you want to stay under contract (likely after your home inspection) and proceed with the house you want to purchase, obtain your final, bound homeowners insurance policy with your preferred provider (not just a quote, the policy) as soon as possible. This will be needed with Optimum First for your clear to close letter and any buyer financing requirements stated in your contract. It will help make sure you close on time to make sure the policy is in place as soon as you can get when you commit to Optimum and go into underwriting.
